This is a very nice and well built mouse. As soon as you use it, you can tell that it's very well made. The new surface used on this model is very nice, non slip and does not attract fingerprints, unlike the earlier 6 button version of the G5
The option of changing the weight of the mouse seems gimmicky at first, but as soon as you start to experiment with the weights, you'll see that it's actually quite usefull.
The mouse tracks very well and the on-the-fly DPI changing works flawlessly. Also it glides very nicely which is even more emphasized when using a good mouse pad.
The reason I gave this mouse 4 instead of 5 stars is simply that the shape of the mouse will not suite every gamer. It is an awesome device for anyone using a palm or finger grip on their mouse, but someone (like me) that prefers the claw grip, mainly used in FPS games will find it a bit uncomfortable. You can get used to it though.
Also, the scroll wheel is a bit annoying. It would be better if it was a little wider and didn't have this utterly useless side scrolling function, which makes it a bit awkward to depress it.
All in all this is a great gaming mouse that is worth the money it costs. Every angle of it screams quality.
Just try and take it for a "test drive" before you buy it so you can make sure it's comfortable to you.

I haven't yet investigated all the customizable features of this mouse but it does what I bought it for (work tasks, not gaming). It's very comfortable and the click wheel works very well. One nice touch is that you can press the click wheel on its sides to scroll left and right within applications and websites. I hadn't expected the USB cable to be quite as long as it is. I keep it bundled in the middle so it doesn't flop all over my desk.

If, like me, you are sensitive to textures, find this one on display at a store and give it a try before you buy it. I find the Dry-Grip surface on the sides of the mouse to be excruciating to touch. It's the tactile equivalent of fingernails on a blackboard for me. It's a shame, because otherwise I'm pretty sure this would be the perfect mouse for me.

Summary:
This remote control has a poorly designed button layout with too many very small buttons used for frequently used functions. Plan on looking down at your remote ALOT when you want to do simple tasks like 'pause', 'forward', 'go back', etc. It works fine, but the design and button layout is lacking.

I bought this remote to replace the remote control I received with my HP Media Center, wich didn't have backlighting and the buttons/keys were not arranged or sized for easy use. I bought this Microsoft remote contol because it looks similar to the remote control for my Tivo (which is great). The MS remote is a bit better than the HP remote, but it still has too many buttons arranged poorly and with many keys the same size or where the button size isn't related to its importance or frequency of use. For example, the Mute button is probably one of the largest keys on the remote (I rarely Mute - at least intentionally), but 'stop', 'pause', 'fwd', 'back' are all the same very small size and arranged in a circle. You can't tell by touch or feel what does what. The 'go back' button is very close to rewind button -- so I accidently exit my movie instead of just 'rewinding'. The remote does have backlighting, so at least see you what tiny key you need in a dark room. Overall, its ok, but far from great.

Not a bad mouse, but..........2007-11-26
I bought the Logitech V500 about a year ago. Works fine, is convenient for travel as it collapses and stores away in its little nylon pouch. The down side, about three months after my initial purchase the inner lining (which is made of plastic) of the aluminum battery bay door started to crumble and flake off into little pieces. By another three months the lining was almost gone. Currently I use tape to hold the door in place as part of the plastic inner linig also formed the catch for the door. That's the only negative experience I have had with the V500.
I've had Logitech mice before, this is the first one that disapointed me.

This mouse works well and does it's job. I did not like the roll-wheel (it is actually not a wheel but touch-sensitive area). All together it provides a good alternative for a mouse on the road.

I've been using this mouse for more than one year and I just love it. It takes time to get use to with the touch scroll panel but once you do, it's great. Batteries last forever. If this is the only mouse you gonna be using all the time, I would recommend get something bigger.

This is one of those few devices that I've bought and never, ever had a problem with. Battery life is fantastic (2-3 months or more with a set of NiMh rechargables), tracking is the best I've ever had in a mouse, and the wireless function has worked flawlessly for the 2 years I've had it. I've never installed the drivers and it works fine with XP Pro out of the box.
It's a little small and not as ergonomic as full-size mice, but is ideal for travel and the design with the receiver in the base is great.
Highly recommended.

But this mouse is AMAZING. if your willing to now spend around $50 for a mouse this is definitely a good choice. I have never been able to get far away enough where I could still see my laptop and have the mouse not reach.
Its really comfortable under my hand. Its very light without batteries inside but with them inside its the perfect weight.
It works an nearly any surface. I use it on my legs, my stomach, on my leather couch, a wooden table. it works everywhere.
Battery life is AMAZING. My first pair of batteries lasted a little over a year. and i used it a lot.
The only tiny complaint i have is that you have to put the usb back into the mouse to turn it fully off. but i think the mouse does have a sleep mode because it takes half a second to respond after I havent been using it for a while. But with the incredible battery life it doesn't matter. my brother got the same model and he ever put his back cause it had it plugged into the back of his pc and it also lasted almost a year.

The cons are: a little bit heavy, partly due to the 2 AA bettery used; the middle button has limited functions
Overall, this one should be recommended. But if you get the bluetooth, there is another Logitech BT mouse with nearly same size, but without receiver.

The G7 mouse is by far the best one I have ever used. Extremely fast and easy to use. No set up required, just put the disc in and in a minute you are ready to go. I had bought a Microsoft cordless mouse before this one and I had to take it back because it was horrible. Logitech did a great job on this mouse, I would highly recommend it.

