Thee Best Mouse.......2007-12-20
I love this mouse. I've tried expensive laser mice and I just can't get into them. This is the most comfortable and easiest to use mouse around. And the best thing is - it's cheap.
This is such a great mouse........2007-12-17
I bought this mouse for work because I was sick of the non-optical crap my company used. After three years the of 40 hour weeks the left click started to go on it.
Comfortable to use for extended periods of time, a good value and the extra buttons for back and forward are so useful while browsing.
I eventually got a few other people in my department to pick up this mouse as they saw how nice it was.
Simplicity.......2007-10-24
I have tried many mouses and I choose this one over them all, simply because of its simplicity and ease. It is plug and play into any USB port, good for laptop or desktop, optical sensor works on virtually any surface, even your leg. The scroll button and two extra buttons let you surf the web faster by serving as forward, back, new tab, and scroll buttons. It is the most comfortable, simple, effective, and efficient mouse I have owned.
A good, inexpensive mouse.......2007-10-23
I purchased this mouse 3-4 months ago for my MacBook and have had no issues so far. The only (minor) complaint I have with this mouse is that the scroll wheel is very noisy. In a very silent room (early in the morning or late at night) it is loud enough to disturb a light sleeper. Luckily my wife doesn't sleep light. :-)
I mostly use the left and right buttons and the scroll wheel. Have had no use for the 4th and 5th buttons yet.
Another "feature" I like is that the mouse matches my MacBook.
Most reliable mouse I've ever owned.......2007-10-05
I bought my first Intellimouse Optical back in 2001 when I got my first computer with USB ports and to this day it's still working away without any problems. I bought three more a year later and they're all still working perfectly as well. I've never had any other mouse that lasted this long. I also have a Logitech laser mouse, but I still like the feel of the Intellimouse Optical a little better.
It's a great product.
Product Description
MICROSOFT Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Platinum -- IntelliMouse Explorer throws out all the old, mechanical technology used in current mice. High-performance optical technology - no mouse ball. IntelliMouse Explorer uses a new optical sensor calledIntelliEye. This sensor scans the surface beneath the mouse 1,500 times per second to accurately and crisply track the smallest motion. It works on hundreds of surfaces (i.e., no mouse pad required) and stays precise because there are no moving parts to wear out or stick. No moving parts - replacing the mouse ball with an optical sensor means there are no moving parts to collect dirt, dust and grime, and no ball to be cleaned. 5 programmable buttons Batteries last up to 6 months For PC running Windows 98SE+

Best mouse ever. Worst mouse ever........2007-12-02
Let me start out by saying this is the most comfortable mouse I've ever used.
But as other reviewers have said, the left button gives out after a certain period of time (anywhere from 6 to 18 months). I'm on my third one, and luckily Microsoft has been very nice about issuing free replacements... the latest one was a few months out of warrantee, but they sent it to me anyway, saying this would be my last free replacement.
Of course, recently, like clockwork, my left mouse button has started to become less and less responsive. I'm going to call Microsoft up on Monday and see if they can do anything for me, but if not, I'm going to have to look elsewhere... probably Logitech. Their MX 400 mouse seems to have a similar design, so I'll try out that one.
It's really a shame that Microsoft can't simply correct the problem with this mouse.
Edit 12/2/07: I called Microsoft, and they said they would, in fact, send me another one at no cost. I have to give them credit for their customer service, especially since my original purchase is well out of warrantee.
In the meantime, since the replacement is on backorder, I did purchase the Logitech MX 400, which does feel similar to the Microsoft Mouse, and according to the Amazon review of that mouse, does not seem to be plagued with the reliability issues of this one. I'd urge you to check that one out.
Left Click Problem.......2007-11-10
This is a wonderful mouse in so many aspects... great ergonomics, very smooth scroll wheel and all the needed buttons -- except for one very serious flaw. The left mouse click button only lasts for about a year in normal use. I've had two of these mice and the same problem sent each of them headed to the landfill. Other reviewers have had the same problem. It's a shame that Microsoft hasn't owned up to the problem and offered an exchange program. They designed a great product, but the quality of construction just doesn't do this product justice.
A piece of junk. microsoft should stick to selling Windows.......2007-11-05
I bought the intellimouse explorer 4.0 and the left mouse button began malfunctioning about two months after I got it. By malfunctioning I mean it taks 4 or 5 clicks to accomplish what should only need one or two clicks. If you want a great mouse, I would go with Logitech. My favorite is the Logitech G3. I have to admit that it is a little pricey.....but at least the damn thing works. Microsoft should stick to selling software.
Smooth scrolling is here to stay.......2007-10-23
Having tried a wide spectrum of mice, this is the one that is demonstrably (ergonomically) head and shoulders superior to the rest. The smooth scroll is completely natural, amazing how smoothly and imperceptibly I can scroll through pdfs, webpages and such.. (the days of specifying is a scrollwheel click 3, 5 or ooh 6 lines are long gone). The buttons on the side are quite handy and can be mapped to any percievable action/keystroke (page up/page down for instance). The only ergonomic peeve I have is that the mouse is on the large side, mostly everything these days is available in various sizes... why not mice? I dont find the horizontal scroll with the tilt action useful; that said, it would be very welcome if the driver allowed the tilt click to be re-mapped to actions like backward and forward webpage functions. Eventhough everything else is customizable, the driver does not allow re-mapping the tilt click , such a bummer.. I just hope maybe there's a registry hack somewhere :). Thats also why I took off a star.
Excellent USB Mouse, lots of features........2007-10-19
Comes with PS2 converter, works very well, lots of features including extra buttons. This is a very good USB Mouse.

