Apple Mighty Mouse Wireless Kit

Product Description

The Mighty Mouse's tracking engine is based on powerful laser technology that delivers 20 times the performance of standard optical tracking, giving you more accuracy and responsiveness on more surfaces. It works just as well on your office desk as it does on a table at your favorite coffee spot without a mousepad. The Might Mouse combines the capability of a multibutton mouse with Apple's signature top-shell design for both form and function. Mighty Mouse's Scroll Ball features miniature sensors that allow you to manipulate what appears on your screen merely by moving your finger. The 360-degrees scrolling perfectly positions to roll smoothly under just one finger. Touch-sensitive technology under Mighty Mouse's seamless top shell detect where you're clicking, transforming your sleek, one-button mouse into a two-button wonder. Pan images in iPhoto, view timelines in iMovie HD and Final Cut Pro, traverse bars in GarageBand and Logic Pro while sipping your morning cup of coffee or typing. Pre-programmed to launch Dashboard, Mighty Mouse's side buttons show you all your open windows in Expose with a squeeze. Mac OS X gives you the capability to choose any application from the intuitive System Preference pane.

4 out of 5 stars Good mouse, with some caveats..........2007-12-30

Overall, this is a pretty darned good mouse. It features excellent tracking, it is thankfully minimalistic (unlike many mice that have so many buttons it's nearly impossible to figure out how to use the bloody thing), and has that wonderful mini-trackball, which is the best possible way to navigate webpages or large displays (such as Photoshop). Bluetooth pairing with my iMac was a piece of cake, and mouse sensitivity and speed is excellent. Stylistically, it is a great looking mouse -- typical Jonathan Ives stuff.

On the downside, the biggest complaint I have about the mouse is that the right click function is slightly spotty for some reason (right-clicks register maybe 95% of the time), and the shape is not ergonomic (though not bad in the hand). I'd prefer an Apple ergonomic mouse with the same minimalist configuration.

4 out of 5 stars So far, so good.......2007-12-28

This was a Christmas gift for my fiance. She has only been using it for couple of days, but she really likes it. From what I have seen of this product it seems like a really good product. I would recommend it to anyone with a Mac that is looking for a bluetooth mouse.

4 out of 5 stars Apple Wireless Mouse.......2007-12-24

Pleasing design and well made, but lacks some of the sensitivity found in Logitech and Microsoft wireless mice.

4 out of 5 stars Decent Mouse but way too Expensive........2007-12-23

The mouse is pretty good, and I've had no problems with it so far. I got it just for fun, as I normally use a Logitech VX Revolution with my Macbook Pro. The Wireless MM responds very well, and because it is laser, works on a variety of surfaces including my leg and the carpet. One thing that's a bit annoying is the squeeze buttons - they aren't very practical. Although I use it for showing off, you normally wouldn't use it because it requires you to reposition your hand in order to use it. Coming from the VX Revo., I'd like to see a back/forward button, but I guess that would detract from the simplicity of this mouse. The mouse can operate on a single AA battery, to lighten the load when traveling, although I don't think this makes a big difference. I've had it for about a month now and have not had a problem with the scroll ball getting dirty.

5 out of 5 stars Mighty alright!.......2007-12-21

I really enjoy using this mouse! It performs as good as it looks. It has programmable functions and I think that's awesome. Loving the wireless!

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Good mouse, some quirks........2007-12-08

The mighty mouse is an interesting mouse that takes some getting used to, but is a good choice because of its scroll ball. The scroll ball allows you to scroll quickly and accurately, not just vertically and horizontally, but at any angle. This is handy when working in applications like Photoshop, and or on computers with smaller screens. I much prefer the scroll ball to scroll wheels, even ones that allow you to scroll horizontally. It offers enough buttons for most users, and is good for left-handed users.

The mouse has a few quirks which keep me from giving it a 5. First, the scroll ball will get dirty periodically, causing it to stop scrolling in one or more directions. This is an annoyance, but can also be fixed easily by wiping the ball with rubbing alcohol. Second, the right click is a little counterintuitive and takes some getting used to. A right click will only register if no fingers are touching the left side of the mouse. This means you must lift your left finger while right clicking. You do get used to it though, so it's not a huge issue, and on the plus side, it keeps inexperienced computer users from right-clicking accidentally.

