Just what I was hoping for.......2007-08-24
I'm impressed with this little thing. The case is well-made and has a very solid feel. The Nano fits perfectly into the skin and into the MiniBlaster. I didn't have difficulties with the fit like others mentioned. Getting the Nano out takes some pushing, but that's the way it should be. You don't want it falling out on it's own and hitting the pavement. All the Nano controls are accessible. The front, circular control (volume/scroll) works fine through a silicon skin and is very protected.
The reason we buy this thing is for sound and size. Size and weight are impressively minimal. You won't beat that anywhere. As for sound, it's not a home entertainment center or a Bose IPod system - it's a tiny little device that offers maximum portability. If you can bring your Bose system along with you, then do it. If you need something small and more portable, then read on.
The sound has a distinct clarity. Mids to highs are crisp and well separated. What you loose is bass. It's attenuated, but not dull or muddy. I wasn't expecting strong bass with a frequency response of 450Hz to 20KHz. It's not built for it and shouldn't be expected.
It's made, as others have said, for you and a couple of friends in an environment without too much ambient noise. If you are looking for a system that you can play at a beech party with a big group of friends, keep looking, because this isn't it. Too many voices chatting away will drown this little thing out.
In a reasonably quiet room or out on the trail, you get enough volume to really enjoy the music. It's loud enough to hear the detail in the sound. It even gets too loud for conversations and has to be turned down. Don't get me wrong, the neighbors won't be calling or stomping on the floor. It has what it needs to fill the niche that it's designed for.
I personally like the sound with the EQ set to "Small Speakers" - seems like a good balance for Classic Rock which I tend to listen to the most.
If you want a small, light and very portable speaker system to free you from headphones and make portable music a social experience between friends again, then you are onto something.
Enjoy!
Great for use while traveling.......2007-08-11
I wanted to be able to listen to podcasts and my own music while commuting and so first purchased (for $80) an FM converter that plugged into the lighter and my iPod and then matched an unused frequency to play what was on the iPod. The sound wasn't great and it changed depending on where I was driving. I spent a lot of time trying to find the right static frequency and match it with the device. In the short time that I tried it out I had to switch frequencies twice.
So, I looked for a speaker. I decided that it wouldn't be a disaster to buy something at this price to try even if it didn't work great. It was what I was looking for! I can use it in the car and also other places where I want to play what is on my ipod so that others can hear. It is not great sound quality, but it is much better than what I was getting with the FM converter and much easier. I can either use batteries or the AC adaptor (I already have a device that converts the cigarette lighter into AC power).
It is a great solution for what I was looking for.
Good Product.......2007-07-26
I recommend this product over similar products that are outrageously expensive. Powerful sound for it's size and easy to use. Great value.
Wow, under 15 bucks including shipping!.......2007-07-04
Don't expect too much bass out of -any- tiny speakers but as a way to turn your nano into a sort of 21st century "transistor radio" equivalent with stereo audio and a better sound quality, this little thing is superb. Talk radio podcasts are delivered very clearly and music can be enjoyed to an extent especially if you choose an appropriate EQ setting on your nano. Volume capability is decent, just don't expect to entertain an audience bigger than about two or three. Battery life is good for the 4x AAA batteries.
JLab Audio.......2007-06-08
The sound is good from the Miniblaster, but getting my Ipod in and out of it is a real chore!! It is very difficult to do. It not only is very hard to place in the miniblaster, but getting it out is even worse. I like the size of it as it doesn't take up a lot of room when I place it on the counter. Just difficult to use. It is also hard to adjust the volume with the "skin" on it.

