Product Description
Originally developed for professional musicians, the E3c combines WideBand MicroDriver technology with a sound isolating design to deliver rich, detailed sound with improved high end while blocking outside noise - ideal for optimizing your listening experience with portable MP3, DVD, and CD players as well as all other audio sources. The E3c's in ear design works like an earplug to block background noise naturally. This enables you to listen comfortably at lower volumes-even in loud environments. And unlike bulky headphones utilizing active noise cancellation technology, no artifacts are introduced into your listening experience. Sound isolating earphones are also much smaller and don't require batteries. The E3c's speakers are constructed with studio-grade components to produce exceptional audio clarity, delivering detailed highs and enhanced bass that allows you to hear parts of your music you've never heard before.Because every ear is different, E3c Earphones come with a pair of disposable Foam Sleeves, three pairs (small, medium, large) of Flex Sleeves, and three pairs of Soft Flex Sleeves (small, medium, large) to ensure the ideal personalized fit.
Customer Reviews:
Worth the $$.......2007-10-28
Well worth the money. Great clean sound, nice base. Excellent addition to my iPod. Blocks noise very well. And comfortable, I wear mine about 4 hours a day with little ear fatigue. I was hesitant spending this much for a pair of earphones, but glad I did. These are so nice I even use them to edit video/audio on my computer. I also like the included carrying case, nice protection for this investment.
Good sound, noise reduction, and portability - but ultimately frustrating.......2007-09-18
On my second trip to Europe in 2005 I brought along my iPod Mini and a pair of Sony noise-cancelling headphones. Both helped make the almost 15 hours of plane time much easier to bear. But on my third trip this year I needed to go as light as possible. I'd upgraded to the more portable iPod Nano 4GB, and I wanted to find a quality "earphone" that would sound good, drown out the flight noise, be compact, and stay in my ears. The Sure E3c scored in three out of the four categories - but the fourth overshadowed the other three, and was ultimately a showstopper for me.
I normally don't care for earphones of any kind. It's hard to get used to having something lodged in my ear canal. However, since I was heading to Europe for a 500-mile backpacking trek, I had to pare down my load. My headphones were much too bulky and fragile to shlep along on such a trek, so I sucked it up and started researching earphones. I soon discovered that the Shure line had the most fervent devotees. Folks raved about their sound, and I liked how they rolled up into a hard zippered case not much bigger than a ping-pong ball. So, I finally settled on the E3c model - a bit spendy, but not a huge price jump from the E2c line.
I was so busy with other travel preparations that I waited until the actual plane ride before trying them out. I immediately clashed with the rubber earphone covers. None of them worked for me - the bud started sliding out of my ear canal almost immediately. After wading through a couple sizes, I gave up and turned my hopes toward the yellow spongy earplug-like covers. A bit of kneading rewarded me with a decent seal upon insertion, and I was finally able to relax for a bit and listen to my music.
As other reviewers have noted, the sound quality of the E3c line is quite good. In some ways, it was almost like listening to my old music for the first time due to the excellent crispness and clarity (although the bass is nothing to write home about). I was able to hear new details in familiar songs, thereby gaining a deeper appreciation for them. The noise reduction is also up to par, and the difference was very noticeable when I took them out of my ears - or when they fell out against my will, which was far too often.
Indeed, like a first date that starts out good but quickly goes sour, the E3c's limitations began to make themselves known. When the in-flight meal came and I started chewing, the buds quickly worked their way out of my ears - so no music to accompany my dinner. A number of times when I moved around (especially while napping) I'd tug the E3c cord, and *pop* went one or both phones out of my ear. It's annoying when Mozart is immediately replaced by engine noise and passenger conversation, particularly when you've finally managed to fall asleep. And for no apparent reason while sitting still, one or both would simply work their way loose. Finally, having to use the tiny wax cleaner to remove buildup from the sound canal was kind of gross. Despite their bulk, I began to long for my Sony headphones.
