Not a right hand mouse AND quality inconsistent.......2007-11-04
Bought 2 - same lot per packages but one has a funky right click (slow response). Despite pic this is NOT a right handed mouse; the contour is identical on both sides. Is USB but comes with USB to PS/2 connector that *actually* works as such (YEAH! and I can use it as an USB when I upgrade!). I'd give it a five except for the funky mouse which my husband (who doesn't use a right click as much as I do) has volunteered to use (isn't he a prince?).

This is a great every day mouse. If you're looking to upgrade from the old fashion track ball mouse, this is the perfect product for you. No more mouse pads, no more taking your mouse apart to clean the track ball or the inside rollers every month or so. I always hated that I had to open up my old mouse and clean out the crud that would build up in there and interfere with it's basic operation. One thing I have noticed though is that with the scroll wheel, sometimes when scrolling down a page it will go that one extra click on it's own. It's not a big deal at all, but it's just one of those glitches you notice. Not even enough to take a star away though in my opinion. For the price, this is one of the top optical mouse's you can buy.

This mouse stopped working after about 2months. It now doesnt turn on, there's no light coming from the mouse. I need to get a new one now.

I have used this mouse for 6 months now. It is a replacement for the original Dell track-ball mouse that came with the computer. Overall, it is a good mouse but I routinely expereince mouse jitters( ~2 seconds ) during switching of web page from one to another. I never had this problem with the original Dell track-ball mouse. As a web based computer game player, I hit the mouse button probably 300 times a day on the average and the left mouse switch is showing early signs of wear after 6 months of use( that is 54,000 clicks ). I hope this mouse will last for at least a year. All in all, this is a good mouse but its durability is something remained to be seen.

I can't say enough about this mouse. I've been using it for months in my research/electronics laboratory where the working surfaces leave it constantly exposed to cement pastes, silicon grease, and oils. In the past, I had frustrating issues with ball-type mice becoming dirty and not responding as a result of the harsh filth. I don't know how (or why) I went so long without this device. It's a simple hardware upgrade often overlooked; just spending the extra $20 or so eliminates the annoying "sticky cursor whack-a-mole" game that comes with using a ball mouse. Even better: no more mouse pad! Immediately opens up desk space, and makes moving the mouse out of the way a cinch.
Construction of the mouse is another plus. Given that there are no finicky moving parts to collect dirt, performance remains robust. Wires generally don't bother me; they're usually easy to conceal and the slack hangs off the back of the desk. Thus, unless you know you will need a wireless mouse to use more than a few feet away from the computer (the floor?), save yourself the slower response time and the cost of batteries by getting a wired mouse. The buttons and wheel feel comfortable and produce a satisfying chorus of clicks.
This is certainly not one of the pricey, contoured jobs you might find better suited for serious gaming. There are no "backwards/forwards" thumb buttons specially suited for surfing the internet, but for most office applications, you will find the standard setup of this comfortably accommodates the majority of your needs. This is a practical, everyday update to your workspace that you can expect to operate for years to come.

Microsofts Optical Wheel Mouse,(No Ball to clean) is very easy to use,plug it into where your old mouse is pluged. It comes with a CD that you just pop into your computer which shows you how to Adjust the mouse.
You can still use the mouse even if you don't use the CD, but the CD helps you adjust your scrolling speed. (like for playing games).

Best mouse ever. Worst mouse ever........2007-12-02
Let me start out by saying this is the most comfortable mouse I've ever used.
But as other reviewers have said, the left button gives out after a certain period of time (anywhere from 6 to 18 months). I'm on my third one, and luckily Microsoft has been very nice about issuing free replacements... the latest one was a few months out of warrantee, but they sent it to me anyway, saying this would be my last free replacement.
Of course, recently, like clockwork, my left mouse button has started to become less and less responsive. I'm going to call Microsoft up on Monday and see if they can do anything for me, but if not, I'm going to have to look elsewhere... probably Logitech. Their MX 400 mouse seems to have a similar design, so I'll try out that one.
It's really a shame that Microsoft can't simply correct the problem with this mouse.
Edit 12/2/07: I called Microsoft, and they said they would, in fact, send me another one at no cost. I have to give them credit for their customer service, especially since my original purchase is well out of warrantee.
In the meantime, since the replacement is on backorder, I did purchase the Logitech MX 400, which does feel similar to the Microsoft Mouse, and according to the Amazon review of that mouse, does not seem to be plagued with the reliability issues of this one. I'd urge you to check that one out.
Left Click Problem.......2007-11-10
This is a wonderful mouse in so many aspects... great ergonomics, very smooth scroll wheel and all the needed buttons -- except for one very serious flaw. The left mouse click button only lasts for about a year in normal use. I've had two of these mice and the same problem sent each of them headed to the landfill. Other reviewers have had the same problem. It's a shame that Microsoft hasn't owned up to the problem and offered an exchange program. They designed a great product, but the quality of construction just doesn't do this product justice.

