I was very surprised at how strong the beam was initially. Problem was that the unit is very cheaply made and the contact point with the button became loose by the 2nd hour of operation. This resulted in an inconsistent beam that worked only part of the time.

I just received my item and after testing it out, the beam is barely visible in daylight. Night time it may go its "600 feet" distance, but the beam is VERY small, and VERY weak. I tried it with some brand new batteries and same effect. it only operates at 5mw of power

After countless purchases of crappy laser pointers that eat the batteries (yes those small possibly swallowable batteries)I finally found one that has yet to dissappoint me. Sure red is a cool color and all and those laser pointers may have been cheaper on cost, they cannot measure up to this MiracleBeam Green Laser pointer. I've abused the heck out of this thing and the batteries have held up (This puppy takes AAA batteries by the way) So lets review
1 - Much powerful laser beam (which puts the red to shame)You can aim this thing up at night and see it's path on most occassions
2 - It takes AAA batteries not those easily lost watch batteries
3 - A green laser so people won't think "OMG a red laser duck!"
My cat and my guinea pig get a kick out of it (I'm sure dogs would too)Sure it may seem pricey but its worth it. I now wonder what other colors for laser pointers are out there.

I read the description given and found it a little misleading. I am impressed with the brightness of the dot and the beam at night. You will be happy if you need a good pointer or a cat/dog toy, it works well during the dawn and dusk time frames or indoors. But do not expect it to perform well in bright daylight.
Good Product at Reasonable Price.......2007-12-19
Bought this product & a competing product from Radio Shack. The latter one was "on sale" for "only" $49.99, but since I used a $10 off coupon, it was "only" $39.99 + tax. I found this product slightly brighter and with a broader beam than the Radio Shack one. Both were similar size and weight and will adequately meet our needs for use with presentations that have rear view projectors (which don't work well with red laser pointers). This product is black as pictured & the Radio Shack one is partly silver & partly black.
We purchased several for gifts and are now planning to purchase more as we know many folks who do presentations regularly.
Don't have any information on how well this product will hold up over time, as we just got it yesterday, but it looks just as sturdy as the red laser pointer we got as a promotional gift from a pharmaceutical company (similar weight and appearance as well). We believe this product is a good value for the price.

This is a good pointer and a fair value. The quality of light (brightness and sharpness) is OK and the physical quality of the pointer is OK. The light quality is brighter than those of my red pointers it is not as good as indicated in the product description. The pointer is heavy and larger than I expected (the person holding the pointer has larger than average hands). I don't have a good feeling for the quality of the pointer since the on/off switch does not feel sturdy. Generally the product is not as good as indicated by the product description.

This pointer looks like it reaches the stars in a dark sky. It's a bit harder to see in light polluted skies. For 20 bucks it's an excellent value. I would have given it five stars if shipping wasn't calculated based on 4 lbs. The actual weight is less than 1 lb.

Very Fine Laser.......2007-04-25
I bought a 5mw laser to use for telescope sight alignment. The beam was barely visible in the sky under good seeing conditions. The beam from this 20mw laser is MUCH brighter than the 5mw laser. I am pretty pleased with the product. It throws up a bright beam that dosen't appear infinite, but it does travel far enough to quickly align the scope to objects in the sky. The laser litmus test for me is, can I see a visible beam while pointing directly at a full moon. This laser does that.
Good quality batteries are a must. The best battery solution I could find for this device is AAA 1.5 volt lithium batteries. They provide lots of power quickly, and have a low self discharge rate. They're expensive, but for sparing, short duration uses like mine, they seem appropriate. Lithium batteries loose power in cool temps, but snap back readiely after a short warming period.

It's a nice laser but I don't think it's a true 20mw laser, you can just see the beam in a very dark room but there has to be dust particles in the air to really see it good. I gave it a 4 out of 5 because some times the laser dim's so you have to turn it off and on a couple times before it starts to go full power again.

Supposed to be a powerful laser, with more power than other traditional green lasers, but I have tried it and it is soooo weak compared to my other 5mW green laser. Bad product, stay away....

No, it's not red - it's green Okay, just about everyone has a red laser pointer. Heck, we even sell a fine one here at ThinkGeek. But, we're pretty sure you want to be a superior geek - and doing it with a green laser is the way to go. This pointer is significantly brighter (about 50 times) than a red laser pointer and because of its unusual color it is much more noticeable. I mean come on, a 532 nm green laser wavelength is obviously superior to a laughable 650 nm red laser wavelength. And unlike a red laser, the green beam itself can be seen in mid-air in dark conditions, not just the laser beam dot. This allows the green laser pointer to be used for pointing to star constellations (skypointing) and also just generally look cool as hell. The green laser beam dot can be seen at much greater distances than with a red laser pointer. Since green direct injection laser diodes aren't readily available, this pointer is based on the use of Diode Pumped Solid State Frequency Doubled (DPSSFD) laser technology. I gave one to my son who is a math teacher and he hasn't put it down since Christmas. The green laser is visible when pointed at something half a mile away and it's cool to see the beam all the way if there's anything in the air for the light to bounce off.