In the end, even with the portability and great sound (when I had a good ear canal seal, that is), the Shures were more frustrating than pleasurable. I got tired of reinserting them over and over again, not being able to listen while eating, accidently yanking them out, and having to clean them. If you don't struggle with these issues, then I recommend you get the E3c's because of their fine sound, lightness, and space-saving size. As for me, I suppose I'll have to use them when portability is a must. But otherwise I'll stick with headphones.
For motorcycle use.......2007-09-10
While these are genuinely better than previous sound-isolating ear phones I have used with a full-face helmet, they still do not register much bass at anything over 40mph. It is crucial to get the correct seal. To do that, it's worthwhile to try all of the ear inserts Shure provides, and be meticulous about getting them properly established before you take off. Once underway it's all to easy to catch the cord, even on the collar of your jacket, and pull one of the ear plugs out. Then your stuck until the next opportunity to take the helmet off. If you're looking at using these on a motorbike, audio books and simple rock work reasonably well. For me, the orchestral and acoustic stuff isn't worth even taking along.
Shure--great earphones, great service.......2007-08-26
I purchased some E3's to upgrade from my E2 when I bought a new ipod. I loved the E2's and as expected the E3's are even better--with more definition at all frequencies and sound levels. The fit in the ear does have some sweet spots and Shure provides a number of ear plug options to help everyone find something they like. I have compared these earphones to my Bose Quiet Comfort headphones sitting in the rear of a jet while travelling (next to the engine). The less expensive E3 beat out the Bose headphones with better high and middle end definition and equivalent outside sound isolation. The Bose headphones have a bit better low end.. but nothing is bone shaking with earphones or headphones anyway.
As for Shure customer service--I had a suspected loose wire in one of the earplugs (used for 8 months) leading to dropouts when I would move my head. I got a return form off the Shure website--filled it out and sent it along with a copy of my receipt to Shure. Within 10 days, they had sent out a completely new pair at no charge. THAT is great service. The thing I have not told you is that despite the fact that I had a problem with the E3's, I could not live without some earplugs--so I went out and bought a pair of Shure SE420's while I was waiting for my E3 "repair". (I had already given my E2's to another friend--who says he loves them). Now I have my new E3 and the higher end SE420! The only reason that the E3 did not get a "5" is because the SE420's are definitely richer sounding--something I would never have thought possible without having both to compare directly. Can't live without em! I would recommend the entire line of Shure earphones, buying whichever one best fits your budget.
Perfect!.......2007-08-24
Just got these in the mail today and have tried all of the different sleeves. I had good results with a few of them, but when I tried the yellow foams I could not believe how good the sounds was. The sound isolation is very good and the range if great. If you have them inserted properly there is plenty of bass. I've been using them for about an hour and love the sound, comfort and isolation. Best earphones I've ever had for my ipod after trying several cheaper earbuds ($20-$40), including those that come with the ipod.

Shure EA650 Level Attenuator reduces the level of incoming signals and allows for precise volume adjustment, minimizing background hiss. Compatible with all Shure E series and SE series of sound isolating earphones.
Customer Reviews:
attenuate and remove some hiss.......2007-08-16
I use this between my Palm PDA and my portable headphones. The output from the palm headsphone socket is pretty hissy especially with low impedance headphones. The Shure volume control doies a pretty good job at reducing the hiss - not perfect but it is enough to make an audible difference - oh and you can use it as a volume contriol as well.
This is necessary for all iPod users.......2007-05-13
Because I cannot get any iPod to have a volume low enough for my ear comfort, I use the Shure Attenuator to control the volume. They do not want it used this way, but it is a true "ear saver."
Perfect For Shure Sound Isolating Earphones.......2007-02-08
I always had problems adjusting the volume of my Shure Earphones because the dials on the players are not fine enough to get just the right level. This is the answer. I set the volume on the player and then do the fine tuning on this.