Problems with Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0.......2007-08-07
I purchase intelleMouse 3.0 hoping that it would solve the problem that I had with a similar mouse. At first the mouse worked extremely well exhibiting no sticking. Lately it has been exhibiting some the same problems that I had with the previous mouse. With the first Mouse the scroll bar would move on its own and the would not move smoothly across the page. The problem with the scroll ball is Ok, but now and again the pointer would move so far and stop and and I would have to pickup mouse and and move the pointer again. I am planning to change pad and see if things improve.
the old standard roller-ball mouse.......2007-05-31
the old standard roller-ball mouse - bought one of these just in case. unlike an optical mouse, this one can work on mouse pads with colors and designs. [optical mice need a flat black pad.] not expensive.
Using the scroll wheel will ruin the mouse.......2007-03-26
This review is based on the Intelloumouse 3.0 I bought from this very page at amazon. The label on the back of my mouse says "Product ID 63618-576" which is different from the "model number" given on this page,..but this is what amazon sent me!
I bought one of thse in 12/05. In 09/06 it was ruined because I used the scroll wheel regularly. The scroll wheel is sensitive, so after I used it enough it started to send signals to my computer even if I wasn't using it, but I was moving the mouse around and using only the two main buttons. What happened was there were too many signals being sent and the program on my computer that allows the mouse to communicate with the computer locked up. The keybord still worked fine, but the mouse didnt move. I had to reboot constatnly and start afresh, but the more I used the mouse (even though I had stopped using the wheel), the more it acted up. Rebooting didn't help anymore.
I bought more intellimouse on 9/06 (that's six months ago) from amazon becuase it's cheap and I bought THREE because I knew they were gonna break. Same product ID (63618-576). I decide then that I'm gonna try not to use my scroll wheel at all so as to make them last. So I'm on the first mouse. I use it everyday and two weeks ago, for whatever reason I start using the scroll wheel. I just did. Two days ago, there it goes. This one last only 6 months, and I'm moving on to my second.
I'm not going to buy this mouse again. I'm definteily not going to buy this from Amazon if they're sending me the wrong Product ID. The box doesn't even say the "3.0" part. The box also doesn't give the product ID, but theres a sticker (neither amazon's nor Microsoft's) that gives the same Product ID as that given on this amazon page. Like I stated, the Product ID I gave at the top of my review I got from the label on my mouse. Maybe if I see a basic PS/2 Intellimouse w/ wheel at a store that's clearly a different, newer version, one thats higher quality than this one, I might give it a try, but not this one again, not from Amazon even though for the most part I trust this company.
Best Shape for Mouse EVER.......2006-06-06
First of all, I'd like to begin by saying that I've used almost all the mice out there. From the $60 Logitech G5 (supposed to be the most advanced mouse out there) and the $70 Razor Copperhead and I have to say, none whatsoever, can matchup to the legendary balled intellimouse series.
The shape is ingenius. It is perfect. When I decided to switch to optical, I thought that I can get one that performs as well as the intellimouse but w/o the hassle of having a ball. I thought I could get greater accuracy. However, Logitech mice are very poorly shaped.
They have the fundamental concept of how you are supposed to use a mouse all wrong. And now, MS is actually copying them by stopping production of their Intellimouse Explorer series and coming out with the new laser mice that are shaped similar to logitech. NO!!!!
There were some optical mice that could matchup to the balled Intellimouse 3.0. They are the Intellimouse optical 1.1 SECOND EDITION, and the intellimouse Explorer 3.0. Both of which has stopped production and will bid over $200 on EBay!!!
What I want to do is take the LED or laser out of the current mice I have and put it in my old Intellimouse 1.1a (same as 3.0). Then I will finally have an optical mouse that I love as much as my old intellimouse. =]
it just feels right.......2005-11-19
what happens to Microsoft making all those new mice... the new ones don't fit the palm as nicely as the old one...
also i like the feel of the mouse ball, and the wheel clicking when you scroll it. so my choice excludes all the optical, tilt wheel, and the battery-trouble of wireless.
why microsoft don't make these mouse any more, it puzzles me. it is my best-loved classic mouse.

