This is my second Polar watch and I love the product. Gym machines over estimate the number of calories burned and I wanted something more accurate.
No need in thinking I burned 500 calories when I only burned 390.
If you are serious about losing and keeping off the weight, this is a worthwhile investment. Don't even think about purchasing a different brand. Polar is the gold standard.
They have many models to choose from. You will be satisfied.

I received this monitor as a gift, and am pleased with my use of it for monitoring my heart rate during cardiac rehab exercise. For that purpose it has performed quite satisfactorily. The only reason that I gave it only four stars is that I find the advanced functions a bit overwhelming, with very little explanation provided in the user's manual. This is particularly true for the PC communications functions, which I have yet to investigate and/or attempt. When I have had more experience with the device, I feel that I will be equally satisfied, but I would like more detail in the user manual.

I've been using this for several months now. I think it is very difficult to see the labels for the side push buttons to know what they are. The "fancy" decorative pattern hides the descriptions. Admittedly, after you use it for several months, you remember what they are, but initially it is a pain.
I have a great deal of difficulty getting the thing to register my heart rate at the beginning of my workout. I don't sweat a lot and this makes the "connection" with my chest lacking. Even when I wet the sensor areas as the instructions tell you, it still doesn't do the trick. I've adjusted the strap as tight as possible (without constricting my breathing). I wind up exercising for 10 minutes before it registers, therefore, my exercise totals are off.
On the plus side, it seems accurate once it starts to monitor. It is very helpful to keep your heart rate at the desired MPH%.
Does what I need.......2007-12-17
This product does exactly what I wanted. I wanted an accurate counting of my calories and it does just that. It is easy to set up (the date and month are backwards which threw me off at first but I figured it out), easy to work, and easy to read results. I have only had it a month but I am happy with it. If you read the maintenance of the monitor it is a little strict about keeping it in a cool place and not storing it in a towel or non-breathable thing like a sports bag (which is what I wanted to do) but it is the same size as a watch and has the same functions as a watch so the days I go to the gym I just wear it instead of keeping it in my sports bag.

Still the BEST!.......2007-11-20
I tried several other brands before came back to purchase this excellent HRM. I had an old Polar that displays only heart rate, more than 10 yrs old and still works, but I thought I want a little bit more.
The RS100 has a very good transmission range, unlike others that I couldn't even put it on my bike's handle bar. HRM functions are super simple, you don't need a degree in engineering to learn how to use it. The watch function is adequate. It is also a good looking watch, so you can use it for more than just working out. Buy it, you'll love it.
12/2/07: I am waiting for Polar support to get back with me. I had a maddening problem with this HRM. In time mode, all of a sudden, the watch shows the Polar logo on the top line instead of day of week and date. I read the manual no less than 10 times and wasted hours but could not switch it back. In 2 days, if I don't get an answer, it goes back to Amazon.

The Polar RS100 is solid. This is my second - lost the first one.
I use it for measuring my heart rate swimming, biking and cardio with workouts.
I have seen a significant athletic performance increase by working the three heart zones of 65%, 75% and 85%.
My wife also uses one for her marathon training.

I have had several Polar Heart Rate Monitors over the years and have even given them as gifts. I enjoy the ability to monitor my heart rate and stay within my Target Zone as well as set goals on the number of Calories that I burn. The more calories I burn the better I feel about eating a balanced diet and the odd treat. I have used for cycling, running, in the pool and for fun wear it on while driving on the Expressway to see how stressful those moments really are.

I am a running novice and had received advice from several more experienced runners to utilize a heart rate monitor for my training. I saw this model as a way for me to easily monitor my heart rate during training. It has been reliable and easy to use. I have even used it while swimming. I haven't used the computer upload feature yet. I recommend this product for other novices.

A great device for fitness motivation for a newcomer. Before, when I was running and rowing it was difficult to be sure of progress, now I see that, for the same heart rate, I am, week on week, increasing my pace and distance. Highly recommneded.
On the downside: I was cautious and bought the entry level model. Now, I would probably go for a model with some of the extra features. The Polar personal trainer website is interesting, but not great.

Good performance, easy interface........2007-12-27
I have been using this HR Monitor for about 6 weeks and I like it quite a bit. the interface is easy I haven't had any problems with the watch talking to the strap via a wireless connection, no interference or something like that. It tracks the work outs over time which is nice. Overall I would recommend this to a friend.
**Avoid RS 2000- Worst Runners Nightmare**.......2007-11-19
Have always been a fan of Polar products untill I bought the RS.
I have used for more than a year now the RS 200 and it has been a "nightmare" so far, with 3 times to warranty repair centers with out any solution and a lot of patience and time.
Apart from sync problems, the main issue is that the monitor freezes sudenly in the middle of your workout. And all previous and current data and workout information is lost. You have to start from day zero.
I wish the customer care service was better and did solve the problems, but they keep saying that they do not know what is happening. It is a shame for Polar company. I am looking for another brand right now.

This product works great and does everything that I need it to do. Only complaint is the display, I wish it would keep the display that you used the last time you worked out so I dont have to keep changing it. Workout records are little challenging to find all your information until you can remember where everything is within your workout report. Would like to get the foot pod if it wasnt so darn exspensive.

