Keyboard is barely acceptable, the mouse is horrible........2007-10-16
I actually got this product because I was attempting to use up some store credit at Best Buy and thought that a wireless keyboard and mouse would be nice to have. Unfortunately, I couldn't have been more wrong.
The keyboard is acceptable for day navigating your machine and surfing the web, but the rate of dropped key-presses makes it unusable for writing out anything lengthy, and coding becomes an impossibility.
To give this a little perspective, when using a wired keyboard to code I have about one mistake every 30 lines, with this wireless keyboard I had a mistake or two on each line.
The mouse is even worse, it eats through batteries like there's no tomorrow, doesn't have more than 3 feet of range, and doesn't track properly on most surfaces.
I would stay away from this product at all costs, even though it has come down in price by almost $40 it is not worth it.

I bought this keyboard after killing my Apple Keyboard by spilling coffee in it. I needed a keyboard desperately and pulled into a CompUSA going out of business. The keyboard appealed to me with the wireless capability and the Mac compatible design. I'm experiencing batteries that die quickly, a hub that doesn't light up to indicate low battery warning, missed keystrokes, keystroke lag, keys that are starting to fade after only 2 months, an eject key that opens and closes the CD carriage simultaneously, no support response from Kensington after two emails, and compared to Apple's designs--a rather gaudy design when you really look at it. It looks more like a white Windows XP design by it's standards (very subjective comment there). I don't use the mouse as I already have a Logitec MX Laser. I should have given it a 1 star rating but I am still using it until I buy a new Apple keyboard, and it is functional. Avoid this keyboard!

The wireless range is quite poor. Range is improved somewhat by 'pointing' the dome of the receiver right at the mouse, e.g. velcroed to the bottom of your display. The keyboard and/or mouse just flake out after a few months.
We haven't had trouble with the driver in Panther and Tiger, the volume and itunes controls work fine, when the stuff works at all.
The one saving grace is Kensington's excellent warranty service. The system has a five year warranty. The 800 number gets you to a human pretty quickly. Tell them your troubles, your serial #, your address, guess at the purchase date, and a week later a whole new kit arrives. The new ones work fairly well for a few months, then start dropping key and mouse strokes. I do wish they would actually take the dead ones back for postmortems, maybe they'd learn to make reliable gear.

Doesn't work right... It takes forever to get it to connect to the receiver, then when it finally connects, half the keys don't work. I'm not talking about the extra function keys, half the alphabetical keys don't work. S, B, T most of them don't work. Waste of money.

I bought this to use as a secondary keyboard and mouse at home to use with my MacBook Pro. I have the Apple Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard at work, they are fantastic!!!
For starters I had lots fo trouble getting the software to work, maybe it was an Intel issues but for what ever reason it took a while and several tries at downloading from the Kensington web site to get it to work. Then after a few days the Mouse stopped working. So I started bringing home my Apple Bluetooth mouse, not a big deal it's small enough to bring home everyday, but it is a pain. Now today only about three weeks after I bought it the keyboard stopped working, I changed the batteries but still nothing, restarted, still nothing.
It's not worth the money you save, go with the Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse from Apple, they are well worth it!!! I may try the Logitech Keyboard and Mouse set but it's till RF not Bluetooth, I don't know why manufacturers are not making more Bluetooth sets rather than RF.

Wish I would have gone to Kensington.......2007-06-24
I got this wireless keyboard for a Gateway laptop through Gateway while tyring to problem-solve a compatibility issue. The first one was defective so I exchanged it for another - and that one was defective, too! Both times it was the mouse. I tried to get Gateway to take it back and refund my money because it turned out not to help the compatibility issue and they refused. The keyboard, even though it worked, could not keep up to my typing, forcing me to slow down, go back, start over. Frustrating all around.
Please, if you're stuck with this unit, try what someone further down suggested, go right to Kensington. This is NOT a good product, but if you save your receipt, the box guarantees it for five years. I lost that option by thinking only Gateway could refund my money.
Mouse died an early death.......2007-01-11
My keyboard and mouse are right at 1 month old, and the mouse already died. So far the keyboard is doing fine with no problems, but the mouse is totally useless. I also really did miss my extra buttons on the mouse. Left and right click just aren't enough!

this wireless keyboard does not stay connected to the RF transmitter; it loses its connection after a couple of minutes - be it at 2 feet or 2 inches distance. there is no discernable pattern, yet the problem is consistent enough to render the keyboard entirely useless.
on the positive side, kensington support was very helpful and replaced the keyboard with the 2.4GHz, flawlessly operating pilotboard 64390. don't buy this one, get the 64390 instead.
Great Mouse, Poor Keyboard.......2006-12-12
Note that I have used this on my Mac.
I don't use the keyboard anymore because the keys require too much pressure (or as one reviewer noted, it skips letters). It is incredibly frustrating to look at your work and see a dozen places where Word is telling me I have typos.
When I first got this, I exchanged it for a new one because I thought the keyboard was defective. Not so. The keyboard requires the finesse of a gorilla.
I really like the layout of the keyboard and the hot keys across the top. I especially like the keys for changing font between bold, italic, etc.
One note: the volume control knob changes the system volume, not the volume of iTunes alone. I'd prefer that the knob change only the volume of iTunes and not everything else.
The mouse is wonderful. I use it with my left hand and it is very comfortable. I was using it on my bare desk but I purchased a $3 laser mouse pad and it really improved the tracking.
Installation and set up were a breeze.

