Simple and efficient.......2007-12-21
This is all you need. It is simple and easy. Do not buy anything more complicate than that.
Works very well, but switch is annoying.......2007-12-13
This device is only good for basic operations of forward/backwards of the slides and screen blanking. It does not move the mouse around or anything. It is easier to hold than the others I have used and that is a big plus.
The switch on the side is annoying as it is hard to move and if you leave it on, the battery will run down. They should have used a slide to power on style (with an off timer after non-use).
The laser pointer works well and the shape of the device makes it easy to hold steady.
Note that if you are presenting to a live audience, the laser pointer style is perfect. If you are presenting across the internet (e.g. GoTo meeting), then the laser is worthless and you should consider the more expensive ones that let you move the mouse cursor around.
Good product.......2007-12-12
Pretty small and light. Fits well in your hand. Works perfectly. I'm completely satisfied with this purchase.
good laser pointer.......2007-12-02
Targus Wireless Presenter with Laser Pointer
It works well, powerful laser for medium size rooms/classrooms.
battery life is ok, but you have to remember to shut it off.
I suggest using rechargeable batteries.
works also to change slide on presentations and switch to different applications, though it is easy to get confused
Works great.......2007-11-30
It does exactly what the product description said it would do, and exactly what I expected it to do for the price. It doesn't do a whole lot, but it does control my PowerPoint presentations well, and that's what I bought it for. I'm happy. The laser pointer maybe could have been a bit more powerful, but it wasn't expensive, so I'm not too worried.

Presenting an excellent mouse!.......2007-12-24
I was simply looking for a Bluetooth mouse. I found an excellent replacement for my Logitech Media Mouse. It has some different functions, but all of the multi-button functions are there and the presenter buttons on the bottom are really cool. My IT guy set up the mouse for me (thems the rules) so I do not know how it is to setup, but it works flawlessly.
I only have 2 observations (not really complaints). The first is that while this mouse has all of the whistles and bells of a desktop mouse, it is still notebook size. It is a little small for extended use. The second is that the extra buttons on the sides normally used for 'back' and 'forward' are in awkward positions.
The 'click' is smooth, the scroll is smooth and the pointer motion and positioning is precise. This is an excellent mouse.
microsoft's big hit.......2007-12-21
a really functional and elegant mouse with lots of really great features. works fine, fast and realiably and looks very classy. trully recommended peripheral.
Less than perfect, better than awful.......2007-12-13
First of all, I have to assume that Microsoft has improved the documentation since some of the earlier reviews were written, as I DID find instructions on how to use the mouse with another Bluetooth adapter, such as the one found in a notebook. What they don't tell you is that the Microsoft IntelliPoint software will not recognize such a connection so you can't use any of its special features. But you can do almost everything needed.
The mouse does work with the built-in Bluetooth of my ThinkPad T42p, but not all features are available. The mouse motion, left and right buttons and scroll wheel work, as do the presentation buttons, but the two side buttons for the magnifier and "digital ink", etc., do not. More to the point, Microsoft's software does not recognize any connection other than through their dongle, so you can't customize anything.
Contrary to a comment I read, the IntelliPoint software did NOT disable my Thinkpad's Trackpoint mouse. It did make me uninstall Logitech mouse software I had, though.
On my ThinkPad T42p, I used the ThinkPad's Bluetooth Setup Wizard, select "I want to find a specific Bluetooth device". Then put the mouse into discovery mode by pushing and holding the recessed button on the bottom until the light flashes. Click Next and have it search for devices. It will find the mouse and then find the service. You're done.
With this setup, everything (that I have tried so far) works with the exception of the side buttons and clicking the mouse wheel. The rest of the mouse functions and the presenter functions work, even blanking the screen in PowerPoint. I have not tried the media buttons, though.
Some things I like about this product:
- Nice shape for the hand
- Compact
- Good quality laser pointer
- Smooth scroll wheel with the side scrolling feature
- Handy presenter functions
Some things I don't like:
- Wobbles a bit when clicking a mouse button
- No visible indicator that it is switched on
- Software does not recognize non-MS Bluetooth
- Case is bulky and does not securely hold dongle (if you're using it.)
- Can't use mouse pointer without switching modes (my separate presentation mouse had its own directional pad plus left and right buttons.)
I was previously using a Logitech wireless (non-BT) travel mouse and a separate presentation mouse, each of which had its own dongle. I'm happy to go dongle-less with one device.
I like it.......2007-12-12
It's a mouse, it does not cook, clean or do the laundry, but it's small, easy to carry around, comes with USB BT so it can be used on more then one PC at a time. One thing that MS should look into is making the scroll wheel with some resistance, sometimes, while moving the mouse, the page would scroll, because it trigerred the scroll wheel. The good things is mouse works during Windows install, which is great! The small size will make some people dislike it, because the buttons will seem out of place, then again, some people don't like notebook keyboards or cell phones for the same reason. My suggestion is, if you don't have overly large hands, like tiny cell phones that gets lost in your pocket, then this is for you - assuming you need a small mouse to go with the small notebook.
Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 .......2007-10-22
Easy to install and use, better touch
than a USB Mouse, remote use works as
advertised. Highly recommend. Just be
sure to turn off after use, so the
batteries don't run down.

