Works as advertised.......2007-11-21
I like the size and it works like any other usb flash drive I have owned. Mine came in black, which I prefer over the red shown in the picture.
Not really 2G.......2007-09-26
I purchased a 2G Lexar Firefly to download music to use in the USB port on my car stereo. It will only let me download to 450 MG. A CD holds more than that.
Very Satisfied.......2007-08-23
The item is very compact. Seats firmly into its' cover and performs well with transfer speeds tests. I've very happy with the purchase and was pleased with the amount of space I was able to get for the price.
Good size, good performance.......2007-07-10
This flash drive is very small, cute and its performance is more than acceptable.
I have USB 2.0 ports in my laptop, and it takes about 3 minutes to write 2 GB into the flash drive. The read time is a little bit faster.
Since I don't care about having the fastest flash drive on Earth, I'm really happy with this product. You just have to be careful not to loose it because of its size.
So Sloooooooow.......2007-06-25
I really can't begin to describe how slow the transfer rate of the Lexar firefly is. The transfer rate makes it nearly unusable for anything but a few small files. It can take literally HOURS to transfer 500 MB if it is a bunch of small files you are transferring. It is a little bit faster with fewer larger files. However, I recommend looking for something else. I am very disappointed with my purchase.

Save your money.......2007-11-29
I bought this for my critical financial files and some other absolutely necessary data. It lasted about six months if that. I formatted it and tried to get it back in shape. Nothing worked.
I'm going to go back to Kingston DataTraveler Elite 4gb. I have a Kingston that has outlived every other flash drive I've had and it's still going strong. Just not enough storage. They cost more. But you get more. Long run, you can spend lots of money on flash drives if you have to buy them every six months or a year. I'd rather spend more upfront and have something I can depend on.
I sure don't recommend this drive.

More "gadgety" than good.......2007-05-12
If you want people to be amazed, astonished, and a bit jealous of your flash drive, this is the one for you.
Most can't believe that this (literally) small-finger sized drive holds 4GB.
However, for how gadgety it is, it lacks in performance.
First of all, it is not 4GB. It is 3.77GB. That's a lot of memory missing. 3.5GB would be a more correct listing. Secondly, it's slow. Very slow. Even pulling up a notepad file takes much longer than it should.
This flash drive was one of the ones affected by Lexar's recall. Not that this particular one was, but the model in general was for overheating issues. The Firefly is still a victim of overheating, but not as badly as people who push the issue would have you think.
If you want a "wow" drive and not a "work" drive, this is the one for you. That blinking blue light could win anyone over immediately. Just don't expect stellar performance.
Great data storage device.......2007-02-04
Love it. I store all my class teaching materials with illustrations, and after using two 1 gig Lexar mass storage devices and filling most of the available space, this is pure luxury. I look forward to an 8 gig and ultimately a 16 gig. Lexar is a very reliable company, and their products are well worth the extra cost. The only drawback to the 4 gig is that it seems just a little slower than my 1 gigs. Minor point, though.
Marketing Pinheads triumph.......2006-12-22
I got this as a gift from a friend who should know better, but I could easily have been suckered by the weasel words the marketing department plastered on the package.
The package says "Hi Speed" USB but I had 670 MB on a 1 GB Cruzer Mini that I wanted to transfer to the new Lexar JumpDrive FireFly. The upload to my laptop went smoothly - no more than 10 minutes. Then I took out the Cruzer and inserted the FireFly in the same USB port and copied the directory I had just uploaded to the FireFly via a simple "paste". It took over an hour (I don't know exactly how long since I had to leave before it finished).
When I got back, I decided to do a test copy of the data back to the Cruzer. The same data only took 10 minutes to download back to my 1 GB Cruzer.
It seems clear that "Hi Speed" for Lexar means USB 1.0 (about 12 Mbps) and not USB 2.0 (about 480 Mbps).
I'm sure the marketing department said "Why confuse the poor stupid consumers with technichal specs.?"
I searched their website to see if there was more information but the suits seem to have veto power over the web designers as well.
If speed is important to you (and with a 4 GB drive it is logical to assume that you are going to have some large files to move) then steer clear of this product. 1 GB of data will take you on the order of an hour or more to move.
Of course if speed is not important or if you only have 1.0 USB ports on your machine then the product is fine. It works as well as any other flash drive device on the market.
My main complaint is that without testing, it is hard to know that this is only a 1.0 device.

