WARNING: Your data will be erased!!.......2007-12-29
Warning: Don't install the "update" because it will erase all of your data! I have been using the Cruzer thumb drive for some time. I have never liked it because it installs software on my computer without my permission (is that legal?). I usually have other copies of the data on my thumb drive, but recently a hard drive failed at work so I used my SanDisk thumb drive to back up some important data. Then today when I plugged the thumb drive into my desktop at home, I was prompted to update the software (called LaunchPad I think). I clicked OK. I was looking for some kind of warning to back up data or close all programs or whatever (as is standard). I didn't see any warnings -- just a license agreement. I clicked OK on the license agreement. It immediately started the "update," but the status said "formatting drive." I tried to not freak out. Surely they would not be deleting all of my data with no warning? Surely they could not be reformatting the drive? There is software on there! But when the "update" was complete, I checked and sure enough, the drive was entirely wiped clean! All my files, folders, programs -- everything. GONE! WITH NO WARNING! I couldn't believe it! Is it legal to do this? If it is, it shouldn't be! This is outrageous! I didn't have any other copy of a lot of that data! I called SanDisk, they immediately knew what I was talking about (I'm sure this is happening to lots of other people). They refused to take financial or legal responsibility for their actions. They didn't care about my lost data. No apology. All they would do is refer me to a company, LC Technologies, for data recovery. And get this, they are "partnering" with LC Technologies to offer a "discount" on data recovery. They even have a big link with a special discount code on the Support page for this thumb drive (but no warning about having your data hosed if you install the update). I'll bet you that they are getting a kickback from LC Technologies for sending so much business their way. How evil is that!?!? Not only is SanDisk deliberately deleting data, and not taking responsibility, they are benefitting from it financially at well! This is truly wrong, truly outrageous. I'm going to try to find a class action lawsuit to join.
PLEASE, do yourself a favor, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!
Work-horse.......2007-12-18
For those new to U3 this chip is awesome. I can carry my applications and all my work on this chip and can work with it on virtually any PC. The password protection is especially good in case it gets lost or stollen.
Great Flash Drive.......2007-12-12
I really shopped online before settling on this drive. Its a great price for a good & large capacity drive. As a student I need plenty of capacity at a good price. Plus I always know I'm going to find a good price and can count on the good service here at Amazon.com. Thanks!
Works great also WITH VISTA.......2007-12-03
Only want to say that my SanDisk 4GB Cruzer (bought it today at Circuit City) is vista ready and works fine with it.
So, if you use Vista make sure you get a newer one. I think the solved the problems with Vista.
Also I don't have any problems with the U3. I think it's a real good feature.
Ready Boost works fine too!
As an addition: On my package there was a label calling "enhanced for Windows ReadyBoost"
So if you use Windows Vista make sure you got a drive with this label than you will have no problems.
A Waste Of Money.......2007-12-02
I bought this on sale at Best Buy for $30.00 The information on the disk made it seem as though you could use it for software on different computers. I bought it for my Hallmark card software. Simplicity? I think not. With 4 GB of space I was sure that the card software would work from this drive. NOT. It seems that only U3 programs work with this so called "travel disk". Wish I'd never wasted my money on it. I wish I would have known about the U3 issue. I thought it was a 4 GB drive that I could use with ANY software. It hangs up my brand new VISTA computers (desktop AND laptop.

Small is good........2007-12-26
Tiny, lightweight flash drive. Three soft, non-slip translucent skins in colors. Easily transported in shirt pocket. Reliable. Goes everywhere.
Great value; typical Sandisk quality........2007-12-23
With many products you would be reluctant to purchase "...the low price of the day" but with Sandisk you always know the product will be first rate, and Amazon value-adds by making the purchase simple and complete, down to the tracking and updates. Thanks!
Still great after 3 years.......2007-11-19
I bought this over 3 years ago; and it is still on my keychain, unfortunately overly full.
