Microsoft Zune 30GB.......2008-01-01
I just got a brand new Microsoft Zune for Christmas. Only got to use it about 3 times before it stopped working. My wife also bought me all kinds of accessories to go with it. So, we have a lot of money invested in it. Apparently, there is a flaw in how the carrying case is made, and it makes it seem like you need to insert the power adapter into to port upside down. The port is not made in a shape that rejects the incorrect plug in, so the result is bent prongs on the port. Microsoft will not replace. I am out about $300.

Bought to replace a stolen ipod. If you're more familar with microsoft, you'll like this unit more than apple/ipods. (Plus it's several dollars cheaper)
Works well, better than a Video Ipod.......2007-12-31
I already have a 30GB apple Ipod when I received this as a gift and I am pleasently surprised at how well it works. The only advantage which the Ipod has is that it is physically smaller (although not lighter), but the user interface of the zune is significantly better with the large font much easier to read. The use of the more normal (i.e. not clickwheel) controls giving better control than the Ipod. I say this after having use an Ipod for almost four years and the zune for about 4 days. I was surprised that microsoft paid as much attention as it did when you switch between different menus. The transitions are done well, and the structure is intuitive. I had no problems in loading up the zune software with vista home premium and found it to be just as useable and easy to use as itunes with an ipod (which I run on a seperate mac.) I am not sure what the problems other people have seen as none existed when I ran and synched my zune for the first time. I am now quite happy to give my old Ipod to my wife and use a better product.
Vista users beware! Software update does NOT work well.......2007-12-31
Without typing up a long statement, I bought it for a christmas present this year. I was going to pre-load it with media, but I was never allowed to. Why? First, the sync cable refused to operate properly. A call to Zune's customer support line "fixed" this. They were more than willing to send out a new sync cable...which after 12 business days, still has not arrived.
So I run out and find an original zune sync cable in a store. Zune would pick up a charge, but still wouldn't sync up. So, I call customer support back and basically get the troubleshooting steps in the box.
I go to their support page, scour the message boards for solutions (seemed as if every 3rd post was a problem like mine). Nothing works. Now, luckily, I am very familiar with computers, so going into the device manager isn't nothing new. But, it had me thinking...what about a dad who just knows how to turn on and off a computer? Why is this process difficult for someone like him?
Long story short, there is a vista conflict that makes it so zunes would not properly sync up. It maybe has been fixed since my purchase of a few weeks ago, but I wouldn't assume the best.
Worst customer service experience though. I would have rated this one star, but I do like the design. Haha.
Don't Buy.......2007-12-31
It has not worked properly from day 1. It is now taking over a month to get repaired. Buy any other MP3 player, or IPOD. Zune seems not to have it together

This is awesome as long as you make sure it's compatible with your player! It is compatible with the Archos Generation 4 players, but the remote that comes with this does not work on the Gen 4 players.
Good, but could be better.......2007-12-24
I think this is a good by for anyone who owns an Archos. Some of the features you get from it you should be able to get without it. For instance, you shouldn't have to buy a peripheral like this in order to charge the main device from the wall (without one of the peripherals charging is only possible by usb). Also, I am not quite sure why they even allow you to output video with a component cable if there is no option to switch between 480i and 480p on the device. And there is no component input. Overall it is good, but some of the features seem forced, like you have to buy it in order to get stuff that should come standard and some features don't seem implemented well.
No built in tuner should be a deal breaker.......2007-12-07
No built in tuner means that when you want to record a show, the cable box will be turned to the recording channel. So if someone is watching tv when a scheduled recording is beginning, the channel will be changed and they will have to watch the show that is being recorded to the Archos. Unless of course you rent a separate cable box just for the Archos to use. Instead, Archos should have charged $10 more and put a built in tuner in the device. Instead, buy a usb or pci capture card, download free pvr software and have your PC or Mac do the recording and transfer the video to your Archos like you will with most of your video or music.
Any device like this or the low end sling boxes that don't have the traditional coaxial cable hookups (usually is a single cable that screws in - traditional cable company wiring) means the device will not have a built in tuner.

This thing is awesome. Allows you to record tv. it comes with a remote also which is cool when you have it outputing to a tv or monitor that is larger... you can surf the web or just control the whole device with the remote.

With full Internet access, the player's Opera browser plug-in offers Adobe Flash support, which lets you access and enjoy YouTube and other Web video sites on your Archos device. By using the player, you can view and post YouTube videos wherever you are with an active wireless connection. In addition to downloading media straight from the Archos content portal, you can stream and watch videos from your home PC or laptop. For added video playback versatility, the player is compatible with MPEG4, AVI, and WMV video files. The player features robust music playback features, too. On-board music file playback capabilities support MP3, CBR, VBR, WMA, protected WMA, and WAV files.
To help round out the player's multimedia superiority, the Archos even comes with photo viewing capabilities. JPEG, BMP, and PNG files are 100 percent compatible with the player, and the player can pull up PDFs for portable review -- an ideal means to take bigger documents or e-books in PDF format on the road with you. needs more refining,I had 2 of them had the same problem,when you record vidio on them voice does not match the picture.I returned them thanks to amazon customer service understanding.
Beats an iPod Touch...Great Travel Buddy.......2007-12-28
Although all the attachements and accessories available for this 605 might amount to more than what you expect or want to pay for a PMP, this unit is great. It might be a bit bulkly in comparison to the iPod Touch, but with 160Gbs and all the media formats it can handle flawlessly, it's certainly worth the weight. For the most part, no need to convert your videos/music. Screen is gorgeous. Doubles as a portable storage device..something the iPod Touch doesn't do. A couple of minor complaints...the PDF viewer is slow to render pages. Perhaps a future firmware update might fix this. Also, viewing a few websites I've experienced crashes on the unit...where you'll have to hold down the ON button to restart the unit. All in all, well worth the money.
Archos 605 - Great product.......2007-12-28
This product is great but if you intend on charging it via USB you better get ready to spend at least two days to fully charge. Other than that it's great, I'm able to watch videos, listen to music, etc., too bad you have to pay for the plug-ins to watch anything, and to be able to go online. Wish that was incorporated into the package.

Great product for sound and video quality. Using MS Media Player as the sync platform is a mistake though unless that's your normal platform. Doesn't support Real or Rhapsody.

The digital photo frame is a great item and a good gift. The transition speed is a little slow and it does not play mp3's while reviewing pictures. Overall satisfied, but a little disappointed
Misleading and Hard to Use.......2007-12-20
Misleading: This product WILL NOT play mp3 files while it displays pictures! Coby tech support says they have only four models that actually can do that. If you want something that plays mp3 files OR displays photos, this is the one for you.
Hard to Use: The remote control has very tiny buttons that only seem to work about half the time. Even using the buttons on the back of the unit does not guarantee that a command will go through on the first button push. Also, there are buttons that are only located on the remote, so DO NOT lose your remote. Hardware issues aside, the software is not user friendly at all, and the users guide is vague at best.
Overall: A very disappointing buy.

This is realy meant to be a multimedia speaker set for your pc but we are using it with our stereo system & DVD, etc. These speakers have fantastic surround sound quality beyond my expectation. When watching a dvd, you get the movie theatre sound effect & can hear all the little details! I highly recommend this product. I only wished it was equipped with a remote control for volume control.
BTW I originally saw these speakers at an Apple store for $170 but here at Amazon I was able to save $50 after paying for s+h.
