Cheap but slow........2008-01-01
Don't expect to quickly put data onto this device.
SLOWWWW transfer to but NOT from.
Data comes off super quick.
Affordable but SLOW!
Works like a charm.......2007-12-07
I've had my Kingston drive for quite a while now and haven't hit a problem yet with it. It's hard plastic casing is sturdy enough for carrying around in your pocket (with keys and change and all that stuff) with no ill affects. Really the highest praise you can give a USB flash drive is that it's fast and reliable. This one has been both for me.
Good Product.......2007-12-03
Works perfectly, in my experience Kingston flash devices never fail, so any flash device from this brand will last a long time.
You get what you pay for.......2007-05-13
I was looking for a cheap thumb drive and I found this one advertised for only about $7. But when I went to place the order there was about $8 shipping, for standard USPS ground! $15 dollars is still a great deal, but I've paid less than half that much in shipping on books that weigh tens times as much as a tiny thumb drive. I haven't had any problems with it on Macs. But it seems like about half the PC's I've put it in don't read it. It didn't come with software because it's supposed to be plug and play. I guess you get what you pay for.
nice!.......2007-05-07
what a deal with this thumb stick! works perfectly fine, just plug and play. cant beat the price!

Store'n'Go USB Drive 1GB.......2007-04-04
This is my second Verbatim Store'n'Go device and it probably won't be my last. Verbatim is totally reliable and it's compact size is perfect for my ultra-portable Fujitsu laptop.
Love it!.......2007-03-21
My boss bought me this for work, and normally I like to be able to pick out my own computer stuff, but this drive is exactly what I would have picked out myself.
What I like:
-Slim form factor, will easily fit into stacked USB slots with other devices plugged in.
-Simple clean design, and the red is a bonus!
-Rubberized finish feels good to the touch. (Seriously, I can't stop playing with it. Okay, I'm weird.)
-The cap fits on it while in use!
-Decent write/read speeds.
-Several options for attaching it to stuff. There's a mini-lanyard which you can attach to the larger one, or a lobster claw clasp that you can use to attach it to a keyring/whatever. The mini-lanyard attaches on the side, which allows the cap to fit on the device. You can also clip it to the larger ring on the device, but then you can't put the cap on. (TIP: The mini-lanyard is really hard to get on. I tied a loop of dental floss through the lanyard, and then fed the dental floss through the opening and pulled the mini-lanyard cord through. Worked instantly and saved me some frustration.)
Included in the package:
-Black lanyard with "verbatim" printed on it. (Decidedly dorky as a fashion accessory, but good for people like me that will forget to bring it to work unless it's physically attached to you.)
-Lobster Claw clasp.
-Mini lanyard to attach it to the bigger one or the lobster claw.
-Blank Labels - there is a small indentation on the back of the device to put a label. Nice idea, but I will probably never use them.
I like this model so much that I am going to purchase one to use at home.
I have only good things to write about this drive.......2006-12-23
What can I say? It's a great drive, reliable, fast, thin enough to fit into a very tight space, runs on Windows (98SE and up), Mac and Linux systems, and comes with a nice lanyard. I've seen similar quality lanyards at camera stores retail for almost $10. The protective cap slips on the other end when you're using it. The metal side makes it feel less flimsy and cheap than other USB drives. It has a limited lifetime warranty (whatever that is). And it doesn't come preloaded with the U3 Launchpad. Not too crazy about the bright red color, but that was not a deal breaker.

Had for Years - Never A Problem.......2007-08-23
I've had the 256 bit Swissbit flash/jump drive for years with never a problem (hope they don't start now). Very durable and functional (especially with all the accessories -- scissors, pen, knife, nail file, screw driver, light, etc.). Maybe those guys with the bad ones unfortunately received a lemon, but mine is great and has been working over the past going on three years.
Great under heavy use.......2007-03-23
I've had my Swissbit for about two-and-a-half years. I always have it with me for little data emergencies and use it to store freelance projects. It's my the third flash drive I've owned, and although it cost a little more, it has held up so much better. I never had data problems, but the housings for my other drives (One was a Sony and the other was a no-name brand) eventually cracked and fell apart. Not so with the Swissbit. Plus it's incredibly handy to have a pocketknife with me. I've used all the tools at one time or another. No problems, and I use it almost every day on both my Mac and my work PC. Highly recommended and also a lot of fun. The fact that you can pop the flash and leave the knife at home when you fly is a bonus.
disc not readable.......2007-02-01
the disc was never readable or mountable on my powerbook g4 running 10.4.8
swissbit support finally emailed me a disc repair software tool but the disc again was unreadable whenever connected to any computer. the best solution swissbit could provide was to Please mail or call Victorinox for further instructions.
hopefully Victorinox will do better and replace it with a working device. very unhappy with this product and it seems I am not alone
Where to begin.......2005-12-16
My first impression of the Swiss Bit was all positive. I had been searching for a key ring flash drive and was happy to find that Swiss Bit had incorporated one into a handy tool. Size is great and the convenience of always having my flash drive on hand was awesome. It is constructed very well and I never felt like I was going to break the drive when detaching it from the tool.
