Sure-footed laser mouse.......2007-12-26
I bought this great laser mouse on the recommendation of my brother, who's been using it for over 6 months. It tracks much better on many surfaces that had confused my previous optical mouse. The small size is perfect for carrying with a laptop, although it has room for two AA batteries, yielding extremely long battery life. The wireless receiver conveniently slides into the bottom of the mouse for traveling. The scroll wheel has clicks, which I like. Altogether, a very good mouse. Thanks, bro.

After using this mouse on my business laptop I decided to get another one for my home laptop, even though the MS cordless mouse I have is still working. I use the Logitech V450 mouse 8-10 hours a day.
What's so great about this mouse?
1) Ergronomics: this "little" mouse, unlike many others, is comfortable to use for long periods of time. The slope of the left/right mouse buttons is such that my hand feels comfortable even though the back part of my "large" hand is off of the mouse. Key action is light but still firm enough you don't accidentally click things. Good job, Logitech.
2) On/off switch: unlike the MS cordless mouse the Logitech V450 allows you to turn off the mouse using a push button, conveniently located on the bottom of the mouse. A green LED by the switch shows when the mouse is on/off. So, it is NOT necessary to remove the receiver from the USB connector - like on the MS cordless mouse.
3) Invisible laser: provides very precise and fast tracking on all normal work surfaces. No problem doing detailed graphics work this little mouse.
4) Scroll wheel with detent: provides smooth, fast and effortless page scrolling though even large documents.
5) More power: the latest version of this mouse now comes with AA batteries, in the same small "form factor" as the orginal one I purchased that used AAA batteries.
In summary, I've done battle with a lot of different computer rodents over the years. However, for me, I find this little rodent is truly a pleasure to work with for all my home, business and travel computing.

My husband is a graphic designer and as you can imagine, is on the computer for hours every day. Not being big on new technology, he uses the same old mac mouse that comes with the system every time he upgrades.
He's starting to get carpal tunnel in his wrist, so I got him a Logitech MX Laser mouse. He hated it. Thought it felt like holding an iron. Too big and heavy. So, waited a while, did more research and got him the V450. He loves it! It's small, but not too small and light-weight. He uses it with his desktop computer every day. When he wants to use it with his laptop he just unplugs the usb receiver, stores it in the mouse (convenient!) and goes. We highly recommend this mouse.

I actually would give this mouse a 4 or 5-star but who reads the good reviews? People want to know what can go wrong, right? So this is what can go wrong:
The USB transmitters do not like to be paired with another V450 mouse without using the Logitech Connection Utility downloaded with the drivers. If you use the mouse, install the drivers. I bought 3 of these mice used. A new mouse probably will not have the problem, but they're only new "before" you open the package, right?
Take the USB transmitter out, insert the batteries (you have to push on a secret little button on the bottom of the mouse inside the stick slot to open the battery compartment) and turn on the mouse. The LED on the bottom should light up green and stay on. The LED on the top of the mouse turn on green for "good" battery, red for "low" battery, and blinking-red for "call CSI". If it turns green it will fade to "off" in a few seconds, so enjoy it while it lasts. THis is normal.
After plugging the transmitter into your computer's USB slot it should connect ("boo-beep" sound on a PC.). Hover on the Logitech Icon on the right task bar to check the mouse's battery. If there is no "battery is good" popup then the mouse is NOT connected. If you run the Logitech Setpoint driver utility there should be a tab called "My Mouse" when run. If not, then the mouse is not connected. "Half-connected" the mouse will give a "good battery indication" (see above) but if the cursor does not move you have to use the Connection Utility that came with the drivers to reset the mouse.
Oh, the pain I went through trying to get 3 used V450's working! But once connected...I love them. Except he dead one. CSI Logitech, come get this one.