Shure EA650 Level Attenuator .......2007-01-03
This product works great; it does exacly what I hoped it would do. I travel overseas often and like to use my own headphones to listen to the inflight movies but the volume is so loud it hurts my ears. With this device I can use my own headphones and listen at a comfortable level.

Not Just for Shure.......2007-10-17
I use this for a different set of Bass Freq earbuds. Only the largest of earbuds won't fit. The take up spool inside is a nice feature.
just ok.......2007-08-29
this thing was made for shure iems. doesnt fit super.fi 5 pros. i use it for my v-moda vibes. so its just an ok case. not too big, well protected.
Nice little case, but the interior reel is annoying.......2007-08-23
This case came with my earphones - its one of my favorite storage cases - very rugged and compact. However, spooling the cord around the reel is a PITA - to fit the whole set inside, you have to nest the ear buds, plug and whatever that little do-hickey is that sits where the wires divide (can you tell I'm not a stereo expert?) It will accomodate an airplane jack adaptor, which is useful.
It would be great if the case came in different colors (no, I don't care if it matches my outfit!) It can be very hard to find when it is sitting at the bottom of a black bag! I guess I'll have to modify it somehow to make it easier to see!
Duplicate Case.......2007-08-19
I bought this case to hold and protect my Shure E4c earbuds. I did not know the E4c's came with a similarly sized round case, or I would not have purchased this one. The case that was supplied with my E4c's is one undivided space. The EA622, the same size, contains a plastic reel. The intent is for the user to wind the earpiece cord onto the reel. An opening in the center of the reel stores the earpieces. I prefer the original undivided case. I quickly coil-up my E4c around my fingers and place the headset into the original case. It takes me longer to wind my cord around the internal reel. A plastic rivet fastens the reel in the EA622 case. Works fine, if you don't mind the reel divider.

Customer Reviews:
Oustanding. Add the Sensaphonics custom sleeves, and make them unbelievable!.......2007-08-25
I went from the E3Cs to these in November last year. I could not believe the improvement in sound quality: the tonal response is smoother and flatter, and the dynamics jump out at you. Really, REALLY good.
And then a friend recommended the Sensaphonics custom sleeves to go with them. He let me try his -- OK, the fit was not very good, and it was a little uncomfortable, but with the sound being delivered further down the ear canal, I was truly astounded by how much better the listening experience was. I was hearing stuff in the music that I just had not known was there. Of course, I soon made an appointment to get my impressions taken, and the sleeves ordered.
At a total of $570 ($400 for the IEMs, and $170 for the sleeves) this is NOT cheap. However, the sound is superior, noticeably, to the sound I get from my $2500 speakers driven bi-amped from my $4000 CD/pre/power setup (listening from the headphone jack on the pre-amp).
I really can't say enough good things about this combination.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!!
Shure E500.......2007-08-22
For people who are not satisfied with the free earphones that came with your ipod and for those who believe that listening to quality music demands quality equipments then the Shure E500 Noise cancelling Earphones are for you.
I plugged the E500 to my ipod and pressed play, the sound quality was beyond any I had ever heard from a pair of headphones. The best way to describe the listening experience would be , like having music wired straight to your brain. The isolators are very good in cancelling outside noise, it is so good that shure developed a voice port module that would enable you with just a flick of a switch, and the outside world come back in, thanks to a microphone embedded in the line.
Another downside would be that it has a lot of wires to contend with especially when the voice port module is connected. I find this to expensive for an earphones, because of its high quality. So if you are serious with your music and have the extra money, this would be worth every dollar.
Outstanding Earbuds.......2007-07-17
I have owned the Shure E500PTH for 4 months now and would definitely spend $379 to purchase them again.
I use them mostly for going to the gym and working out with free weights, elliptical machine, and Stair Master. They nearly eliminate the clang from weights, noisy AC, and loud background music, and leave me with crystal clear, well balanced, full range music from my iPod. The cord is not microphonic and produces no added noise, even at a fast pace on the elliptical machine.