Firefly 4gb.......2007-10-17
I like my jumpdrive except that it seems to take a while to save my projects. Other than that it is a great tool

Very slow.......2007-06-12
This would be a great product if it weren't extremely slow. If speed is a factor, buy another brand.
small, cheap, slow.......2007-06-02
This is a very compact USB flash drive, with good capacity, and it is cheap. The plastic cap provides good protection. The main drawback is that this is a really really slow drive. It takes over an hour to copy 500MB onto it (from a hard drive, under Win XP). I can recommend this drive only for rarely-accessed archives, or if your time has no value.
Love it.......2007-03-08
I need to back up all my class lectures, including illustrations, and this 4GB Firefly is just what I needed. It is a little slow, but that does not worry me too much. Its design is such that the small unit is separable from the cover, and so it plugs securely into my labtop USB without having a key ring dangling from it.
Lexar are a very reliable company, and I also have two of their 1GB mass storage devices. Very satisfied with them as well.

Does the job, but does it slowly........2007-10-07
I purchased the Lexar Firefly 1GB from the student bookstore at my University for only $14.00. I use it often and it works perfectly for all of my papers and text documents. Anything larger takes some time to load and interact with though.
I was disappointed by the speed issue as I hoped to use the flash drive with portlable firefox and other small, usb drive based application. The device is far to slow to do this though.
Since it is really only good for storage of small files I would suggest buying one of the fireflies with smaller capacity. If all you are doing is storing text files the smaller drives should do and are a better value.
Very convenient.......2007-09-22
I have had several USB drives and this one is by far the most convenient. The clear cap connects nicely to a key ring and the drive can be quickly removed for use. I highly recommend this drive for anyone who wants to carry a flash drive with them.

Decent value, would give it 2-3 stars if I could change it.... .......2007-02-23
I'm sure small size and appearance have their merits, but above all, a product should work. To me, nothing else matters if it doesn't work, and this drive is unfathomably slow. It's slow to the point that I'd rather use a floppy disk. If it's too slow to use, no one is going to find it effective.
I don't think I'm the intended customer for this product. I would never have chosen a flash drive that had the lanyard hole on the case. As another reviewer remarked, if you put a string through the hole in the case, you could lose the flash drive. The drive snaps in securely, so this is a minor point. Still, it's poor design by Lexar.
As I stated, my wife gave me this as a gift. Normally, I don't buy any electronics without thoroughly researching them. This is a $50 item, so I thought I'd just use it. I've sorely disappointed.
The market may be fragmenting, and this may be targeted to youths who appreciate the many colors. But I can't imagine a youth, who will likely be moving audio, video, and photos using this drive. It's just too slow.
UPDATE: 6/26/07: I've been using the firefly a lot, and though it is still ghastly slow in some instances, it has performed well, especially for the money. I notice the slowless mostly when I am moving directories that contain large numbers of files or subfolders, which is common in the less expensive drives. It also seems to periodically choke on larger files.
I'm still not over the fact that it is so small and easy to lose -- to easy. I think we've reached diminishing returns on small size for jump drives. I don't want to make them any smaller, I'm already past the point where i can keep track of it. Also, I still dislike the fact that there is no lanyard hole on the physical drive itself. I would never attach one to the flimsy plastic cover and risk losing the drive.
It has been a good little drive, despite my initial complaints. However, I'd look for something faster and sturdier in the future.
Okay but nothing fancy.......2006-11-14
The Lexar firefly USB flash/thumb drive is a small and compact drive that does the job. If you need a tiny flash drive for work or for casual use... it should do fine. However, overall it leaves you with a feeling that the designers could have done better and could've spent a bit more time ....well, designing it. Here are some pros and cons that I've found with these fireflys. The one I have is the 4GB, however they come in an assortment of memory capacities including 256MB(red), 512MB(green), 1GB(blue), 2GB(black), and 4GB(white). Each memory comes in a unique color. For example, the 4GB seems to only come in white, and 2GB comes in black.
Pros: Very small compact design (about as small as the Sandisk Micros), and clear protective case seems to clip and hold onto the drive pretty well. Cool blue LED at the end that flashes while reading and writing. Reads and Writes data pretty fast (though seemingly not as fast as Sandisk drives)
Cons: Pre-loaded Software on drive automatically tries to install itself on computer(personally, I hate the fact that the drive comes with pre-loaded software, but you may not mind). Plastic protective case does not come with a string or key-ring to put on keychain(only a hole to slip a key ring or string through). The Flash drive itself does not have any holes to attach directly to keyring, so if you lose the protective case, there's no way to attach the drive to your keys.(they should've included some extra protective cases in different colors just in case) The build quality looks cheap and not very sturdy looking. Colors are plain and ordinary looking with very little choices. I don't like being stuck with one color choice per memory capacity. They should've just gone with black, silver, or metallic hues.
Conclusion: If you're just looking for a nice, simple and compact portable drive with a variety of capacities, this should do the trick. Also, the price on these are dropping fast and therefore are a good value for the money. However, if your data is very important to you, you may want to go with a sturdier model (like the Sandisk Titanium)... but expect to spend more money. This flash-drive does what it claims... though it doesn't claim much. No many bells and whistles here... if you're a gadget freak, you may be left wanting more... like yours truly. However, if the price is right, it's hard to pass up a good deal. Thankfully I got a good deal (Psst ...not on Amazon)

