3 out of 5 stars loud scroll wheel.......2007-12-30

The mouse feels pretty good and left and right click are ok. The scroll wheel is way too loud. Everytime you scroll it sounds like you're climbing a big hill on a rollercoaster, click, click, click. It almost feels a bit loose and broken I'll try it for awhile and see if i can get used to it.

1 out of 5 stars Mouse Pointer moves erratically. I gave up on it........2007-12-15

I purchased this mouse. I installed it and noticed the mouse pointer would move suddenly all around the screen. I looked the problem up at the Microsoft sight and they gave me a page of about 35 registry changes which I had to make to try to correct. The changes had to be made after you un-installed the driver, hence you had to work with out a mouse. What a major ordeal. Many other people had the same problem. The fix they gave me did not work. I just bought a logitect laser mouse. Microsoft needs to get their act together on this mouse. I can not recommed it to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Dad loved it! Score!.......2007-11-22

I use an Microsoft Intellimouse from a couple of years ago and I love it. Then I visited my father whose mouse was made in the dark ages and using it drove me nuts. No scroll wheel, no side buttons for going forward/backward on pages, etc. It wasn't even a good fit for anyone's hand. I sent him this Intellimouse for his birthday. He absolutely LOVES it! It was one of the most successful presents I have ever given him. He spends a lot more time on his computer than he did before. Now, if I can only get him to check his emails more often.....

2 out of 5 stars Not as good as the original.......2007-10-29

I bought one of these last year to replace the MS Intellimouse Explorer that I had been using since the year 2000. As is well-known, the new MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 has a much clunkier scrollwheel (that got a little smoother after a few months), but was not as nice as the one on the original. The new mouse is also felt smaller in my hands (not as good). After only 9 1/2 months the mouse developed the problem of frequently interpreting a single click as a double click. This is ridiculously frustrating. The mouse is supposed to have a 5 year warrantee but, perhaps not surprisingly, Microsoft doesn't appear to want to make it easy to use it. For instance, warranty information did not even come in or appear on the box/package. I decided to just give up on the Microsoft mouse. I just purchased a Logitech G5 (even though I am not a gamer) and it seems pretty nice. It too is a little small, but it seems to work well so far. I would NOT recommend the MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0.

5 out of 5 stars Reliable.......2007-10-22

I've used so many mice, including expensive brands, and I always seem to come back to this mouse. It's reliable. It just works. I think I've ordered this mouse 3 or 4 times for various situations (work, home, wife, parents). It's the only mouse my wife will use. I've had one case where a new order came with a broken button, but Amazon replaced it at no cost very quickly.

I'm a big fan of well positioned thumb buttons (I have them tied to both the Enter key and Close Application) and this mouse covers that really well.

I must have a mouse wheel that doesn't smoothly scroll, as it gives me far more control.

No crazy software application running outside of the default Mouse settings that comes with Windows. This is a huge plus. And the integration with the Mouse settings just works, and works very well.

I have found that tilt-wheel mice just don't add enough functionality for me to find them useful combined with the "mushiness" that comes through all too often. This mouse has no tilt wheel thankfully.

Highly recommended!

Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer with Tilt-Wheel

Product Description

MICROSOFT Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Platinum -- IntelliMouse Explorer throws out all the old, mechanical technology used in current mice. High-performance optical technology - no mouse ball. IntelliMouse Explorer uses a new optical sensor calledIntelliEye. This sensor scans the surface beneath the mouse 1,500 times per second to accurately and crisply track the smallest motion. It works on hundreds of surfaces (i.e., no mouse pad required) and stays precise because there are no moving parts to wear out or stick. No moving parts - replacing the mouse ball with an optical sensor means there are no moving parts to collect dirt, dust and grime, and no ball to be cleaned. 5 programmable buttons Batteries last up to 6 months For PC running Windows 98SE+

2 out of 5 stars Best mouse ever. Worst mouse ever........2007-12-02

Let me start out by saying this is the most comfortable mouse I've ever used.

But as other reviewers have said, the left button gives out after a certain period of time (anywhere from 6 to 18 months). I'm on my third one, and luckily Microsoft has been very nice about issuing free replacements... the latest one was a few months out of warrantee, but they sent it to me anyway, saying this would be my last free replacement.

Of course, recently, like clockwork, my left mouse button has started to become less and less responsive. I'm going to call Microsoft up on Monday and see if they can do anything for me, but if not, I'm going to have to look elsewhere... probably Logitech. Their MX 400 mouse seems to have a similar design, so I'll try out that one.

It's really a shame that Microsoft can't simply correct the problem with this mouse.

Edit 12/2/07: I called Microsoft, and they said they would, in fact, send me another one at no cost. I have to give them credit for their customer service, especially since my original purchase is well out of warrantee.

In the meantime, since the replacement is on backorder, I did purchase the Logitech MX 400, which does feel similar to the Microsoft Mouse, and according to the Amazon review of that mouse, does not seem to be plagued with the reliability issues of this one. I'd urge you to check that one out.

2 out of 5 stars Left Click Problem.......2007-11-10

This is a wonderful mouse in so many aspects... great ergonomics, very smooth scroll wheel and all the needed buttons -- except for one very serious flaw. The left mouse click button only lasts for about a year in normal use. I've had two of these mice and the same problem sent each of them headed to the landfill. Other reviewers have had the same problem. It's a shame that Microsoft hasn't owned up to the problem and offered an exchange program. They designed a great product, but the quality of construction just doesn't do this product justice.

1 out of 5 stars A piece of junk. microsoft should stick to selling Windows.......2007-11-05

I bought the intellimouse explorer 4.0 and the left mouse button began malfunctioning about two months after I got it. By malfunctioning I mean it taks 4 or 5 clicks to accomplish what should only need one or two clicks. If you want a great mouse, I would go with Logitech. My favorite is the Logitech G3. I have to admit that it is a little pricey.....but at least the damn thing works. Microsoft should stick to selling software.

4 out of 5 stars Smooth scrolling is here to stay.......2007-10-23

Having tried a wide spectrum of mice, this is the one that is demonstrably (ergonomically) head and shoulders superior to the rest. The smooth scroll is completely natural, amazing how smoothly and imperceptibly I can scroll through pdfs, webpages and such.. (the days of specifying is a scrollwheel click 3, 5 or ooh 6 lines are long gone). The buttons on the side are quite handy and can be mapped to any percievable action/keystroke (page up/page down for instance). The only ergonomic peeve I have is that the mouse is on the large side, mostly everything these days is available in various sizes... why not mice? I dont find the horizontal scroll with the tilt action useful; that said, it would be very welcome if the driver allowed the tilt click to be re-mapped to actions like backward and forward webpage functions. Eventhough everything else is customizable, the driver does not allow re-mapping the tilt click , such a bummer.. I just hope maybe there's a registry hack somewhere :). Thats also why I took off a star.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent USB Mouse, lots of features........2007-10-19

Comes with PS2 converter, works very well, lots of features including extra buttons. This is a very good USB Mouse.