I like the ergnomics of this keyboard and the the quiet typng, but as you can prbably see, there is a serious problem with skipped letters. I can hardly write a single sentence without an issue. I think it's gotten to the point where I need to retur the item and maybe try a different brand.
Keyboard -- nice, Mouse -- yuck!.......2007-12-27
I've had this keyboard/mouse pair for some time now, and I've always thought I was just killing the batteries, or I just couldn't click to save my life. Turns out I'm not the only one that can't make the mouse click half the time! The keyboard is nice enough, but the mouse stinks. Left-clicks (the normal click) are lost quite often, as if the hardware just isn't registering the mouse. I'd say I have a defective unit, but google it a little and you'll see I'm not the only one. Many people have problems getting this mouse to register left-mouse clicks. And a mouse that doesn't click is as useful as ... um... might be the most useless thing I can think of.
Don't waste your time with the unit, buy something else.
Grrr... just had to click on "Edit" 7 times to get mouse to register my attempt to edit my own post!
I hate it........2007-12-24
This item sucks. The mouse especially. It will randomly quit responding to mouse clicks. I can move the mouse, and hover over an item, I can click it. But nothing happens. But, leaving the pointer in place, I can click on the touch pad on my laptop and it will work. The keyboard (just like now while I'm writing this review) will randomly "drop letters" so even though I hit the key, the letter won't show up on the screen as I'm typing. So, I'll have to back up, retype what I'm typing and then go forward. Sometimes, even that doesn't work. Sometimes, I'll keep hitting the key and it just doesn't make any difference. Then, I'll have to hit the sync button on the receiver and hit the little connect button on the bottom of my keyboard, and it'll start working again. I've read online where I'm not the only person having this problem. But, there seems to be no solution to it.
So, would I recommend this product? No, I have to go buy a new keyboard and mouse because this is just getting so frustrating.

My wrist was aching a half hour after I started using this. Also, it sits up so high that if your mousepad goes under your desk at all, you will need more clearance. A huge disappointment.

I bought this mouse because I'd been diagnosed with mild carpel tunnel syndrome. The mouse makes a world of difference, and my pain has gone away. Mouse is a quite large, and "thumb" buttons are difficult to use if you have smallish hands. I think it's designed for a man with larger hands than I have. However, even so, I'm really very happy with this product.

I had a Microsoft wireless laser mouse for three or four years, until the scroll wheel wore out. It worked reasonably well, though the software or reception was at times buggy. Still, I wanted something better so I tried a couple of mice from Logitech: the MX Revolution and the MX620. They were beautiful and felt great, but one was DOA and the other did not work well with the software for the Mac PowerBook that I'm using it with. So I finally bought this laser mouse 6000 from Microsoft. It does what I want it to do.
Positives:
- It feels good
- The software works well and, unlike the Logitech; it does not force me to use the right button as a dedicated right-click button (I use it for "double-click")
- I prefer AA or AAA over rechargeable batteries, so this works well for me
Negatives:
- It is slightly too high so I keep bumping into the side buttons
- The side buttons should have been located slight lower to on the mouth the work well for me
- I like the scroll button on the Logitech better, but this one is still good and responsive
- The stationary UBS receiver unit is bigger than need be, it seems to me--yet another long wire to contend with. Why not an unobtrusive UBS receiver stick?
Great mouse but..............2007-11-21
This is a great mouse but two problems that have with it. One is that it is very heavy once the batteries are in it. After a while it feels like you're trying to move a brick. The other is that the side buttons are located to high and aren't positioned low enough for a comfortable clicking back and forward with your thumb. The price is way to high for a mouse.

