Customer Reviews:
It works fine to me!.......2007-01-18
I read many reviews about this item (after buying it) and people said they weren't satisfied about the mouse's performance, and this made me feel worried, but when I received it my fears went away. Ok, maybe it's not the best mini-mouse ever, but it works pretty well in my Pavilion dv9060us.
Mini Mouse is Mini Featured ... .......2005-10-01
This mouse works OK ... it feels great in my hand, the buttons click well and it plugs in and works just fine even when the PC is already on, just like you'd hope. But it's got some really disappointing aspects. I'm using it on an HP 4150 Notebook PC. Here are the problems I've had.
#1 - No Rate of Movement Adjustment
#2 - Srolling Finger Wheel Doesn't Apply Where You'd Guess
#3 - Under-Engineered Chord
#1 - No Rate of Movement Adjustment
Every mouse I've ever owned has allowed you to adjust the "Rate of Movement" of the mouse. By this, I mean that you have the ability to change how far the cursor moves on the screen for every inch of movement you make with the mouse. Well, I searched hi and lo for this adjustment in the Mouse Properties window (WinXP) and found nothing for rate of movement.
I contacted HP support and was told that this adjustment is made (get this) by changing the "Touch Sensitivity" of the Laptop's built in touch pad COMBINED WITH a change to the "Scroll Rate" (how fast the vertical scroll feature works when you use the touch pad scroller or the mouse's finger scrolling wheel). Now HOW on earth they expect changes to "Touch Sensitivity" and "Scroll Rate" on the TOUCH PAD to impact the "Rate of Movement" on the optical hand mouse, I have no idea. But ... I tried it. And what happend?
As you might expect, the "Touch Sensitivity" of the touch pad did change. As I'd been told to move the "Sensitivity" to high, the touch pad got VERY sensitive. Even brushing my hand lightly over it sent the cursor moving ... but at the exact same Rate of Movement as before. And changing the "Scroll Rate" of the touch pad and mouse changed the speed with which the scroll feature worked on the touch pad and the mouse. That means that when I used the touch pad's built in scroller or the mouse's finger wheel, the scroll feature on screen moved much more quickly.
BUT ... what happened when I measured how far the cursor moved for every inch I moved the mouse on my desk? NOTHING. It was, as you might have guessed, exactly the same.
I brought this to the attention of the HP Tech, who told me that I must have corrupted divice drivers.
The simple truth here seems to be that, at least when used on an HP 4150 Notebook with a built in touch pad, there is no "Rate of Movement" adjustment made available to us. There is no logic to the notion that Making adjustments to A and B should magically change how C works. Defective drivers would make the mouse behave in ways you don't expect it to. This mouse behaves precisely the way the Mouse Properties window suggests it should. When you adjust the Touch Senstivity (TS)of the touchpad ... the touch pad gets more sensitive ... just like you'd guess. When you adjust the Scroll Rate (SR) of the touch pad and mouse ... the scroll rate changes. I'm not at all surprised to find that the Rate of Movement doesn't change when you adjust the TS and SR ... why would it? Does your TV get louder when you adjust the brightness and contrast?
The bottom line here is that, at least when used on an HP 4150 with a built in touch pad mouse, we don't get the chance to adjust the Rate of Movement. So, if you like a mouse that requires you to move your hand back and forth 3 times to cross the screen, you'll probably be OK with this mouse, as that's what is required as the mouse comes configured. If you prefer a mouse that moves the cursor all the way across the screen with one movement ... this one will probably drive you nuts.
#2 - Srolling Finger Wheel Doesn't Apply Where You'd Guess
I've been using a Microsoft Mouse with a scroll finger wheel for AGES. I'm used to how it works. I know that when I use the wheel in certain places in my programs, certain things will move. Well, with the HP mouse, some of those things I'm used to moving with the mouse wheel ... don't move any more. If you made a list of all the programs you use and what moves in each one when you use the mouse wheel ... you'd find that the list gets smaller with the HP Mini Mouse. Things that used to move when you used the MS Mouse Scroll Wheel don't move any more. it's as if the device driver simply doesn't access all the same features. THIS might be improved by downloading new drivers ... but I have yet to find someone at HP who can give me an answer about this that makes any sense. The drivers they told me to download were for the 4150's built in touch pad and they were designed to fix problems with the amount of area on the touch pad that responds to different kinds of input ... not the way the scroll wheel works on a USB Optical Mini Mouse. I'm not going to delete my old drivers and replace them until I get an answer that makes more sense. Odds are, I'll just buy a different mouse.
#3 - Under-Engineered Chord
While the mouse works well in most respects and does most of the things you'd expect a mouse to do (with the exceptions noted above) I have to say that I really wasn't happy with the design of the chord on this mouse. I use it on my notebook PC, which means I'm plugging it in and unplugging it and coiling it up all the time. And the chord on this mouse feels so fragile (very thin, not very springy ... delicate even) that I'm afraid I'm going to break it in no time, even though I'm very careful with it. I'm VERY careful about how I coil and uncoil it and even with those precautions it's very prone to getting kinks in it.
Compare this, for instance, to the chord used on the earphones that came with the HP 4150. The wire is a very similar diameter, but it feels MUCH more resistant to damage. It's got a springiness to it that resists permanent bends and kinks that the Mini Mouse chord doesn't have.
BOTTOM LINE
This mouse works OK ... but of all the mice I've used, it's amongh my least favorite and I'll probably replace it when I get the chance. I'm still not sure if the features issue is related to the mouse itself or the way this mouse interacts with this notebook PC ... and since I can't find any downloadable divice drivers for the Mini Mouse, until I can find someone at HP who can speak to the problem more logically, I'm kind of stuck using what I've got.
RECOMMENDATION
Keep looking for a better mouse ...
Disappointed..........2005-08-13
When I found this mouse in a store for the first time, I thought it seemed to fit my hand without sampling. I decided to purchase amazon.com and got it, however, the quality was cheaper than the looks in the package. The worst thing is that it is hard to move a mouse pointer. The amount of the moving of the pointer is very short per one movement even though I changed to max to the movement of the pointer in control panel.