I would recommend this mouse to left handed users, and for users who are looking for a simple mouse and don't mind cleaning it occasionally.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointingly Cheap.......2007-12-04

I know that real mice are supposed to squeak, but I did not expect the Mighty Mouse to make any noise at all. Much to my chagrin, it sounds like a cheap, no-name mouse that needs a good dousing of WD-40. The attached wire is stiff, and hampers the free movement of the mouse. Unfortunately, the only benefit to the wireless Mighty Mouse is that it's cordless. In contrast, the new Apple keyboard is a design delight, and well worth the cost. Go with a good-quality Logitech or Microsoft mouse instead.

5 out of 5 stars It's come to save the day!.......2007-12-02

I've finally got my hands on one of these things and I love it. It's got more features than the old mouse but the only one I'm really using is the scroll button. For this alone I'm giving it the highest marks. It just makes scrolling through documents and selecting menu items breeze. Unlike the traditional scroll wheel that only lets you move vertically, it is more like a track ball that allows you to move in any direction: vertically, horizontally or diagonally. Along with the scroll button, it seems to have four additional buttons: two on the top and two on the sides. I found these to be unnecessary and happily discovered that I could disable them in OS X, in effect turning it back into a one-button mouse with a cool scroll button.

Frankly, I've never understood the frustration some Windows users of two-button mice have with the Mac's one-button mice. I've always found the two-button mice frustrating and more difficult to use, always having to stop and think about which button to push if I wanted to simply click on a link. With a one-button mouse, there is only one button to push and nothing to think about. In addition, two-button mice tend to have small buttons that are jammed next to each other. This made it easy to accidently push the wrong button. The Windows' two-button mice, like the Windows operating system, are just not intuitive and not easy to use. To say that a one-button mouse is less user friendly defies logic and common sense. But it does give one some insight into the minds of Windows users: that they use Windows and its products not by choice but by habit. Seasoned Windows users who are used to doing back-flips in order to complete tasks in Windows (and who pat themselves on the back for such achievements) are not used to the simplicity of Apple products and tend to think too much.

Anyway, with the arrival of the Mighty Mouse, there is something for everyone. The mouse's ability to be programmed allows it to function as a one-button or a multi-button mouse. And after using its scroll button, you'll never be able to live without it.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible product.......2007-11-22

This is simply an awful product. Even the reviews on the MAC website concur with this opinion.

The problems are numerous: the cord is too short, the right-click button is difficult to consistently find/use, the scroll button broke after two months, and the two side buttons have NO USE whatsoever. In fact, the two side buttons take so much effort to press, I only used them a couple days because my wrist was becoming sore.

This is a product that should be avoided at all costs. The scroll button breaking issue has been reported by numerous users on reviews here and on MAC - this is not a fluke. I have nothing good to say about this product except that it looks nice.... but I'd take an ugly functional mouse over a pretty poorly-designed mouse any day.

5 out of 5 stars I love the mouse!.......2007-11-21

This mouse does not look as hi-tech and ergonomic as some products from Logitech, Kensington, or Microsoft, but this is the best mouse that I ever used. I actually also bought a bluetooth model for my MacBook Pro.

Apple Bluetooth Wireless Mighty Mouse

Amazon.com Product Description

How do you improve on the mouse that has everything? Remove its tail. Mighty Mouse--the mouse that changed the way you scroll--has gone wireless via fast and secure Bluetooth technology. Now you can take that seamless, touch-sensitive, 360-degree scrolling design with you wherever you go.

Like its namesake, Mighty Mouse puts powerful precision in a pint-sized package. With all its clicking capability tucked neatly under the seamless top shell, Mighty Mouse boasts drop-dead good looks and wireless portability, too. And then there's that ingenious Scroll Ball--the tiniest such mechanism ever used in an input device. No wonder it's a wonder.

Scroll, zoom, and more easily.

The Mighty Mouse is sleek. View larger.