Great sound quality for such a tiny package.......2007-11-05
I bought the miniblaster portable speaker in December 2006. I was amazed at the quality of the sound for such tiny speakers. Now, almost one year later, the speakers are still going strong. If you are looking for good quality pocket size speakers, these are a good choice.
A Great iPod Speaker........2007-08-08
It is tiny, compact (no wiggley parts to break off) it runs on batteries as well as AC and I am completely delighted with it.JLab Audio MBBG1 Miniblaster Portable Speaker for iPod Nano (Gen 1) - Black
STOP THINKING AND BUY IT.......2007-07-28
Best bang for the buck...i read all the reviews. just buy it. you can't beat $15 shipped. it gets the job done.
Excellent Company.......2007-06-11
My 11 year old daughter saved her $$ and did some on line research and ended up buying these. She loved them for the size which allowed her to take them into bed, on the bus etc. The audio in my opinion was "OK", but she was very happy.
We had bought them along with their noise reducing ear buds which I use while traveling in planes. I can wear them x- country very comfortably
Unfortunately we had technical problems and contacted JBL. I happened to email them on a Sunday afternoon and in about 15 minutes a real person (Josh) responded. A real person.... on a Sunday!!
He resolved the issue- which ultimately required a warranty replacement.
I cannot say enough good things about this company and Josh. I woudl buy their products again without hesitation
What a disappointment........2007-05-26
On my first foray into looking for the perfect mini speaker for my Ipod, I bought the Aiptek Mist for Nano (not realizing it only works with Gen 2 Nano)---boy, was it a cute little thing. Disappointed they don't make that product for Gen 1 Nanos, I searched Amazon for the perfect replacement mini speaker that would work with my Nano Gen 1. The JLab Miniblaster had 4 stars. Folks, speak up, because I cannot be the only one who was shocked by the low quality of this product!!
*When I first plugged it in, you couldn't hear anything because of interference from my TV remote!
*When I finally heard sound it was fuzzy at best and never got much better
*The volume level is only a smidgen better than what I can hear through my earbuds when they are out of my ears!
I read and re-read the direction and am convinced I did everything properly. I even tried it with battery power only, in the house, out of the house. No luck. This is a lousy product and I am giving it one star. This is being shipped back today.

Fantastic Sound, But Not For Everyone.......2007-10-12
The biggest flaw for all earbuds, from the super-expensive Bose to the affordable Phillips or Sony brands, is that they're marketed as one-size fits all, one-sound fits all.
I've purchased nearly a dozen different earbuds in the past two years (Sony, Koss, Phillips, iPod, EarHugger, Plantronics, and more), trying to find the right combination of comfort and sound. Not everyone's ears are the same size, and not everyone likes bass-heavy or treble-heavy sound. Each pair I bought sounds and fits completely different.
The ones that work for me are these Phillips earbuds, and the EarHugger Platinum Series/Air Cushion (#EH-1260AC) the sound quality is a bull's-eye for the music I listen to. Guitars are front and center, and the vocals, bass, drums and other instruments sound big and completely balanced. Not tinny, not drowning in bass, but great clarity and full separation. They also don't fall out of my ears easily.
That is not to say that they will work for everyone. I guarantee they won't fit everyone's ears, and they won't hit everyone's perfect target sound.
Both pairs cost around $20, which convinces me that earbuds are an entirely subjective purchase. Just because you pay $100+ for a pair of earbuds doesn't mean you're automatically going to get a higher-quality listening experience.
It's a different story for large, over-the-ear headphones, like the Sony MDR-7506 (easily the best sounding headphones for the price), you almost always get what you pay for.
So to sum up, I love these Phillips earbuds, and the price is a steal, but I wouldn't argue with someone who doesn't like them. It's the nature of the earbud beast...
Very good headphones.......2007-10-10
I have been very happy with these headphones. These fit my ears perfectly, and have great sound for ear buds. I don't know if these other people are trying to compare these to studio headphones, but these are the best earbuds I've ever owned, and have lasted me well over a year. For the price, a great buy.
Wasting money.......2007-09-20
I can't even walk down the street in these without them falling out of my ears. No matter how hard I jam them in there, or how many different ways I try to move them around they don't fit in my ear
poor sound.......2007-09-11
The rubber inserts broke after a couple months. The real stinker is that they never sounded good anyway. The sound is "airey" and they are quite loud, but lack bottom end in a big way. I've used probably a dozen earbuds over my life and these sounded the worst. Sound is a relative thing, but I'd look on if you're considering these buds.
review.......2007-08-31
these phones are good. They stay in your ears and the sound is fine. phones are like sunlgasses you always loose them so it's good to stick with cheap ones that get the job done.