I purchased one of these just shy of three years ago (Feb 2003). I have taken very good care of it (it stays in a pocket in my briefcase when not in use) and used it several times a week while I teach. Over time, the silver finish wore off around the "on" button (apparently from perspiration from my hand), exposing the copper underneath. Last week, the button froze in the "on" position, so it is now effectively useless. The laser diode still works, however.
Also, the company offers "Geek Points" for future purchases that are supposed to be good for 36 months. I checked the site earlier this week and, while it's now only been 35 months, the ones I earned from this purchase are no longer on record.

I have purchased 3 of these laser pointers, the first 2 where ok, but the third one even though it was supposed to be stronger than the other 2 came with a defect and is far less powerful, the dot allso has a halo around it where i think the power is going, i dont know why these is but was a little dissapointed with these third laser.

This is a great laser pointer and the brighter wavelength of the green laser makes a huge difference. But to see the beam (not just the dot at the end of the beam) you need some sort of particles in the air for the light to bounce off of. Using the laser pointer with a little dust or mist in the air will make the beam clearly stand out. And if you are wondering, no matter how bright your laser is, without particles in the air you wont see the beam. At concerts where they use the big argon lasers, they always have fog machines near them to give give the laser something to bounce its light off of.

sweet!! Worth the price. It took a while to come because the mail lost it but it is realy good service. All you have to do is contact the seller and problem solved. The laser itself is a realy nice product. you can see the whole beam in darkness. If you are looking for a product you can trust get this one. The batteries arnt the average batteries but you can still find them at local stores like Giant Eagle,Radio Shack, Walmart, Target, Kmart, walgreens but not at all places. The batteries last longer than you would think.That is if you use alkaline(i recomend you to use alkaline).
I got two green lasers and the other green laser pointers button broke. With this laser i never had problems with. In conclusion this is the one to buy.

I got this laser! When I opened the box, I was amazed at the quality, it's a very sturdy looking piece. It's dense and just feels powerful. The beam is especially amazing at night. You can see it bouncing off clouds! I'm very happy with this purchase. I think if you treat this laser well it will last a long time. Great buy! One of my best in a long time.

This Laser is REALLY heavy when you hold it , didn't expect that.I Just Open the box, Place the wierd shape/look battry which i don't usauly see, start pointing ,looks great and much brigher than the red lasers , but after 1 min. the dot begun to fade slowly . i think you can't use it for a long time , the beam is 100% invicble in the daylight.

This is an awesome laser. It's not the skinny type that you see spreading around the internet. It feels like a chunk of lead! You can definitely see the beam at night-it's like a thick, glistening spiderweb and you can see it real easy. The dot is bright as hell, and kinda hurts your eyes to look at it. So if you're thinking of using it for pointing at a whiteboard or projector screen, you might want the people attending the meeting to sign a liability waiver or something like that. The beam looks really bright but it can't burn anything. If ya wanna pop balloons or burn plastic with a laser look for 80 milliwatts and up.

I got this for the fun of it, just as a cool toy. It has been great for that (my cats now turn their noses at boring red lasers) as well as more practical uses. I have used it during discussions of how to make changes to my house with my father, who is a builder. It is plenty bright enough to be visible even in daylight. The range also is significant on it, as it will (at night) illuminate a spot 500 - 1000 feet away with ease. I haven't tried it in a location where I can attempt further, but suspect it would do very well.
One word of caution, not to pleasant if you hit the eyes with it. It is specified to be safe, but all the same, be careful...

My sisters and I bought this for our mother, who has always been a
stargazer. We tried it out in Los Angeles where, admittedly, there are few stars to see.
However, the Sky Scout did identify everything at which
we pointed. I think we could have spent hours looking up and learning about
the various stars and planets. The night sky tour is especially cool.

I purchased this laser thinking that it was going to be a Leadlight GLP-105 model, but infact it was really a GLP-110 model. The laser DOES work and it is definitely worth the price, but if you're looking for the 105 model then I suggest you look elsewhere where the sellers really know what they're selling.

This green laser pointer is great for presentations. It is very bright and the color attracts everyone's attention. It works well and seems well built. It is heavier than most pointers which, I think, makes it easier to hold steady. The pocket clip is a bit tight so I bent it to be looser. My greatest concern is getting this thing back. Everyone wants to use it so it gets passed from person to person and I have to chase it down at the end of a meeting.

The first laser pointer I received worked for approx. 1/2 a second before dimming down to a green dot only visible in complete darkness. Returned it and received a new one quickly and it worked fine, and was very cool. Worked as advertised, including a visible beam at night. It was used for approx. 15 minutes total over 3 days always being extremely careful with it. No shaking, dropping, nothing. I took it out of it's case yesterday and nothing. For no apparent reason it just stopped working.

I like the design of this laser pointer, however it is a disappointment. The laser fades in and out in intensity. Sometimes it doesn't come on when the button is pressed. Other times it does. I tried new batteries as well, but no luck. Pass.

Originally got this to entertain my cat when my red laser died. It is almost too bright for this, but I found another use. It is great for pointing at stars in the sky as the green beam is visible.