Enjoy precision laser tracking.
Have a Ball
Try reading this web page without scrolling. Every day you navigate through files, email and web pages by scrolling horizontally and vertically. Now you can do it all with your fingertip. Mighty Mouse's Scroll Ball features miniature sensors that allow you to manipulate what appears on your screen merely by moving your finger. Scroll up and down to read a long web page or document. Scroll back and forth to follow a timeline in iMovie or keep track of a large spreadsheet in Excel. But getting from point A to point B doesn't always mean traveling in a straight line. Take a spin on the mouse that's not afraid of kitty-corner. With Mighty Mouse's Scroll Ball, you can scroll at a 45-degree angle — even roll in 360-degree sweeps. Pan across a massive digital image in iPhoto or Adobe Photoshop. Take in a whole PDF in Preview. The Scroll Ball moves the content on your screen just as your eyes might move across a printed page. The Scroll Ball acts as an extra mouse button too, offering you one of a few clever clicking options.

All-Terrain Mouse
The wireless Mighty Mouse finds its way courtesy of a laser tracking system that boasts 20 times more sensitivity to surface detail than traditional optical tracking engines. So you can glide the wireless Mighty Mouse over more surfaces--metal, wood, plastic, even your denim (or tweed) clad leg.

It Squeezes, Not Squeaks
It wouldn't be fair to call Mighty Mouse a two-button mouse with one button. Especially when it responds to pressure from your fingers in four different places. Besides the left- and right-click functions, the Scroll Ball clicks down to act as a third mouse button. And force-sensing buttons on either side of Mighty Mouse respond when you press in with your finger and thumb. Perfect for Mac OS X users, the side buttons are pre-programmed to activate Exposé, so you can view all your windows with a squeeze. Of course, you can also customize Mighty Mouse to open whatever you choose--Spotlight, Dashboard or any application when you have Mac OS X v10.4.6 or later.

The Button That Wasn't
Alas the fate of the one-button mouse in today's multibutton world. Who has time for intuitive, elegant design when there is so much clicking to do? Thanks to a smooth top shell with touch-sensitive technology beneath, Mighty Mouse allows you to right click without a right button. Capacitive sensors under Mighty Mouse's seamless top shell detect where your fingers are and predict your clicking intentions, so you don't need two buttons — just two fingers. Click on the left side to use Mighty Mouse in its simplest, single-button form. Click on the right to access contextual menus within applications and edit, copy, label or download from your mouse. It's simple sleight of hand.

The Mighty Mouse offers plenty of functionality.

The mouse works with 1 or 2 AA batteries.
More Mouse, Less Mess
Perfectly portable, the wireless Mighty Mouse goes anywhere you do and banishes clutter in its wake. A secure Bluetooth connection keeps you in control from up to 30 feet, and you can forget lugging around a bulky charging dock: the wireless Mighty Mouse works with one or two AA batteries. Two last longer, but one works just as well and packs ultralight.

A Mac and Mouse Game
Because Apple engineers designed Mighty Mouse to work in perfect harmony with the operating system, you get the full Mac OS X experience from the comfort of your mouse. Take that Scroll Ball button, for instance. Pre-programmed to launch Dashboard, it gives you access to a world of information in a single click. Mighty Mouse's side buttons show you all your open windows in Exposé with a squeeze. Of course, you can program both of these buttons--along with Mighty Mouse's right- and left-click functions--to launch Dashboard, Exposé, Spotlight, Application Switcher or any application you choose. Mac OS X gives you the capability, thanks to an intuitive System Preference pane.

Switch Users, Not Mice
Once you set your Mighty Mouse preferences, your Mac will remember them, even if you share your computer with others. Each account on your Mac has its own preferences, so everyone can use Mighty Mouse differently. Program Mighty Mouse as a simple, single-button mouse for a youngster. Set buttons to launch user-specific apps. Limit application access for children by pre-programming Mighty Mouse and locking System Preferences using parental controls. No matter how they work or play, Mighty Mouse makes everybody happy--all from one Mac.