BIG WASTE OF MONEY.......2007-12-20
I Love the Kensington trackball, so I thought I'd try their wireless mouse/keyboard. The keyboard is useless, you have to hit the keys so hard you end up making a lot of keying errors. Not only that, if you key for a long time, it actually gets tiring! The mouse works ok, except every now and then the cursor changes to this wierd shape; eventually it goes away so its not that annoying, except when you combine it with the poor performance of the keyboard, it makes this purchase a total waste of $60.

I can only repeat what many have already said. The tactile feedback is lousy, which means you never know what is input and what is not. In addition, the keys are sticky, which means sometimes you have to punch them down to get them to input and, once you've done that, you get a whole row of the letter or symbol you've typed in because the key is stuck in the "down" position. I spent $140 on two of these keyboards, and this weekend I ditched them in favor of two $20 Microsoft Digital Media Pro keyboards. I hate going with the evil empire, but I could not be happier to be rid of the crummy Kensingtons.
POOR KEY TOUCH AND BAD LAYOUT. .......2007-09-23
I owned this keyboard only for 2 days. Since new model has different key layout (short left shift key), it was difficult to capitalize. The other critical part was very poor touch of Enter keys; I needed to stroke just in the middle of keys. This was exchanged to Logitech Wave which has very good layout and touch. And I have owned my fair share trying to find the "perfect" feel.
Don't get me wrong -- this keyboard is very nice looking. But after getting it home and working, i'm ready to throw it against the wall.
So many dropped signals have me constantly going back and retyping. Sometimes i find myself pounding a key trying to get it to read. The feel is like lifting weights with your fingers. Just typing this review makes my hands hurt.
Skip this things and get something better -- then tell me what it is cuz i haven't found it.

Since I installed the software for the mouse and keyboard, my computer won't shutdown properly. It won't let me uninstall and the media buttons don't work at all. The mouse is very ergonomically comfortable, but the pointer skips around. This kensington pilotboard sucks. I will never buy kensington again.

Although the keyboard is user friendly I constantly lose connectivity from both the keyboard and the mouse causing nothing but frustration!!! The box says up to 30 feet however the keyboard and mouse are only about 2 feet from the USB connection.

Like everyone else that's reviewed this product on this page, having the same issues. The mouse and keyboard connectivity is terrible. I'm a graphic artist, plugged it in last nite tried to do some work and i almost threw it out the window.

Great design, love the slim keyboard and mouse feels great. I planned to use this as my media center setup because of the 30 ft range, but let me tell you 3 inches is not enough to ensure a stable link and reliable performance. After failing to perform on my laptop 6 ft away with direct LOS, I moved to a PC instead with the sensor 2 feet away, and had exact same issues. These include the mouse that simply refuses most of the time to double click, or single click, or move smoothly. I'm a PC tech, so all standard troubleshooting was done. Deal breaker, it is going back to the store. Pitty, because I REALLY like the keyboard and mouse design... but come on, if it is going to be wireless please make it work as such.

Everything started fine; the keyboard has a luxurious feel and plenty of extra programmable buttons and the set-up was stunningly simple, really plug and play into a PC which had no wired keyboard attached when I did the set up... I just plugged in the USB device, booted up the computer and everything was well...or so I thought:
I actually purchased 2 of these for 2 separate PCs and had exactly the same issues on both; the first is that the transmitter has to be very close to the mouse/keyboard to operate at all. I had planned to plug it into a USB on the back of my computer which sits under my desk, in the end I had to get a USB extension cable and run it up next to my monitor some10 inches from the mouse with no obstructions. Then everything works fine except the left mouse button which, as another reviewer reports) you have to click multiple times to get any response and double-clicking becomes a lost art, in desperation I end up right clicking and selecting the file open option.
Tech support was totally useless and kept telling me to change the batteries (now why didn't I think of that....oh wait, I did...and I kept telling them that I did).
It's a pity because I like the unit otherwise, but I am going to have to buy another as it is just too frustrating to use.

I've tried multiple sets of brand new batteries, repositioning the PC in relation to the keyboard and mouse, moving the USB transmitter - all to no avail.
No matter what I've tried productivity is seriously affected by slow or no response from the mouse. I bought this to replace a wireless set I had that plugged into the mouse and keyword ports. It worked great until I just wore it out.
I wanted the padded keyboard and like the shape of this mouse. If only I could get it to work accurately and consistently.
