The fingerprint reader took about 5 minutes to install and set up my fingerprint scan. As long as you are using IE it works great. It does not seem to work with Firefox at all. Of course being a Microsoft branded item, getting any support is nearly impossible.

A lot of other reviewers gave rated this product low due to it not working. I have had no trouble installing or using this fingerprint reader. It does everything it says it will log website passwords, unlock your computer, and log it to your computer.

False advertising, package claims Vista compatible but they have no drivers for x64 and if you read the replies people have gotten from reps at Microsoft they don't plan any. Good job supporting your own hardware and OS MS.

This product is designed for convenience, not security. I was hoping it would replace the windows logon with a fingerprint logon to increase security but instead of replacing the logon, it just lets you have the option of logging on with your fingerprint (you can still just type in the password).
Does not seem to work with Opera.
Great for Vista UAC, but no 64 bit drivers.......2007-11-04
This device is ideal for Vista; it makes UAC login screens much less of a hassle. If you have the 32 bit edition of Vista, I recommend it. Unbelievably, more than a year after the release of this product, no 64 bit drivers are available.
I have mine set up so that my index finger accesses my standard account and my middle finger is administrator. Logging in and installing programs has never been easier.

great fingerprint security and wireless mouse kit.......2007-11-19
I gave this kit a four only because the scroll wheel on the mouse does not have detents; it rolls way to freely without clicks which makes it hard to control at times. For example, a when trying to scroll through a drop down list, the lack of a clicking feature causes you to jump several selections at a time. the mouse is rather large but it is comfortable for me. The 5 buttons are programmable and positioned ergonomically well.
The fingerprint reader is great added security, from what I understand it is not bullit proof security but I guess if someone really wants to steal my data they will get it somehow regardless. This is secure enough for me and functions very well. It does not inherently work with firefox web browser but there are extensions that make it work.
The finger print reader is the receiver for the wireless mouse. I've found the the batteries last a very long time in the mouse; six months or more and I use it every day.
I recommend this kit.
My opinion has changed..........2007-11-16
I once rated the fingerprint reader very highly....when I was running IE6. Now, with Internet Explorer 7 it plainly does not work. It will crash the app every time. MS sent out an updated driver that fixed the problem only on IE6, so until they decide to fix the problem, I'm stuck with a glowing red paperweight. Another issue that I have is that it doesn't work with other browsers. Another way MS can monopolize the market.
On the mouse end, it's definately a good product. Accurate and quick. The ONLY change I would make is some sort of low battery indicator. When the batteries run out, it just stops working without warning.
As of this review, there are no drivers that will allow the reader to work with IE7.
doesn't work with all the programs.......2007-08-23
When I saw this product on amazon, I really liked it, more so for the price. However, I hardly use the fingerprint reader now. Reason: it doesn't work with Windows logon*, MSN messenger and Firefox.... oh did I tell you that Windows and MSN messenger were also made by Microsoft?
*I can log on to windows using fingerprint reader when I first start the computer, but not when login screen appears after a screensaver. I have an IBM laptop with a fingerprint reader which doesn't have the same problem
Unreliable, Problems with security and info.......2006-06-21
I have this reader and the APC Bio-something. And the APC is sooo much better. I find myself teaching this reader my password 9 times out of 10, and using it only shortly after. Perhaps a software issue. Either way, you shouldn't have to think about it. The APC, I am never worrying about...I know it's there and ready. Too late to return this - but beware.
Nifty gadget w/excellent mouse.......2006-02-16
First off, let me say that the price is more than worth it just for the mouse (I got mine for about $35). It has side scrolling, which was new for me, and really nice. The other great thing are the programmable thumb-side buttons, which I have set for Back/Forward--really handy for web surfing. It's a comfortable fit for the average hand. The only weird part, if you're used to an older scrolling mouse, is that the scroll button scrolles smooth (no bumps as you move the wheel), which is something I'll have to get used to. Overall, a great mouse.
As for the fingerprint reader, I think it's a big help. There are plenty of password sites that I rarely use and have a difficult time remembering the password/username for. The reader is great for those, along with other unimportant sites (NOT for sites that require better security measures, i.e. sites that do financial transactions, bank, etc.) While it is a great time saver, there are a couple of downsides:
1) If you forget your password(s) and the reader malfunctions somewhere down the road, I hope you have a REALLY good memory.
2) It only works for Internet Explorer, so all you Firefox, Opera, Safari, Netscape, etc. users are out of luck.
On the whole, the package is a great deal, if you can find it near the price I did.

