very good with just one drawback..........2007-12-24
Maxell manufactures excellent 60 minute "XL2" cassette tapes for very good quality tape recordings of music as well as, of course, all purpose general recording. As long as you have the right kind of equipment, these tapes record the sounds of record albums, radio shows, CD-Rs, people talking and more. These tapes have 60 minutes worth of blank recording tapes on them so there are 30 blank minutes for recording on each side. The tape playback will work well in just about any tape deck including the one in your car.
The tapes allow you hours upon hours of listening enjoyment because you can record over them many times; and they take up very little room so they're easy to carry around with you.
Unfortunately, these tapes cannot produce the same quality recording reproduction as a digitalized copy would give you. This means that if, hypothetically, you were to copy a CD-R onto another CD-R instead of a Maxell "XL2" cassette tape, the quality of the sound on the CD-R copy would remain sharper and clearer with less background noise than a Maxell cassette tape or any other brand of cassette tape could give you. It's just not quite as good as a digitized CD-R recording. Moreover, cassette tapes can break if not handled with care. They can also break if used a few too many times, too. Therefore, I recommend that any important recorded material should be copied onto another blank tape and then keep that second tape in a safe place to use as a backup. These shortcomings frustrate me and therefore I will have to take off one star to make this a four star review.
Overall, Maxell makes the XL2 cassette tape to give us a great choice when we want reliable cassette tapes to record music at a high level of quality for a cassette tape. This cassette tape can be used to record other things, too, including lectures at school. I have used this brand for a while now and I cannot think of any major complaints. I highly recommend Maxell XL2 60 minute cassette tapes for you to use when you need to record something onto a tape--especially music.
Maxell's "XL2" will excel for you.......2007-07-03
As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent", a former radio disc-jockey, and a collector of music I am often asked to write and or discuss various tape products as well as recordings from the 60's and 70's.
The Maxell XL2 and XL2S have long been the standard for blank chrome tapes (Position 2). The long term reliability is superlative as well as the initial quality.
I have used thousands of Maxell tapes the past three decades plus and have never been disappointed with their audio tape or video.
In order to receive the optimum performances please keep the tape heads clean. If they are not regardless of the great product, you will hear a muddy sound on playback.
For music recording Maxell's chrome tape will surpass the harshest critic's expectations. If you are recording voice, only Maxell's Position 1 (Normal Bias) will be suitable for your needs.
Enjoy the music and be well,
Craig Fenton

The Best and Most Consistent Blank Audio Cassettes.......2007-02-10
I prefer Audio Cassette Tape Recording over CD recordings. I find the sound to be richer, more dynamic and much more consistent over homemade CD recordings. I always preferred 60 minute blank tapes over 90 and 100 minute Capsule tapes. I have always used Maxells. The 60-Minute High Bias Type II is the best. I have recordings I made in 1987 of THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS soundtrack and of a-ha's first album and they sound excellent to this day. The Pack of Five is a good value all around.
Maxell blank audio tapes are great........2004-08-17
First off, any idiot who uses these fine blank music quality cassetts for speech recording, as is suggested in the lame desctiption, deserves to pay so much. Setiously, I have used these tapes for years to record music and I am still listening to some I had recorded over 15 years ago. I can't say I have ever had a "lemon" tape; all have been up to the highest performance. P.S.: If you are looking for speech or "normal" bias tapes, go for the Maxell UR tapes.
Product Description
A superior quality audiotape, CD-IT is best for recording music from CDs. Specifically designed to deliver CD-quality sound, it offers exceptional high-bias performance. A rigid ultrasonically welded shell resists vibration and reduces modulation noise. The tape is available in popular CD recording lengths of 74-, 90- and 120-minutes. The unique slide-case design allows for fast and easy retrieval from the case.

Superb Even For High Intensity Cds.......2006-07-31
Normal bias audio cassettes are easy enough to find. It seems the high quality audio tapes are mostly found right now in 'you name it, we got it' places. (Such as F.Y.E.) People have gotten into the habit of bringing cds everywhere, despite the recently found danger of cd rot. But it does seem that the 'unseen hand' is keeping audio cassettes alive. Most cd players have a cassette deck in them, and even dual cassette decks are not hard to find. In addition, car stereos with both the cd AND cassette are becoming more popular. I suspect that the reason high quality cassettes are harder to find right now is because music does not really have the fidelity it used to. (It would make sense seeing that normal bias audio tapes are still quite easy to find. Even Shoprite and other supermarkets have them. And if the cd is not so intese, it will actually transfer well onto a normal bias audio tape.) Well, if you follow my reviews, you know that I think it is much safer for one to make copies of cds. (Heat and moisture rot the cd and render it unusable.) As far as these tapes go, even if you are using them to record intense cds such as King Diamond's, these tapes are superb. Think about it. Doesn't it make more sense to make an extra copy of the cd and use it, rather than risk losing the original copy to cd rot?

Customer Reviews:
Virtually a Travel Friendly CD.......2006-06-11
This audio tape is great for recording even the most intense and powerful cds from the 80s. Of course, if you are listeing for it, you can probably tell the difference between the cd and the audio tape. However, the VERY SLIGHT difference is easy to tolerate considering the fact that by using tapes when you travel, you are protecting your cds from cd rot. For those of you who don't know about cd rot, it is caused by heat and moisture. Basically what happens is that heat and moisture corrode the cd. It turns the cd purple and renders it unreadable. In extreme cases, tiny holes are also present. The best way to combat cd rot is to keep your cds in a cool dry place. (A drawer if possible.) Keep your cds safe, and use this great audio tape to make travel friendly copies.