The E500PTHs are so clear that I can hear the difference between low and high bit rate music. In fact, I have gone back and encoded most of my CDs to Apple Lossless format.
As many other reviewers have commented, I can hear background instruments, vocals, and effects that I never knew were in my music.
I took the advice of other reviewers and gave the E500PTHs a 20 hour "burn in" with my iPod on 3/4 volume. I noticed a huge increase in clarity and tone after the "burn in" period.
I also read the manual for proper insertion of earbuds, and have found that the best technique for getting a good seal is to pull down on the bottom of my ear lobe while pushing the earbuds into my ear canal.
I do not use the PTH module since it is too bulky to wear at the gym. It is very easy to get the earbuds back in and quickly get a good seal. I tried the foam, hard rubber, and soft rubber inserts in different sizes, and have found the soft rubber to get a perfect seal and stay in my ear despite a fast pace and sweaty face.
These earbuds are very durable. They have been dropped, sat on, and sweat on for 4 months and still look brand new.
The accessory kit is awesome. I love the durable aluminum case. The included wax removal tool works perfect. There are many different sizes and types of inserts. And best of all, the included cords and adapters ensure the earbuds will work in almost any environment.
Over 500 miles of cardio and 100 trips to the gym and I am still in love with the E500PTHs!
Very Very Good but for $500 should have been perfect.......2007-07-06
I own three iPODs and listen to music about 3 to 5 hours a day. It helps me concentrate when working (i do some graphic art work) and block out noise and it puts me to sleep a few nights a week when I have trouble. I listen to everything from "fuzz" (white noise) to classical music, jazz, rock, bluegrass etc. so I guess i am a good "reviewer" and I felt obliged to pass along my experience as it has been fairly costly to obtain and could save others a lot of time not to mention money. So here's my take. By the way i am also a product design engineer, not that it helps me be a better consumer but rather i tend to see things more analytically than many consumers. So much for qualifications - this is still just my opinion -
Having lived with ultimate ears super.fi pro 5EB (excellent bass) and before that the ultimate ears pro 5 both for a couple years now,AND having to replace the thin cord set on both three times - the last time - I opted for a pair of Shure E500PTH's their best earphones instead.
My reasoning was based on my previous experience with Shure's most excellent V15 type III series of stereo phono cartridges (what are those) from back in the days of "record players".
Anyone who could make such a tiny transducer that produced superb sound from plastic discs with bumps on them surely could make one of these ear buds. I also thought about there industry standard microphones. so I ponied up the $500 and gave them a try.
Well lets get the audio performance out of the way -I must note that It is hard to do A/B comparisons because you can't just switch between speakers. Changing involves pulling these guys out of your ear canal and stuffing the other set back in which is a bit distracting from your sonic memory
BOTTOM SOUND LINE - Yes they have excellent clear solid sound and decent bass response as I expected for $500 and they seem just slightly "cleaner with more separation both voice and instruments" than the UE 5EB's but with less bass (that's what the EB stands for i think - extended/enhanced bass so no big surprise there) BUT the differences are small and once I start listening with either one the music is so clear and enjoyable I forget any differences. But i prefer the Shure's
HOWEVER just as critically helpful in delivering that awsome sound was I suspecct the volume control. Since the frequency response of your ear varies with volume you can "tune in" the best sounding sweet spot by adjusting the volume - and with your iPod up all the way this control can either whisper or blow your eardrums out. (in fact Shure puts a warning paper in the box advising you to listen at the lowest level - which sounds the best anyway to me)
LET ME QUALIFY THAT - They sound really really good once you get the right sealed foam piece on the earbud so your ear canals are really isolated. I have one ear canal slightly bigger than the other so it took a while, but i guess everyone's ears are different both individually and in pairs which is why they give you so many different sleeve.
