Microsoft Optical Desktop Elite for Bluetooth - Keyboard and Mouse -
Customer Reviews:
If you are a Gamer, look elsewhere.......2007-12-31
I enjoy gaming. I have my computer hooked up to my 62" TV. I bought this combo so I could game in comfort. I am located about 5 feet from the BT receiver. The keyboard loses connection about every 3rd time and takes at least 3 seconds sometimes more to come out of sleep mode (which it goes into very quickly). You'd think with such a fast sleep mode setting it wouldn't suck batteries so bad. I have to replace the batteries every 3-4 days in both the keyboard and mouse. The mouse lags which makes it about impossible to play anything timed or MMO style. It works moderately well for just everyday stuff like checking email and surfing the web (if you can get past the poor battery life and disconnects). Hopefully someday a company will step up and make a combo that really works.
Works Very Well.......2007-11-28
Excellent product. Great battery life. Excellent range. Set up under Microsoft Vista was a breeze.
Tip #1: Discard the enclosed CDs and download the latest versions of IntelliType and IntelliPoint from Microsoft.
Tip #2: Rechargeable batteries work best in medium to high drain constant use items (they lose their charge over time even when not used). This is a low drain periodic use item, so you're better off with regular batteries.
Most comfortable keyboard.......2007-09-22
I bought this keyboard and mouse 2 years ago. It was love at first sight. The most comfortable keyboard I have ever worked on.

Go with a wireless Keyboard and Mouse from Logitech Instead.......2007-09-07
I have a fetish for Wireless Keyboards and Mice. I buy a new one every 3-4 months as new versions are released in the hopes of finding a better solution. I have never found the perfect combination.
Before purchasing this setup, I was using a Microsoft Keyboard with a Logitech MX1000 laser mouse. I loved the combo but the mouse stopped functioning.
I purchased this setup about 2 months ago. This is the second time I have owned the Microsoft Bluetooth setup. The first one was about 2 years ago and was the standard unit. Decided to go with the elite in the hope that the flaws in the original were resolved. I am sad to say they are not.
Let's start with the good.
1. The unit has great range for short term use. I can use it 10-12 feet away from the desk.
2. Nice large keyboard. The keyboard is definitely the positive with this kit. Great tactile feel to the keys.
Now to the bad.
1. Even though you can take the unit a long way from the receiver, it seems to mysteriously lose contact with the computer on a random basis. The problem has lessened by moving the receiver to the USB ports on my monitor but it still happens on occassion. 90% of the time, it is the keyboard but it can happen with the mouse too. Major pain.
2. Terrible delay on the keyboard when it has gone into standby...it can take 2 seconds for the keyboard to wake up. Annoying and no other keyboard I have used does this...including Microsoft's own non-bluetooth variety.
3. The mouse wheel stops functioning for no reason. Removing the mouse and reconnecting it or rebooting the machine fixes it.
4. If you need to remove and reconnect the mouse for the above reason, you must attach a mouse because the bluetooth discovery utility will not let you use the Tab key to select the mouse in the list of discovered devices. Simply bad UI.
The technology used in this package is just out of date. Microsoft needs to update it. The Logitech setups run rings around this as far as features go. They also have more reliable connectivity, less lag and a better price.
If you must have Bluetooth (not sure why you do), this is your best option. Otherwise, pick one of any of the competing Logitech devices and you will be happier.
Keyboard eats batteries.......2007-09-06
I put lithium batteries in both the mouse and keyboard when I got them back in March 2007. I have replaced the keyboard batteries 3 times, and 0 times for the mouse!!!
Keyboard also loses connection sometimes when I'm using it. I would expect this to be a bit more consistent. My wireless keyboard from Kensington for my other PC has none of these issues.

Great Little Mouse.......2007-12-04
I've been using this item for about 6 months and I think it is great. I'm only on my third set of batteries. Admittedly I don't use it all day long everyday, but I get enough usage that I can't complain about the battery life. A HINT: When you are done using it, unplug the receiver and store it in the bottom of the mouse. That automatically disconnects the batteries and prolongs their life.
I've used it on two desk tops and a lap top with no problems.
I'm very satisfied with the size, feel, button & scroll wheel operation, cursor response, and price. The only time it locked up was when a set of batteries was almost dead. I plan to buy a couple more for gifts.
SAVE YOUR MONEY.......2007-01-27
I WISH I WOULD HAVE READ THE EARLIER REVIEWS ON THIS MOUSE. HAD I DONE SO, I WOULDN'T HAVE PURCHASED THIS ONE. NO SENCE IN KICKING A DEAD HORSE BUT I CONCUR WITH ANY AND ALL OF THE PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS. FRUSTRATION IS THE WORD
Don't buy this! .......2007-01-26
This mouse works fine on my laptop...however, it goes through a pack of batteries within weeks. I hate it. If I still had the packaging for this mouse, I would have returned it. No wonder it is so cheap.
HORRIBLE. Period........2007-01-25
I haven't even been using it for a week before it went bad. It is freezing on me right now as I type this review. It just doesn't work anymore- it wasn't turning off at all when I would store it- nor will it turn on when I want it to. You would think the maker of SwissArmy would do a little better than this. Mine is going in the trash! Save yourself $25.
I LIKE.......2007-01-04
This mouse was my first wireless of my own, but I have used others and this one is the best so far.

When it decided to work..........2007-08-05
Dying batteries made the mouse work poorly, which is expected. However, fresh new batteries made it act the same way. I had to use the mouse for about an hour after every battery change before it would stop spazzing out.
I agree with the previous poster who stated that the device ran through batteries too quickly.
To add to the two previous posters: when *my* USB adapter fell apart, I used a Dora the Explorer band-aid to hold it together again. Worked peachy.
Premier Notebook Wireless Mouse.......2006-08-17
A great product, with comparable features found only in the desktop wireless mice. I had this mouse in use for a week and can say now with certain authority that it's a solid product. The USB adapter works just great. It's a mini USB adapter, hence needs a little TLC. I have faced none of the problems, the other nay Sayers are talking about. All five buttons on the mouse work perfectly, as they are intended to be. It needs a little getting used to, like any other newer product. At the price being offered, it's a bargain. I plan to buy two more for my kids, before they jack up the prices at the Best Buy.
Thank you "The DIABLO", you are the man of the moment. You have no match in the entire industry. A Super product, backed by excellent quality and craftsmanship. Thank you WENGER. Continue your good work.
Poor Design.......2006-08-15
Nothing But Trouble
Yes the USB adapter fell apart on me too. Just a little Elmer's super glue, and I was back in action. This however is not the major problem with this device.
The low battery indicator is set to such a high threshold, that it starts flashing within a few days of installing new batteries. This of course drains the batteries completely. So expect to replace them (2 AAAs) about once a week. Compare this to some other products which carry on for 3 months.
So now we have Wenger down for no QC and no product testing. Anyone else want to add something?
Junk, plain and simple.........2006-08-03
I recently picked up a laptop again and wandered off to find a mouse for it. I happened upon the Diablo hanging on the rack and thought to myself, "Wow, my Winger laptop case is pretty nice - I bet this would be too!!" I liked how the mouse felt, with a similar shape to my desktop mouse, a Microsoft Intellipoint, and figured they might just be rebranded mice of similar quality. WRONG. The Diablo's USB adapter felt flimsey even in the plastic, and upon inserting it into the USB port on my laptop it came apart into pieces. I wouldn't leave a bad review like this if I hadn't been in line with two other people to return the same mouse for the same thing.. Hey, Wenger, "Where's the QC??"
