bad product.......2007-06-17
I bought one of these to listen to the baseball games while at work. It quit working after about 2 weeks. Not good quality!
Nice Little Radio.......2007-05-27
Excellent sound and quality. Ear plugs leave a lot to be desired. Personally, I use behind the head ear phones which works for me.
I walk daily and listen to talk radio mostly with some music at time.
Reception is excellent for local stations; station over 20 mile range comes in weak.
Great Little Radio!.......2007-04-10
Nicely packaged radio for the price. It's easy to use - I like the digital tuning/memory control layout and the analog volume control. Surprising AM sensitivity - the FM band is not as sensitive but is adequate. The frequency scan function will skip weaker stations so if your favorite station's frequency you can tune to it and set to memory. The earphone performance is poor - replace them for improved sound quality.
I've used it for approximately 15 hours so far with the original set of batteries - am totally satisfied with this purchase. It's a great little radio!
Great radio at bargain price.......2006-09-08
This is a small compact digital radio that is easy to use. I have purchased several of these from the local Walgreens as I lose them or simply break them. The one problem as mentioned in other reviews is the tendency for the radio to go on or off when put into a bag. I really dont understand why they dont fix this. You will probably want a higher quality earphone also but the enclosed phones are ok. For the price and ease of use you cant beat this.
rp1667 fails twice.......2006-06-02
I bought two. One failsed after 4 weeks and the second after 10 weeks.
Amazon.com Product Description
Sony's AM/FM stereo headphone radio is designed for active use. Made of high-impact plastic, it uses rubber gaskets, bushings, and water-resistant seals to keep water, moisture, and dirt out. The AM/FM stereo radio has digital synthesized tuning for drift-free reception. An auto volume limiter works to minimize distortion, while large drivers enhance sound delivery.
A dual headband provides a secure fit and adjusts on either side. The flexible FM antenna includes a light reflector for added safety. Its built-in clock also has a battery life indicator. The SRF-HM55 can run on two AA-size batteries (not included) for up to 33 hours. Sony offers a one-year warranty on parts and 90 days on labor.
Customer Reviews:
I loved this product & came here to buy a new one!.......2006-09-14
Mine lasted for over 7 years and served me well for 100s of runs and dozens of baseball games. Eventually the headband cracked and the batteries didn't stay tight enough to conduct electricity, but it served me well.
What's the next best product of this type available today?
Piece of junk; Sony's quality is fading quickly!!.......2004-04-15
This radio, at first sign, is great. But, live with it for a while and you will change your attitude quickly.
First of all, the plastic that contacts your ears is hard and funky, which is painful after 10 minutes or so. Second, the battery life is HORRIBLE!! I get 1 3-hour baseball game's worth at best. I get a message in the display stating that the battery life is gone, then I can remove and replace the batteries and get more life. Good or bad? This sucks, because the excessive handling and ineffective display are a joke!!
I own many other Sony products and I feel that they are living off of their past branding successes. It is apparent to me that they are no longer "top of the line" and are cutting too many corners on the quality. Color me gone!!
A big disappointment.......2002-02-26
The part of the headphones that touch your ears is made of HARD PLASTIC. No cushioning at all, and sadistically uncomfortable. They also make a constant clicking sound when you walk or job. It's a shame, because otherwise this is a good product with a very good radio tuner.
Great product........2002-01-21
great sound quality and reception, double headbands may not secure enough for jogging but are great otherwise, station presets and clock are great features.
Good Sound, Bad Stability.......2001-08-16
Ask yourself why you want this radio? If it is just to listen to radio at the desk or while watching a ball game then it is great, 5 stars. Great FM capture, solid sound. 2AA, versus AAA, gives superior power. BUT, if you are a runner, like myself, then look elsewhere. It just dosen't have the stability to hold up to jogging. First the adjustable headband dosen't lock in position enough to hold it on your head. Second the AA bateries that improve the sound, over the non-sport Sony Headphone, weighs down that side and causes the unit to fall from the head. Finally, the speaker pads click constantly while you run and after a mile it gets really annoying. I really wanted this one to work. I prefer headphone radios over armband for running and this would be my 4th unit. Sweat and salt rust out the speakers over time and I hoped that this model would prevent that. Unfortunately, it just dosen't hold up to jogging like other headphones. I really don't think they tested this thing on runners.