Altough the pictures of the keyboard clearly show it without any wires coming from it, when it arrived it had a USB cable attached to it, the very thing a person wants to avoid if they are going for a wireless product. The seller refunded the cost of the unit but kept the S&H fee (a source of profit from the much lower actual cost to them) and would not pay for the return postage. They said we should have scrolled down to the bottom page of the web site to read the small print -- "USB wire attached". Beware of dealings with this marketer.

I couldn't get it to work properly.......2007-10-31
However I'm using Vista Ultimate 64bit. I know I know but I'm testing the OS. It says it's compatible but it runs extremely slow if not at all. Just a note the autorun on the CD provided installs the 32bit version. you have to explore the CD to find the 64bit software. The website only has the drivers and not the software. i reinstalled the software twice but same results. this is on a clean OS install.
Great product-Works perfect in Vista 64.......2007-10-30
Since Microsoft deosn't support their fingerprint reader in Vista 64 I was looking for someone who does. I ordered this product with great hopes. It installed without a problem and was working within minutes. It works better than the Microsoft product when I used that with XP and then Vista 32. It did a better job of recognizing fingerprints the first time versus the MS reader. Plus, it has other features that the MS reader doesn't have and best of all, it is less expensive. Great product.
Waste of money nd time.......2007-10-12
I was hoping for a product that would increase security as it streamlined my access to various accocunts and websites. That won't happen with this product. First of all, it arrives in one of those plastic vaults that requires serious hardware to open. Then... in a tutorial that includes a practice screen with four fingerprint areas and instructions to swipt the same finger four times... I was never able to get above three. I've used plenty of fingerprint readers in the past, and I have never seen such problems. I tried dirty finger, clean finger, damp finger, lotioned finger. Nothing worked. I was never able to produce four scans in a row.
Eikon not an Icon........2007-08-17
I bought this product thinking I would be entering some cool new era of personal computer security. I was wrong. Instead of security, I ended up with a product not really designed for anything other than logging into windows. Oh it has other software features, though non of them are worth mention. The password manager is the silliest and most misleading part of this package. Suffice it to say that it is easier to type in your email address and password than it is to try to log in via the Eikon. See, you cannot visit a website to login and use your Eikon. Instead youre supposed to scan your finger, then choose the website from a list of stored sites. Now if the Eikon actually read your scan each time and reacted as advertised, then this might not be so annoying. However, the item does not work as advertised and often you will find yourself running your finger over the scanner 3-4 times before it even responds. A momumental waste of my hard earned money.
A truly amazing product..........2007-05-16
This product is really cool. I used to always get my passwords confused because even though I tried to use just a few passwords (one for my bank and credit card accounts, one for stuff like webmail, and one for sites that don't matter), different sites have different requirements. Some require a number or symbol, some don't. So I used variations of a password, but I could never remember which sites I used the variations for. And then I'd either have to request to receive an email that reset my password, or sometimes I'd even get locked out and then have to call customer service. Arghhh!
It takes a little practice to learn how to swipe your finger, but once you get it the Eikon always recognized me and got me into my password protected websites in a flash. I tested to see if my friends could get in... it wasn't scientific, but it was comforting to know they couldn't. There is a one-time "registration" of all your accounts, but once that's set up there's no looking back. I counted over 50 websites with passwords that I don't have to worry about anymore!

Love the mouse, works fine, the fingerprint scaner is more of a toy than something you need, but it was less money than the model without. Mouse is comfortable and has extra buttons that work as expected.

I bought this laptop from all the hype about the upcoming WiMedia UWB technology, I was anticipating blazing speeds with a wireless docking station that I would never have to hook a cable to. What I received was a docking station that the units own documentation said it was only reliable "up to 18 inches" and the reality was in order to get acceptable video quality had to be 12 inches or less. My Ethernet connection crawled at about 2 Mbps.
The laptop is light and functions well, but don't waste your money on the wireless docking station, the performance is a real disappointment and almost unusable.
