Customer Reviews:
Just what I was hoping for.......2007-08-24
I'm impressed with this little thing. The case is well-made and has a very solid feel. The Nano fits perfectly into the skin and into the MiniBlaster. I didn't have difficulties with the fit like others mentioned. Getting the Nano out takes some pushing, but that's the way it should be. You don't want it falling out on it's own and hitting the pavement. All the Nano controls are accessible. The front, circular control (volume/scroll) works fine through a silicon skin and is very protected.
The reason we buy this thing is for sound and size. Size and weight are impressively minimal. You won't beat that anywhere. As for sound, it's not a home entertainment center or a Bose IPod system - it's a tiny little device that offers maximum portability. If you can bring your Bose system along with you, then do it. If you need something small and more portable, then read on.
The sound has a distinct clarity. Mids to highs are crisp and well separated. What you loose is bass. It's attenuated, but not dull or muddy. I wasn't expecting strong bass with a frequency response of 450Hz to 20KHz. It's not built for it and shouldn't be expected.
It's made, as others have said, for you and a couple of friends in an environment without too much ambient noise. If you are looking for a system that you can play at a beech party with a big group of friends, keep looking, because this isn't it. Too many voices chatting away will drown this little thing out.
In a reasonably quiet room or out on the trail, you get enough volume to really enjoy the music. It's loud enough to hear the detail in the sound. It even gets too loud for conversations and has to be turned down. Don't get me wrong, the neighbors won't be calling or stomping on the floor. It has what it needs to fill the niche that it's designed for.
I personally like the sound with the EQ set to "Small Speakers" - seems like a good balance for Classic Rock which I tend to listen to the most.
If you want a small, light and very portable speaker system to free you from headphones and make portable music a social experience between friends again, then you are onto something.
Enjoy!
Great for use while traveling.......2007-08-11
I wanted to be able to listen to podcasts and my own music while commuting and so first purchased (for $80) an FM converter that plugged into the lighter and my iPod and then matched an unused frequency to play what was on the iPod. The sound wasn't great and it changed depending on where I was driving. I spent a lot of time trying to find the right static frequency and match it with the device. In the short time that I tried it out I had to switch frequencies twice.
So, I looked for a speaker. I decided that it wouldn't be a disaster to buy something at this price to try even if it didn't work great. It was what I was looking for! I can use it in the car and also other places where I want to play what is on my ipod so that others can hear. It is not great sound quality, but it is much better than what I was getting with the FM converter and much easier. I can either use batteries or the AC adaptor (I already have a device that converts the cigarette lighter into AC power).
It is a great solution for what I was looking for.
Good Product.......2007-07-26
I recommend this product over similar products that are outrageously expensive. Powerful sound for it's size and easy to use. Great value.
Wow, under 15 bucks including shipping!.......2007-07-04
Don't expect too much bass out of -any- tiny speakers but as a way to turn your nano into a sort of 21st century "transistor radio" equivalent with stereo audio and a better sound quality, this little thing is superb. Talk radio podcasts are delivered very clearly and music can be enjoyed to an extent especially if you choose an appropriate EQ setting on your nano. Volume capability is decent, just don't expect to entertain an audience bigger than about two or three. Battery life is good for the 4x AAA batteries.
JLab Audio.......2007-06-08
The sound is good from the Miniblaster, but getting my Ipod in and out of it is a real chore!! It is very difficult to do. It not only is very hard to place in the miniblaster, but getting it out is even worse. I like the size of it as it doesn't take up a lot of room when I place it on the counter. Just difficult to use. It is also hard to adjust the volume with the "skin" on it.

Great sound quality for such a tiny package.......2007-11-05
I bought the miniblaster portable speaker in December 2006. I was amazed at the quality of the sound for such tiny speakers. Now, almost one year later, the speakers are still going strong. If you are looking for good quality pocket size speakers, these are a good choice.
A Great iPod Speaker........2007-08-08
It is tiny, compact (no wiggley parts to break off) it runs on batteries as well as AC and I am completely delighted with it.JLab Audio MBBG1 Miniblaster Portable Speaker for iPod Nano (Gen 1) - Black
STOP THINKING AND BUY IT.......2007-07-28
Best bang for the buck...i read all the reviews. just buy it. you can't beat $15 shipped. it gets the job done.
