good product and fast shipment.......2007-12-18
I order this product on November 13 2007 and i choose 7 to 10 day shipment and i receive this product the next day wow how sweet was that. the best seller ever and not mention the shipment
Never received.......2007-12-15
It is kind of hard for me to tell you how this hard drive performs since I ordered it from J&R Music and Computers back in August and NEVER RECEIVED IT!!! They took my money right away, but after several initial communications, I can not even contact them anymore. Not even sure if they are still in business. I ordered this product while I was deployed to Iraq. J&R says it was shipped, but have not provided any proof of this or provided me with the hard drive I paid them for 5 months ago. NEVER buy anything from J&R MUSIC AND COMPUTERS. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF.
Works pretty well and is quite fast.......2007-10-09
This external HD is really good, just a squeemish below five stars. Easy to setup and easy to use. Although I don't use its own software to make my back ups, using it as a regular pen-like flash drive is superb. Just turn it on, plug the firewire and drag and drop your data to have it safe. Also, it's portable, another plus!
Drive Failure after 6 Months.......2007-09-28
This has been a great drive until it failed. I use the Maxtor strictly to back up my system each evening. After several months I noticd an occasional loud grinding noise coming from the drive. Eventually it made the grinding noise all the time - sounded like an electric pencil sharpener. Anyway, I informed Mxtor/Seagate. Their warranty records were good. They offer an option where for $20 they send a replacement drive to me and I can send my old drive back in the same shipping container. It has taken a couple weks for a replacement drive to come in stock. I just received word today my replacement is on its way. It's een frustrating having to wait so long to back up my system. Fortunately, because it's a backup, data loss is not an issue for me. I hope this review helps you make a decision.
Extra Storage / Backup.......2007-09-21
I received this product and set it up to backup my 500 GB hard drive. It works great and I would use it in other areas as well. Nice and easy to use .

Maxtor...I mean Seagate is worthless!!!.......2007-10-26
I purchased the 500GB one touch III about six weeks ago, and 2 days ago it produced the same problem everyone else is talking about. The only difference being that I can't even get the drive to power up now. I have purchased another drive of the same model, but to no avail so I returned it. The only options I have left are to send it back to Maxtor for one of their replacement drives and pay $1700 to have the files recovered, or I can crack the case and buy an external casing to put the SATA drive in. Obviously I am going to try the second option, but that means I run the risk of producing futher damge, and also void any warranty. This seems like a horrible place to be, and Seagate is in now way taking responsiblity for this obvious manufacturing defect. BTW, if anyone has suggestions on how to safely transfer a drive let me know.....
Died after only 9 months.......2007-09-29
I've bought this hard drive in January 2007. It worked OK until September 07, when it just died. It was not on most of the time, I've switched it on for few minutes once every few weeks when I had new digital photos, so overall it probably did not work more than a couple of hours.
Software bug can turn your computer into a doorstop.......2007-09-17
I saw this drive for $109 at my local office supply store, so I thought I'd try one. I should have searched the Web for "maxtor onetouch problems" first.
After about 5 hours work, the drive is working fine. Along the way, I discovered several tips which are not in Maxtor's (now Seagate's) knowledgebase. First, setting the backup schedule to "never" while leaving automatic backups to "on" puts the driver into an infinite loop which will completely disable your computer--even if you then disconnect the drive and reboot. So if you want to just do backups by pushing the button, set automatic backups to "off" and leave the backup schedule set to every day. Second, real-time virus scanning will slow the software down to about one file per second. It is essential to disconnect from the net and disable your antivirus software before starting a backup. Finally, the USB connection seems to work much more reliably than the Firewire connection. If you have Firewire problems, the manufacturer's troubleshooting guide will have you connect the drive via USB, so you might as well start with USB.
On the positive side, backups are performed as file-by-file copies. That's infinitely better than backups that go into a compressed database, should you be concerned about backup integrity or recovery of individual files.
DO NOT BUY THIS!.......2007-08-16
When looking for a larger storage solution I asked friends in IT departments what they use and this drive came recommended to me as being good. Unfortunately that hasn't been my experience. I ordered one from an online seller and it arrived DOA. Not five minutes after unpacking and connecting I was calling Maxtor only to learn that the unit was defective. Not having learned my lesson, I bought another one and now after only 6 months use, it's died with my data lost. That info will never be retrieved and I'm sure your info is valuable enough to you that you don't want to be in this position so DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE!
3 weeks later...
Well, this review column is turning into a blog for me. After the last Maxtor hard drive died they promptly sent me a refurbished model. I set it up roughly 3 weeks ago and now it's making strange noises. After another call to Maxtor/Seagate, it looks like this one's on its way to Hard Drive Heaven. I have yet to encounter such a poor product as this hard drive and it's consistent failure. Let's hope the fourth one's a charm. To their credit, Maxtor/Seagate have agreed to replace this model with a Seagate hard drive. The support team there has been very accomodating but I wish I didn't need their support so regularly. My advice to anyone considering buying one of these Maxtor One Touch 3 drives is to look elsewhere.
it sucks big time..do not buy if you own vista.......2007-06-13
it has been a nightmare since i bought this product to make it work with vista..its a dog, stay away