Just like ultimate ears (UE), they come with an assortment of different sizes of foam and soft rubbery "sleeves" as they call them, to help you get that fit right. One thing they do have that ultimate ears doesn't is a moldable foam material on some of the sleeves that slowly re-expands when you squeeze it so it creeps shut and since it's solid I imagine it blocks out sound more effectively than the rubber umbrella design.
Another difference is the heavier three piece cord - UE's have a single thin and very light weight cord with a right angle plug that goes into you iPod at one end AND at the other end(s) a stiff bendable wire sleeve at the earbud which bends around your ear and KEEPS the cord over your ears.
The right angle plug keeps close to your iPod and out of the way and it is harder to accidently pull out like if you drop you iPod (heaven forbid - I do it almost once a day with no problems). They are very comfortable to the point that you forget there is a cord and that you have earphones on! AND IF THEY GO BAD since the cord plugs into each earbud assembly right at the ear - YOU CAN UNPLUG THEM and replace them, Lucky for me. The cords are only about $20 instead of the $100-150 for a new set of earphones.
Shure E500PTH uses three pieces -
1. a short headset cord that comes together at chest level under the chin ending in a female mini stereo jack plug
2. a 2 inch long thumb-wheel volume control which has male and female ends and a short cord ending in a bulkier right angle jack
3 a 2 foot or so long standard male/female straight steros mini jack cable that plugs into your iPod and of course sticks up an inch and a half or so bulging above your pocket and adding that extra length to your iPod
Now i guess you can plug number 2 and 3 in reverse order so the handy compact right angle plug on the volume control is at your iPod but that puts the bulky volume control right there also since the cord it has is very short (about 4 inches from angle plug to volume control)
ANYWAY - I thought the idea was to put the handy volume control right under your chin so you can just reach up and turn it down (or up if you like the next tune) which is what i like about the Shure E500PTH's
On the downside Shure E500PTH uses no such bendable sleeve - the wire is molded into the earbuds so i guess if it goes bad after the 2 year warranty your out the $500 but it seems more durable than the UE's. Because the cord just winds over the ear, I found the cord kept falling from around my ear and pulling at the earbud unsealing it until I pushed the cowboy-hat-like rubber cinch that holds the two cords together, up tight under my chin. Yee-Ha with a strangle hold - well it isn't really that uncomfortable but you feel it up under the chin like a cowboy hat cord.
BUT this stiff bendable wire that keeps the UE's cord over my big ears is right where my UE's cord frayed and broke down so maybe this could be a hidden drawback for UE's
Shure E500PTH's heavier bulkier cord, while more durable, is always there making its presence known, with the volume control dangling from it.
I guess that's the trade off and why my UE cords eventually broke - and in fairness I should mention that I frequently fall asleep listening to my ipod in bed so there's a cord stress test.
After listening to the Shure E500PTH's for a while and adjusting the volume with each song, I put my UE's (the 5EB) back in and they seemed to have a stronger bass but very similar sound not noticablly worse or better -both excellent.
so i guess if i could put UE's feather light cord on Shure E500PTH's earbuds and add a magic lightweight volume control AND make the cord DURABLE - NOW THAT WOULD BE THE ULTIMATE EARBUDS
Great Sound , Bad Wires.......2007-07-04
I purchased these from Amazon, and used them every day since. Great sound, but the wires won't stand long. I got mine taped cause the wires inside began to show after the outer rubber began to crack. And you can't change the wires because they're not replaceable. The only thing you can do is to fix them the hard way or ship them back to shure so be replaced.

Amazon.com Review
If you're looking to upgrade your portable music listening experience, the Shure E3c sound isolating earphones deserve a serious look. The E3c's offer a level of sensitivity and range that places them in the audiophile tier of earphones and fortunately, Shure has priced them to make this kind of quality within reach.
In many ways, judging sound quality is all about making comparisons, and when the E3c's are matched against their big brother, the Shure E5c earphones, the E3c's do reveal a noticeable loss of dynamic range and clarity. Of course, the E5c's are worth every penny for those who want to spend more on earphones than they spent on their iPod. The E3c's, on the other hand, come out a clear winner when you weigh their quality and cost.