Brookstone Surround Sound Earbuds.......2007-09-27
Excellent sound, stay in place, very comfortable, light weight. This is the third style that I have had and they are by far the best. They were also less expensive than many others.
Not worth the price,,,.......2007-08-30
I read some good reviews of this product and was very adamant to try it.
I received them and was very dissapointed with the initial sound of them. Almost at par with the basic iPod headphones, but there is some static, which becomes rather annoying. Also, only having them now for a few weeks, the chord is already frayed at the bottom! Causing reduced play quality. The only good thing about these is the comfort. You can wear them for hours without aching at all, but it is definitely not worth the 42 dollars spent after shipping and handling!
Nice earbuds, but nothing mindblowing.......2007-08-16
They're lightweight and pretty comfortable, allthough in my ears they're still prone to falling off if the cord is tugged. The sound is good, but I dont know what "surround sound" headphones is supposed to mean because...well they're headphones. When you have speakers strapped to your ears there's only so many places sound can come from. Good headphones, but not groundbreaking ones.
Brookstone - a terrible vendor!.......2007-08-06
These earbuds were terrible. The earbuds that come with your IPod are easily as good as this product. When I tried to return them, Brookstone refused to take them back (considered a "personal item") and claimed the policy is written on the item's packaging and bill of shipping....where it clearly is not written on either!
Thank God for Amazon's A-Z Guarantee. I filed my claim with Amazon and they refunded me within a few days. I've always been a loyal Amazon customer, but the attention to customer service has won me over anew!
Good sound... in quiet places.......2007-08-03
Surround Sound Earbuds
These earphones fit comfortably with their over-the-ear design. They sound very good for their size and are reasonably stylish. The main drawback, for me, is that you can hear outside noises CLEARLY, because they rest over your ears. They don't form any kind of seal to block out noise. I used them while working out and they were ok, but I could hear everything else in the room, too. They would probably be great if you only used them at home in a quiet room.

Amazon.com Product Description
An ideal complement to portable DVD players and laptops with built-in DVD drives, this pair of ear-bud surround sound headphones simulates the home theater experience whether you're listening privately on a plane, in a hotel room, or even at the park. Each bud features a single 15 mm neodymium speaker driver with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz. But when combined, the buds incorporate Philips' patented virtual surround technology to create a rich, multichannel-like environment. Though it's not true surround sound, it's as close as a listener will get through a two-channel source, especially one that fits comfortably inside the ear canals. The buds come with a flexible, molded-rubber carrying case, along with a 3.9-foot cord that should be long enough for most applications. The cord's flexi-grip end connection lithely responds to rough handling, while its 24k gold-plated plug ensures the best possible signal transfer for a better overall sound.
What's in the Box
HE592 ear buds, 3.9-foot cord, rubber carrying case, user's manual.

Not the best out there.......2007-12-12
My one and only complaint is that they fall out. You can in now way force these giant things into your ear canal. They pop out and dont fit right. The sound was good the fit was not.

Good sound quality, dysfunctional and oddly unique headphones, NOT recommended........2007-09-21
I've had these headphones for about a year now. The cord and earbuds are still in good condition, except the connector thing is slightly jagged so I have to put it in slightly weird. I am impressed by the sound quality. Everything is so vibrant. It takes a while to get used to the sound, the sound may not be what the typical person is used to. Don't be fooled by "virtual surround sound." I think it's just a fancy name. My biggest concern is the comfort. The rubber ear plug things that attach to the heads are dysfunctional, so I wear the headphones without it, except they heads are so large it takes a while to find that snug place. The edge of the head is hard and rubs against the side of the ear. I like how the headphones wrap around the side and behind the neck, they tend to get less in the way unless you're sharing one ear with another person.
I don't use my Philips headphones anymore. They are broken and they weren't too comfortable to begin with. I do not recommend these headphones.
Worst Headphones Ever.......2007-06-25
If you, painfully, jam the Philips HE592 Surround Sound Ear Buds in your ear well enough to use them, (until they fall out) they don't sound bad.
Philips may have been testing a new torture device, when they came up with these ear buds.
The main cable divides (as usual) into the right and left sides. However with the Philips HE592 Surround Sound Ear Buds the cables are thin / whimpy and one is much longer than the other. It Does Not Work, to have one side longer than the other. I guess they figured it would be better to have all the weight of the main cable to be on one side (hanging on one uncomfortable ear bud) and have the longer ear bud wrap it's thin / whimpy cable around your head.
Another horrible idea that Philips had was to make the plastic part that goes in your ear canal a perfect cylinder. (Your ear canal is not a cylinder.) The part also has a 90 deg edge on it. So, although the part is covered in a plastic/rubber piece, the headphones hurt and will not stay in your ear, No Matter What. They fall out constantly. (Even when you're just sitting there.)
Horrible. Horrible. Horrible.
Ridiculously uncomfortable, and bad sound.......2007-06-18
Steer clear of these terrible earphones.
They have to be the most uncomfortable I have ever used. I can't use them for more than 20 minutes without my ears aching. That's if they manage to stay in that long - any slight movement and they fall out. The large round silver part prevents them from fitting into the ears properly. What size ears are they made for?
The sound quality is mediocre, and the case is impossible to figure out! How this terrible product ever got past QA and into production I will never know
I've had them 2 days and I'm going to try as hard as I can to get my money back. My ears are sore!