Nice Drive!.......2007-10-10
The drive performs as promised, although I've had little time to test it as I just set up my new computer a couple days ago. Time will tell, but I already have a 100Gb Maxtor drive which has been great.
Slowish, White LEDs bright and distracting.......2007-09-04
OK, to be fair, I've only had it a day. The backup software is so-so, the drive is kinda slow and the LEDs that show functioning of the drive are totally distracting in anything other than a brightly lighted room.
Everything about it seems a bit clunky, so I am only going to use it for weekly backups and still put all my images and data on Gold CDRs until I can afford a proper RAID.
At least it is quiet...
Bought it very cheap as a tool to migrate from XP to Vista, so if it dies in a short period, it will have served its purpose...
Maxtor T01G750 750 GB OneTouch III External .......2007-07-17
Good Product but some installation issues with the drivers: Not compatible @ 100% with vista. The Back-up interface is not compatible with Vista.
If You purchase it, DO NOT Install the Provided Drivers. Plug-in directly and let Vista find the Drivers for you or just install the Hard Drive as classic removable disk.
We have to wait 100%-compatible-drivers from Seagate to use the provided Back-up fonctionnalities
went dead within 10 days.......2007-06-13
This is my 8th Maxtor HD. I was very happy with the prior seven HDs (160GB, 250GB, two 300GB, and three 500GB). I am still useing the first generation 160GB and 250GB drivers for the video capturing purpose because they appear to have the least drop frame issue. Recently, I decided to migrate my 16 year worth family video to this 750GB driver to save space. I bought the drive about 10 days ago and migrated 450GB of the video files onto it immediately. Today, when I tried to turn it on for the second time, I found it is dead. The white LED blink for a second then went blank. Now I have a much more serious problem than returning it to the retailer. I lost all of my family videos. Many of them simply have no backups elsewhere. This is the first Maxtor that lets me down, once and for all. Follow up: Maxtor's warrenty does not include the data recovery. Optional data recovery costs $1,000 extra.
Very good Hard disk drive.......2007-05-12
I hear about some problems on this disks but for me works perfect, ideal for storage all my music video library, I recommend this product with no problems.

An excellent Hard Drive........2007-11-28
This product is excellent, I bought one for my Ipod to hold my music on. I've been happy every since.
issue with intel based macs.......2007-07-20
beware of this product if you have an intel based macintosh, i have a g5 at my work and an intel core duo imac at home, the hard drive works perfectly fine with the g5 but it can't be connected to the intel one, it looses the connection a few seconds after,
also performs erratically if connected to a g4. apparently only works fine with g5's
backup drive.......2007-05-31
Works great,I would recommend for the money. Beware the usb cable is only about 18", if you have to plug it into the back of a desktop for usb power, it can be a little short
Consumes too much power - can't drive it from USB hub.......2007-05-17
My system only included 1 USB port, and I use a USB hub to connect all of the other peripherals.
This unit came with a cable with two USB heads, which I thought was suspicious. Sure enough, plugging it into the hub gave it enough power to light up the LED (it flashed to indicate something was wrong) but not enough to spin the drive.
Since the unit didn't come with an auxiliary power supply, and my whole intent was to be USB-powered, I had to return it.
It was great ... until it broke.......2007-02-07
Worked great until it broke -- it comes with a 1-year warranty, and I've had it for about 2.