Design
The E3c earbuds are small and easy to insert in the ear-- easier, in fact, than the E5c earbuds, which are larger and less friendly to folks with small ears. The E3c's thin and pliant cords are light and easy to manage. They're also designed to be looped over the back of the ear, but some testers found it uncomfortable and awkward to keep them there. These testers also said they preferred inserting the earphones upside down, letting the cords dangle downwards from the ear to avoid hassles. By comparison, the E5c earphones feature a bendable stiffening material in the section of cable that runs behind the ears, allowing the listener to loop the cables over and behind the ear more securely. It would be nice to see this simple solution added to the E3c earphones.
Shure did choose to give the E3c's the same gold-plated, 3.5mm input connector as the E5c's. The connector has a low-profile elbow bend to minimize accidental unplugging and snags-- great for laptop and airline users. And just like the E5c's, the E3c's come with a number of earplug "sleeves" packaged in what Shure calls a "fit kit". Our testers had little trouble finding a sleeve that felt comfortable. We especially liked the expanding foam sleeves that, like those foam dinosaurs that grow in water, expand to fit the contours of the ear canal.
Sound Quality
As we listened to a broad range of musical genres on the E3c earphones it was hard, once again, not to make comparisons with the E5c's. If you aren't even entertaining the notion of purchasing the E5c's, then make sure you never have occasion to listen to them. Rest easy in the knowledge that the E3c's deliver clear, crisp highs and rich, thundering lows. Delight in the fact that they excel at delivering the celebrated earphone experience; the external world is largely silenced and the music resonates inside your head. Meanwhile, if you are toying with the idea of stepping up to the E5c's, go ahead and give both models a listen. Although the difference between the two is not stark, we immediately noticed that we had to drive the E3c's at higher volume to get the same kind of resonance and fullness the E5c's deliver at a relatively lower volume.
Comparing the E3c's to the E5c's is a bit unfair, but in many ways, the comparisons revealed just how good both sets of earphones really are. The E5c's represent an extremely high benchmark, and fortunately for those who don't want to spend a bundle on top-quality earphones, the E3c's aren't too far off the pace. We recommend them as a massive upgrade to the standard headphones that ship with most portable music devices.--Joshua Gunn
Pros
- Simple, compact design
- Designed for compatibility with most ears
- Excellent sound quality at a non-stratospheric price
Cons
- Cord ergonomics could be better
- Lower-quality sound than the E5c model generates unplanned spending urge
Customer Reviews:
Don't waste your money!.......2007-11-21
Okay, the sound on these ear buds is quite good, but if you're a commuter who expects these buds to stay in your ears for an hour or more as the cable is gently tugged and pulled by your jacket, arm or whatever, this is NOT the product for you!
If you're going to use this product in your favorite chair and not moving around much, then this just might be the product you seek.
I tried every ear fitting that comes with the ear buds and none of the options were able to keep the buds in place. Even the slightest tug of the cord caused the buds to pop out. VERY frustrating.
Great sound, no noise, feel funny.......2007-10-30
First off, these are fantastic headphones. I put 'em in and the world goes away. My office-mates on the phone? Gone. Girlfriend talking to her mother? Gone.
The sound is also very clear. Not too heavy on the bass, which is great. It's nice to be able to hear the words of Digable Planets, rather than just the beat.
I had to mess with the various tips to get the ones that fit correctly -- turns out I have 2 different sized ear canals. Who knew?
My only minor nit is that they feel a little funny. I'm not used to having something stuffed that far into my ears. When they're all the way in and no music's on I can hear my breathing, sometimes even my heartbeat -- and don't even try having a snack! Once the music comes on the internal noises fade into the background, but there's definitely a surreal moment (similar to scuba diving, for you divers out there).
All in all, fabulous headphones and I heartily recommend them.