Excellent Company.......2007-06-11
My 11 year old daughter saved her $$ and did some on line research and ended up buying these. She loved them for the size which allowed her to take them into bed, on the bus etc. The audio in my opinion was "OK", but she was very happy.
We had bought them along with their noise reducing ear buds which I use while traveling in planes. I can wear them x- country very comfortably
Unfortunately we had technical problems and contacted JBL. I happened to email them on a Sunday afternoon and in about 15 minutes a real person (Josh) responded. A real person.... on a Sunday!!
He resolved the issue- which ultimately required a warranty replacement.
I cannot say enough good things about this company and Josh. I woudl buy their products again without hesitation
What a disappointment........2007-05-26
On my first foray into looking for the perfect mini speaker for my Ipod, I bought the Aiptek Mist for Nano (not realizing it only works with Gen 2 Nano)---boy, was it a cute little thing. Disappointed they don't make that product for Gen 1 Nanos, I searched Amazon for the perfect replacement mini speaker that would work with my Nano Gen 1. The JLab Miniblaster had 4 stars. Folks, speak up, because I cannot be the only one who was shocked by the low quality of this product!!
*When I first plugged it in, you couldn't hear anything because of interference from my TV remote!
*When I finally heard sound it was fuzzy at best and never got much better
*The volume level is only a smidgen better than what I can hear through my earbuds when they are out of my ears!
I read and re-read the direction and am convinced I did everything properly. I even tried it with battery power only, in the house, out of the house. No luck. This is a lousy product and I am giving it one star. This is being shipped back today.

Good sound, a bit uncomfortable.......2007-12-26
I've owned these for about 3 years. They're pretty good buds. The thing that I'm most impressed with is the fact that unlike all of my other buds, both sides of these still work, and they work equally at that! The sound quality is pretty good, considering they're buds. These can handle most, but not all of the higher frequencies. You also get decent enough bass. The winding case definitely comes in handy. It gives me an easy and safe way to store my earbuds and not lose them. My only qualm with these headphones is that they start to hurt your ears after about 45 minutes of usage, which sucks if you're exercising or doing anything of the like. Then again, I could just have weird ears???
Either way, for under $10, this is a great deal for on-the-go earbuds. Get them even if you don't need them...I'm sure they'll come in handy.
Work great - convenient.......2007-12-22
I got these as a spare pair of headphones to carry in my computer bag. They sound great and are easy to store with the included winding case.
Useless. Too small Cord. Can't reach from my PC to Ears........2007-12-19
I don't know about sond quality as I couldn't use it. I bought these so that I can listen to Music or Web Seminar by connecting to Desktop Under my desk and cord cannot reach my ears. Too short a cord. Make sure when you shop the cord length is enough atleat 5 feet or more.
Great Headphones.......2007-12-11
These headphones are a great deal! The bass is incredibly clear, and the winding case is extremely convenient.
Good headphones for the price.......2007-12-11
These headphone are good for their price. Sound comes in clear. I think it is even better than the headphones my ipod came with.

sony mdr-e829v earbuds.......2007-11-16
i really like these. i bought them for the inline volume control which
i find very useful since the songs on my ipod are recorded at various
volumes. when riding my bike i don't have to fish around for the ipod
flywheel, instead i use the inline volume control. i know there are
earpods with better sound, but the inline volume control was very important for my use.
Good sounding but Uncomfortable.......2007-10-10
Due to the design of these earbuds they fit in your ears uncomfortably. The bass is good, thats the only reason for 2 stars. Even treating the earbuds with care (running the cable down the INSIDE of my shirt so as to make sure that the cord doesn't get snagged on anything) ,The left earbud stopped working in less than 1 month. Buyer Beware.
Great headphones for the price.......2007-05-25
These are pretty good. I tried some $100.00 sets which were good of course, but not worth the money when these headphones produce good sound, are very well priced compared to the deluxe models, and have the windup case for quick and easy storage.
