Amazon.com Product Description
Add wireless freedom, stylish looks, and one-touch features to your desktop with the Wireless Optical Desktop Pro keyboard and mouse combination. This desktop package features customizable keys, optical mouse technology, and a comfortable, ergonomic design. The Wireless MultiMedia keyboard's split, gently sloped shape encourages a natural hand, wrist, and forearm position for maximum comfort. Also, your digital media activities are within easy reach--start, play, and navigate music and video clips with the touch of a button. Customizable hot keys let you quickly start Messenger, Mail, Internet, and Calculator programs. And get one-touch access to files stored in the My Documents, My Pictures, and My Music folders in Windows. Perform common tasks right from your keyboard--press a button to open, close, and save documents, send and forward e-mails, put the computer to sleep, log off, and more. Press the F LOCK key to toggle between standard and enhanced function key commands.
The mouse's wider, clear scroll wheel allows you to comfortably move through documents and Web pages quickly without clicking the scroll bar. Accelerated scrolling reacts to how quickly you roll the wheel, saving you time and effort. And the optical sensor replaces your mouse ball, for accuracy and precision--no mouse pad needed. It's ambidextrous, too--whether you control it with your right or left hand, the wireless optical mouse is shaped for comfort.
Both the keyboard and mouse work within six feet of the included receiver, even if your computer is out of sight. The pair comes with a three-year warranty.

Keep on typin'!.......2007-12-26
Batteries last longer than the claim of 6 months, so I can keep typing without gettin' tangled up in mouse/keyboard wires! Ergonomic set-up is definitely a plus...no carpal tunnel for me!
I LIKE MY WIRELESS KEYBOARD AND MOUSE COMBO.......2007-12-18
I took the keyboard out of the box and went right to work. I'd used wireless pointers before, but not keyboards. It got my laptop off my lap, and worked from across the room with my son's desktop. I recommended them to co-workers, and some bought their own. The mouse is a little big to call "portable", but I still take it around the house.Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro
Nice design, no range.......2007-12-08
Ive gone through three of these. The first one I had (prolly a first generation) was great. It had a decent, but not outstanding range, and I do like the design. When it died I got a second that was faulty. The keys would only register if you placed the receiver an inch from the keyboard. The third wasn't much better. It barely registered the signal when the receiver and the keyboard were in very close proximity and would still miss keys. I went ahead and got a Logitech wireless split keyboard and like it much better. It has a nice solid feel to it, and will consistently register keystrokes from over 3-4 feet away, something none of my MS keyboard would have ever done.
Id give it more stars for the design, but a well designed wireless keyboard with no range is kinda like a beautifully designed car with no engine. They're nice to look at, but cant perform their primary purpose.
Awesome.......2007-11-02
It came just in time, before I could crash my computer. I love the wireless keyboard and mouse. Brand new
Nice fix for too many wires, plus good product design.......2007-10-31
The MS Wireless Optical Desktop Pro helped solve a wire clutter problem, hooking up a keyboard and mouse to my laptop. My wife and I like the ergonomic split keyboard. It's very smooth and quiet in operation. What is really nice is the mouse. It has great features (a magnification button on the side, which is very nice for websites with small print). Plus, the scroll wheel can move from side to side, so you can scroll horizontally as well as the standard vertical scroll (no more going to the bottom of the screen to grab the little box and drag it left or right). Finally, clicking the scroll wheel (pressing down) will give you mini-windows of all open applications, which you can then click on. It's an improved version of the old ALT-TAB combination keyboard command. The mouse has a very smooth scrolling action, very precise feel to it. All in all, a very nice product that also claims improved battery life.

Stops Working.......2007-02-12
I had the same experience that someone else had. When I first bought this, it worked great, but after a while, the range got worse and worse. I finally moved the transmitter about a foot away from the keyboard and mouse and they wouldn't work. I changed the batteries and that did not help. I don't know if this eventually happens with all wireless keyboards, but I would not recommend buying this one.
Refurbished means dirty, not sure if it works.......2007-01-28
Haven't plugged this in. It is supposed to be refurbished. Took a long time to get here and is filthy. It would take me 20-30 minutes to clean it up so I will probably just give it to someone and buy a new one. A waste of money. I did not buy this from Microsoft. Bought it from some other source online.
Microsoft Wireless Optical keyboard and mouse.......2007-01-10
Bought this product for our daughter for Christmas. She loved it so much, her sister bought one later. Very convenient.
Great feel.......2007-01-09
The mouse just snugs into your palm. Sips on battery ; so it lasts forever.
Would buy it again.
Great while it lasted.......2006-11-25
I bought this set a while ago and it was great. Everything worked fine although sometime the keyboard would lose reception if it was at a bad angle. About a year later it just stopped working. When I insert new batteries it works for about 5 min and then stops again with the light on the mouse turning off. I would not recommend buying this is you need to use it for longer than a year.