I found the product as described to be. One function unique is a VO2 calculation of fitness. Personal settings are more than basic and some are automatically recorded after performing fitness test if that option is selected. I was disappointed with workout history data as it is primarily designed for runners. I use a powerbike with varying stress periods and while various work zones are indicated it would be necesary to review other data to relate the graph to heart rate numbers. All in all it is a powerful fitness tool. I lost the transmitter while travelling and ordered another chest strap for $50. The monitor recognized the new coded transmitter with no problem. Accurate and I also noted that exercise equipment will pick up the transmitter and report out on excersize machines with heart rate info.
Low quality build and bad interface, but does what it says.......2007-08-24
My running store only carried the Polar brand so I went with this model. It does work, though it came with a battery that only had 5% left and I had to replace it. I design user interfaces for a living and a lot of watches are bad, but it has one of the worst user interfaces I have ever seen. The states and modes are confusing and the usage of the "screen" pixels is incredibly wasteful and confusing. The feel of the watch itself feels cheap and the buttons are flimsy. It does what it says, but using the feature set is complicated beyond the basic start running function. As with most products, the manual is just as confusing and poorly laid out. It IS accurate though and does what it says. I am much happier with my hiking watch from Highgear though.

Very pleased, and motivated!!.......2007-11-16
I have been using the rs200sd for a month now, and I can't be more satisfied with it, it's a running computer and I bought it to keep track of my heart beat during my runs, yet I use it for almost all the sports I play, I use it while playing tennis, soccer, badminton, and basketball and even during weight lifting.
At the end of each day, I use the weblink software to upload my exercise logs to the polar online personal trainer and write down notes and remarks. It acts as a diary of my exercises where I can see exactly what was happening during my activity from average heart beat to maximum, calories burnt, distance covered (if footpod was on), and compare with other exercises similar or different. Excellent way to monitor progress and set goals.
The footpod is a very nice feature, if you would like to keep track of distances covered whether in a morning jog or inside the court, and to keep a record online with the total distance and average speed. Out of the box it gave me 1.03KM during a 1.0KM lap, which quite close enough for me. For those who want an accurate +5m or -5m it can be calibrated easily. One thing for sure, it's barely noticeable weight-wise over the shoes lace.
For those that don't want to keep track of distances, the foot pod pushes the price $80 up. Without the foot the RS200 model is only $140. Yet you save $50 if you decide to got with RS200sd, instead of RS200 and wait then go for the footpod separately which is $130. Runners' main goal is distance I don't recommend this watch without the foot pod.
The wearlink strap is comfy, and can be easily adjusted. Easily washed, recommended to wash everyday of exercise.
Worth every cent, no regrets from my side. I would recommend it to any regular runner, yet it doesn't mean you won't be able to benefit from it during other exercises. If you're not a runner, Polar offers other product that may suit you better.

Lots of features, footpod calibration is a challenge for some.......2007-11-16
I bought the rs200sd to assist in my training efforts for the NYC Marathon. It certainly has a lot more interesting and useful features than the other timing equipment I have used in the past. I have to say that it definitely helped with my training.
Being able to switch the screen back and forth from elapsed time to heart rate, etc. and being able to easily record lap times is a plus. I used several features while training and running the marathon. The display is big enough that I could read it without difficulty even while running.
Other reviewers mentioned difficulties with synching the heart rate monitor watch with their computers; I too experienced this and admit that I gave up even trying.
Most annoying to me was that after many attempts, the footpod would not calibrate accurately (including track calibration efforts, hill and flats calibration efforts, etc.) Although there was a lack of precision in footpod calibration, in a "zen" kind of way, I could look at my pace while running and get a feel for my approximate speed and distance. However, in terms of accuracy, my rs200sd recorded that I ran 27.36 miles for the NYC Marathon!
I realize that some people have reported they had little difficulty with footpod calibration. It is possible that some of us have very inconsistent strides which may make it challenging for the footpod to calibrate. Thus, perhaps a GPS-based unit would work better. One last issue with the footpod: after 26.2 miles (or was it 27.36 miles?), it really became a nuisance on my foot. I felt it each step for the last several miles, something that I had not noticed on previous, shorter runs.

Very good product, easy for use e very accurate, the footpod works precisely and it is very comfortable for use. Watch has user frindely menus and it is easier to handle than older models.

Polar RS200sd hass the best cost-benefits relation for runners who want to improve their training and running quality. The distance measurement mechanism is very acurate (altough it requires more than one calibration adjustement) and is very simple to operate and transfer data to the computer.

Have used it since March 2007. Watch does basicly what it is suppose to do. Good features to price. BUT the online software is a JOKE. When it works it is basic at best, but trying to get the soniclink to actually upload your data from the watch is a real hit-n-miss proposition. It usually takes me about 4-8 tries to get the uplink software to let me get the exercise uploaded. It will take it and then give me an "errors in connection" message. Or just quite at the start with the same message. Then some times it just does not recognize the watch at all. There is an indicator that tells me it can "hear" the watch, but the software will not respond.
Try to contact customer support and they have consistantly blamed my end claiming "there is no problems on their end". What it seems to be is a crowded server, but they will not tell you this.
I work to hard to get the data in the watch to have to fight it to get to be able to analyze it. Also, if you are serious about your HR, get a different watch as this one does not take your rate in real time samples, only in averages ... so you cannot graph your HR in a minute by minute fashion. And it will not work with other software that does becasue it does not record the HR in a useable manner that other software programs can read.
For my money, I would look elsewhere .... If you are still interested, I got one for sale.