Terrific Little Speaker with Clear, Strong Sound.......2007-09-07
After reading several dozen consumer reviews describing laptop speakers I puchased this one. You simply plug it into your laptop, or USB hub, swivel the gooseneck to position the speaker where you want, and you've got an excellent speaker that fits in a small laptop utility bag.
The only complaint I have is that there is no quick volume control; once you've plugged it into your USB port, it overrides the laptop's volume control "knob". You have to open the volume icon in your Control Panel every time you want to adjust the speaker volume, which can be too slow when you're being blasted by a loud video.
This is not to say that there is anything wrong with the volume modulation in the speaker itself, just that there seems to be a wide volume range across items I view--YouTube, email messages with videos from friends, etc.
If this speaker had a volume control knob it would be perfect!
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR DELL LAPTOPS.......2007-09-02
After several weeks of light, mid-volume use, the speaker stopped working on my Dell Latitude D500 and I began receiving error messages noting a "device malfunction". After trading emails with J-Lab customer service, I was instructed to return the speaker by mail (at my expense) for a refund. The refund I received was 80% of the original purchase price because, according to J-Lab, the device was still "working" upon receipt. The representative handling the return acknowledged that there has, in fact, been a history of compatibility issues with Dell laptops-- in other words, a "working" speaker may not always operate correctly when connected to a Dell laptop. Is trying this speaker on your Dell worth the risk of paying two sets of shipping charges, losing 20% of the purchase price, and spending time emailing representatives and repacking/mailing the device? If not, maybe it's worth considering alternatives.
Are we listening to the same speakers?.......2007-08-08
We bought this speaker for our Gateway M505 Media Laptop on a recent trip. The M505 has reasonable speakers for a laptop, but their volume level isn't quite strong enough for us to be happy--we'd always find ourselves straining to hear dialogue from movies.
From reading the reviews I honestly thought this would solve our problem in a nifty self-contained USB-powered fashion.
For us it didn't.
We found the speakers to be nearly identical to the M505 speakers, and while the B-Flex did give us the tiniest improvement in volume, it wasn't enough to really give us adequate volume, or the "big sound" many reviewers have mentioned. Also, there is no way a speaker the size of these can give the kind of frequency response any level of audiophile would be happy with.
So, who should try out this speaker? If you have standard tinny sounding laptop speakers (the almost nonexistent kind), these will be a big improvement. Also you will like the fact that it is USB powered so no batteries, no cords are needed.
However, having said that, I really think the bottom line is, to get truly better sound, you need to use a powered speaker. I think some of the JBL's may be the way to go.
For cost of these guys, unless you catch them on sale, my advice is to keep looking. We had to return ours. (Thanks to Amazon a really fair & generous return policy).
Definite improvement over stock, and extremely portable.......2007-07-08
My boyfriend bought me this speaker. It is plug-and-play. On my computer, often movies are not loud enough for some reason and with this speaker it's as loud as we could possibly want. Also I can blast my music throughout the house from my laptop - before I could not because it sounded horrible at high volumes.
I'm not much of a sound expert, but I think it sounds pretty good.
Flexible, Mobile & Fierceful .......2007-05-13
Love this laptop speakers!! My laptop speakers suck so much that this little guy just gives me the wonderful sound my laptop deserves!! I highly recommend it!!

