Easy 1-touch dubbing with 2x speed from Hard Disk Drive to DVD
Customer Reviews:
Extremely versatile camcorder.......2008-01-01
This camcorder does it all! You no longer have to carry mini-DVD discs. Record everything to the built-in hard drive (upto 11 hours on the 30 GB version). Dubbing to a mini-DVD disc is then a cinch. Or, you can connect and record it to your DVD recorder. Even with the hard drive, the camcorder is very light and easy to handle. Be sure to buy the 3-hr long-life battery to go with the recording capacity on the hard drive.
Very unhappy with DZHS500A..........2007-12-31
I actually tried twice to like this camcorder, both times after only a weekend's worth of use, it would not power on. Thankfully Amazon accepts replacement/returns...glad I bought it here. Anyway, the first one I ran by the Hitachi repair shop, and they told me I was blowing fuses. I thought it a fluke, perhaps not, as the replacement did the identical thing. Hitachi would not work with me, so I am shopping for something different, probably Sony.
Hybrid camcoder at affrodable price.......2007-12-25
Hitachi hybrid cam coder is good. only thing that it does not give good
pictures in house with less light. Else its ok. easy to use. had 30G hard disk and DVDs so you can store video on both.
Excellent Hybrid.......2007-11-16
This is the best camcorder I ever used. Having used JVC, Sanyo, Canon and Panasonic. This DZ-HS500A hybrid is terrific. I just finished recording 1 hours, inside of a Karate Promotion event. Currently I am editing it (free software included is OK, but need to improve on this) and producing DVD's. Clarity in XTRA fine mode is first rate. I have tested in very low light and it can be a little grainy, but tolerable. Outside it is terrific as well. The only thing a recommend with this or any other Camcorder is READ THE MANUAL! It will help you be successful in your work.
Pros: 11 hours of recording time on harddrive, excellent LCD panel, Light weight, burning DVD's is a snape from it's harddrive, sound is accpetable, menu's easy to use and intuative, formating DVD's is a snap, selecting and using manual controls is excellent, and positioning of controls is very good.
Cons: No built in light, and mini-DVD is only 30 mins. Not a problem though I have a DVD burner and can burn on standard DVDs.
Don't over look this wonderful camcorder. It is worth the money.
Nice Camcorder.......2007-08-21
Every single camcorder out there has its Pros and Cons. There is not 1 perfect one out there. The HD cams have a crappy 10X zoom and you can't edit it on your PC. Generally speaking, I love this camera.
Pros:
- Photo Grab feature is awesome. Grab a photo from any frame in your videos.
- Hybrid functionally is awesome
- 30X zoom is incredible
- Sound is now Dolby Digital - very nice (On the 300A its not good)
- Video quality for the most part is excellent. (Except night)
- You can attach different lenses or filters. Nice!
- Price is right. Buy online! No need to buy a DVD burner with this model!
- Fast Sleep button works well. Disc naviagtion is easy.
Cons:
- 640K stills is below average. (Most camcorders out there also all stink in this category.)
- Sucks at night or low light - Forget it - (However I think most camcorders also stink in this category.
- Editing In-Camcorder fairly basic (I understand why though, most camcorders don't have the processing power)
- Buttons can take a little longer to get used to. Not bad though.
Its better than most of the camcorders out there. Its also the only Hybrid. Buy it.
PS - Pay attention people - Only 1/3 of the manual is in English, its not that big!

Customer Reviews:
Perfect storage option, comparatively expensive though........2007-07-13
I replaced a Toshiba 16MB buffer 40GB harddrive with this one. This is the best product out there when compared with Seagate, Western Digital, Fujitsu or Toshiba.
- best 7200 rpm drive
- faster seek times and less latency
- installing is a snap
- comparitively less louder
- loads Photoshop much faster... and boots my laptop faster as well
- I was worried about more power consumption and heat due to higer RPM of this drive, but haven't noticed any of that.
All in all, you could buy a Fujitsu (noisy, slower) for $90+ taxes but this is definitely worth it for the extra bucks.
Two Failures In 6 Months.......2007-07-10
I'm on my second replacement drive. There are comparable products for a similar price, buy those instead. If you're unlucky enough to already own one of these, make sure you back up often.
No Problems Yet.......2007-05-15
I've not had any issues with the drive yet. This drive was intended to be used as a pocket drive, and I must say that i've had more problems finding a decent enclosure than anything else. But i'm satisfied with my solution, and i'm satisfied with the drive.
Excelente producto!!.......2007-04-11
Compre este disco duro para mejorar la capacidad del que tenia de 60gb de la misma marca, y me ha parecido una excelente compra este hitachi travelstar.
Lo recomiendo.
Increasing performance.......2007-04-08
Replacing old hard driver 40GB 5400RPM with this. it's speed increases than before. The noise is not lound like some one complaints about. If you don't need a larger space. It's good choice.

