Fantastic kid's alternative to an iPod!.......2008-01-01
I bought the 512MB Sansa Shaker in pink for my 6-year-old daughter. She has long coveted her teenaged sister's $300 iPod, but there was no way I was getting her one. I chose this because of several features:
*Size makes it easier to keep track of
*Two headphone jacks for sharing with her brother in generous moments
*Single AAA battery provides power
*Pink color would be a big hit
*The seperate speaker lets her listen without headphones
*Easy copy and paste when adding music (no complicated iTunes to use)
*No digital readout to deal with (child doesn't have to be able to read)
She's had it for a week, and I think it's become grafted to her body! To her, it's just as good as her sister's. It came with 5 children's songs included, so it was ready to use right out of the box until we could add more music for her. It also includes one AAA battery, a set of earbuds, and a 512MB card. To add music, just load the music onto your computer, then drag or copy and paste onto the card, and you're set.
The battery says it will provide 8 hours of music. In practical use, she got about two days out of it, and that was heavy use. Walmart sells these in a 4-pack for 99 cents.
The earbuds were a bit hard for sich a little girl to manage, but my mom gave her a set of earbud-looking things attached by a piece that goes over her head (it's a fold-up set), and these have worked perfectly for her.
The speaker doesn't have a loud capability, so I don't have to wake up to music blasting throughout the house. Not bad sound at all for such a little unit, though you won't be DJing a party with it. She's perfectly happy with it.
The 512MB will hold hundreds of songs; more than any kid that age could ever need. If for whatever reason you decide your child needs more space, just pay $20 for a 1G card later on.
The size is a bit smaller than I had expected. It appears to be the size of a pop can, but I'd liken it more to the size of a salt shaker. Just the right size to grip in a child's hand, but big enough to find in a messy house. The flat iPods can become lost under as little as a sheet of paper.
It comes with a D-clamp to attach to a lanyard, but does not include the lanyard itself. The stores were closed on Christmas Day, so I just made one from an old shoestring.
Bottom line: It comes with everything you will need to run it right out of the box, including pre-loaded music, and it has been a fantastic hit with my 6-year-old. The battery life is satisfactory (keep more handy). I love this so much that I'll be buying the blue one in November when my son turns six!
ok.......2007-12-31
can only get it to download mp3 even though it says you can download wavs so my daughter only has 4 songs on it so thats disappointing other than that its ok

GREAT PRODUCT FOR YOUNGER KIDS. VERY EASY TO USE AND PROGRAM WITH MUSIC.
MY SON AND NEPHEW BOTH LOVE THEM.
Just a little bit of a pain.......2007-12-31
Make sure you know how to change your computer media player to the correct format because mp3 format is the only format this player accepts!! I had to go to the Sansa website to read troubleshooting problems and replies to figure it out. Other than the pain of having to do that it is a neat little first player for kids. Next one will have a screen.

The Platinum GameCube Controller delivers clasic GameCube design and better control of the action, for all your favorite GameCube games!
Customer Reviews:
Gamecube Controller.......2007-12-31
Works great so far. It keeps both of my kids happy since they can now play games together. The true test will be over time, however. We got two of these when we first got our gamecube, a few years ago. One still works but the other stopped working after about 6 months. I figured I'd give it one more try.
happy with purchase.......2007-12-31
We needed to get a new controller to replace an off-brand one that was not working reliably. We had two that worked well, that were made by Nintendo, and one that was made by another brand. Great purchase. For us it has been worth it to pay for the name brand, as it's more reliable, even if it does cost a little extra. Looks sleek. Works really well. Color never seems to matter to us in how it works, but the brand name does seem to make a difference.
game cube controller.......2007-12-31
a good solid piece of hardware. seems to work well and fits the hands good.
Bad Shipping but pretty good controller.......2007-12-27
This controller works very well, but I ordered it about 2 to 3 weeks before Christmas, and I didn't recieve it until today.
Perfect for Wii.......2007-12-24
I bought this for my Nintendo Wii...I didn't want to spend a lot as I'm not sure how many Gamecube games I intended to invest in, but I'm pleased with the product based on the use I'll get out of it. It works great with Nintendo Wii.