OUCH-KABOOBLE! (As Austin Powers says).......2007-11-02
I guess this radio was designed by a grey alien because it HURTS MY EARS! OUCHKABOOBLE!!!!!
I am a human last I checked and these alien peripherals just plain hurt!
Also, the reception plain stinks, I use it around the house with an FM transmitter hooked up to my computer which allows me to walk around and listen to my favorite radio shows. For that the reception is good, but then again, I'm the broadcasting station.
The ear pieces have to go! or sell them in Beta Reticuli.
I MISS MY HM55 which broke after 5 years of use. Why isn't Sony making them any more? This is total junk!
Hurts and has piercing high pitch noise.......2006-08-13
I bought this for use at the gym where different TVs are set to different frequencies. Ear plugs are made of a hard plastics and hurt my ears. When tuned to any frequency, you can hear a high frequency continuous noise.
Sony should take this product back and apologize to its customers.
If I wanted ear pain I'd listen to John Tesh.......2006-06-28
One star, only because zero is not a selection.
Have to agree with the others who criticized this product. After removing it from the packaging I never even made it to the point of putting in a battery to listen. I put it on and tried adjusting the ear pieces over and over, then took a break and tried it again, and I never got anything but pain no matter the setting. And the pain persisted for an hour or two afterwards, it was as if somebody had held me down and forced something unpleasant into my ear canals with a bit of force. Bottom line, this radio is so poorly designed that I never made it to the point of putting in a battery and turning it on before packing it back into the packaging and sack to return it tomorrow.
I previously had a Sony headphone radio, SRF-HM55, that was an excellent product. Why they decided that comfort not only does not matter, but that they should strive for the least comfortable design possible, is beyond me. I will be looking to other companies for my small electronics needs in the future, if they can screw up something this simple so badly I shudder to think what else they have on the market.
Sony headset.......2005-11-22
This has to be one of the worse products ever. How can any normal person use this product without PAIN when wearing it? Its got to be one of the worse engineered products. The ear piece just makes no sense. Save your money and buy a more traditional headset with a comfortable ear piece.
Comfortable it's not........2005-09-18
The tiny earbuds looked like a better idea. I'm used to my Etymotic earbuds and expected a move ahead from Sony. Instead, it was a giant lurch backward. The electronics have improved over earlier models, but those pesky earbuds - OUCH!!! Be sure to try one on before you spend your bucks on one.

Customer Reviews:
No good!!.......2007-02-09
When I first turned it on it sounded a little fuzzy so I decided to really try it out. I went for a walk and it couldn't keep a clear station unless you were standing completely still; and even then another station might interfere. The whole time I was suppose to be enjoying my walk I was fumbling with the stations- trying to find one that stayed clear for more than a minute!
An EXCELLENT CHOICE for AM/FM armband radios........2006-08-22
If you are in the market for an armband AM/FM radio, to use in the gym or while jogging or whatever, than this model, the JENSEN SAB-55 is exactly the right one for you to buy.
I've had many armband radios. I am a jogger, kayaker, I love to walk, and I love the gym. I absolutely must have radio while working out. Whatever you do, DO NOT buy the SONY Walkman SRF-M85V armband radio. You may be tempted because it looks cool, has a nice armband, and boasts many features. Trust me. I've gone through two of them. The first one broke. It was the older model with 2 AAA batteries. The new one, that uses only one battery, gets HORRIBLE reception. There are very few AM/FM armband radios out there, so I know you've stumbled upon SONY products. Don't buy it!!! Sony provides a sub-standard product, and on top of it, they have no interest in hearing customer feedback. I emailed and called them asking to send them a simple one paragraph email suggesting changes and pointing them to Amazon feedback about their radio. They didn't want to hear any of it. They basically emailed me back, advising that they've done everything they can for me. They basically refused to pass my feedback on to the engineers and parties responsible for the development of their products. Sony had no interest in what I had to say.
Look, this Jensen gets great reception. It is VERY inexpensive, under $20, and it has all the features you need. You don't want to overspend on an AM/FM armband radio, because you're going to go knock it around alot while jogging, kayaking, etc. This radio is inexpensive, as it should be. AM/FM does not need to be expensive. I've had this radio for a long time, and it's been bumped around a LOT, and it still works great. It is a no frills radio, with a digital tuner, presets in both AM and FM, with great reception, Bass boost, Clock. What more do you need?
The only two things I'll suggest to you, is that the programming is similar to learning how to program a digital watch. It takes a couple times to memorize the push this, tune that, push this, routine. Also, be sure to thread the armband through the slots on the belt-clip. If you don't the radio will fall off your arm, and I don't think the manual explained the threading procedure very well. The armband is very flexible, just shove it through.
So again, don't be tempted by the $40 AM/FM radio put out by Sony. Be wary of single battery armband radios too. Stay cheap. Don't buy the GBX, by the way. The battery compartment requires a screwdriver. Stick with the basic, perfect, JENSEN SAB-55. I passionately recommend it!
Is pretty good.......2006-03-18
I had the Sony s2 armband radio. I could not pick up any stations either at home or in the gym. I can pick up all the
stations that my car can now with this Bad boy! It feels a little on the cheap side but for the price it is great. The ear buds are very cheap. I purchased another pair and the sound is great.
Overall the sound is nice to walk or run with. The radio and its buttons feel cheap. I love the radio receiving all channels. I have had no problems with it. Well worth the 15 dollars.
Button broke after 1 week.......2005-11-23
Sadly, the 'Band' button broke the first week. So I can no longer get to the FM band. I like listening to talk radio on the AM band, but the reception is not as good as the old Sony I had. Have to go buy another radio somewhere now.

Great head phones.......2002-09-25
Sony thinks of nearly everything! They even give you a wire so if you want you can hook these up to your walkman and use them for regular headphones.
*The radio picks up very good
*They have a nice red display so you can see how to tune in the dark.
* and they only use 1 AAA battery so they are very light