My Logitech MX700 mouse is five-year old and is getting aging and aging. I decided to get a good one to replace it.
Several years ago, I had tried Microsoft wireless mice. not completely satisfactory. This Christmas, I tried its Laser 6000 moon-nite, same feeling. I have decided to stick with logitech.
the MX700 could point to where you want quick and accurate (gamer preference). But this Laser 6000 responses slow and inaccurate. I didn't like it after several days, then I switched it to PC of my daughter & wife. They don't like it either. Same complaint there: slow & inaccurate. When you use it to point to click, you fell the cursor shaking. If you are a gamer, forget this mouse. too bad for you. If you are not a gamer (like my daughter), you must learn how to use it, deal with its slow response & inaccurate point. a simple Microsoft mouse performs much better than this one, IMO.
Microsoft really doesn't know how to make mouse. So many years, so much money spent, it still makes so crappy mouse.
WARNING...FAULTY DESIGN!!!!.......2007-12-18
This mouse rarely responds to clicking function. This is an epidemic among most, if not all, 6000 owner/users. Google " Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 "does not respond" " and you will see that this issue is very common. I've tried all the MS suggested solutions and have tried it on both mac and pc with the same results. Also, the wireless range is very weak. I have to keep the transceiver under 6 inches from my mouse/keyboard. Save your self the headache; DO NOT BUY!!!
Good mouse for everyone except a gamer.......2007-11-10
First off this mouse does not suck batteries like everyone says it does. I used to leave the batteries in my mouse all the time, until I figured out from multiple extended trips away from home that the batteries go dead even if you leave the mouse alone by itself. Trains are routed behind my house regularly, so the vibrations from the train might be waking my mouse up and eventually causing the batteries to go dead. Since I figured out my battery problem I have always taken my 2AA batteries out if I'm not going to use the mouse for over an hour, and I find the battery life to be great considering this is a wireless mouse on 2AA batteries. I'd say I have to replace the batteries about every two weeks of real use of about maybe 4-6 hours per day. I find the battery lifetime to be perfectly acceptable, however since I use the non-recharchable batteries I am currently looking for a wired or perhaps a lithium ion powered wireless mouse to replace this one.
For normal desktop use I like that the scroll wheel does not click; for gaming where the scroll wheel is used for switching weapons I find myself constantly accidentally switching weapons, or worse when I try to change weapons I completly pass up the weapon I want. There is no options in the windows vista mouse controls to lower the mouse scroll wheel sensitivity to help me slow down the scroll wheel,so I can actually change weapons without passing up the weapon I want.
When I moved on to another computer that had windows vista I didn't have to install the software that came with the mouse, however I no longer have the one click zoom box which I really didn't like to begin with. I was hoping that the button I use for zoom in normal desktop use could be used as a 5th button to use while gaming, however both buttons that are used by the thumb register as mouse4 =/
I never knew the scroll wheel could also be pushed down to be used as a button till I found a game that used that middle button. That middle button is extremley hard to push down, and in the process the smooth scroll wheel will scroll a few times since it is so sensitive. Also the scroll wheel button is practically impossible to hold down for any application that might need that particular button held down, however I've only had one game that wanted me to hold that button down so its not much of a problem.
Did this thing even come with its own software to install? I don't remember since I bought it so long ago. If I could find the software perhaps on the web then it might have options to lower the sensitivity on the scroll wheel, however that still won't change the fact that this is not a good gaming mouse. I am currently am looking into finding a gaming mouse, and although this isn't a mouse for a gamer it is a good mouse for anyone that will use it for normal windows applications. This mouse has served me for so long I can't even remember when I bought it, but when I did buy it I was glad to have it after using the old roller ball type mice for so long.

Nice mouse, works great, was just hoping for a smaller one that I already have for notebooks, oddly enough with the same exact model number. This is a full size mouse, so if you're looking for a portable one, this isn't it.
Useless but Ergonomic.......2007-10-30
As stated previously, this mouse has excellent ergonomics. It's small and fits in your hand. I love wireless mice & keyboards! I used this mouse for three months. I used it a great deal (online college instructor).
Major Problem (mouse without reliable button function is useless)
The mouse buttons do not always register even after multiple clicks.
Also have the MS Wireless Keyboard 1045 (works perfectly) purchased at the same time.
One star because of the ergonomics only, non-functioning after 3 months - should be recalled.

I've had one of these mice for a year or 2 now. I love it. The batter indicator is very useful and lasts quite a while while charged. I do always forget to charge it back up though. My only other issue is it is rather heavy so it takes a little getting used to when you first start using it.

pros:
-awesome ergonomics (fat and high - perfectly cupped in your palm, nice thumbrest), feels perfect, good response all around, nice to have all those buttons.
cons (and this is extreme nitpicking):
-wish battery were user replaceable (it kind of is; see below). wish it were a touch lighter. Wish they wouldnt discontinue this near-perfect model (I think they already did).
battery died? If less than 3 years old, logitech will replace it under warranty. If more than three years old, no need to throw it away. go on ebay and buy a KLIC-5001 camera battery (fairly cheap, about 10 bucks). Open up your mx1000 (5 screws on bottom, hidden behind the labels and under the teflon feet, etc). take your favorite soldering iron, just 2 wires to unsolder/resolder. the KLIC fits and works perfectly.
You can find other batteries (other than the KLIC). Try np-60 (1200mah, camera batt); klic-5001 1700MAH, lenmar dlka5 (dlk-a5) 1700MAH; targus tg-k5001 1700MAH; on ebay, STERLINGTEKS'S KLIC-5001 EQUIVALENT CLAIMS TO BE 1900mah.
The higher the "mah" rating, the more capacity it has (that is, can go longer between charges).