I have had a number of other USB drives in that time, each of them has failed in some way. My kingston drive had a key ring set into cheap plastic that broke after a month of carrying, I am not even sure where it is anymore. Other drives have had the metal USB sleeve fall off; still others from various manufacturers have simply died.
My only problem has been the protective cap that I lost almost 3 years ago. However, since I carry this drive nearly daily without a problem, I don't really worry about the cap on this model anyhow.
Because of it's performance and reliability, I am actually considering buying another one of these rather than going with a 2 or 4 GB model that I want. I could really use the space, but what good is it if the drive is useless in a few months?> With this model, I know I am getting the best.
Very handy to have.......2007-11-18
When I ordered this, I wasn't sure what to expect, but now that I have it, I'm wondering how I managed to get along without one. The space is plenty more than I need, but I keep all my important files and information on it, and carry it on my key chain so it's with me everywhere I go.
Works great.......2007-11-17
It has been over 2 years since I bought this and it still seems to do the job.

Piece of Junk.......2007-12-25
Stay away from this thumb drive! My girlfriend made the mistake of buying it and everytime you plug it in, it tries to boot up its software. If there is a way of turning it off, its not easy. SanDisk should not force users to run some time-consuming software when they simply need to copy files to and from the drive.
Other than that, the drive runs fine and works smoothly on Mac and PC. Hey at least on the Mac it doesn't try to run its software.
2GB SanDisk Micro Cruzer.......2007-10-19
I've been very happy with this unit - it easily allows me to take files from one computer to the next, to the next ... without any extra steps. The retractable connection makes this a very compact unit, without any extra things falling off. I've found it durable, and reliable - a recommended buy.
Awesome.......2007-10-08
No complaints. Easy to use. Love how theres no cap to fall off in your pocket.
Cruzer vs. NERO! Cruzer works great if...........2007-09-17
...you don't have NERO installed on your computer. I got my Cruzer and plugged it in to my daughter's laptop and was very impressed. I took it to work and plugged it in to a couple of computers there - impressed my co-workers. But then I plugged it in to my home computer and the computer froze up. Every time I plugged it in, my computer froze. I was getting ready to format my hard drive and re-install Windows (thinking darn Microsoft OS is corrupt again) when I came across a little FAQ on Sandisk's web site saying there was a known incompatiblity with NERO software. I have Nero installed - leading me to think this is the issue since the Cruzer works on all of the other computers I've tried it on. The FAQ said that an update would be released soon to patch this issue - that was a year ago and nothing yet. So, Cruzer will probably work great for you IF you don't have NERO installed.

SOFTWARE, NOT HARDWARE??.......2007-12-01
ZERO STARS
BEWARE: SAN DISK THINKS ITS A SOFTWARE COMPANY
I purchased two San Disk Flash Drives with U3 installed. Package mentions the U3 in TINY print (THOUGHT I WAS BUYING A FLASH DRIVE!!). Want to use it as a flash drive, you HAVE to UNINSTALL the software. However, at the San Disk website, it only allows you to remove ONE copy of U3 regardless of owning two Flash Drives.
Think buying a car with a "special radio" installed... only you can't change the station, can't change the BLARING volume, and can't turn it off... did you buy a car or the radio?
I suggest you FIND ANY OTHER BRAND... AND AVOID THIS TURKEY...
Flash drive fine; U3 software a disaster.......2007-09-09
What could be simpler than a flash drive? Apparently a simple but useful, small, keychain format flash drive can't be marketed anymore. I picked one of these up thinking I was just getting 2GB of USB storage. No, I ended up spending the next hour trying to get rid of the virus on this thing. Think you can put a slide presentation or a pictures or video on the drive expecting to simply plug it into your friend's computer and you're up and running? No, on plugging the drive in, the U3 launcher has to start up first. In addition to the new D: drive for the flash drive, another one (H: for me) for a read-only drive is built which may then conflict with a network drive you may already have at that drive letter.
