Big Mess.......2006-08-24
I have a couple different retractable items for my Media Player, however these headphones do not work the same way. They were horrible. They are not secure feeling in their mechanics, and the wire stripped when I tried to pull them out the 2nd time. Basically they broke immediately. My boyfriend thought I was kidding, but he said he agrees... major design flaws. Most retractable earbuds I find get the same review. If they pull from a wheel in the middle, they are no good. They tangle up when you pull them out, and there is no going back.

These earbuds are listed for 99 cents, which seems like a great deal. But watch out for the shipping charges! The seller, BrilliantStore, inflates the shipping charge on purpose. I ordered 12 of these earbuds to use as stocking stuffers, and the shipping charges on my $12.00 purchase of items that weigh about an ounce or so apiece ended up being over $33.00! The total order was about $45.00, which is obviously significantly more than I planned to spend.
If you order just one pair of earbuds, the shipping charge does not stand out as outrageous. But if you order several of them, the seller refuses to adjust the shipping charge to reflect multiple small, lightweight items in a single box. It should cost about $5-$10 MAX to ship 12 of these earbuds.
I called BrilliantStore to have them adjust the shipping cost, thinking it was an error. They said it was not an error, and that they use the shipping charges to offset their "marketing costs." In other words, it's a bait-and-switch scheme. Their product comes up as the least expensive option among their competitors, but it doesn't really cost any less than the competitors' products do. To compound the issue, if you use One-Click buying at Amazon, you might not even notice the outrageous shipping costs until it's too late.
Since the shipping rates chart for BrilliantStore says it should cost 80 cents per pound to ship, I challenged BrilliantStore on this as well. They explained that these earbuds are listed as weighing THREE POUNDS EACH in their system and at Amazon. That's how they inflate the shipping charge. Clearly the earbuds can weigh no more than an ounce or two apiece. I pushed hard on this point, and the customer service rep had to admit that this is true. She went and checked with her supervisor, who refused to back down on the issue. I cancelled the order, obviously, and will never buy an item from BrilliantStore under any circumstances.
I registered a complaint with Amazon about this seller's unethical practices. BrilliantStore is using Amazon's system to basically defraud Amazon's customers. I hope Amazon bans this seller immediately. If you have had similar issues with BrilliantStore, please register your complaint with Amazon as soon as possible.
Even if BrilliantStore seems to offer the best deal on something, please DO NOT buy from them and reward them for attempting to cheat Amazon customers!

I bought the product a few days ago and it was great. The headphones retract and extract easily. The only problem is that the headphone's quality is a little bit worse then the original. However I would defeinitly reccommend these headphones. Searched through lots of different retractable headphones and chose this one

these are your typical heaphones. they have a decent sound for a relatively cheap price. i'd compare them to your standard iPod or Sony type in terms of sound quality. retractable part is OK, but has a tendency to get stuck if you don't do it slowly (much like window shades)

Great coil, poor bass.......2007-07-26
Out of the many retractable headphones available here I chose these because, being more expensive, I thought they had better speaker elements and thus better bass reproduction.
I was wrong. These headpones sound very tinny, there is almost no bass. Even the earbud headphones that came with my Creative Zen Nano sound better that these (but honestly, to get really good bass, you need to buy earplug phones).
The coil works well, though. I wish I could take it apart and install it to my Zen headphones, but due to the way the latter's cable is built, I doubt I can do it. Plus the coil is permanently glued together.

I listen to books on tape and carry my mp3 player and earbud phones with me in my purse. The wires from the phones always got tangled and eventually destroyed them. Now, with these, I pull the retractable cords out , clip it on my shirt or pants, and listen away, then when I'm done the phones retract into a little package that is tangle-proof and very compact. Listening quality is great.
It would be 5 stars except: sometimes the wires tangle a bit in the retractor, and you have to tug the wires all the way fully extended to rewind them neatly. Also, the ear end and the plug end pull out to the same length. So . . if you clip the miniBuds to your pants pocket, the wire from the ear to the clip is as long as the wire from the clip to the mp3 player in your pocket. It would be nice if each end were individually adjustable. but in the meantime, these are ingenious and I love them.

The first set of earphones I received were 3.5 mm instead of the 2.5 mm I ordered. The customer service was good and shipped the correct earphones to me right away. However, the correct earphones fell apart the first day I had them (the wires came out of the tubing).

The idea for the headphones is a good one, but the mechanism rarley works and the cords are frequently tangled. The sound quality was fairly good at first. One of the ear phones stopped working with in a few months. The porduct was a great disappointment and I would not buy other products from them.

Bad expierence.......2007-02-02
At first I thought the headphones were decent. The price was pretty reasonable and they appeared to be retractable in th epicture but when they came it was a whole different story. In order for them to be able to fit on my phone I had to trim the plastic near the headphone jack. Even though the headphones retracted it was not the way that I had invisioned.....It took me more time to retract than it took for me to just wind them up. If the headphones were like 2 to 5 dollars I would not have minded the fact that they stopped working over the times span of a month. I literly only used my headphones for a week when I recieved them then after I lost my treo so I did not use them for a month. When I bought a new treo I plugged in my headphones and they did not work (either there was no sound comming out of the earbuds or only one earbud pumped out sound).....I'm hoping that mabye I just recieved a defective model of the headphone.

These are decent earphones in a convenient package at a decent price. They are a very good value for entry headphones. Definitely worth the price I paid at Amazon.

- Inexpensive but decent sound quality.
- Decent support - Had a problem with one of the two pairs purchased. Support was responsive in getting a replacement.
Cons
- It would be nice if it came with foam covers
- Had to trim a bit of the plastic around the plug because the headphones wouldn't stay seated properly on my treo650.
- One pair suddenly retracted while using them. It will no longer stay retracted. They are being replaced by the mfg.

The sound quality is horrendous, with the inability to correctly split up the different sound channels.
Don't buy this.
It's a generally miserable product.
For example, I used the headphones once, then stashed them away.
After looking for a piece of string for a few minutes, I realized I could use these cords as string to hang something up. I cut the headphone cord to use as string.
That's how bad they are.
So, basically, if you want expensive, cheap string, you probably should go with these. Otherwise, steer clear.

I purchased this product simply looking for a set of headphones that would work with my BlackBerry Pearl and were not an asymetrical head set. Right out of the packaging the retractable feature did not work properly. Once I plugged them up to do a test of the headphones in action, I was dissappointed to hear the music coming from the Blackberry's speaker. So they do not even work. Maybe because it was a BlackBerry, maybe not. Bottom line, even if problem is incommpatibility issues with the phone, having actually examined the product in hand, I still would not buy it. The materials feel cheap, and the cord is only 41 inches. which may be fine for people of average height, but at 6'2'' I found the length to be inadequate.

These earbuds are great for the retractibility feature. It works quite well. But that's IT! They have probably the worst sound I've ever heard from any earbud style headphones, and I've tried quite a few.