I had absolutely no problems with my Swiss Bit for about five months- transfer rates were good and it was always recognized in whatever computer I put it in. One day though, I put the drive in a computer and a dialog box came up that said that there was an error reading the drive. I tried it in another computer and the same thing happened. The drive was completely dead. It could not be read in anything and I couldn't even format it. All my data was lost. Swiss Bit emailed me a software program to fix the problem but even though it fixed the problem of computers not seeing it, the drive began to fail constantly. Not something you want to happen if you have valuable data on your drive.
So maybe it was just me. Maybe I had done something wrong. Thinking that and almost needing my Swiss Bit by now, I purchased a new one. Well, two months in, the same thing happened. Again, I lost all data and now I have a 120 Swiss Army pocket knife.
My suggestion is to wait till the next generation Swiss Bit. Maybe whatever the problem is will be fixed by then.
FANTASTIC tool -- highly recommend!.......2005-12-03
I got the 128mb version as a birthday gift a year ago, and have found it indispensible ever since. Recently upgraded to the 1Gb and love it! The tools are useful and durable -- the light and pen on my old one still haven't worn out. Usb drive great, 2.0 very nice and speedy. The knife body provides a nice, protective cover for the chip as well.
The usb stick detaches from the knife as well, in case you want to take it on the plane, or just plug it into your computer without having the whole keychain dangling there.
This is an excellent gift for gadget-lovers, or pretty much anyone who carries these items (knife, usb drive) around separately and banging around on a keychain.

Customer Reviews:
a okay thumb drive.......2007-01-04
well it works really well i have had few problems. just a few times i pulled it out instead of turning it off. bad move on my part and it will give you error messages after words for a few days. on some pcs it is very slow to load i have mine password protected the screen can take a whole minute to load on a very slow pc on a fast pc it can take a few seconds to a minute i have had it take 30 seconds to load the password screen and this is on a pc build by a friend and no cheap pc at all. drive is slow at times but that is just starting up once it is going it is fast and easy to use. one major problem it says on the box that it works with Linux and mac. well i tried to port some files from my mac to my pc well the mac reads the u3 part but not the part to store files. i have taken music files even high quality movies takes up more than half the drive but it works between pcs very well. but i cant get my files off my mac i don't no if i need to change something. the u3 smart makes things easy when you go use a random pc got Firefox got trillian and skyp every thing i need to get work done. this drive when i lose my internet i go to the library use there pc to chat with my friends and use mingo to make the pc look like the one at home from background to theme you use on your pc classic or xp. but overall i love this thing works like a laptop almost with very little space for files.
Very Happy With It.......2006-08-26
This is my third flash drive in as many months and finally I have found a drive I love. The design is very nice, the case is not too flimsy as some other brands are, and the cap is built to stay on, which is always a nice thing these days with these drives. The cap also fits on the back of the device while it is in use. It comes with a sheet of labels to use as well, which is handy. The keychain attachment is on the drive itself, which is good in case the cap pops off (I do not think it will on the model though) I will not lose the drive and be left with the dangling cap. It also has a large enough attachment for an actual key ring (opposed to one with only room for a tiny cord).
I really was not sure about the U3 when I bought it, but figured if I did not like it I did not have to use it. Well I really like it. It is so easy to use and set up, I have had no problems running it on my desktop at work or laptop at home (running windows pro and windows home respectively). I find the write speed to be fast (maybe not the fastest on the market, but it goes just as fast of the other 2 drives I had and fast enough for my needs). After 2 disappointing drives from top companies, I really am happy with this drive and wished this was the first I had purchased and I would have saved myself the money I spent on the others!
Slick password protection and auto-antivirus, promising platform.......2006-05-03
Need a new USB flash drive, and primarily use a Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP system (i.e., don't use Macintosh or Linux)? The Verbatim U3 Smart Drive combines data storage and a portable applications platform into one device, and provides two features that make it immediately worthy of consideration: slick password-protected access to the U3 drive, and auto-run anti-virus.
On Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, and above systems, the Verbatim U3 Smart Drive shows up as two drives: a 4-megabyte CD-ROM drive containing the U3 software platform, and a USB data storage device with 927-megabytes of available storage space. When the U3 Smart Drive is inserted into a computer, the CD-ROM portion starts the U3 Launchpad first. When password protection is enabled, the password must be correctly entered to activate the data storage portion of the drive. Otherwise, the computer reports that the data storage portion of the drive is unavailable. Verbatim's U3 Smart Drive comes with McAfee Anti-Virus, which automatically scans active processes then the Smart Drive itself when the drive is inserted into a computer. This ensures that one's data will be virus-free anywhere one chooses to use this USB flash drive.