Kudos for the wireless mouse.......2007-01-10
I received the colbalt blue mouse on time without any problems. Initially, I had trouble installing it, but my son figured it out and now I am truly enjoying wireless technology. The price was right too as I hope to have many years of utilizing this peice of technology.
MS Wireless Intellimouse.......2007-01-03
Having used a wide varity of mice for my computer including the wireless one I bought from Dell when I first ordered my machine, I would highly recommend the MS Wireless Intellimouse. I liked it so much that I ordered another one for my office and have recommended it to many of my co-workers.
Waste of 3 gift certificates.......2006-08-31
I was sent a very nice wireless mouse. You have to have a CD to install this on your computer. I was unfortunately sent the wrong CD. I have been all over trying to find the correct CD. I have to buy the Wireless Mouse to get the CD that comes with it. With shipping this cost me around $25. Thanks for nothing.

Product Description
From the Manufacturer
The IntelliMouse Optical is one in Microsoft's family of ball-free mouse products using digital optical tracking technology. Sporting the silver detailing, signature red taillight, and glowing underside made popular by IntelliMouse Explorer, IntelliMouse Optical features a smaller design that is comfortable for both left-handed and right-handed mouse users.
Microsoft IntelliEye optical technology changes the way people use a mouse by removing the ball, thereby providing more control and accuracy and eliminating the need for mouse pads and cleaning. IntelliEye technology provides accuracy and durability by replacing the mouse ball with an optical sensor and digital signal processor (DSP). The sensor captures snapshots of the work surface at a rate of 6,000 images per second, and the DSP translates image changes into onscreen movements. The Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical works with Macs and PCs.

Flawed.......2005-12-09
The wheel is a bit stiff but the tracking is nice. Decent size for a larger hand. Buttons are crisp yet the left click fails quickly. Worked great for about 6 months in an office environment.
I moved to Logitech and found their mice to be much better quality.
Great for those who like Intellimice.......2005-11-14
I use this mouse for a spare computer. I make no claims to know the statistical reliability of these mice, but for me it has been great. I use mice quite heavily, mostly for FPSs, at least a couple hours per day. I have an old wireless one, a 3.0, and this one, and all of them are not only still working, but in perfect condition. I dislike the wheel, because it can be difficult to move it just the right amount in games, where that is crucial. If you like the smooth feeling, though, this is the perfect 5-star mouse. The Logitech mice are similar in quality, but in my opinion the ergonomics suck - these are comfortable enough to use for hours on end, every day.