Customer Reviews:
Its okie for the price.......2007-12-30
When i got this mouse, it took me almost an hour to make this mouse work in my Windows XP environment. The document is insufficient (both on the box and website) as it does not explain how to configure the mouse for the first time when the receiver is plugged into the system. there is a tiny reset button on the receiver which needs to reset after pluging this device to the system for the first so that it recognizes the wireless mouse and this button is not easily noticeable for the first time unless you thoroughly look into it. The lack of documention from targus pissed me of as i have to google the information for almost an hour. I believe lack of proper documentation is the reason i find lot of people are not able to configure this device for the first time and they have to return it back. otherwise i did not have any problems as other reviewers and i have been using this for few days at home and work without any problem.
Good Wireless Optical Mouse at a GREAT Price!.......2007-11-23
I just got this mouse as part of a "notebook essentials" kit, and it's proven to be a fine value for the money. A few things:
**The size is great for travel... maybe it's too small if you have large fingers, or too heavy if you're a 98 lb. weakling... for everyone else, it's fine.
Easy of use and the movement is as smooth as my corded infrared mouse at home (granted, I've never used it further away from my laptop than about 2 feet).
The blinking blue light on the USB part is a little annoying, but you will know for sure your connected
**The sleep mode is great... if you click on a button, it comes to life immediately. My guess is the earlier reviewer with the problem had an older laptop.
The earlier reviewer was incorrect, this mouse is totally plug-and-play and you can plug it in whenever you like, before powering up, in the middle of working on something... whatever. Note if you find it not plug and play, you seriously need some Windows updates.
The buttons and scroll wheel work perfectly.
Here's the bottom line: upon seeing it in action and finding out the price, two of my friends went out and bought one. It's not perfect, but it's great for the price.
Given up with Targus.......2007-11-17
My first one lasted a few months before it stopped working. The manufacturer replaced it and the next one lasted about ten months but it has now died on me. I wasn't dropped and only used once a week. So the quality is very poor in my experience.
Save your money..........2007-10-30
The only time this presenter worked was when I was standing beside my computer. As a school teacher, that is not an option. I also found the buttons to be extremely confusing and the enclosed manual was absolutely NO help at all.
Great quality and build!.......2007-09-18
Great quality and build. Has survived numerous drops on the floor, recharging works perfectly, good precision, the on/off switch is also really useful. I'll never buy Logitech again.

Good Functions But Bad Range.......2007-10-06
I bought this for my classroom and used it a few times. I loved the fact that it has a mouse function and a laser pointer(though it is a very weak laser). However, this product failed to deliver where it's needed the most and that is the range. I'm not sure why the last guy says it works from 40-50 feet but mine was only able to work within 10 feet. I also had to point my presenter directly at the USB device to work. At this range, I might as well walk to the computer to change a slide. Junk.
Excellent & Reliable Power Point Remote.......2007-07-03
I am a scholar/lecturer who relies regularly on this device to provide remote control over power point lectures. The problem? Often the computer is in one part of the room, while access to the screen or podium is several feet away. This device is an elegant solution to the vexing problem of logistics in the classroom. I have run lectures from up to 40-50 feet away with no problems at all.
This very small and lightweight unit easily stows away in a shoulder bag or computer case. I carry mine everywhere--and generally forget I have it until I need it. It is ideal for classroom use, or when you have to rely on a laptop or --worse--someone else's computer at a presentation. It seems to work on any Windows-based machine, including VISTA. And it resolves the musical chairs problem generally associated with seminars with multiple presentations: with this device, the speaker can remain at his or her seat, and run the entire presentation remotely. Very efficient.
The device works in two modes: either as a power point device: not just forward and back, but also keys that toggle full screen versus small screen, as well as screen on and off. There is also a handy laser pointer, allowing the lecturer to use the same device for control and pointing.
The second mode converts the remote into a wireless mouse. I don't really have much use for this capability, and having used full-featured wireless remotes that enable full control over multimedia operations like showing dvds or playing music, I would propose getting the full-featured remote. This device is meant to be a reliable device for power point controls on windows-based machines. Nothing more. The wireless mouse adds the ability to browse the internet remotely--but without a keyboard that seems to be a fairly limited feature.
I strongly disagree with the two negative reviewers that precede this review. First, this is specifically marked as a Windows-only device, so why criticize it for not working well on a Mac? Second, the only time functionality declines is when the battery power is low. No surprise there.
All in all, this is a very solidly made and reliable piece of equipment.
Waste of money.......2007-06-06
The reception is hit and miss. It does not work unless you are at the right angle and within range (about 10 feet). Spend the extra money and get one of better quality.
Cannot use laser and mouse at the same time........2007-05-25
This is an awful product. It is the most useless laser pointer+mouse combination I have ever attempted to use.
For one, the mouse operation is choppy at best on a Mac. The sensitivity is far too high and is not easily adjusted. Its operation is adequate on a PC (running XP).
More importantly, the laser pointer can only be used when the switch in the middle of the device is switched into laser mode. When that happens, the mouse buttons don't work. To use the mouse button, the switch has to be put into mouse mode, which turns off the laser pointer. This makes no sense to me because:
*) There is an off button on the side of the laser pointer, so this clearly isn't meant to prevent accidental laser presses while in the pocket.
*) The laser button is DIFFERENT than the mouse buttons, so this clearly is not a way to minimize the number of buttons on the device.
Avoid this product. There are much better products elsewhere. I returned this product the day I received it.

I bouth this pointer for my presentations. I has a good range, not excellent, but you can use it very easily even if you are a bit away from the CPU. I've tested from about 20 yards off and it worked well. No complaints here
