I have had this keyboard for years now. I really do not use the "internet" keys, but i really like the calculator key, seeing how im always looking to do a quick calculation.
It might not be as quite as other keyboards, but the keys feel fine to push, and after years they have not broke or got stikky, and i have used it alot Daily.
The arm rest is the best feature, along with the Huge spacebar. The keys feel very natural, and i like how they slope up. Well worth the money.

Keys Wear Out Quickly.......2002-09-30
I have this keyboard, and I was here looking for a new one because the one I have is wearing out. If you use certain keys a lot, for instance the control key for your keyboard shortcuts, the keys wear out really fast and they start sticking. My control key only lasted 5 months, (I bought it 5 months ago) and now I have to push it really hard to get it to respond, and it sticks horribly.

I bought this keyboard from a retail store not Amazon, anyway I was assured that it was compatable with any system. I had a 3 year old Compaq running on Windows 98. All was fine until I hit the Calculator key on the keyboard and an error message appeared saying that the system was disabled.
After $300 worth of diagnoisis a technician informed me that the Mircosoft keyboard fried the mother board and that I may as well purchase a new computor, another $1500. There will be another $200-300 worth of incedental expense, needless to say I am not happy.
About 10 days ago I sent an email to Micrsoft merely asking for an explanation not restitution and I have not heard back.

A lot of keyboard for a little money.......2005-02-07
Sure, there are cheaper keyboards out there. But for a little more cash, you can get a lot more keyboard. Microsoft's software could use some work (to say the least), but its hardware is top-notch. This may be their "value" offering, but they haven't skimped on quality. Keys are well-marked, not likely to smudge, and the excellent key response makes touch-typing a breeze. The layout's more traditional too, not the odd one featured on higher-end models. Having only 10 utility keys may seem constricting until you consider that they can be completely and easily reprogrammed.
About the only thing this is missing is a USB connection, so you can't use this with a Mac or a PC that lacks so-called "legacy" ports. Most consumer-level desktops haven't done away with them yet, so you probably don't need to worry. But that's a very minor quibble. If you're on a relatively tight budget but want a keyboard that'll last, look no further. (On the other hand, if you're looking for something a little beefier, seek out its discontinued sibling, the Internet Keyboard Pro.)

After three years of using the same keyboard without cleaning it I came to a simple conclusion. I either had to remove all the keys and find out what I had for snack three years ago, or simply go back online and find another keyboard and have HAZMAT remove the old one from my house. Since I wasn't sure where my tax dollars are going these days, I decided to go with the second option. So, with HAZMAT on the road, I ordered this fine piece of machinery from Amazon with price and reliability in mind.
Let me just say that I have been impressed. The wrist rest itself is worth the buy for comfort alone. They keys are quick and it has been easy to adjust from the old keyboard. To simply put it, this is a cheap, simple keyboard for those that are not looking for elaborate side items for their computer. It has all the needed buttons and (don't worry I counted) all the numbers and letters from my old keyboard. Microsoft has not tried to cheat me out of my hard earned money ... yet.
Overall, I am impressed. This was the easiest keyboard purchase I have made in a long time and the fact that this review is being written by the keyboard that I just purchased should be its own testimonial. I suggest this piece of equipment to anyone that needs to revamp or clean. This is the perfect solution.

Frappuccino Fracas.......2004-08-29
In my as yet uncaffeinated state, I was sitting at my keyboard shaking my morning bottle of Frappucino. Unfortunately, I had forgotten (axons and dendrites are not fully functional without caffeine) that I had already loosened the lid. So, there was that sticky liquid all over the keyboard - which then stuck like, well, sticky coffeed keys. This necessitated a new keyboard. I got this one and I am So Happy that the Frappucino Fracas happened! It just feels better and lets me type better than the one that came with my cow (Gateway System.) My thanks to Starbucks and Billy Gates!