Customer Reviews:
Seagate hard drives are GARBAGE!!!.......2007-09-10
This is a terrible product backed by a terrible company. I purchased this item brand new from amazon with a one-year comprehensive warranty . . . too bad seagate does not honor warranties on their product if it is purchased from a second source rather than directly from seagate. I'm now stuck with a worthless piece of garbage that crashed twice (loosing over 5,000 legally purchased itunes songs and videos, as well as 2 years of family photos) and then eventually quit turning on at all. Amazon was more than generous in refunding 50% of the purchase price of the item a full 10 months after I purchased it, but beware: AVOID SEAGATE PRODUCTS AT ALL COST!!!
Works like a charm.......2007-07-04
Received product on time....great plug and play either with firewire or USB. I use it to store video there is no lag time with retreval from the drive to my laptop. Great product and excellent service from Amazon.
Simple but effective!.......2007-06-06
I bought this hard drive to store my ProTools recording projects. I first used the hard drive with my Dell 5150 Inspiron laptop and had no trouble what so ever. No software was needed to be installed. The drive worked perfectly. No problems. I recently purchased a Apple iMac and transfered all my files from my pc over to the mac using this drive. Then I reformatted the drive to transfer and save files on the imac. Again no software need. Easy operation and works great with both pc and mac. I recommend this drive to anybody looking to store or backup files.
Great Back-up Drive.......2007-05-15
I first purchased this drive in April last year to back up my home computer files and digital pictures. I have been very pleased with the performance and have no complaints. Today I'm purchasing a second one so I can back up the files on my laptop as well. The BounceBack software that comes with it is also easy to use and gets the job done.
Satisfied with purchase.......2007-04-02
It took no time at all to get it going, fired right up and has been doing a fine job storing my info. Only complaint: it looks like a toaster or a mini heater. The body could use a redesign, a new "do". Also, it lags a little when I press the start button, never sure if it's on until I see the blue light. All in all, for 200 gigs, I'm more than satisfied with this product.

Seagate: A company in need of defrag........2007-11-14
This product is actually a replacement for my 100Gb drive of the same type. The drive does what I expected; however, had I not lost the USB Y cable, I would not have known how bad Seagate really was. The cable is NOT universal, which means, I would need to get it directly from Seagate. I call Seagate, and after a half hour or longer, I reach India and they said they would send me another one for $10. A week later, they reversed the credit card transaction for some unknown reason.
I call back, and they said, it is not in stock... gee, thanks for telling me a week ago. I go to where I bought it (Comp USA) and the drives were all replaced a few weeks prior with Seagate's successor drive. The drive case has Torx security screws (5 point) which is not easy to get your hands on. I finally had to drill the screws through, and then after all that, Seagate made it so I can't just plug the laptop drive within, into my IDE channel in my computer. Beware Seagate.
Piece of Trash.......2007-11-13
I bought this item to simply back up my data in case of a hard drive failure on my machine. I could count on one hand the number of times I've used it, and I keep it stored safely and never take it anywhere. It just died on me at just over a year old. Right as the warranty wore out.
No more Seagate for me. One and done.
External Hard Drive.......2007-10-28
Great Product, I like that it doesn't have to have external power.
Pretty cheap for $/GB. I always love seagate.
Works with Windows 98SE.......2007-05-17
I purchased this drive because I wanted a physically small drive that would be compatible with a Windows 98SE, USB 1.0 system I have. The drive works well. With my older system it is necessary for me to use a powered USB hub and plug in both USB connectors of the supplied Y-cable. I have also found that it necessary for me to not run other USB powered devices at the same time as the hard drive.
Seagate portable external hard drive - no good to me!.......2007-02-15
I've installed lots of hardware & software, but this was the worst! I'm sure the drive is great, but the software & instructions are bewildering. The software I thought would come with it (Bounceback Control Center) was omitted, since this drive is
< 100GB. I've spent HOURS trying to figure out how to use it, without success. Unless you are a "super techie", avoid this item.