Great toy for girls.......2007-12-27
My 7 1/2 year old played this at a friends house and fell in love with it. We bought it for her for Christmas and she loves it. Our daughter is really shy and I thought this would be great for her to learn about life choices and how to communicate better. I also see it as a reading tool. She has to read and learn to navigate her way around. Great toy!
Crummy video, vapid content, no educational value.......2007-12-12
My daughter (age 8 1/2) has been begging for this for months, based on the constant barrage of advertising on children's TV. I quickly checked the reviews here and saw that it was highly rated and inexpensive, so I bought it for her. I am stunned and appalled at how awful it is. It's similar to any one of the online sites such as Be-bratz, WebKinz, and Club Penguin, in that you create a character, move through various rooms and areas, do tasks and chores, earn money, and spend it on stuff. The video quality is awful compared to any of those sites, the music is tedious. The graphics are simple and ugly. Worst of all are the blatant stereotypes in the content - you can be "athletic" "funny" or "brainy," you can say dialog like "I think I just failed my math test" and you can have boring conversations with your friends like "I like your necklace, did you make it?" The main purpose is to get money and buy stuff. I wish I could throw it out the window.
I will add that my kaughter is delighted with it, so far, after one session.
hmmmmmm.......2007-12-11
this game is fun in the first place but then as u keep playing it gets boring cuz u alway get to do the same stuff and dont get to expirence something new. u cant actually go swimming, play tennis and go ice skating(i was disappointed) u can just sign up for them
Awesome!.......2007-12-02
I love Dream Life! It is very realistic. You can shop 'till you drop, go to the hair salon, go to your friend's house, school, dances and parties, and much much more! You earn money to buy things by signing up for jobs and doing chores. If you get good grades, your parents will let you get a TV, phone, or computer. I recommend buying this toy to anyone who wants to have fun!
Also, I just want to say that if you are on a Made in China boycott (like I am) that this toy is made in China.
So, buy this toy and have a LOT of fun!
totally fun!.......2007-08-19
I have Dreamlife and it ROCKS!!! You can go to school, the mall, salon, rec center, your BFF's home, and your home. Each game is 90 days, but school days are only like 3 min.and weekends are like up to 5 min depending how long you do stuff.Another thumbs-down is that parties and dances are stupid.I mean all you can do is talk, talk,TALK!!And when you get a computer all you can do is study and IM a friend.but other than that it's SOOOOO much fun! So don't just sit there!BUY IT!!!!

Nice idea.......2007-11-09
My 3 year old got this with her first leappad and adores Dora, so it was an immediate hit. She listens, repeats and plays quietly for ages.
Well worth a buy for any Dora fan.
Perfect for preschooler.......2007-03-24
My 4 year old loves Dora. She sees other kids playing video games but we don't want her to get into that kind of habit. When I need to get things done around the house, that's when I let her play with it. She loves singing and dancing to the song and has fun playing the games. Since she is learning how to read now, this toy reinforces her word recognition skill.
Great For Dora Lovers .......2007-03-16
My daughter can't get enough of Dora and plays with the leap pad all the time. She's two years old and its really teaching her a lot of things. I recommend this to any parent that wants their child to educate themselves and have fun all at the same time.
Great book.......2007-02-21
This was our first Leap Pad book and our daughter loves it! She plays with this for up to an hour and she's not even 2 yet. The games are educational yet fun! I wish more of the Leap Pad books were this great. Stay away from the Princess Counting Tales.
Dora LeapPad software.......2007-01-10
My grandson has really enjoyed this software. It is very helpful in his learning process. He recognizes the characters and that is fun for him as well.