Pretty Good, for a keyboard.......2004-06-10
I like this keyboard. I got it at work with a new system, and at first I didn't like it because of the odd shape and extra buttons. I use to just like the plain old 101-key QWERTY, never needing or wanting anything more. After a couple of weeks of using it, though, even I had to admit that it was quite better than my old plain keyboard.
One of the reasons is that it has good keys. They aren't real stiff and give a good feel then pressed, giving good "tactile feedback" that a key has definetly been pressed. Not like an old mechanical keyboard or anything, but better than most. One thing I hate about quiet or soft-key keyboards is that sometimes you aren't sure if your key press registered corretly. With this board, it feels much more positive, which allows me to type faster.
The extra key issue, which at first was annoying and seemed to just take up space, has proved to be actually useful. I still never use the browsing keys, which is where I assume the "Internet" in "Internet Keyboard" came from, but the calculator and My Computer buttons have become second nature to me already. I always find myself slapping at the space where there calculator button should be when I am at a different computer and just expect it to be there, I use it so much. And you don't even need any extra software to get it to work, WinXP automatically recognizes it and all the buttons work right out of the box.
Lastly, the wrist rest, something I never thought would make a difference, does force you to keep your wrists in proper position at least. While it doesn't eliminate fatigue, it does help. Another feature I never would have chosen to look for in a keyboard, but it's nice to have it there now that I do have it.
I'm not usually a Microsoft kind of guy, but even I have to admit, they do make good hardware. This keyboard is a safe, above average buy.

I have had this keyboard for over a year and a half and have had zero problems with it. There is no problem with the keys that I have noticed. I have used this keyboard to write reports, compose correspondence, and play games. I would gladly buy another, especially for the price.

It's a pity and a shame that Microsoft discontinued this keyboard. Their newer keyboards look nice, but they're a little too flashy for me, and I'm not a big fan of the new keyboard layout. If you're looking for the functionality of these newer MS keyboards but with less of the nonsense, this is definitely the way to go. It sports a not-likely-to-offend beige finish and the old-school 104 key layout. Even has a built-in two-port USB hub, the perfect place to plug your USB mouse and game pad. (It's not a powered hub, so don't try plugging in things like printers and hard drives.)
The lower-end Internet Keyboard has 10 additional keys; this thing sports 19. Use them as marked for one-touch access to web browser and media player functionality, or reprogram them to your heart's content. The pain-free driver install and configuration makes this a cinch. And key response is just about perfect; if you don't already know how to touch-type, learn it, and you'll appreciate this even more.
If you can find it, get it. It's more than worth the time and effort.
Great Keyboard... a little too large.......2003-11-02
I bought this keyboard a couple of years ago and have been very happy with it. The only problem is it's size, and I really didn't need all these extra buttons, but other than that, it's a great keyboard. The wrist rest is also quite nice, although I still prefer a gel wrist rest, however with the size of this keyboard, it's easier to use the hard plastic one provided, otherwise the gel one would just keep falling off my desk.
I'm a touch typist, so the position of keys is important and this uses the standard size and spacing which I like. Also, I use this keyboard with both Mac and PC, and the software provided allows me to set the keyboard up perfectly for each platform.
One problem is that it occasionally stops responding and I have to unplug it and plug it back in again, but this doesn't happen that often and is only a minor complaint really. Not as bad as the IntelliMouse Explorer which stops working for days on end.
After getting a thorough soaking with tea, the keyboard obviously stopped working, but after half an hour of cleaning it out and ensuring there was no tea left on the internal contacts, it worked fine, and was much easier to clean out than some keyboards I've tried to repair. So really, it's been pretty damn reliable, even after the tea.
Overall I like this keyboard, but in future, I wouldn't bother with all the additional buttons which never get used to be honest. Without then, I could save an additional inch or two on my desk and have a nice gel wrist rest. However if desk space is not a problem and you get use from them, I can see that they would be useful for some users.
Best ever for power keyboarders.......2003-08-06
I am very hard on keyboards and this is the only one that has lasted for more than a few months - first one lasted more than three years! I am a transcriptionist so spend 8-10 hours everyday using the keyboard for work then later for my own leisure. The spacing between the keys, the key cap size and the layout of the keyboard is a power-user's dream. The weight of the keyboard is heavier than most so it stays in place and really stands up to abuse.
The two USB ports are conveniently located to quickly attach or remove a digital camera or other equipment and when I tried another replacement board I really missed having the ports "right there".
Bottom line is that once I located this keyboard and learned it is no longer manufactured (shame on you MS) I bought two just to make sure I didn't have to buy a keyboard that would slow me down, because this one certainly doesn't.