My favorite wireless keyboard and mouse.......2007-09-12
I've been using Microsoft's ergonomic keyboards for at least a decade now. After getting used to the layout of the keys, I can't imagine using a regular keyboard again. The amount of strain that's reduced from my wrists and fingers is immeasurable.
I decided to upgrade to a wireless keyboard and mouse, which seems to be the thing to do these days. I couldn't be happier.
On the top row above the function keys are buttons for:
- My Documents
- My Pictures
- My Music
- Mail
- Media (for me, it opens iTunes, and did so without me having to do anything)
- Web/Home
- Messenger (MSM)
Also above the Function Keys, directly in the middle, are buttons to control sound or visual media. There's a:
- Mute button
- Pause/Play
- Stop
- Increase volume
- Decrease volume
- Skip forward
- Skip backward
Above the Numeric keypad are buttons for:
- Calculator
- Log Off
- Sleep
The function keys themselves have their numeric designator on the front side of the key, and has the actual function of the key on top (like the letter "I" is on "top" of the key for that letter). In order, they are:
- Help
- Undo
- Redo
- New
- Open
- Close
- Reply
- Forward
- Send
- Spell
- Save
- Print
There's also a key for "F Lock".
One major difference between this wireless keyboard and other "wired" keyboards is that there are no indicator lights for Caps Lock, Num Lock, or Scroll Lock. Instead, when you press one of those keys, a visual appears in the lower right hand corner of the screen that tells you if that particular function is off or on. The volume works the same way. A visual bar appear on the lower right hand corner of the screen that goes up and down (left and right, really) depending on your adjustments.
The mouse has some great features too. There are two buttons on the left side of the mouse. Clicking the top button (Microsoft calls it the "small button") magnifies a portion of the screen. I use it if I have a lot to read (say, a long encyclopedia article). I lean back comfortably in my chair, click the button, and have no trouble seeing. Because the mouse is wireless, I can bring it back with me and control the movement on a mousepad on my lap. However, if this function seems worthless to you, the software that accompanies the keyboard and mouse can set that button to do a couple of dozen other tasks. The lower button (or the "large button") takes you "back" if you're on the web. That, too, can be customized to do any number of things. In fact - not only can you change default settings for these extra buttons, you can also change default settings for the left and right click buttons, and choose what happens when you press on the wheel button.
The keyboard itself can also have default settings changed.
This is a terrific keyboard and mouse. One thing that will look a bit strange coming out of the box is that while all the keys (not function keys and those above them, but letter keys, number keys, Tab, etc.) are black, they're also clear. It gives the impression of the keyboard being shiny. I'd rather it not look that way, but that's the one default setting you can't change.

Works great in the right place.......2005-09-07
I bought two of these units for use in conference rooms with projectors where distance from the computer is an issue. These operate, reliably, well in excess of 30 feet. The keyboard is too bulky, in my opinion, for normal use at a typical desk. The mouse works great anywhere, though. I would give it 5 stars except for the fact that after a couple of weeks the keyboard quit working and I had to re-install the keyboard software. I deducted 1 star for annoying me. I am using these with a Dell desktop compter and the USB external reciever. The side to side scrolling ability of the mouse wheel is great; you don't have to search for the, sometimes tiny, scroll button on the screen.

Customer Reviews:
keyboard is crap.......2006-12-20
The keyboard itself has a nice feel, but after just two months of using it, the keys are getting more and more unresponsive, and have to be pressed harder. I wish I had read the other reviews before I bought this one.
Mouse OK but keyboard has issues........2006-10-10
I own two of these keyboards and on the overall, it is ok. The main problem that BOTH have is range for one (as mentioned by another reviewer) and the fact that they seem to have an issue with holding the ctl or shift key while selecting files.
Many times I have been in the process of selecting files by holding the CTL and clicking on the mouse only to look and see all my selections go away as the keyboard just 'lets go' of the ctl key while I am still holding it.
Also not very good for gaming at all for the same reason. The keys will just 'let go' even though you have not.
Good mouse but not the keyboard.......2006-02-03
I have been using these bundle for a while and decided to write a little bit detail about it.
- Good thing first:
+ The signal is strong (or at least I never seen any signal drop or anything).
+ Mouse is pretty smooth. I like the silence scrolling of the middle wheel button. I must disagree with the person review before me because by default, this button is set for changing to the next application window (like ALT-TAB). You can change this default behavior easily.
+ Keyboard has the volumn control keys which are very useful.
- How about the bad and the ugly?
+ Well, the keyboard is certainly a huge drawback:
* No light indicator to say if the keyboard is on or not, is the capslock, numlock... on or not. The only way you can have a clue about what mode the keyboard are operating in is by typing something to see the behavior.
* Sometimes, the signal from the keyboard to the receiver got repeated. Which means you are typing something and it accidentally display your letter repeatedly like thisssssssssss.
+ To have the full functional keyboard and mouse, you have to enable two programs provided and run them in the background. If not, numerous new keys will be useless.
+ The default values of many keys are not very familiar. The middle wheel of the mouse is an example. More than that, all F's keys are set to new values. You have to press another key to activate the normal mode of these F's keys.
+ On the small keypad between the alphabet pad and number pad, the INSERT key is missing, it is annoying to me since I use this key a lot.
If you really to buy a good stuff, try Logitech which can be expensive but very reliable. Microsoft hardware stuffs seem to get more and more sloppy.
Horrible -- do not buy.......2006-01-21
I am returning my unit tonight - it is not a good product. The problems include:
* Range is about 6", yes inches. I have the keyboard/mouse on a keyboard tray and the transmitter sitting on the desk. It complains about having a weak signal. The keyboard also misses keystrokes because of this. I'm using the batteries supplied with the product.
* Middle mouse clicks are nearly impossible. I use a browser that supports middle-mouse click to open a new window in the background. This is virtually impossible to use with this mouse. You have to try at least 5 times to get the mouse to register a middle click.
* The keyboard itself is a little cramped compared to my old, wired Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite.