My Favorite USB Drive.......2007-05-11
I have several USB drives, and this one is my favorite. The compact size usually does not block the adjacent USB slot, although you may need to set the cap aside. The activity LED is visible from all directions, so you get feedback. I often use this in laptops or desktops other than my own, and the putrid green color is a real advantage to remind me that I need to remove it and take it with me. The cap still fits snugly after about ten months of use.
I carry this in a laptop case rather than on a keychain. Keychains get a lot of banging, and I'd rather not tempt fate.
I recommend any of the Lexar Firefly models, but this one has the most obnoxious color, and is highly recommended for anyone who can be forgetful, although I can't remember who that might be.
lexar jump drive.......2007-01-18
I just wanted to let you know that the jump drive work well. I have the red 256 mb and I needed another one so I chose the next step up so that I wouldn't have 2 of the same color and get confused.
Thanks
Good product, nice and small.......2007-01-09
This product does not have a feature that helps you not lose it, but since i ordered it to go in one of those digital picture frames, no big deal. It's small size means it doesn't stick out from the back, although the bright green color sure doesn't make it blend in. If i were getting a flash drive to just carry around, I would get one that can go on a keychain (not where the cap can go on a keychain), or one that has a lanyard. This one has the ability to fall out of the cap, leaving you without the important part!
Great Design.......2006-12-28
I've had two other flash drives. Because the caps did not snap in place, they were quickly lost. Not only does this drive have a snap on cap, the cap itself attaches to your keychain, so you can't lose it. That also means the drive can attach to the computer without your keys being attached as well. The back end lights up blue when the data is transferring and can be seen no matter which way the drive is facing (other drives just have an LED that only shows from one side). Also the drive is so small and so thin that you can still use the adjacent USB port when it is plugged in. I'm sure other drives are out there with these same qualities, but to me this is a perfect design.

Good Jober.......2007-08-24
This great little tot serves me in several ways. I use it a work with out-of-date computers using Win 98, and with the downloadable driver, and can easily transfer from home on my Vista and Win XP. I don't know if the 1G or larger Lexar is a Firefly or will work or not, but I cannot use the SanDisk or Toshiba 1G flash (nor find a Win 98 driver for them). But for what I do, even backing up the 75MGs of office files and leaving that little Firefly at work in case the old Win 98 crashes again, the Firefly is neat and most usuful, as it can back up my 10 office directories of about 75MGs in about 10 minutes at work, where it used take several hours on the ten floppies -- gosh, that is a savings. Lastly, as you can see in the picture, the clip part that goes on your key chain STAYS on the key chain, so you can leave the Firefly in the computer and still use your keys, unlike the others. With most, you have to leave your keys attached and/or even lose the cover (though such could be safer). But at 12-14 bucks, and when transfering non-critical and convenince files, it is nice to leave it where you put it and NOT have your key chain attached.
