Not perfect, broken after a year.......2007-12-15
I bought this mouse on sale a year ago for $5. Well, you get what you pay for! I love that this mouse is so small, lightweight and compact. It fit perfectly with my laptop. However, I found a few quirks. First of all, the mouse only seems to work on wood grain surfaces. The optical scanner had problems tracking when I put the mouse on a blank piece of white paper or any other paper printouts with words on it. The retractable cord works well, but sometimes it gets jammed and it doesn't retract fully on the first try. The other problem I found with such a small mouse is that my hand would get cramps using such a tiny mouse (and I have a REALLY small hand too! I wear a size 3 wedding ring). Finally, the worst part is that the left click button stopped working one day. This tells me that the mouse isn't very durable. I only used the mouse for 2 hours a day over a year. I am planning on buying a replacement mouse from another company, and getting a slighter bigger mouse so I don't get hand cramps again....

I went through 2 different mice before I realized this item just isn't worth it! I initially thought that I was the problem of the first mouse only working for 4 months. But when I purchased the 2nd one, it only lasted 6.5 months.

Don't buy this unless you want to get the wrong product. They sent me a black mouse with no blue light! Not even worth it to pay the return postage. Find a Logitech instead - the company that sells these is obviously disorganized.

Because it is so mini, so small, it is hard to use after just a few minutes. Fingers get all cramped! Otherwise it is a good little mouse.

This is the lightest most appropriate USB mouse for a laptop. Therefore, when the first one developed a crack in the cable, I immediately replaced it with a new one. I have wound the part of the cable near the mouse with electrical tape in hopes that this will prevent the kind of breaking which my first one suffered.
Unfortunately, those selling this product have by now figured out that there is nothing else on the market which is just like this one. Therefore, the price has gone up from $11. to almost $30. I therefore recommend winding electrical tape around the first inch of the cable from the get-go so you won't have to buy this product twice.

I'm using the mouse right now. Susan is right about laptop touch-pads. I find them extremely annoying ... which is why I use an IBM ThinkPad. Along with my ThinkPad I use my ATEK mouse, sometimes on my right thigh while the laptop is on my left. Works fine ... with one exception: as Soumya pointed out, the responsiveness of the buttons has dropped off. That said, I'm ordering another one for my company issued laptop.

This is a small mouse that fits easily in my laptop bag. I was initially afraid that it would be difficult to move around as i was used to larger traditional mice. However, once I (quickly) got used to it, I found that its even easier and more comfortable to use than large ergonomic mice -- the reason being that you can simply rest your wrist on the table and push this mouse around with your fingers. Your whole hand need not move! Very nice feel to it for me.
The only downside to the atek mouse that i bought was that after a year or so of use, its buttons became less responsive -- sometimes clicks just don't register. Could it be that this small mouse isn't as rugged as I had hoped? I haven't banged this mouse around and always keep it in its soft pouch in my bag, so I'm a little dissappointed that its causing problems now. I'm not sure if others who have been using this mouse for a long time have had this same problem. But despite that, I'd still quite likely that I'd buy this mouse again.
The only feature I miss (from larger mice), is a scrollwheel of some kind. If someone at Atek could stick an Apple Mighty-Mouse style micro-scroller on this mouse, I would marry them, *and* buy the mouse again for sure.

Bought this mouse to replace a Bluetooth mouse which kept loosing its connection to the computer. This mouse has been working perfectly. I realy like that the cord winds up into the little spool. Perfect for my laptop. I don't think it would be too good for a desktop though.
The retractable cable doesn't last.......2007-04-03
I got this mouse for Christmas and I really loved it--So easy to use with the laptop and no long cables in the way. BUT... after just 3 months the cable stopped working. If you get this mouse or a similar cable, be careful with it. The mouse still works fine using a different cable, but I'm very disappointed that the retractable cable didn't last.

The mouse is compact, but not so small as to be difficult to use for an average adult hand. In my opinion, the retractable cord could be a few inches longer, but it gets the job done. I would probably opt for a wireless version next time around and totally eliminate the cord from the equation.