These Are The 'Phones For Me.......2007-03-18
I bought my first pair of Sony earbuds about 2 years ago - I still have that pair and just purchased a new pair as a backup. This time my backup pair has the inline volume control, and I couldn't be happier with them. I originally only used my Sony earbuds on a laptop to listen to DVD movies, music and audiobooks and then after getting an 80gig video iPod late in 2006, I decided to plug them in instead of the iPod phones. The difference in both sound quality and comfort were instant.
I have a pair of JBL Reference 220's I rec'd for Christmas that do not hold a candle to my *much* less expensive Sony earbuds. One thing that is necessary to keep in mind is to put them in the case they come with when you're done with them; storing them rather than leaving them attached to an MP3 or iPod will extend the life of your earbuds, no matter what kind they are.
great sound.......2007-03-14
Sounds way better than the original ear phones that come with the IPod, but not as snug on the ear.

Sony's Masterpiece.......2007-08-24
From the beautifully designed storage case to the quality construction of the ear buds to the price, you just can't beat these waterproof ear buds.
Bargain Price Great Performance.......2007-07-08
I have a vocation where, even though I don't want to be a runner, I have to be. Therfore, any distraction from running such as listining to an MP-3 is helpful. Conversely, if the music is coming in and out or the ear buds are bugging me it makes the run even more difficult.
The Sony MDR-E827G ear buds were my third set of buds this year. I purchased them in hopes that they would resist the damage brought on by perspiration (I'm also a beer drinker). What a pleasant surpise. Number one: the cables are thick unlike the hair thin ones that are coming with all the "high-end ear buds," number two: better bass than the ear buds that came with my "Zune." Finally the cables are short so they are not flopping around and driving you crazy by your third mile. The little wind up spool I believe was meant for preserving the cable life but I tossed it. It was annoying and took up space. However, for the money, you cannot beat these buds.
Handy, and I haven't destroyed them yet! :).......2007-03-02
I use these with my laptop, and really like them for their convenience and durability. The wind-up case is a great idea and works really well for protecting the cord.
My only wish is that the cord was a bit longer, but it's probably the perfect length for portable music players.
better than they look.......2007-02-07
I was kind of expecting a different look to the earphones when I recieved them.... they appeared that they would fall out easily... Thankfully not the case. Good purchase for the price... and i do sweat pretty heavy in the gym.... Face it though... the perfect earphones (for working out) will never be found under $100.
Good Earbuds for the Portables.......2006-12-29
I bought these earbuds for my CD player (at the time) because the ones I had before died on the right side. They were a pair of RCA behind the neck headphones I bought at Family Dollar for very cheap. I would buy another pair but now I have an iPod and want to buy mostly earbuds and clip headphones that are more portable. I was planning on buying a pair of Philips earbuds at Target because (I thought) these were dead on the right side and I dislike the iPod earbuds, but when I plugged these into my iPod they worked fine. After a break-in session they sound even better.
Well, they are only ten bucks, so what can you expect? Not a ton, not a surround soundstage and great, powerful sound, but maybe something that has at least average sound, are comfortable, and will last a decent amount of time. And thatt's mostly what I got with these earbuds.
They don't have stellar sound (that for some reason a ton of reviews rave about), but they have decent sound that's good enough for the money. Not a lot of bass, but some pairs at this price have barely any bass. The mids on this pair are emphazised (but not by a lot, props to Sony). And they do have a good, clean sound to them, so even if you are unhappy with the low end of these earbuds you at least have a good upper end.
For other aspects of the earbuds, they are very comfortable and fit much better than the Apple earbuds, but feel better with the pads. I have already lost the pads but still fit fine and are still comfortable for long periods of time. Also, these are some durable headphones so far, and after a half-year of use they still put up nicely.
Overall, not a bad pair of esrbuds for portables. Already got a better pair? Keep these for some useful back-ups. They don't have amazing sound, but are comfortable and last long enough to make them worth the price. 4 stars.
NOTE: This is a waterproof version of the MDRE828LP earbuds. These would be a better deal if you are using them mostly outdoors.