Great Customer Service.......2007-10-26
I'm a consultant and travel a lot for work so I love the noise isolation for airplanes and less than ideal work environments. I used them daily for 16 months and then the right earbud started to lose volume. I sent them back to Shure and within a week I had a new pair.
Great Customer Service from Shure!.......2007-09-12
I have had these earphones for just over 2 years.
Sound: Clear midrange audio. Pretty good highs and only fair lows. Fairy good detail contributing to fair imaging. You encounter their limitations when you record at HIGH bitrates. At 128 and even 256 they are fine.
Comfort: A very personal thing. My wife can't stand sleeves 'in' her ears. I think they are comfortable and I appreciate the selection of sleeves. I have settled on the soft gray sleeves as the compromise which suits me. The foam gets trashed pretty quick. (but sounds very good) The clear sleeves are too firm for my ears. Also, the sizing; sml, med, and lg, has been experimental for me. I like the 'over the ear' design. It is well suited for athletic activity.
Isolation: Very good isolation once you find the sleeves which fit your ears. I snowblow, mow, run, and travel on airliners with them. Great to use in busy places, while you are trying to concentrate on singular tasks.
They can be dangerous if one is in a situation requiring any alertness.
Quality/Customer Service: The service is absolutely outstanding. I have had to return THREE earphones. They have sent me replacements quickly and painlessly without any hassle or fee ...Amazing!
BUT... I have had, what I presume to be faulty drivers on two of the phones (volume dropped dramatically on one speaker). I inspected them for earwax, etc., evaluated the ipod, then sent them in. The last earphone cracked along a fusion seam behind where the sleeve-tube projects out. This may have been some trauma I inflicted while unaware. It had been just past the original 2 year warranty period but, they sent a replacement to me in less than 2 weeks.
-Now, there was never an explanation. I just got a new pkg of E3C's each time.
I like the design: The plug and cord are sturdy and without any apparent fault.
I just purchased a pair of E4's. Got them at a discounted price here. Same basic design but, upgraded speakers/drivers. They have noticeably better detail and imaging. Slightly better bass- I like them but, I like tight bass.
I have also have a lot of spare sleeves and accessories. This contributed to my decision to stick with Shure. I cross my fingers regarding quality.
They deserve plaudits for customer service.
Excellent for working out.......2007-08-22
These are awesome headphones. I'm very particular and I love them. They offer high quality sound and comfort. I've had them for about 8 months now. I use them mainly for working out; pilates, treadmill and some weight lifting. I use the yellow foam ear pieces. Once I put them in, they stay in without needing adjustment for the whole workout. What I do is I bring the cord up the back of my neck with the ear pieces reversed, then wrap the cord once around my pony tail, righting them, then install in my ears with the cord running up from my ears. This technique really works to keep them in place so you can enjoy the music without messing with your earphones every time you move around. My old set of Sony headphones were always sliding out. This style with the foam was a stroke of genius!
Average customer rating:
- Yes they will get stuck in your ears if you take them out wrong....
- They slipped off in my ears!

Customer Reviews:
Yes they will get stuck in your ears if you take them out wrong...........2007-01-03
... but once you know how to take them out, it will never happen. When you remove them, twist them a bit and push to the side of your ear maintaining pressure so they don't come off.
If they come off in your ear, grab the tweezers. It's not that big of a deal.
These are the most comfortable sleeves for the Shure earphones for me - I've tried them all
They slipped off in my ears!.......2006-08-15
When I first got the headphones (E3c) I tried all of the sleeves, trying to find a good balance between comfort, ease of use, and sound quality. It is important with all of them to insert them correctly to get a good seal, and therefore good sound.
I really liked the Ultra-soft sleeves because they were simple to put in, had a good seal, and were confortable to wear. Unfortunately they are so soft they slip off of the stem if they are in too deep. This happened to me twice (I know, fool me once...)! My wife had to get in there with tweezers to get them out. I have read that I'm not the only one. Others have had to go to the hospital to get them out. Beware!