This product is comparable to the Targus product PAUM01U. Both are about half the dimensions of a conventional mouse. The optical input means no more cleaning a track ball, making it ideal for travel and spontaneous use on any encountered surface. The retractable cable is a move of genius, long overdue, and works like a charm. And the USB connection is a snap, with no software needed.
Only two cons: The carrying bag is functionally protective, though could perhaps be a bit more padded. And, to put the mouse into that bag, the wire has to bend just between the retracting device and the mouse itself; over time, that seems to risk breakage.
But on balance? Fantastic. And for the price? Bravo!

I can't use a touchpad, and this mouse works well in the area beside the touchpad on my laptop. I bought it nearly two years ago, and in spite of constant packing and unpacking into it carry bag, the cord is finally going. I need to buy another one, but two years of reliability for $30 is not bad.

It's really really small, just a little wider than my thumb.
The USB cable is also extra thin as well as being shorter than a normal USB mouse cable.
I was looking for an optical mouse I could carry around comfortably in my pocket. Now I've found one. This makes all the other small portable mice I've tried look big.
It works fine as a mouse. I tend to use mice with just my fingers, with the heel of my palm either in the air or resting on the surface of the desk behind the mouse. This mouse is just large enough to use this way.

I recently outfitted several workstations with the Fellowes and sadly realized too late that you have to click them two or THREE times to activate them. I just "right-click", but anybody who doesn't know just assumes their broken. And everyday users hate them because if the mouse is located over an icon, clicking on it (or activating) launches whatever program it happens to be hanging over at the time. IRRITATING AS HELL! Microsoft's wireless keyboard and mouse is so much better. They were more expensive, but in the end would have been cheaper. Consider yourself warned.

This mouse looks sleek and works great when the cable is connected!!! I didnt spend all that money for a CORDED mouse!!!.. When the cords are removed...the range is very bad...They advertise 6FT range...what I really get is less than 6 inches range!!! I even got this exchanged for another one and even the new one is bad. I'd go for another brand of cordless mouse. This one's just not worth the money!!
Does A Higher Price Indicate Quality?.......2004-06-04
I have been using a large Logitech cordless mouse with my laptop, and decided to look for a mini mouse that would take up less space while traveling. There were a variety of them in the store, most of them priced less than the Fellowes. Once again my highly fallible logic suggested that a higher price must mean a better mouse. When will I ever stop thinking this way? Well, it also looked cute, and one can't overlook this factor.
My first problem with it was the instruction that I must uninstall all other mouse programs on the computer, an assignment that I have never faced in the past. This means I can't use my great Logitech mouse anymore? Well, this wouldn't be too bad providing the Fellowes proves to be a top notch mouse.
Well, it isn't. The mouse seems to have more friction between itself and the mouse pad or other hard surface. It's small, but you have to push it harder to overcome it's striking inertia. Then there are the batteries. My Logitech has a nice recharging stand, but the Fellowes requires you to run a wire from the mouse to the USB port receiver whenever it needs charging. And, unfortunately it needs a lot of recharging. Unlike some other battery driven mice, it doesn't give any advance warning that it is running out of steam. It works perfectly one second, and the next second it is dead. The wire system also is cumbersome, and, in my experience, doesn't fully recharge the batteries. Plus, it only seems to charge (a several hour process) when the computer is on, and that is a nuisance. So I had to buy a separate battery charger and some more batteries. I keep three extra sets of charged batteries on hand at all times so that I will not be powerless right in the middle of some task.
I would suggest that you try a different mouse than this one. If the one you do choose isn't any better, well, at least you probably didn't have to pay this price for it.
The ultimate notebook mouse?.......2003-09-18
Not quite--but close to it. It's very well engineered and constructed. The mouse is comfortable (for a mini mouse) and the transmitter is a flash-disk sized USB dongle. Plug the mouse into the transmitter to recharge the 2 AAA NiMH batteries and you can still use it as if it were a corded mouse so there's no down time or hunting for replacement batteries. They include a 6" USB extension that you can use in case the transmitter blocks other ports on the computer. It's also very attractive looking.
I use it on a Mac Powerbook, and Apple just announced a cordless mouse that uses Bluetooth so there's no dongle at all. Brilliant! If Fellowes comes out with a Bluetooth model then I think it may be perfect.

Right out of the package the mouse seemed suspiciously cheap; from it's low grade plastic body to buttons that barely click. Even the manual is flawed with numerous spelling mistakes suggesting it was written by someone who barely speaks English. During use, the cursor skips across the screen with little control and when attempting to select an icon nothing happens. Shame on you Inland.