Product Description
Sony MDR-NC11 Noise Canceling Fontopia(R) Earbud Headphones - Don't be so shocked by the price, these are not your typical earbud headphones. Utilizing advanced technology the Fontopia(R) MDR-NC11 headphones has a high performance Noise Canceling feature. Turn the Noise Canceling switch to "on" and experience a near 70% reduction in outside noise! This is great for helping you enjoy your music to the fullest, or in situations where you need some extra peace & quiet. Like at work or while traveling. Frequency Response - 10-22,000Hz Battery - 1 AAA Battery (not included)
Amazon.com Product Description
Small enough to keep with you at all times and ideal for achieving peace and quiet in planes, trains, buses, and cars, Sony's MDRNC11 noise-canceling Fontopia ear-bud headphones reduce perceived outside noise by more than 70 percent (up to 10 dB at 300 Hz) so you can hear musical nuances against a quieter background.
The headphones' noise-canceling circuit senses outside noise using tiny, built-in microphones and sends an equal-but-opposite canceling signal to the headphone drivers, effectively blocking solid-state (continuous) noise from 50 to 1,000 Hz. It's especially effective on noises like air-conditioning systems, freeway rumble, and airplane engines (from a passenger's perspective).
The switchable noise-canceling circuitry runs for approximately 60 hours on a single AAA alkaline battery. When noise canceling is off, the headphones continue to function for standard music listening (and with slightly better sound quality). An inline volume control lets you adjust the sound without having to access your sound source.
Customer Reviews:
not worth it.......2007-08-17
The noise canceling is like non existent. Much better noise cancelling with over ear headphones I have. Bought these to use bicycling with public transportation. I will continue to lug around the over ear headphones to use on public transportation. Don't waste your $ like I did.
Not for I-Pod.......2007-07-30
I bought these headphones at a 50% discount, and after using them for a little bit realized why. The headphones themselves work pretty well even though they are not very compact. Despite this, I still used them with my I-Pod because I liked the sound quality. After 2-3 weeks the headphones had already stopped working entirely. If you want headphones that will last for any period of time, skip these.
Great Headphones!.......2007-07-08
These headphones are fantastic. I do a lot of traveling for my job, and these headphones pack a lot of punch for their little size.
One of my job duties is to work on network equipment in very VERY noisy equipment rooms. With these headphones I can listen to my music in peace, without having to crank the volume up just to hear the music.
If you're looking for a great set of in-ear noise canceling headphones, I would definitely consider these.
Poor design, performace.......2007-06-30
I have had many headphones and earbuds both regular and Noise cancelling. These earbuds are great in concept but don't deliver.
1. The controller/on-off/volume is in the middle of the cord and significantly heavy. It constantly pulls the bud out of my ear, the clip doesn't hold on to my clothing well.
2. The wires that go to the buds make a rumbling noise as I move around. I almost never have this problem with any other buds.
3. The Noise canceling feature is almost insignificant. The electronics produce very minor NC, It is primarily the seal in your ears that create the noise canceling. I have a pair of Sony MDR-EX81LP Bud-Style Stereo Earphones (Black) which give the same amount of NC effect as the NC-11s due to the seal it creates in your ears. I have two other NC headsets which electronically give a much more noticeable result, unfornatually they are not in-ear (earbuds) style.
I will say that the quality of sound is not bad, but don't recommend them.
Sounds great! but..........2007-05-14
Sounds great and fits wonderfully in my ear.(since those ones that wrap around your ear soesn't cut it for me) However, the ear bud cover always falls off and is a pain to replace for such an expensive product to begin with.

Fragile.......2006-12-08
These are great headphones. I've owned at least five sets. All of them comfortable, all of them sounded great. And the inline volume control is incredibly convenient. Unfortunately, I need to advise you NOT TO BUY THESE HEADPHONES.
Why? Well, there's a problem with the construction that whenever the cord snags on something, more often than not the left headphone stops working, never to live again. The first few times, I just thought I was a klutz, so the third time it happened, I ordered two sets to replace it. Well, it just snagged again after a month's use, and again, the left headphone died.
It's finally occurred to me (slow learner, here) that MOST people will probably snag their headphones at least as often as I do, so most people will not get more than a few months use out of these. So I regretfully have to advise you to avoid these otherwise wonderful earphones. And I'm looking for something comparably cheap and good with an in-line volume control.
