Love/Hate Relationship.......2007-12-28
I've had this mouse since Razer Copperhead came out and at first was thrilled at how beautiful it is. This impression faded as problems with it's drivers began, and it's beauty not worth headaches it created. For me ergonomics were functional being as I have a small hand, but it has a low profile which is fine if you don't mind controlling movement with first and second fingers primarily. It's an extremely light mouse without the 'optional' weights, so this is easy to do. Side buttons are only useful for Internet surfing, hard to use for gaming, and those on the right side impossible to locate or click without effort.
Cannot emphasize enough how eye candy the LED lighting is, but back to focusing on those horrific software issues. Firmware is deadly on this mouse. If they install badly, you no longer will have a Copperhead as it will die. Beyond that, you must install firmware through driver software which can be tricky if that software is acting up in the slightest - which it is known to do. If you decide to risk taking that leap (will most likely do so alone as Razer support is all but non existent or useless), you must evoke this process through driver software while unplugging the mouse while holding down a button on the bottom of the mouse without accidentally letting go (hard to tell if you have), then plug the mouse back in to the USB port. Don't know about you, but depending on location of your port, this can be difficult, and all you get are two hands to work with unless good with your feet. In my case this port is under my keyboard which I had to prop up, then do a balancing act while holding that button and plugging the mouse in! No firmware installation should require doing acrobatics far as I'm concerned.
What killed my mouse finally? Firmware which claimed to install perfectly, but in fact fried it. Why should I install firmware? Because it had suddenly and mysteriously vanished after re-seating memory modules on my computer. Why should this have made firmware vanish? Your guess is as good as mine! Razer isn't talking, and if they did would claim you did something wrong to cause this... but I can attest it isn't the customer's fault, it's their equipment and related bad software.
If you have money to burn and don't mind taking a chance, then this is the mouse for you, but if you are a person who has better things to do than constantly fuss with equipment and simply would like it to work as advertised, maybe you'd best keep shopping. Logitec has done a good job on their G5 recently, added buttons, and I don't hear anyone complaining about these problems with them. If these two companies put their heads together, Razer on design and 'cool factor', Logitec programmers on software, combined they could make the world's greatest gaming mouse. Unfortunately this isn't the case and what you get is a dilemma. Buy the eye candy and struggle, or one that works and only wish it looked better. For me it's been a love/hate relationship and I only wish someone had warned me in advance.
Having said this... their Diamondback sure looks great! Hahaha Heaven help me... ;^D
$90 Wasted on both Mouse and Deluxe Mouse Pad.......2007-12-12
I was so excited when the mouse arrived in the mail. The packaging looks great and it was very easy to install.
The problem is if I move the mouse at a very slow speed, the mouse doesnt move because it's too slow for the sensor to know the mouse is moving. It's very annoying when you need to move at a slow and careful speed and it's not moving. I've tried putting the mouse on different material thinking maybe the Razer Mouse pad was the problem but the same thing happens.
This mouse would be great if you're always moving the mouse fast but if need careful precision speed, it's very annoying. My plan is to ebay the mouse and try another one.
The 4 buttons to the sides are a little stiff but since i dont use them that often, it doesnt bother me. The front 2 buttons are about right in stiffness but I wish it was slightly more soft on the clicking.
Very accurate.......2007-11-25
I have not really used the mouse much for gaming yet but just browsing the internet or working with files it is much more accurate than my old optical mouse.
The options you can set with the driver install allows you to tailor all motions to your preference. Want to move your cursor from one side of the screen to the other with just a flick of your wrist? The plethora of options are fantastic. Fine tune double clicking, x-y sensitivity, windows pointer speed, acceleration, and scroll speed.
Two buttons on each side of the mouse for a total of seven. I believe they are also able to be set to macro keys but I have not yet done that.
It took me a couple of weeks of nightly use to get used to the new sensitivity but it's like an extension of my hand now. Great buy.
Great mouse, flawed design.......2007-11-24
As soon as I opened it and saw how the lighted rubber part was not proportional with the top and bottom of the mouse, I knew I was going to have to return it since I place my thumb higher than most. I had to place my thumb on the said rubber and it was uncomfortable. The two side buttons on the left(left-click) are also out of place and rather hard to press. It doesn't seem to bother many other gamers, since they probably place their thumb on the lower buttons, though. Rest assured though, this mouse will help a great deal with aiming and such since the laser is absolutely superior to many others out there.
Incredible mouse!.......2007-09-24
I've had this mouse for a while and it's perfect! My two favorite things about it are: 1. How sensitive it is. I move the mouse half an inch and its all the way across the screen. But it's not that it's like, super fast, and you cant control it, I can move it halfway across the screen without even thinking, and it will be right on what i was aiming for. The bad part of this is when i go on my friends computers, and i have to drag their mouse across the pad twice to move it across the screen(but thats their fault, not the copperhead's)! 2.I play World of warcraft, and you can auto run by pressing the / key next to Num Lock, that way you dont have to hold w, up arrow key, or hold both mouse buttons. However, the / isnt exactly in a convient place, so i diddnt use it very often. But, with the copperhead, i press the left side closer to me button, and i will auto run! i diddnt even program it to do that or whatever, i accidently pressed it while i was playing. oh, and more on point number 1, just so you get an idea of how sensitive it is, i just turned it upsidedown, and moved my thumb across the sensor(the width of my thumb, not the length)just once, and the mouse went across the screen. And im only 12 years old, so the with of my thumb isnt exactly that big.
