So far I'm quite pleased with the performance of the Memorex CDRW drive. I've had some trouble with the supporting software (Nero) but I'll probably be able to work it out. One other problem is that the drive model is new enough that some other software does not support it, for example, Comcast Rhapsody does is not compatible with this drive. I've been able to patch together a "work around" this problem however.
Great Burner, Incredible Price!.......2006-07-04
This is a high quality burner which replaced a 7+ old HP that finally went out on me. I love the fact that it came with a black & a beige faceplate to match the color of my CPU. It was very easy to install if you are experienced w/ computer installations. Still, I don't think a novice would have a problem with the instructions. The Nero burner software is very simple to use & has other programs like for digital picture storage, even one where you can edit mp3 tracks. I'm very happy with the purchase.

This CD R/RW drive sounds better than the Samsung player that came with my HP Pavilion 793. Clearer, crisper. Installing was a snap. Pulled the old one, changed jumpers on the new one to match the old one, installed the new one. That was it. I did not use the software that came with it, nor did I install a new driver. Using MusicMatch 8.2 for playing, ripping music and burning CDs.
I previously replaced the original equipment DVD burner in this computer with a Memorex drive (DVD+/-RW True8XI) and I love that, too.
Note - Both still great 15 months later.

Very good for the price.......2005-04-21
I bought this from amazon yesterday as a replacement for my broken one (Sony, but a very old model) and got it delivered today. All I have to do was to was to remove the cover from my pc, remove the old drive and plug this in.
My first CD RW that I tried to burn using Media Player didnt burn properly, but I used Sonic Record Now and its amazing. It took less than 3 minutes to burn close to 75 minutes of songs and the audio quality is crystal clear - no static.
Please before you burn, set the write speed to 32x (or less depends on the CD RW media). Setting it to MAX is much faster, but at the end the CD is pretty much blank.
I rate 4 because I wanted to wait for 2 months and see how it performs.

Very, very easy to install!.......2007-04-28
I bought this cd rw to replace the one that came with my 3+ yr old computer. I simply took out the old one, used the same jumper settings, and placed this one into my computer. Upon startup the computer automatically recognized it and I was burning cd's within minutes. Excellent product and very easy to install!

I'm not well versed in computers, so I was hesitant about ordering a CD-RW drive that I would have to install myself. The Lite CD drive was inexpensive and probably could have installed itself it was so easy.
If you're looking for a low cost but easy to install CD-RW drive, I highly recommend the Lite-On SOHR-5239S-RET-B 52x Internal CD-RW Drive.

The most important feature that potential buyers ought to pay attention to is that the default speed is ONLY 40x. Each and every time you want 52x, you have to hold the eject button for 5 seconds. At first, this may sound like a real inconvenient pain.
Sony says this on their Product Information sheet: "On rare occasions, some discs may not be able to tolerate 52x speed, causing them to break. We recommend that you do not use deeply scratched, brittle, or other discs that may break at 52x speed."
As someone who has had an irreplaceable treasured disc shatter in a 52x CD drive, I greatly appreciate Sony setting up the drive speed in this manner.
Another surprising feature is that even though the Amazon product page shows this drive with an ivory faceplate, a black faceplate change-out kit is included. Never before have I seen a manufacturer do this for their customers.
The instructions and all other included documents are written in 12 languages.

I bought this dvd burner August 2007 from Amazon on the basis of these reviews. The burner worked fine, but then it stopped being able to work with any programs to burn disks. It will play media fine, but no longer record. It may be the device itself, but it also could be the software driver. When I went to download an updated driver, I found others online had the same problem with this Sony dvd burner that I did. And I found like they did, that Sony did not support the product with updated software drivers.
What I am saying is, before you buy a dvd player/burner make sure that the company supports their product by providing software drivers for it. I am looking for a new burner, and the next one I buy will be from a company that supports their products.

Besides working just great, this was easy to install. I know little about hardware and I was nervous opening the tower but I did it and had no problems.

I have several Sony products. Flat screen TV, VCR and so on. When shopping for a CD burner/dvd rom, as soon as I saw the name Sony I was half way sold. To me, Sony products are, and have allways been, quality. I have never regretted buying a Sony, what ever it is.