Average sound.......2007-03-22
Unless your laptop's soundcard is not working, or your speakers are barely hearable I wouldn't recommend this. Odds are your laptop does as much as these speakers.
It is well built, looks resistant and it does a decent job. Do not expect very good quality.
Like it so much bought it for a friend........2007-03-08
I like the sound of mine so much I bought one fo my friend for his birthday. It's not super loud but you can listen to music from your mac, with good quality. Just plug it into your USB port. My friend loves his too. He uses his all the time. Great for travel.
Works perfectly........2007-01-30
Speakers quit working on my laptop and needed something decent and easy - and this is better than that. Good quality considering size and price.
Lots of power in a small package.......2007-01-19
I really thought the reviews for this item were probably a little over-blown, but the speakers have proven me wrong. As someone who primarily uses their laptop on the go, I have been looking for a set of small, easily transportable, decent sounding speakers. These fit into all three categories. I am pleasantly surprised by the fullness of the sound that they put out. If you're strictly an audiophile, you'd be better off investing in a good set of Bose headphones, but if you need something to quickly and efficeintly plug and play so other people can hear what is on your laptop, then you won't find a better buy for your money.
Cool!.......2007-01-13
It was a gift to my daughter and she was thrilled! We were all amazed at
the "out of the box" design and think that the folks at JLab need to expand and create a whole lot of new "out of the box" stuff to make life
easier and more efficient! And, the speaker sounds GREAT!

Amazing little thing!!.......2007-07-20
I have owned this mouse for about a month now and I am extremely impressed. Not only is this mouse tiny enough to carry with you anywhere, but it is also extremely versatile and even has a scrolling feature which many mice of comperable utility do not. The wireless feature of this mouse works perfectly and I have had no problems. The price is great as well.
***Bottom line: this is a convenient tool that I would not live without for a rather small cost***
Product Description
Here's a USB Notebook mouse that fits comfortably in either hand and delivers 800-dpi optical precision that's twice as fast and accurate as standard optical mice. It glides across almost any surface without a ball or other moving parts, letting you decide where and how you work. And the scroll wheel makes navigating documents easier and even doubles as a third button.

DOES NOT WORK.......2007-12-26
Frisby wireless keyboard and mouse--I purchased this mouse and keyboard several months ago and first began to use it when I received my new laptop last month. The mouse worked for the first week. After that no matter how many times I changed the battery or tried to recharge it--nothing. Same is true of the keyboard. Neither would work with my main computer either. Both were junk. I douldn't recommend anyone to waste their money on this purchase.

Compact and lightweight, the USB PS/2 Scroller Mini Mouse form Targus is the perfect travel companion. The USB connection gives you true "plug and play" functionality under Windows 98, and above. The USB PS/2 adapter, so it's also compatible with Windows 95 and NT. But what really makes this a "must have" for the road warrior are it's scrolling features. With the "Screen-Scroller" wheel, you can scroll up, down, left or right without moving the mouse. You can also alternate between open applications or select the "Easy Jump" feature for instant access to eight functions. On the plane or in the office, it's the perfect mouse.
Customer Reviews:
Cannot change button functions.......2003-03-14
This a small optical mouse that unfortunately does not work in that the button functions are set and you can't change them. For example, whenever a dialog box opens with a default Yes or OK button, the mouse cursor automatically moves to that button. This is an option for an intellimouse, but the option can be turned off. The Targus website says that these options are not changeable. I personally cannot use a mouse that moves the cursor by itself - I've tried for two weeks and, while writing code, have had to do some rewrites.
Otherwise, if you don't mind this functionality, it's a nice mouse. I'm returning this one.