X-Mouse
Mighty Mouse helps you make the most of Mac OS X. Pre-configured to launch Dashboard from the Scroll Ball button and Exposé from the side squeeze buttons, Mighty Mouse gives you lots of other options:

What's in the Box:
Apple Bluetooth Wireless Mighty Mouse, 2 AA batteries, software CD, instructions.

Product Description

The Mighty Mouse Wireless Standalone Kit complements your Apple computer and makes controlling it a breeze. It's fully Bluetooth-enabled, letting you operate your Mac from anywhere in the room. Laser tracking lets you work without rollers or tracking mechanisms -- no more wearing out or clogging, no more mouse balls to fish out and clean. The entire top shell of the Wireless Mouse operates as a super-sensitive button - the body pivots up and down to actuate the click mechanism. The force-sensing side buttons give you added control, and the elliptical shape accommodates right and left-handed users equally. A miniature scroll ball on the top adds to the control, making it a pleasure to use.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2007-12-14

I gotta say the thing I like the most about this mouse is the way it turns itself off after some time of inactivity but then instantly back on when you move it. Definitely recommended.

4 out of 5 stars The cat's meow.......2007-12-08

Two days after I brought home my Apple iMac Desktop with 24" Display MA456LL/A (2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, SuperDrive) the cute little mighty mouse went dead. This was not the result of any defect in the wired mouse but rather the work of a very satisfied kitten, Sasha H. Pussycat. My first thought was that it might be covered under my warranty, but not even the nice people at Apple think that "The cat ate my mouse" fell under their very broad warranty. "You may have a defective cat," I was told, "but the mouse was not."

A year later the cat and new mouse co-exist peacefully. This is because rather than tempt Miss Pussycat with an equally attractive replacement mouse, I went wireless. Having a year of experience with the replacement mouse I have a few thoughts.

First, use Energizer AA Batteries, 1.5 volt Lithium, Pack of Twelve, and buy lots of them. Lithium batteries go dark when they are used up and you should have replacement batteries handy.

Secondly, check the settings in System Preferences. I prefer the scroll setting to be vertical, not 360 degrees. This brings up another issue. There is no effective way to clean this trackball which is a quarter the size of a pea. Scrolling is a hit or miss operation with this mouse. The Mac forums are full of complaints and remedies, some of which you should not try such as prying open the mouse.

As to the other functions, they work great. If the scrolling issue were fixed this mouse would get a five from me. Miss Pussycat doesn't like it much however.

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy it.......2007-12-03

I can't believe this product is still on the market. It is heavy, tracks like a car through mud and the scroll wheel problem is unbelievable. Apple should know better than to release something like this. I pretty much purchased it relying on Apple's reputation and boy did I learn my lesson. Have had macs for 20 years and never have I been this disappointed with one of their products. But like others said, I got addicted to horizontal scrolling before it got too sticky, and would no longer scroll down--went back to my Kensington wheel mouse. But truth be told, it was never very accurate when doing any kind of graphics or text insertion--always very sluggish and heavy like you were moving a can of tuna across your desk.

Can't wait till we have some more choices with horizontal scrolling--sure miss it with Excel.

2 out of 5 stars Hate it. Don't use it........2007-11-29

I'd go 1 star but for the fact that it is beautiful and the bluetooth works flawlessly.

What's frustrating to me is the software, or I *guess* that's the problem. I simply have to move the darn thing too far for the movement I want on the screen and I have it adjusted to the maximum for that dimension. I would think a decent software upgrade could fix the problem and I don't know what Apple is waiting for.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Mouse.......2007-11-14

This thing is amazing! I've been using it for about 2 months now, never an issue (unless you call not being able to click well when I'm using it while seated at the couch, which is my fault - the mouse moves fine, even on the couch arm!) This thing has been amazing. I've tried other mice with my Macbook Pro, both wired and wireless, and none can top this one.

Ignore the reviewers who seem to not understand that you have to turn off the mouse for the batteries to last for 3 months (yes, there is a switch on the bottom shut it off to preseve the battery power) or those that think you can run a Mac w/ 512 mb of memory ram, opening four to five programs at a time without the mouse dragging.