... from the shelf. This keyboard is now out of circulation. MS decided to discontinue making them, why I dunno. It is great if you have a laptop but like to use a regular Keyboard when space allows. With it's 2 USB ports on the back, you can plug into the USB on your laptop (I only have 1)and still have not 1 but two USB slots available (one for optical mouse and one for digital camera in my case). Great idea, at least I thought... guess MS didn't like the idea of a happy customer.
A Great Keyboard.......2002-09-27
I love this keyboard. I have one at home and I wish I had one at work. This keyboard predates MS's repurposing of function keys and rearrangement of cursor control keys. It's not nearly as pretty as the newer keyboards coming out, but it's a lot more functional if you're a power-keyboarder. The hotkeys are great and completely customizable if you don't like what they're doing. I've hardly reprogrammed any of them, though. My favorite hotkeys are the mute, volume and play controls. They work fine with media players other than Windows Media Player.

Its a good keyboard with built in usb ports. The only issue I had was unrelated to the keyboard itself. Microsoft stiffed me on the rebate, by constantly saying that I lack this or that. After a bit of mail tag, I gave up on the rebate. For a huge multi-billion dollar company, Microsoft is quite cheap with their rebates! So one star lost for their crappy customer service

After using the keyboard extensively, I can't say anything bad about it...it's a solid performer with no quirks or hassles. The mouse is a bit on the basic side, but for the price the two combined is not a bad deal at all.
If you can afford to put down a little more cash, I would recommend the same keyboard with a Wireless Explorer mouse or even better the Logitech Freedom Pro Optical keyboard/mouse combo.

This keyboard/optical mouse combo is an extremely good deal. Your keyboard comes equiped with 2 USB ports, after you use one on your computer, and the mouse, while at times was just slightly confusing to install, works great after everything is setup. I noticed a suddle increase in smoothness while using the mouse, which I really enjoyed, and the keyboard with its "hot keys" makes it easy to utilize the components of your computer at the push of a button. If your purchase this combo pack it will be worth your money. Not to mention the rebate you recieve from Microsoft. Very good deal. Think about it!

I bought this combo 2 months ago, and have been quite pleased with the package. The mouse works great, and I haven't had any problems with the bundled drivers. (In fact, Microsoft just updated the mouse drivers today.)
I have used both the keyboard and the mouse in OS 9 and OS X, both without problems. You have to install the drivers for the keyboard, though, as it has Windows keys (which don't have Mac counterparts). Other than that, great package. Another solid Microsoft product for the Mac.

Unfortunately this crappy keyboard comes without USB output. As result, if you are connecting it to a laptop, or desktop that do not have anymore PS/2 inputs most probably it is not going to work.
I was forced to buy a PS/2 to USB adapter, but now it can offer only very limited functionality. So, try to avoid it if your machine does not have any PS/2 inputs available.

!st of all the description does indicate PS2 port only BUT in a not easy to find place (Watch It In Action - System Requirements) so I don't blame the earlier reviewer for his frustration. The Hot Keys are the ones I use most and are customizable, for example, the MAIL key can be set to YOUR mail not just IE. The keyboard is the usual 102 key set up. The symbols, numbers and letters are easy to read. Key pressure is adjustible. The keys seem spaced well at least for my hands and most importantly is at a fairly flat angle. I would have preferred a gel type wrist rest and actually did replace the original hard plastic one. The Microsoft Internet Keyboard is compatible with: Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 SP6 or later, Microsoft Windows 98/ME, Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0 SP6 or later, Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Microsoft Windows XP Professional. I'm disappointed that this has been discontinued, because I doubt it's replacement can be designed better or be more comfortable or easy to use. And I'm sure it will be more expensive. I've used this keyboard for over a year and am still as happy with it as when it was new.

Trust me, for such a low price, a keyboard shouldn't be this nice. I love it. I ordered it last week and it's great to use. It took a little getting used to since I was using my older keyboard for at least two years, but when this one came it took a few minutes until I was able to find the right groove with it. I like this keyboard a lot. The commands work when you install the software, and its very easy to install.