I bought the intellimouse explorer 4.0 and the left mouse button began malfunctioning about two months after I got it. By malfunctioning I mean it taks 4 or 5 clicks to accomplish what should only need one or two clicks. If you want a great mouse, I would go with Logitech. My favorite is the Logitech G3. I have to admit that it is a little pricey.....but at least the damn thing works. Microsoft should stick to selling software.
Smooth scrolling is here to stay.......2007-10-23
Having tried a wide spectrum of mice, this is the one that is demonstrably (ergonomically) head and shoulders superior to the rest. The smooth scroll is completely natural, amazing how smoothly and imperceptibly I can scroll through pdfs, webpages and such.. (the days of specifying is a scrollwheel click 3, 5 or ooh 6 lines are long gone). The buttons on the side are quite handy and can be mapped to any percievable action/keystroke (page up/page down for instance). The only ergonomic peeve I have is that the mouse is on the large side, mostly everything these days is available in various sizes... why not mice? I dont find the horizontal scroll with the tilt action useful; that said, it would be very welcome if the driver allowed the tilt click to be re-mapped to actions like backward and forward webpage functions. Eventhough everything else is customizable, the driver does not allow re-mapping the tilt click , such a bummer.. I just hope maybe there's a registry hack somewhere :). Thats also why I took off a star.

Multi-Pack - how many is that??.......2004-04-21
Unless I'm missing something, I don't see how many of these mice you get in the "multi-pack". After a Google search, looks to be "5". This is a pretty glaring omission,IMO.
Haven't used this product yet, after picking a couple of these up locally on sale for around $13 ea., but generally speaking, MS produces pretty good quality components, so I expect this product to work well.

An old joke, but a good one. The ball-less mouse is awesome! It can be ported to the usual mouse plug in slot (uhh, my brain isnt working the way it used to, PS/2?) or to USB. As I have USB 2.0 on my mobo, (lots and lots of USB slots) this was a nice and fast option.
It is incredibly fast, (adjustable, of course) and already, within two days, I can see the AMAZING difference between my old mouse Microsoft IntelliMouse 1.2A PS/2.
The balls arent there to collect fur, hence it will awalys stay fresh and fast (without, as so many of us are used to, having to 'shave our mice' or take the roller ball cover off and get tweesers out to get the grunge out *ick! do my hands really get covered in that crud? No wonder I get colds from my children!).
This mouse has a LOT of options for tweaking, if you like that sort of thing, or can be used straight up as a one wheel, two click mouse. I LOVE IT.
I WILL NOT GIVE IT BACK.
THIS MOUSE IS GREAT. IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT BUYING IT, DO SO!

This is the best mouse I've owned. I tried the wireless rat and it did not meet the reliability standards with the batteries and inconsistent operability. This optical wheel mouse works beautifully with the smoothest scroll wheel going. I switch back and forth between left and right hands for ergonomic reasons. The symmetrical design facilitates this practice nicely.

This mouse is great, there was a slight connector issue with the last piece i got but the replacement works great.... pointer motion is smooth and the mouse itself is well shaped for holding... there are no customisable keys but accept it, we rarely need them...

Pretty good mouse, it points, it scrolls, what more do you want a mouse to do? I wish it had a little more weight, I think this mouse is too light. I like the weight of the logitech better, but the scroll wheel is better on the MS mouse.

I have used this mouse for over a year with Windows 98SE and Windows XP Home. I was a bit surprised that XP had no driver update, but it works fine just the same. I have yet to find a superior mouse. Trust me, I have looked. I recommend this product without any hessitation to anyone looking to replace the traditional mouse. It functions even without a mouse pad. I doubt that there is a better product out there.

Good mouse but I think it's dying.......2006-05-30
I bought this mouse in Feb. 06 and loved it until this week. Simple to use, good for a left-hander, cheap, etc. However, it's now driving me crazy and I think I have to run out and buy a new mouse. For a few days it's been blinking/flashing and behaving erratically--rebooting or unplugging and replugging the USB cord seems to help temporarily. Now it's not blinking anymore but it isn't highlighting my text properly. It's just enough "off" to disrupt my work. So I'm not sure I can recommend this mouse.

This is by far the best mouse I've ever used. I have one at work and one at home. It glides smoothly on just about any surface but if you want the best control and feel use a mouse pad. The only caveat is you can't use it on a mirror or clear glass surface. That's not a problem for me and I'll never go back to the old ball mouse.

This mouse is great. It fits my hand perfectly, and is smooth when I move it. The only issue i've had with it is when I move it really really fast. Granted, this doesn't happen much, but when I need it (during game play) the mouse makes a wierd zig zag pattern. Totally messes me up. But as far as optical mice go, all have this problem. Another thing that bugs me, is that red light shines through the cracks around the scroll wheel. Not really a problem, but just bugs me because this wierd "Y" shape shines on my monitor or speakers.
Besides those two pitfalls, it is awesome! I got this version rather than the 5 button version for one reason. I don't need the other 2 buttons (thumb and ring finger/pinky). I would never use them. So I saved myself the 15 bucks, and got myself a sweet piece of hardware.

This is the best mouse I have ever used, it moves smoothly, works with my USB ports, works on both my PC and Mac, works really good without a mouse pad or a one level everywhere area to put it on, but best of all, you don't have to clean it.
I've had mine for a few months now, and the most I've had to do to clean it was, nothing! :)