Product Description
The Seagate Pocket Hard Drive is a standard high-speed USB 2.0, bus-powered device. It provides a true "plug and play" connection that supports hot plugging so you can connect or disconnect the drive even when your computer is on. The drive receives power directly through the USB connector so there is no need for an external power source or batteries. The high-speed USB 2.0 is backward compatible with the older USB 1.1 standard; however, USB 1.1 only supports transfer rates of 12 Mbits/sec. To take advantage of the speed of your Pocket Hard Drive, connect it to a computer that supports high-speed USB 2.0 connections. High-speed USB 2.0 supports data rates up to 480 Mbits/sec (40 times faster than USB 1.1).
Customer Reviews:
Great idea but software sucks.......2007-11-21
I like the design and it is a perfect size for travel and use with a laptop. I also like the idea of having a partitioned hard drive that is passwork protected. Unfortunately, the software that comes with it has a hard time opening and closing and toggling between the partitians. The software also seems to run everytime I start my computer. Annoying.
Poor Life Expectancy.......2007-08-18
My wife gave this to me as a present. The first one failed in two weeks. Amazon was great and sent a replacement. That one failed a month later. I called Seagate to learn how to clean the memory so there were no confidential work files on it, and they couldn't do it. You have to send the unit in to them to be replaced. The problem is that I have confidential financial files on it so I can't just hand it over. They won't let me destroy it before returning the unit.
I treated this thing very gently, but I believe the problem is that it actually has moving parts inside and is not completely digital flash drive.
I would not recommend wasting your money on this one. Go get a drive with no moving parts.
Good.......2005-08-11
The design is really cool.
But there is this annoying blue busy light whenever you access the drive, it is really bright.
And the cable length is a bit small, 6-7 inches maybe. In my hp desktop, the usb port is right in the middle, the cable length is not enough to keep it flat on the desk or put it on top of the cpu box. Not a problem when using it with laptop.
Can be a little faster. I transferred 2gb of songs, it took like 10 minutes.

Seagate.......2007-05-14
I'm not a computer savvy person and I found this product extremely easy to use. The operating instructions are minimal, but if I can figure out how to use it most people should be able to.
Excellent USB 2.0 hard drive from Seagate.......2007-04-27
I've owned this drive for close to five months now and so far have had not one single problem with it. It installed virtually instantly in true plug-and-play fashion when I plugged it into my Windows XP Pro SP2-based main system, and since then it's served as a crucial storage medium for downloaded files (which otherwise I'd have had to burn to DVD, which can get a bit tedious when you have to do it over and over and over again). It comes formatted as FAT by default, but you can reformat it to NTFS if you like, and transfer is ultra-fast over a USB 2.0 connection (do be sure to follow the directions and plug the drive into a USB port on the back of your system, NOT to one of the ports on the front of your case). The only problem is that it's a bit too big for easy transportation in a notebook case, or I'd buy another one right this minute to use with my new/refurbished Thinkpad T30. But as an additional storage unit for a desktop on which HD space is at a premium, it's hard to beat.

Nice little drive.......2007-11-17
It installed with almost no effort. It is very quiet and turns on only when being accessed. The wide base makes it stable on a table.
As with most of the USB2.0 drives, it accesses data a lot slower than the bus can.
Hard Drive crashed - all data gone.......2007-07-05
I bought this product 6 months ago and I just turned it on, and my computer wont recognize the hard drive, and the hard drive is making funny noises. Basically, my data is lost forever. I contacted seagate, and they said if I want a data recovery, it will cost $1,800. This was supposed to be a backup to my computer, but my computer has been more reliable than this junk!

Customer Reviews:
Shopping for a different brand.......2007-11-08
I bought the 250g version and it died within a month. Seagate replaced it. I have had that one for 2 years now and much of my data has disappeared. I am looking for a bigger drive to backup new data and replace the Seagate.
EXCELLENT external hard drive.......2007-07-17
I bought the seagate 400GB external hard drive from Amazon and I love it. It backs-up fast and is extremely user friendly. It comes with the needed back-up software of which many other external drives do not. With 400 GB I have as much memory space as I will ever need. I would highly recommend this product.
good back up drive.......2007-07-16
so esay to use, one button back up did all my files and now sits in a safe place for use every 6 months or so, great in the event lighting or other failures as you'll always have a good backup ...
HORRIBLE SUPPORT.......2007-06-07
Seagate's support is little to none. In fact it's some of the worse support I've ever experienced. If you purchase any products from them make sure you get an extra plan for full replacement and if your data is mission critical go with another brand. Dont go through what I did.
There are also issues with this product and Vista. There is a sleep function that cannot be controlled. When you go to save you have to wait 60 to 90 seconds for the hard drive to wake up from sleep mode. If you do a lot of saving or access the drive a lot, it's not a reasonable solution.
additional storage.......2007-05-12
I do not spend much time using my computer, but wanted space to store all
the albums of pictures dating back many years. The Seagate external drive
fills the bill. It is very easy to use, as is said user friendly.