2 out of 5 stars brilliant until gets dirty.......2007-09-22

this mouse came with my intel-imac 17", and i loved it. the 360 degree scroll is something fascinating and very intuitive to use, and also the lateral button was very good as "exposé". maybe i prefer the rough finish of traditional mouses better instead of the shiny one of the mighty mouse, but that's no real issue when the mouse works.

but in less then 3 months of use, the scroll stopped working and after research in the net, i found that the mouse has a serious project issue that prevents it from being properly cleaned: your sweat just enters the scroll and stays there.

i tried all the methods of cleaning, high-pressure air, alcohol, water with mild soap, pencils, vacuum cleaner - everything i've heard people saying - but 30 min later the scroll was again faulty.

there are things that must only work, and it's not conceivable to spend time trying to make the mouse work. that's so true that when i plugged the microsoft mouse on my computer, there was no way back for the mighty mouse: he is back to his nice box inside my also nice imac box.

only thing i miss is the looks - so fitted with the imac. for this one, i couldn't still find a proper successor...

2 out of 5 stars Not a two button mouse.......2007-09-21

The product review claims, "...detect where you're clicking, transforming your sleek, one-button mouse into a two-button wonder." To use the right hand click on this mouse, one must remove the left part of your hand from the mouse or it will register as a normal click. This is extremely inconvenient. Next time Apple should try to make a true two button mouse or change the logic of their software. I shouldn't have to change how I use my mouse to accommodate a product with a UI flaw.

This is the single greatest thing for a mac since plug and play.
I love this thing! A lot of people have written about how it sticks and the ball gets dirty. I will have to wait and see. But for now.... I LOVE IT!

1 out of 5 stars Breaks alot.......2007-08-29

I use this item at work. So far in the span of about 2 months, 2 of them have broken, meaning the middle ball stopped scrolling downward.
Another complaint I have is that the left and right mouse click isn't reliable because they actually aren't separate buttons. Periodically the mouse also goes into spaz mode where it will autoclick by itself for long periods of time (up to a minute).
I'm not impressed, and have to replace 2 mice now and will not purchase another unmighty mouse.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars excellent!! best BT mouse available!!!.......2006-10-07

The BlueTooth Mighty Mouse is a WONDERFUL improvement over the original Mighty Mouse and clearly, the best bluetooth mouse available ---- a direct comparison to other mouse's available -

    PROS:

    1. BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL MIGHTY MOUSE --- I liked the original (wired) Mighty Mouse, but many of the buttons were difficult to use --- the scroll wheel had a tight grip and the side buttons were impossible to use --- this new Mighty Mouse has a much better scroll wheel (ball) that is a lot looser and easier to use --- in addition, the side buttons are very functional, in addition to all the other buttons

    2. BUTTONS ---- I can't stand mouses like the Logitech ones that are filled with so many buttons, that you basically can't help but to press the wrong button here and there --- the Mighty Mouse has an excellent set of buttons, not too many, and not too little --- best of all, they are all laid out perfectly, with software that let's you decide which button will designate what function --- the best set of buttons and layout available on any mouse!

    3. LASER TRACKING ---- one reason I often do not use bluetooth mouses is because the tracking is unstable --- the mouse can't keep in line with movements --- however, I'm very pleased with this Mighty Mouse --- the tracking really does feel like a solid wired mouse, making me believe that Apple really invested a lot of good engineering into making the tracking of this mouse excellent

    CONS ---

    1. SOFTWARE --- the software is easy to use and setup, however, it doesn't seem to work with OS X Panther (10.3) --- so if you are not using Tiger (10.4) then you may wanna reconsider purchasing this mouse, unless Apple gives software for 10.3, but doesn't seem so?

    2. HOCKEY PUCK --- personally, I miss the hockey puck mouse, from the original iMac --- but hey - I think they're more Republicans in Massachusetts than there are hockey puck mouse lovers, within this entire world --- so I guess it's personal preference

overall --- it's a great mouse and the price is reasonable

if you are big on right clicking and scrolling, then don't hesitate to buy it

LOVE AND PEACE TO YOU ALL!!!