Kid likes it and that's a good thing!.......2007-12-18
10 year old Kid uses the Franklin Talking Dictionary all the time. Got him more interested in spelling correctly. The fact that it talks back is more stimulating to him. It's easy to use; didn't have to show him how to use it. I recommend this dictionary to any parent looking to entice their child to spell correctly.
good product for the money.......2007-12-14
My elementary school daughter has a learning disability in reading and this helps her check spelling and definitions of words. I recommend this product. It's appropriate for school and home use. It works with her own earphones if she needs to use the audio function in a public place.
Pretty good overall.......2007-12-03
I bought this for my son who has mild dyslexia and has difficulty with many words. He has been allowed to use it in class in hopes his work will be easier to read!! Well, his class mates seem to really like it and some play the games on it. Most of them are asking him to borrow it to avoid having to walk over and get a dictionary! He is in fifth grade and it is working well for him right now, especially since his spelling is poor enough that he at times needs to use the speaking function to differentiate words. I do see that it will need to be replaced by an adult version in a few years. I looked up a word from one of my books and it was not in it's database. And sometimes, with his poor spelling, the phonics is stumped and can't decipher the word correctly. But overall it is holding up well, has a nice cover that has not yet broken, the speak function is helpful and the games are a hit. He says it has "tons" of words so it doesn't seem to be too young for his grade level. I would buy this product again I just wish I would have gotten it for him a year or 2 ago to get full use out of it.
Great fun learning tool.......2007-11-22
This is a mom's dream come true. I no longer have to fight with my son over doing vocabulary lessons because this little machine makes it fun for him. Because he's learning cursive writing, we're also tackling two lessons at once. I love it, and so does he!
great learning tool for young ones.......2007-10-29
It is an awesome way to introduce young minds to the world of expanding their vocabulary. Although the vocabulary can be expanded on this product to make it even better, it is still very well designed keeping young children in mind.

Hooray - I don't have to hear Hannah Montana anymore.......2007-12-21
We bought this for my daughter's 6th birthday because she has been begging for an iPod. it is very durable, and easy for her to use. She can use the software to download songs from her CDs. We bought another one for her 4 year old sister for Christmas.
Great for Kids, a Bit Stressful for Adults, Wish it was Waterproof... .......2007-12-20
I bought this product with my mom for her preschool class of about 15 3 and 4 year olds. I visit frequently so I saw this product in action. They loved it. It was easy to operate and they loved the idea. I taped myself reading most the books on my digital recorder- a much cheaper way- and transfered it to cd then to this(I had to do this 5 times). I made a couple different CD's for different times of year. They listen to it while reading their books. I am the techie in the family so im incharge of filling it with stories and songs- and it is a pain! BUt I think it's worth it- other kid freindly players only play a few select songs and they cost much more. Also, I can hook it up to my old ipod speakers through the headphone jack and make it go much louder. I just wish it was water proof- One kid was running with it and acedently dropped it into a bucket filled with water. The FP3 player was saved but it would have prevented an evening of worring...
:)
Not Impressed with software.......2007-12-19
My kids received this item as a gift for their birthday. They loved the preloaded songs and stories so I thought I would download so more songs off the Fisher Price website and install the software. Unfortunately, this was not an easy task. I ended up spending 3 hours on the phone with customer service and not getting any answers. Customer service ended up sending me another FP3 player that had the same problems as the first one.
Pros:
Durable
Fun
Educational
Cons:
Software would not recognize FP3 player (saying device not connected)
Software kept giving me the error message (G:/access denied)
Software would not recognize internet connection but I could use the internet just fine.
A month later, I finally figured it all out and got the software to work after reinstalling the software numerous times, etc. I found out that the administrator name on your computer has to be EXACTLY the same as the user name you put in when you install the software. Find out what your administrator name is in XP by clicking on start>control panel>user accounts. This is one reason the software would not work.
The second is that when you plug in the device, your computer will pop up the device with several FP3 icons, playlist icon, and readme file. If you delete all the FP3 icons located in the popup, the device will run fine. Who would have thought of this, but it works! Customer service was very nice but did not offer much for solutions.
Overall the kids love the player but Fisher Price needs to work out the bugs in the software, with headphones not being durable, and FP3 format. They could also improve the troubleshooting section in their website. My Ipod isn't even this difficult!
I like it... can overcome the 2 problems I encountered.......2007-11-05
I like this product for my 4 year old, 3 year old nephew and will even give one to my 2 1/2 year old at Christmas. Although it is annoying that you can ONLY download purchased songs and stories from the Fischer Price site and from your own CD collection, I found a way around that. I purchase songs they like and burn them to a CD. Then I go from there. The sound is not too loud, probably a safety thing, which makes it difficult to hear on an airplane. I found that when we used different store-bought headphones my son could hear much better and was very happy. I was able to delete all the "baby songs" that are on there, and he gets very excited every time I add a new song that he likes.
perfect gift for a kid! .......2007-10-17
I bought this for my 4 turning 5 year old cousin. it holds a lot more songs than I had anticipated and also holds books. I love the fact that you can buy a sim card to expand the memory too! It comes with the headphones, necklace and usb cord. It's also nice that there are accessories for this product. Very cool!