The U3 portable applications platform enables compliant software to be installed on and run directly from the USB flash drive itself, eliminating the necessity to install them on a computer. People looking for flexibility to run utilities not provided in a controlled computing environment, such as in corporate or university settings or at a public access terminal, will appreciate this capability. For example, users whose corporate networks only support Internet Explorer can instead choose to run Mozilla's Firefox web browser from their U3 Smart Drive. The U3 website lists available U3 compliant applications, utilities, and games; some are free; most others must be purchased. Having U3-compliant versions of Firefox and McAfee Anti-Virus on my U3 flash drive has been quite convenient for me (though I am annoyed that Firefox U3's homepage is stuck at YourBrainz).
Overall, the U3 platform experience is not as seamless as it should be, in part because of its youth, but also because of inherent design issues in the Microsoft Windows operating system. If the drive is inserted before the computer is powered on, the U3 Launchpad software must be manually run to activate the data storage portion of the drive when password protection is enabled. Some U3 applications are dependent on the features that may be absent from the host operating system. For example, Anonymizer for U3 currently requires that Microsoft's .NET Framework 1.1, typically an optional download, be installed on the host computer. Other applications may require user expertise to either determine whether a host network allows (or blocks) program traffic, such as instant messaging and Skype; or to perform proxy configuration. U3's marketed ability to deliver a portable, private and protected computing environment is still very dependent on both the host computing environment and the user's technology expertise.
The Verbatim U3 Smart Drive's average sustained write speeds are somewhat slow. It took me over three-and-a-half minutes to transfer a 698.8 MB file for an average sustained write speed of approximately 3.2 MB/s. Consider a faster USB flash drive if you regularly use such large files or large numbers of files. I think Verbatim's U3 Smart Drive performs adequately for most people, who commonly transfer few or smaller files - here, transfer time is unnoticeable. Read speeds are acceptable; I've had no problems viewing movies from the U3 Smart Drive.
If you are able to find Verbatim's U3 Smart Drive for a few dollars more than a typical USB flash drive that offers data storage only, buy it. Verbatim's U3 Smart Drive's password protection, anti-virus, and ability to run sophisticated portable programs are worth a small premium.
I like it!.......2006-04-17
Sorry I cannot add technical data about transfer speeds. I have purchased more USB drives than I'll admit to and all I know is I like this one. Why? Because of the U3 software it comes with. The U3 platform really makes it easy to keep your data private, as well as running some programs designed just for it (like a U3 version of Firefox). While this Verbatim U3 Smart drive is larger than some USB's (like the SanDisk Micro), it is very light. I look forward to Verbatim introducing other models (2GB, etc.).
Elegant.......2005-11-24
I love this little thumb drive, I use it every day. Read/write speed is acceptable, even on my ancient P3-600. I compared the transfer rates of the Verbatim vs my Lexar JumpDrive, both took the exact same time to copy a large 500 MB CD image to/from my hard drive. I'm no computer engineer, I bought this drive because of the U3 Launchpad, not because of published transfer rates.
What enthused me about this drive is the U3 Launchpad. USB thumb drives have been around for a few years and, although you can run some applications, it is not always easy. The U3 Launchpad makes it simple to run *my* applications with *my* data on any Windows 2000 or XP PC. U3 puts the *Personal* back in my PC. And the icing on the cake is, when this thumb drive is ejected, the U3 Launchpad cleans out any lingering personal data on the host machine. U3 makes portable, fast, secure, private computing easy.
Although U3 applications are limited as of this writing, software developers are starting to jump on the U3 bandwagon. I currently run Firefox, Trillian, Coolplayer and EssentialPIM from this drive. A U3 version of OpenOffice is also in the works, which, when available, will complete my little PC-in-a-thumb.

Customer Reviews:
OK, but not much more........2007-10-17
This product works ok...When it works. Mine died for seemingly no reason, but luckly I contacted the company and they sent me a fresh one for free.
Still this is a cheap drive, but if I were you, I'd spend alittle more on a better one. Buy a Lexar brand one instead...I have a really old Lexar drive that I've never had problems with.
By the way, I tested this drive on Freespire Linux and it works great.
NOT compatible with Linux -- one insert & it's ruined.......2006-07-10
They lie about linux compatibility. Once you put it into a Linux computer, it won't work anywhere else either. Can't format or anything.
So if you even THINK you're going near a Linux computer, don't get it.
(Tested with Fedora Core 5. Lexar, CompUSA & Emprex brands seem to work OK.)