Really nice feeling in the hand, superb tracking, buttons very natural. So why only three stars?
Reliability: All three of my MX 1000s have developed (after a year or so of moderate use) the habit of intermittently, but frequently, turning single clicks into double clicks, which can wreak havoc with whatever I am doing. Logitech has provided no tech support for this problem. I am seeking a suitable replacement.
The Best Logitech Mouse Ever.......2007-10-31
The MX1000 is a very well rounded mouse, it has a great ergonomic shape that keeps your hand and wrist comfortable even during the longest computer sessions. The MX1000's laser was a big step up in precision from my
Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000, every cursor move became fluid and precise and I loved it. There is one category in which the mX1000 disappoints, battery life. After several months of use I noticed that the recharge hold went down from four to five days to only three (I'm a very heavy computer user, over five hours a day). Even with regular recharge cycles and the best of care, the batteries, after only two months would only hold a charge or three days. Now I understand that eventually the charge has to die out but come on, three days? Even though I'm such a heavy computer user, the mouse did drop in charge hold two days less than it originally was, even with regular recharge cycles.
Overall: The MX1000 is my favorite mouse and I love it's design, shape, weight, and every thing else about it. But I hate the battery, it would have gotten five stars if the battery life were improved or the battery didn't wear out so quickly. I am now using the Logitech New G5, very similar to the MX1000 but it's wired.
Long battery live, ergonomic, sweet!.......2007-10-26
I love this mouse. its a perfect balance between weight and size for gamers. Ive been using this mouse everyday (8 hours aprox) for more than two years and battery live still last for 13-15 days (what i do is wait till the battery is completely dead to recharge it at full charge).
i have a lot of problems when using it with the wireless logitech keyboard (i bought the combo), im not able to use the mouse and the keyboard simultaneously, if you try to type while moving the mouse you wont see any letter.
My five stars are based only on the mouse, not in the mouse keyboard combo.

As ususal, being a Microsoft product the Desktop 6000 is good. Also as usual I find that I am paying a premium for the Microsoft brand. One of my fellow office workers bought a similar product by another company and got essentially the same features for about 15% less.
Time will tell if the Microsoft product will outlast the off-brand...
Nice keyboard but awful software.......2007-11-10
I used this keyboard/mouse combo for 10 days before I returned it. I really liked the keyboard because they position and feel of the keys was very natural to me. Typing was very easy. The only thing I found physically wrong with the keyboard was the dedicated volume keys that required some hard pressing to work. The other keys worked with little effort.
What I really disliked about this keyboard was the software and basic hard-wired programming. When I buy specialty keyboards often I don't install the software supplied with the keyboard because I just want a basic typing experience -- I don't need the fancy keys. However, this time I installed the software according to instructions, plugged in receiver, keyboard and mouse and began using it. Everything was going fine until day 3 when I started doing some things with function keys that I hadn't the need for during the first 2 days. I was using Windows Explorer and I pressed F2 to edit the name of a file but nothing happened. I thought something was wrong with the key but it wasn't. If I was in Microsoft Word, F2 would attempt to open a file. When I used Firefox or IE and pressed F6 to access the address bar to type in a new site to visit, the window would instantly close. What I discovered is that the software that came with the keyboard completely reprogrammed all the function keys to perform a non-standard function.
I accessed the software settings to see if I could change the function keys back to the same functions that they keys have had since at least Windows 95, but guess what? No such luck. The software listed all kinds of functions that I could assign to each function key, but nowhere in the list were the basic functions that had always been used for those function keys (F2, F5, F6, etc). This stunned me. There is no reason to remove the ability to have the basic function keys perform their expected functions.
What was worse than that, when I loaded the software onto my laptop so that I could use this keyboard setup with the laptop at a desk, the software co-opted the basic functions of the laptop's built-in keyboard so that I couldn't use the Fn key combination. If I attempted to use Fn+DN ARRW, instead of the laptop screen dimming it would start Windows Messenger. There was no option to set this to happen nor to remove it. If I attempted to use the Fn+F8 combo to flip the display between the CRT, laptop or null, the display would go nuts and start scrolling everything around. Of course, it wouldn't toggle the display at all.
I became so thoroughly annoyed with the software and Microsoft's unreasonable demands that I just removed the software a few days later and anticipated just using the keyboard's standard keys. Guess what? If you remove the software, ALL the function keys are disabled. NONE works in the standard way. This is absolutely crazy and beyond annoying. I returned the keyboard and will be getting another Logitech keyboard, which is where I should have gone in the first place.
Avoid this keyboard because: (1) software and (2) totalitarianism.
Also, I paid way too much for this keyboard because I found it available at different places online with 1/3 of what I paid.
Worst Keyboard & Mouse Set Ever.......2007-09-03
Microsoft's competition has succeeded in infiltrating their hardware products division. I say this without fear of contradiction because it is the only plausible explanation for how Microsoft allowed a single Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 to have escaped immediate and summary incineration. A troupe of rabid baboons would not have let a single unit of this dross past the first QA check.
Why spew invective?
Because I purchased two of these jaw-droppingly subpar pieces of junk at the same time (one to use at the office, one to use at home) only to discover the hard way that seeing "Microsoft" on the box means bupkis.
The second keyboard I bought.......2007-08-23
This is the second keyboard i bought. It's exactly the same one I bought for my other computer. Both of them are used on iMac computers. While I had absolutely no problems with my first keyboard, I did have some problems with the second one. First of all, when I installed the software, I could not get the CD-ROM out of iMac and the computer become unresponsive completely with the CD-ROm inside. And when I finally got it out thanks to apple service representative's help then i noticed the keyboard skips some letters when typing fast.