The Zune's navigation is simple and intuitive with a scroll wheel and basic buttons, and the big, bright screen makes it easy to browse music and show off your favorite pictures and videos. This attractive, smart device stores up to 7,500 songs, 25,000 pictures, or 100 hours of video. Get creative. Make playlists on the go and watch slide shows while you're listening. And if you're watching video on the Zune, you'll be pleased with the landscape mode that allows you to get the most out of the vivid display.
Zune-to-Zune Sharing
Don't forget the primary principle of the Zune: sharing. With this device in hand you're holding an opportunity to share music and photos wirelessly from one Zune to another. Send your favorite tracks or images to your friends, or just about anyone with a Zune that's within your reach.
Whether you're walking down the street, in a room with a bunch of friends, at a concert, at the airport, or on the bus, you can whip out your Zune and see all the other Zune devices that surround you. In the blink of an eye you're connected to your best friend and you can send over your band's newest song. Another friend might get the hilarious podcast your little brother made at school, plus that hot new song you just downloaded from the Zune Marketplace. And, of course, there's all the good stuff that your friends want to send back your way. The connections are made and the Zune community grows.
Best of all, the song you sent (or received) isn't a short 30-second preview--it's the whole song. Your friend can sample the song up to three times in three days, flag it on their device and then buy it from the Zune Marketplace. You can send pictures, too. If you loved the photo of your dog at the park and you just have to share it with your buddies, shoot it off to whoever is around. And any pictures that are sent or received can be kept and viewed indefinitely.
Sometimes you don't want to be noticed, and the Zune allows you to fly under the radar. All you need to do is turn the wireless function off, or adjust the privacy settings to control whether people can see you are online. And if you want to keep your Zune private while studying in the library or reading the newspaper on the bus, you can also block Zune devices in wireless range from sending you a song.
Zune Marketplace
Zune makes it easy to find music you love--whether it's songs in your existing library or new music from the Zune Marketplace. You can easily import your existing music, pictures, and videos in many popular formats from your PC and browse millions of songs at the Zune Marketplace where you can purchase individual tracks or buy a Zune Pass subscription to download as many songs as you want for a flat fee. Plus, you can apply Microsoft Points towards the purchase of music so you can buy online without a credit card for added security. At the Zune Marketplace you can read over 100,000 artist biographies and features from leading magazines including XLR8R, NME, and FADED, and you'll have easy access to Billboard Charts, including Billboard 200, Hot 100 Songs, and more. You'll even be able to browse what people in the Zune community are listening to by checking out the Zune Charts.
Pre-Loaded Content
Zune is a vehicle to explore new sounds and share entertainment experiences. With that in mind, the Zune comes pre-loaded with a variety of songs and videos from hot, new artists, as well as some fun films and images. With something for everyone, the pre-loaded Zune content may help you discover your new favorite band, but at the very least you'll have some entertainment at your fingertips so you can start connecting and sharing. Zune pre-loaded content includes loads of audio tracks, music videos, and film shorts, plus 12 classic rock posters from "Art of Modern Rock: The Poster Explosion."
