Great Value and Sound.......2007-12-27
this card is a lot better then i expected. i suppose if you're an audiophile, hardcore gamer, or professional of some sort who works with audio, this isn't the card for you. but for the rest of us with modest speaker set ups who also want some quality, this is a fantastic buy. i bought this for music, as i'm an avid listener and use my computer as a jukebox, basically. this card has not disappointed. its pretty darn good with all kinds of music. i thought i was going to want a 5.1 system to go with this, but after hearing what it has done for my years old Altec Lansing 2.1's, i'm in no hurry to change. the difference from onboard audio is loud and clear.
if you buy it for games and movies it does a good job there, too. your speakers will have a lot to do with it, but this card does its job well, delivering the sound where its supposed to go and at the level you want. i downloaded the drivers straight from the Creative website. no bloatware included, just the driver and Creative Audio Console, which features the most basic and essential controls. its all the casual home user really needs. if you want or need more, use the disc. i opted not to, and i'm glad.
if you play games you should know EAX and 3D Surround, etc...will not work with most if not all games with Vista. MS removed a feature from Vista which enabled this, so you will need a program called ALchemy to do it. strangely, its not a free program, as Creative is selling it at $10 a pop. i guess if you have Vista sound for games isn't part of the deal. but even still, the card is well worth it. and if you need those effects for games thats worth it, too. also, a program called "Open AL" is available for free that will allow EAX to work in games as it does on your computer, although not adjustable in game.
install was easy, pretty much plug and play. besides replacing RAM, easiest thing i ever changed out in my computer. just powered back up, clicked cancel when the Windows "New Hardware Found" box came up, and opened the folder with the previously downloaded driver package from Creative. Vista did the rest, no issues whatsoever. very easy, very nice.
Kind of a Gamble.......2007-12-26
Glad to see that some people had good luck with this card, but it was a nightmare for me. Spent 5 hours this morning trying to get this thing to work. Tried different drivers, settings, pci slots, searched all over the web for solutions to my problem, and no luck.
Sound comes out horrible, and playing music causes my comp to reboot. No error message, just reboots.
So it may or may not work, and your probably better off buying a different card. Also no hardware acceleration.
depends on what you use this card for........2007-12-12
If you are just using this for music. I highly recommend this. There is no need to pitch in another 70$ for a Xi-Fi. 50$ of that money went into buying the name of the Xifi. It actually the psychology of marketing. They jack up the price of new products because they know customers are going to spend mucho money to get the latest gizmo.
My brother have the Xifi Gamer card. Don't get me wrong, the crytalizer is good, but only works well with bad compressed mp3 and only for a certain type of songs. If you are listening from lossless audio files or even 320kbps, there is absolutely no help at all. Let you the truth there is there is not much difference between the two card, at least i cant hear any of them and i save 70$.
Worked Great on my XP Pro system.......2007-12-12
Easy installation no problems. I had to do a lot of clicking around before I got it set up in the correct mode for my speakers (stereo mode to feed PC speakers and AV system simultaneously, rather than multi-channel). But after the initial setup it has been working great.
Does the job.......2007-11-24
The sound card that came with my computer (now two years old) had developed a popping/crackling sound. I bought the Soundblaster Audigy SE from Amazon. It arrived within a week. Now, I'm not very experienced with computer hardware--I'd rather it left me alone, and I'd do the same, but this was very easy--just popped the side panel off the computer case--didn't even have to disconnect all the other wires from the case--just the speaker wire that came from the sound card--unscrewed the one screw holding the old sound card in place, and pulled it straight out. The new sound card went in the same way, then plugged the speaker wire back in (green to green), replaced the screw and the side panel of the computer case, plugged the power cord back in, and booted the computer up. Inserted the CD that came with the sound card--it installed the driver (along with some other sound software)--took about 20 minutes total. No more Snap/Crackle/Pop!

Works Great.......2007-12-03
Fast shipping. Product works great for Windows XP. Automatically got the drivers for the product, and is working fine. Great for the price.
Good product ... buy one somewhere else........2007-10-16
My first review was deleted ... probably because I told the truth. This is a great sound card and I'm glad I purchased it. However, "Varpak" is apparently Amazon's way of saying, "we will ship this product to you in a plastic bag."
That's right, I received my sound card (delicate electronics that could easily be broken) in a plastic shipping bag with no box or other protective material. The CD-ROM with drivers that came with the sound card was cracked during shipping but it was easy to download drivers from the web. I really recommend this sound card but I don't recommend purchasing it from this website.
This is great product. Buy one ... but buy somewhere else.
