G7.......2007-12-25
The G7 mouse is by far the best one I have ever used. Extremely fast and easy to use. No set up required, just put the disc in and in a minute you are ready to go. I had bought a Microsoft cordless mouse before this one and I had to take it back because it was horrible. Logitech did a great job on this mouse, I would highly recommend it.
If its life is more than one year, it can get a 4.5.......2007-11-13
but it is dead after one year of usage. When it is alive, it performed well and no complain for the speed and sensitivity.
It's ok, wireless a bad idea.......2007-11-12
I've had this mouse for nearly a year now. Overall it's a good mouse for gaming but it has some shortcomings. A few are major. If you play shooters, DON'T buy this mouse. Get the USB version instead. I play a lot of Team Fortress 2 and the ability to choose different dpi levels helps between the different classes. However, at higher dpi the mouse response is somewhat shaky. I've been in situations where I have the mouse at either 2000 or 1600 dpi and sometimes it won't register my click or sometimes it will fire a click when I'm not even pressing the button.
I believe the mouse uses so much resource for the optical sensor that the clicks fall victim to a lack of bandwidth through the wireless signal. I'm not absolutely sure yet, but I believe other wireless signals have interrupted my mouse. Things like cordless home phones and other radio signal devices. If you play in tournaments where there are a lot of systems around, I would definitely go with a corded mouse. I wish I had gone with the Logitech G5 but cordless seemed more flexible. I recommend the G5.
wast of money.......2007-11-11
I bought this Laser mouse because I wanted to try and go the wireless mouse rout, what a big mistake, the mouse either (in a program) moves real fast or it moves real slow and the control buttons on the mouse are limited as to mouse speed, and the rechargeable batteries don't retain there charge very long about a day and a half and the recharge bay only works when the computer is on. I am going to wait a long time before I revisit the idea of a cordless mouse. Do your self a favor and stay with a corded mouse.
hahaha.......2007-11-10
I absolutely love my G7 cordless(I've owned it for over 2years)! I was reading the other, less generous, reviews and they're mostly complaining about, "omg, I have to change the battery every other day, with heavy use!!!" But I don't mind replacing the battery one bit, especially because it's got that "outta ammo, gotta re-load" kinda feel on the quick release. As far as general performance goes, I've never had a problem, it's Logitech. In my experience, Logitech = Quality.

Generally good, but some disappointments.......2007-10-25
This is my first review on Amazon, so I hope you'll cut me some slack... :-) Anyway, I'm a casual gameplayer (I like World of Warcraft), so I wanted a mouse that would be reliable, responsive, comfortable, and affordable. Basically everything anyone would want in a mouse, but even more so for gaming.
By the way, if you search Amazon for "logitech g7" you'll get multiple listings for this exact same item so, not knowing what else to do, I'm going to post this review on every listing. Wouldn't you do the same? I dunno...
So, first of all, I read lots of reviews to try and decide what would give me the best equipment for the money. This is a pretty expensive mouse, but I made it more affordable by buying a refurbished item online. That might have been a mistake, or it might not -- I'll never know. Anyway, keep that in mind here. Maybe "factory new" units will be less likely to display the problems I noted below.
So, here's the long and the short of it:
Pros:
- Nice heft and ergonomics.
- Laser seems to work well on all surfaces (except glass desktops -- forget it).
- Good software for customizing and adapting to particular games (i.e. you can customize the effect of clicking the thumb button, scrolling the wheel, tilting the wheel, etc.)
- Battery level is indicated via LED's on the mouse itself. Also, when low charge is critical, the software will pop up a window to tell you so. (However this window will not always intrude into the game you're playing, so beware.)
- Double lithium-ion batteries ensure that you're never up the creek without a mouse. While you're using one battery, you're recharging the other.
Cons:
- Scroll wheel has an annoying ratcheting sound & feel when spun.
- Left/right tilt function of scroll wheel failed before very long. Now when I push the wheel to the right, it just sticks there, instead of snapping back to center.
Neither here nor there:
The mouse provides a pair of buttons, "+" and "-", right behind the scroll wheel, for increasing or decreasing the sensitivity. For me, once I've got the sensitivity I want (which I can do through the Windows Control Panel), I really don't ever need to change it, so those two buttons are a waste for me. Although I guess I can reprogram them to do something more interesting. Ah well; to each his/her own.
And a note about the batteries:
The double battery system works fine for me, and it will work fine for you, as long as you realize that recharging a battery via a USB port (which is your only option) is a very long process. Basically, you'll want to keep the charger attached to your PC all the time, so that when your active battery runs out, you can swap 'em. By the way, of the two batteries I received in my refurb, one seems to take a lot longer to fully charge. In fact, by the time I've discharged the one battery through use, the weaker battery will only have just reached full charge in the charger. Not a real problem, but I figured you should be aware.
Bottom line: Good mouse if you're not a major gamer and can get a good discount price for it.
Best cordless gaming mouse to date.......2007-08-16
I have the newer carbon fiber style G7 but the mouse is identical minus the pattern.
The feet on this thing are incredible. Glides great on most surfaces. stick a pad under it and you can't even tell you have a mouse in your hand when you move it. (recommend skipping the typical mouse pads or the gamming pads. hit hobby lobby up and get a fabric cutting mat, cheaper and can get different sizes all jsut as smooth as anything you can buy in mouse pads)
The variable speed is great. I mostly use the variable speed for Battlefield games (FPS game). Run around with one setting then when you get in a tank turn it up a notch. Can spin the turret just as fast as you can could spin your body. Zoom in and turn it up another notch. Can still spin just as fast as you could before.
The other use of the variable speed is to turn it down. Run around with it at high speed and turn it down when you go for the kill shot to improve aim.
Battery Life: It doesn't matter. When it's dead/dying you pop the other battery out of the charge and swap them. Takes a whole 2 seconds. Once you see the notice blinking you can do it in the middle of a fire fight and not miss a step.
Productivity wise, it's still a great mouse. Has a scroll wheel that acts as the third mouse button and can also tilt it to scroll sideways. Has the good ol back button on the side that i find many people don't use to thier full potential. The only thing it's lacking is a forward button.
If you do some research on the mouse you will find that it has problems with the main mouse buttons. Some of the mice will have problems due to weak springs. The problem that occurs is either they quit clicking when you hit the button or in my case they start to double or tripple click when you hit it once. This isn't the norm but it is a problem out there. If it happens, talk to logitech and after going through the run around of testing stuff the final result will put you in awe of thier customer support.
Pros: Best darn thing around
Cons: No forward button, possiblity of malfunctioning buttons after a few months of hard use.
Highly recommend.