Like magic, this cushy little device holds tight even when you turn corners or come to a quick stop, keeping your phone and other small items from sliding off the dashboard. A uniquely formulated, expanded-vinyl pad conforms to any dashboard to secure your cell, digital, or wireless phone without straps, clips or sticky residue.
Customer Reviews:
Great Mate.......2007-12-17
If you have ever had your cell phone under your seat ringing, then you need this. I was given a sample at a conference and was hooked. This simple mat is one of the best things for drivers and cell phones and more. Just place it on the flat part of your dash, put you phone on it and you can turn all the corners you want the phone stays put. It is also great for coins for toll roads. Just lay out you coins and you are ready. I bought one for each of my employees.
Handsstands Sticky Pads are the bomb! (Great!).......2007-02-21
I picked up one of these at a local Target and was so pleased I purchased two more, online, for my wife's dashboard, which has a "shelf" for holding more stuff than my curved dash which currently only holds my cell phone. She needs lots of help organizing and maintain her "stuff" and this will be very useful in that capacity.

Customer Reviews:
Works great but too noisy.......2007-11-29
The drive is wonderfully large, fast, and so far, very reliable. However, it can, at times, be extremely noisy as it seeks and writes. Despite being placed in an insulated enclosure, I can hear it working in the next room. I am using it as an external DVR drive and thus the noise is often irritating.
This is a great Terabyte drive, but note potential compatibility issues.......2007-05-26
This is a great Terabyte disk, but note that the 7K1000 has documented compatibility issues with some early first generation SATA controllers. I hit this on a VIA 8237 controller. Hitachi note issues with the VIA 8237A chipset, Marvell Gen 1 series and the Sierra Logic SR-1216 chipset, but there may be others. Unfortunately Hitachi don't provide any workarounds. There are no jumpers to set a lower default speed and even their Feature Tool won't change the default SATA mode for this drive. Sigh.
This shouldn't be an issue with any recent controllers. After I replaced my elderly VIA 8237 controller, my experience has been very good. The 7K1000 seems to be delivering both the promised high performance and low noise.
By default the Automatic Acoustic Management is set to maximize performance. Even then, the seeks are relatively quiet. I used Hitachi's Feature Tool to optimize for quiet seeks. This has a mild impact on seek performance, but now the seeks are almost inaudible. (This is in a Hush ATX fanless PC where the disk is the only audible noise.)
The drive also ships configured for write caching for better performance. Depending on how concerned you are about things like sudden power failures you may want to disable that. I was happy to leave it on.
Overall, despite my initial compatibility woes, I'm giving this five stars. As promised the 7K1000 is vast (a Terabyte!), fast and very quiet.

Amazon.com Product Description
The Hitachi P42H401 is a 42-inch plasma HDTV that brings extraordinary value with a unique HD1080 resolution standard.
Outstanding Picture Quality
With a unique 1280 x 1080 resolution, the P42H401 has over 1,000 lines of vertical resolution, allowing it to have a line-for-line match of incoming 1080i TV signals. While it is not the full 1080p resolution, it has a better resolution than 720p panels at a similar price. Picture quality is further enhanced, thanks to ClearWindow technology that reduces the visibility of a grid structure and maximizes brightness and clarity.
The P42H401 has 1080 lines of vertical resolution for a line-for-line match with 1080i TV signals. View larger. View back panel. |
Timed swtiching allows picture settings to automatically adjust for changing ambient light conditions. |
With the PictureMaster HD IV processor, all video inputs are scaled to match the native resolution of the unit to ensure a detailed picture no matter the source. For a better picture, the processor also performs noise reduction and other picture enhancements, such as dynamic contrast and histogram processing, automatic 3:2 film enhancement, and the capability for 16-bit color. Users can select between four HD and six SD aspect modes, and three preset color temperatures.
Well Connected
The P42H401 has three HDMI SimplayHD inputs (two rear, one front), the highest quality connection available that has both high definition video and audio in one cable. It also has two component video inputs, one S-Video input, four A/V inputs, and one RF/Antenna input. Outputs include one AV monitor output (fixed audio), one S-Video monitor output, and one optical digital audio output. You can connect the optical digital audio output with your home theater system to obtain surround sound when the built-in 20-watt speaker system isn't quite enough. The TV speaker can then be used as a center speaker.
There are built-in ATSC/NTSC tuners, both of which are combined into one tuning memory for seamless selection of channels, regardless of format. The unit is also QAM-digital-cable compatible.
Day and Night Differences
The P42H401 allows for three custom settings that match the picture settings with accompanying ambient light conditions so that you get the optimal picture and contrast settings no matter the hour. Additionally, the anti-reflective screen ensures a quality picture by reducing glare and deepening blacks for more contrast and detail. The television also features multiple screen saver and power saving modes for efficiency when not in use.
The P42H401 is backed by a 1-year parts and labor warranty.