Awesome card for the price..........2007-01-22
For those not willing to settle for low quality, this card is among the many to choose from. I use it for recording and it works great. Works great in all situations, games, movies, music, etc.
good for the price.......2007-01-06
The card it's just good for the price really doesn't make a very very big difference with my old sound blaster 5.1, but it's cheap and works well
Ouch.......2006-11-01
For the price you can do a lot worse than a Audigy SE. It does support EAX, kind of and it sounds a notch or two better than your typical onboard audio. However, it has a lot of issues as well. First off, it disables the treble/bass option under the tone control in the control panel. This causes a muffled sound since treble controls the clarity to some degree. The card does come with its own software but the software is merely to beef up the bass, no treble options whatsoever.
Even games suffer greatly because of the fact that the treble can't be adjusted. I really don't know what creative was thinking by creating a card that dismisses this option. Maybe they assumed most speakers have a treble adjustment, don't know. Either way, this card is going back and its being replaced with the audigy 4 SE, which better re-enable the treble option.
In short, like it says on the box, this is a great upgrade from onboard sound. But that isn't saying much. Did I mention even games sound muffled on this thing? I played a few games and the gun shot effect on all of them sounded like the guns had silencers. This is a result of to much bass and not enough treble but that can't be adjusted thanks to the fact that that option isn't enabled on this piss poor card. The soundblaster live was actually a better card, it had those options enabled. This card is actually worse than a card from 6 years ago which is kind of pathetic.

Inexpensive Upgrade For Excellent Audio.......2006-11-10
This soundcard offers an excellent upgrade to any user who wants a newer soundcard without breaking the budget. It's an easy install; I had it installed and running in under 20 minutes. I've had no conflicts with this card and it provides an awesome set of features. Also, this is an OEM card. Simply stated: it doesn't have a box wrapped around it so that saves the buyer some cash.
Great Audio/Sound Card for bucks! .......2006-09-05
Sound Blaster (SB) Audigy 4 SE is one of the great sound cards I've ever had. If you want to learn MIDI and Audio-mixing with sequencing programs (e.g., Cubase, Sonar, Acid Pro, and/or Reason), this card is a GREAT start - "ASIO2" support. You don't need to buy expensive audio cards.
Latency is very important factor for these sequencing programs (to run VSTs). I found that the SB Audigy 4 card offers under 3 ms (milli seconds) latency for both input and output, which is a great qualification for sound mixing. I can't believe I achieve this level with only $40 sound/audio card. YEAH!
Downside of the card...hmm..hardly any.. but the PCI board is a bit wider than normal sizes. So, if you are using a narrow PC case, it won't fit to yours. Hope this review can help your music life! ENJOY!
Excellent Value.......2006-08-05
When I got a new computer I figured that the onboard 8 channel sound chip would be good enough. I thought wrong. I am not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination, but I noticed right away that the integrated sound on my Asus A8N32-SLI board was lacking in the upper frequency range. DVD audio playback was also problematic. With the volume turned up a lot of electrical noise (hissing and what not) could be heard during quiet parts. I should point out that I am using Logitch Z-5300 speakers. These may not the best speakers around, but they are still very good.
I bought this card before C. Barnhurst's helpful review was posted. My research indicated that this card was basically identical to the regular Audigy 2 / 4 line except that it lacked a 1394 port and did not feature gold speaker connectors. My assessment was correct. The most important thing to note is that this card features the same DSP processor and has the same DirectSound and EAX hardware acceleration capabilities as the more expensive cards in the Audigy 2 /4 line.
I am very happy with this card. Games sound a lot better and the improvement while watching DVDs is remarkable. Everything sounds crisp and fresh without any of the electrical noise I was plagued with before. For $ 50.00 this card is the best value around.
OEM.......2006-07-26
"SE" ??
"Varpak" ??
If you're checking out this product you're probably thinking to yourself. WTF is the difference between this and an Audigy4 Pro or a regular Audigy4.
Well the difference between this and the A4 Pro is the same as the difference between the non pro A4 and the pro.
Yep this is exactly the same card as an Audigy4 Non-Pro except it doesnt come with packaging, instructions or a remote control.
So what do you get? A soundcard.. one that works good I might add. Oh and a cool sticker to stick on your computer case.
Good product, I wish theyd just say Audigy4 OEM isntead of this SE Varpak BS. Audigy4 SEs dont even exist. It was just a made up name.
As far as performance this card is a revamped Audigy2 with some DSP changes or some junk like that.
All I know is that it works, and it sounds good. And the drivers that came with it actually worked with the card (which is a first for me as far as Creative products go)
4/5 stars for slightly misleading advertising.
Hope this helps