I've had this mouse for nearly a year now. Overall it's a good mouse for gaming but it has some shortcomings. A few are major. If you play shooters, DON'T buy this mouse. Get the USB version instead. I play a lot of Team Fortress 2 and the ability to choose different dpi levels helps between the different classes. However, at higher dpi the mouse response is somewhat shaky. I've been in situations where I have the mouse at either 2000 or 1600 dpi and sometimes it won't register my click or sometimes it will fire a click when I'm not even pressing the button.
I believe the mouse uses so much resource for the optical sensor that the clicks fall victim to a lack of bandwidth through the wireless signal. I'm not absolutely sure yet, but I believe other wireless signals have interrupted my mouse. Things like cordless home phones and other radio signal devices. If you play in tournaments where there are a lot of systems around, I would definitely go with a corded mouse. I wish I had gone with the Logitech G5 but cordless seemed more flexible. I recommend the G5.

I bought this Laser mouse because I wanted to try and go the wireless mouse rout, what a big mistake, the mouse either (in a program) moves real fast or it moves real slow and the control buttons on the mouse are limited as to mouse speed, and the rechargeable batteries don't retain there charge very long about a day and a half and the recharge bay only works when the computer is on. I am going to wait a long time before I revisit the idea of a cordless mouse. Do your self a favor and stay with a corded mouse.

I absolutely love my G7 cordless(I've owned it for over 2years)! I was reading the other, less generous, reviews and they're mostly complaining about, "omg, I have to change the battery every other day, with heavy use!!!" But I don't mind replacing the battery one bit, especially because it's got that "outta ammo, gotta re-load" kinda feel on the quick release. As far as general performance goes, I've never had a problem, it's Logitech. In my experience, Logitech = Quality.

I've tried countless mice from Logitech, Razor, Microsoft, and others, but in the end, very few come close to matching the best Logitech has to offer. The G5 Laser Mouse is not the latest in Logitechs' lineup, but I do believe it is one of the best. A lot of upper end gaming mice have similar specs, and as such, choosing the right mouse should ultimately be decided by feel. For me, the G5 provides the most comfortable feel--perhaps because I've used similar Logitech mice for years. This mouse is responsive, with a 2000 dpi sensor--not the highest around, but more than enough--it provides the precision desired by most gamers. It was the first mouse to really provide a user customized weight cartridge, which allows the user to find the perfect heft to the mouse.
This mouse may not fit everyone, but there's a good chance that it's right for you.

product was a good mouse, been using it for a year now and it still works perfect as it did when i first got it. i am a hard core gamer and it works amazingly with new games like Crysis and and old games like freelancer. it is nice to be able to custom your bpi rate for fps it is nice to switch to a higher rate in the snipper modes to be able to move faster and slow down right before you take a shoot.
over all it is a good mouse and still works which is nice for someone that uses a mouse 5 to 6 hours a day for a year. all the buttons still work the paint is wearing off but that is expected for the amount of use i put in to it. it is also nice to have the cord because it saves me a lot of money for the batterys.
this also works really well in ubuntu linux which is always great for computer geeks.

I bought this mouse today from BB. I was unaware of the "New" G5 mouse and liked the design of this one. The blue design from the other G5 didnt appeal to me. Plus this was an open item so BB gave me a discount from the sale price (total I paid was $48 with tax). If I'm not shopping on Amazon, I'm shopping at BB. To start I was preparing my gaming system with minor upgrades before the new Penryn processors come out. I changed my Dynex mouse and keyboard combo. This completed my minor upgrades as I bought the Logitech G15 (older one) a few days ago when BB had a clearance sale on them to make room for the new G15 keyboards. I've always trusted Logitech products and have always viewed them as long lasting, sturdy, and are easy to install and troubleshoot. I still have a webcam that is 7 years old and has never given me issues. The updates are gone but I still use it to put some things on Ebay.
Out of the box, the mouse is bigger than my previous mouse and the biggest I've seen. I have big hands so this fit me great. The feeling of this mouse also adds to some comfort. It's good to have a comfortable mouse when you're on your computer either playing games or other things. The curvature by your thumb feels nice. The left and right mouse buttons blend into the design on top nicely as well. The plus and minus buttons right below the wheel adjust the dpi settings up to a maximum of 2000 which help the responsiveness of your mouse. It's a plus if you play first person shooters. Chaning mice, there seems to be a difference, (slightly) as it feels more responsive than my Dynex mouse I had previously.
The mouse feels very comfortable. It's smooth on top and slightly rough on the sides (but still feels smooth as well). It also glides very nicely on my wooden desk. I was tired of mouse pads as I constantly have to take it off and place it back on when it falls off the pad. I let it roam free and it works perfectly. I've read in some forums that the DPI and responsiveness do depend on the surface the mouse is on.
My G5 has only one side button by my thumb. I know the newer G5's have 2 buttons. If your constantly on the internet then having the 2 buttons is a plus. I sometimes have a habbit of hitting one button and thrown to a previous webpage. That gets annoying so I wasn't too annoyed when I noticed that this particular mouse only has one side button. The good thing on the G5 is that the side buttons are slightly higher where your thumb rests so this is good for people who inavertantly press one of these buttons by accident. In other words, you're cured!
I've read many reviews that say the updates from Logitech, firmware, or the program that manages your mouse is horrible. I've had no problems with either installation disc, both from my G5 mouse and G15 keyboard. The mouse worked immediately when I started my computer. I even had it plugged into one of the USB ports on my keyboard and all is well. Logitech's website for updates is a breeze to use. If you don't like to periodically go to the website to check for updates, the mouse manager has a tab that you can click on to check for updates. Its almost like the LCD manager from my keyboard.
All in all, the mouse is great both for games, internet surfing, and for work. It's comfortable, easy to set up, and a pleasure to look at. I would recommend it to anyone who is shopping for a high grade mouse either for gaming or other purposes.

Good mouse...nice feel. The weighting is a pretty cool concept...I like mine very heavy, so I put all the 4.5 gram weights in it. Good for games and photoshop too.