Customer Reviews:
Great value for $700!.......2007-12-28 I was fortunate enough to purchase this item at a Sears for $700 since I used my Sears credit card to get 10% off. The picture is phenomenal with 1080i cable broadcast channels. The TV has 3 HDMI inputs and 2 component video inputs. The only 2 downsides for this TV is that the speakers are small and not too powerful and other reviewers have had issues with the bulb burning out after less than 1 year. The warranty covers this, but if you were to pay out of pocket it would by $200 for just the bulb. Hitachi is not a premium brand (Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Pioneer are), but I think it is better than Westinghouse or Insignia. And this is a plasma TV with a wider viewing angle than a LCD TV.
I mounted it to the wall with Peerless tilt mount and it looks great.
Good value- excellent picture.......2007-12-25 This is a very good value, the picture is excellent. One caveat: YOU MUST READ THE MANUAL! In order to get the best picture, you need to tinker with the settings.
I am well pleased with the TV, the picture is as good or better than many sets I have looked at that were almost twice the price I paid. I highly recommend this one.
Very Good Bargian on a Great TV........2007-12-09 When I first saw this unit advertised, it was @ SEARS for $773. Great deal huh? I thought so too but I himhawed about it too long and missed out. But alas all was not lost! Nebraska Furniture Mart was Johnny-On-The-Spot with a price match for the same model and beat it by 10% the next day that SEARS ran out! So I was swift enought to catch that one and I got it for $745+tax=$810! That alone was the best deal of the century for me! Now a little about the TV itself.
The Good:
The unit is a 1080i (which as you may have read in many other post you will not see from the broadcasters due to bandwidth issues.) However, paired with a Up-Converting DVD (or if you dare to invest in a Blue-ray or HD-DVD player) and whoa baby! Great picture! The menu is quite easy to get through although abit slow. Pleanty of connections in the back (and front) for whatever you may have. Very clean look and feel. I also like the fact that it senses other inputs so that when the TV is off and you start something like the DVD player in my example it turns on and switches to that input. Really neat feature. I haven't fully explored this yet.
The Bad:
The speakers just plain suck.., you could install a set of PC speakers and they would sound better. But hopfully you have a HomeTheater system of sometype and this won't be an issue.
This unit is quite heavy. Over 80lbs, and when I installed the mounting bracket for the wall mount, it was touching on 95lbs. I mounted this unit above my fireplace in brick. I would highly reccommend that this unit not be installed on a studded wall unless you pay someone to do it. I am very comfortable with anchoring things in brick/stone/concrete so I was able to install this unit myself with some help from my brother-inlaw and nephew to lift it into place.
Slow menu reaction.
Overall:
I think for the money invested it was a great bargin, but if I had to pay full or regular sale price on this unit I would have considered other options. Not that I would not have picked this one still.
I gave this unit only 4 stars due to the sound, I think had I paid more for this I would have been very disappointed.
Pretty good plasma for the price.......2007-12-02 I got this unit locally for $770 just before thanksgiving; I didn't feel like like paying $1100 for the Panasonic or staying up all night to pay $900 on black Friday.
I agree with pretty much all of the reviewers; it's not top notch but it is very good. It does seem to need a fair amount of involvement to get the best performance. Some observations:
Hidden power switch. The on/off button on the remote and the front panel is not the REAL power switch. I thought mine was DOA until I called Hitachi support. See pg 12, bullet #7 in the manual. Sheesh.
The sound is pitiful. Yes, you can boost bass & treble, switch on loudness, but that's lipstick on a pig. I don't want to fire up my 800 watt 6.1 sound system just to listen to the news (which looks incredible in HD!).
Video adjustments: The factory presets are not quite right, but I'm not sure how to set for the best results. Day-dynamic blows out the whites (it's the default when the set is powered up). Sometimes I see banding in gradations and facial tones. There's plethora of zoom settings, which are non=linear; peoples heads are slightly squashed or crawler are faster at the edges. I wish all the channels were widescreen (not the tv's fault).
Channel change speed: It will be slow if you press the channel #s or go up/down and just wait. It's waiting for you to press "select". Try it; it's immediate.
I've NEVER seen this for a straight price of $400-500. I imagine you have entire garage full of these if that were true.
Overall, I'm happy with it for the price. The high def is brilliant.
Great Unit.......2007-11-28 Very solid unit with great picture. This may be nit picking, but my only complaints are: tiny channel number text, only one non-digital audio output, and the long amount of time it takes to switch between channels (although this might be true for all plasma tvs....)