I've owned this for a year and am looking for a new keyboard. I have continual connection problems with mouse and keyboard and continually have to reset. Low battery warnings appear every day. This keyboard was not cheap and I thought Microsoft could do better, but I can't afford to waste my time trying to type a sentence.

Love it...except the spacebar.......2007-12-10
This is the best keyboard I've ever had, but I did experience the same problem as others have noted with the spacebar. However, one call to Microsoft and they immediately sent me a replacement! I did not realize there is a 3 year warranty on these! They asked no other questions and I did not even have to return the old one. I am very happy with the replacement and with Microsoft!

Bad design.......2007-09-23
I had this keyboard for about 8 months and then the space bar started to become less responsive. The only way it would work was to hit it right in the middle of the key. Shortly later the metal clip became lose and come off. I tried to reinstall it however it is really difficult and when reinstalled does not work close to the same. It is basicly unuseable now. this keyboard is WAY over priced for such a lousy quality. Don't buy it.
Nice Design But Very Poor Reliability.......2007-07-03
When it works, you'll love this keyboard. It just doesn't work very often. sometimes the response from the keyboard is so bad, only every 4th or 5th keystroke will register. The mouse will just stop working or only pick up one click out of 10. It's a constant cycle of changing the channel to refresh the connection or rebooting the PC to re-load the software. I've tried moving the receiver all over the place but with no effect. In the exact same office setup and configuration I tried a Creative Labs and a Logitech wireless keyboard / mouse and had NO problems. The bottom line is that Microsoft has put out yet another unreliable product. The time it takes to make the product work makes this a complete waste of money.

Interesting how the Microsoft Laser 6000 Keyboard and Mouse scores such mediocre reviews here on Amazon but earns nothing but raves at Tiger Direct. Sorry Amazon buyers, you must have your eyes closed. This is an extraordinarily well designed product that not only assists the wrists and eliminates wires ... my whole PC runs better, faster and smoother. No idea why. But I'm not going to argue. My only complaint is the lack of contrast between the color of the keys and the surrounding keyboard. Not a big deal. Take a chance and buy this. Once your hands and eyes adjust to the curved keyboard, you'll be in input heaven.

I have used my wireless laser mouse 6000 for about a year and have had ZERO problems with Windows XP ...... it works out to about 3 feet from my Dell laptop easily ..... not sure how it works with VISTA ..... make sure you have a good battery
Great mouse, minor niggles.......2007-11-23
I added this as an update from my wireless notebook optical 3000 mouse. The only real problem I have is the scrolling which I loved that had the clicks on the old 3000 model but I guess because of the 4 way scrolling they could not have the clicking.
The other users who complain about the scrolling action need to change their settings. This mouse scrolls fine once you adjust the acceleration and speed settings for scrolling. The main reason I bought this mouse was for the horizontal scrolling which works excellent. As someone who spends tons of time on the computer I am really pleased with this mouse. It is as accurate as the 3000 if not more so, especially on my down cover which the 3000 had problems with. I would have to guess that the people who complained about the mouse not being as accurate either had a defective mouse or had it too far away from their laptop or they were using it on the desktop.