Removing the software isn't obvious either. Simply reformatting the drive doesn't do it -- a small read-only partition has to also be removed and you can't get at it without the U3 uninstaller. An uninstall option is on the settings screen, but it didn't work for me (running XP), saying that for some reason it found two U3 drives (others have had this problem too; you can do a search to see). I finally unmounted the D: drive using Windows' "Safely Remove Hardware" wizard, which also unmounted the read-only partition. Then I downloaded the uninstall app from SanDisk and ran it. No other approach worked for me.
Maybe the concepts behind the U3 software are good. I've been thinking about how to make myself a portable environment on a flash drive myself, which is why I bought this drive. But the implementation of U3 is utterly abysmal. It is slow, intrusive, and (for me at least) was not easy to uninstall. I didn't look in detail through the apps offered through U3 but note that the apps must be *specially written* to run under U3, making it unlikely that most of the more interesting ones will be free. Finally, U3 installation requires registry access -- one thing I want to avoid because in some locations, Internet cafes disable any write access to the C: drive except temporary files, including the registry. This is what spurred me to investigate a portable flash drive environment in the first place.
Most simply put: whoever is behind U3 simply has not thought it through. To force this software on all buyers of Cruzer drives is a huge mistake by SanDisk.
I'm all for building portable environments on a flash drive, but U3 isn't it. I recommend avoiding any device with U3 software on it until the software gets more mature and much better defined.
ReadyBoost - Ready Boost makes the Vista world go around!.......2007-07-17
After you plug this thing in you should get an option to setup ReadyBoost. Ready Boost is Vista way of adding flash memory to your system memory. If you add a gig to your system memory you will notice a serious boost in performance because your system no longer needs to use a paging file on your hard drive.
Do this with a laptop and it because a very inexpensive way of adding a huge performance boost to your laptop. An insane performance boost. Your laptops hard drive spins much slower than your home computer and often has less memory in it. This makes for extremely slow program switching (like surfing the internet and answering email and then going back to microsoft word... it takes a long time to bring it back up, not anymore!).
Another great thing about this stick is the U3 feature. You can load runnable programs on this stick. Makes it so you can take your browser options with you when you use an Internet cafe's computer. Also you can bring a kit with you to take back grandma's computer. Your anti-virus, search and destroy, etc...
Excellent device!!.......2007-06-27
This product is really great! Super fast, light, the u3 software is very useful and there are good products for it which I hope will be more in future.
big disappointment.......2007-06-23
I already had a SanDisk 1 GB flashdrive. However this 2 GB with U3 technology is full of problems. I checked the manufacturer's website, and it listed 20 error messages and possible solutions.

Customer Reviews:
Little is fantastic!.......2007-09-23
I've never gone for small before (I lose things), or decorative (seemed frivolous), or anything less than 4gb (too much hassle selecting out all the files you actually need that evening because the entire folder won't fit on your USB stick). But when I happened upon this stick in a store, I took one look at the colored skins and thought "Now THAT would be handy. Maybe when I lend this stick to someone else, I'll get it back." And besides, it was super cheap.
Now that I've actually used it, I am amazed. The skins do their job: you get three colors (counting the white one), making it easy to keep track of which stick is which. There's a label for your name and phone number, the kind of AHA! extra that makes you wonder why nobody thought it years ago. Same goes for the blazingly bright light at the tip (much easier to see than the light on the computer drive) that lets you know when the stick is in use.
But the pièce de résistance is its size: it actually FITS in the awkwardly-angled, horribly positioned USB port on the front of my computer. It's the first USB stick I've ever had that doesn't require me to crawl around on the floor in the dark behind the computer (or conduct UN-level negotiations with my USB hub and the computer to come to some sort of understanding) to get access to the files on the stick.
And I don't have to worry about losing it: it comes with a ring to attach it to a keychain, and a lanyard for those who prefer to wear it around the neck.
I am extremely happy. If I don't experience any of the durability issues others have had, I'm going to buy an entire set. Bye-bye long, elegant, professional-looking USB sticks! You've been replaced.
Great product.......2007-08-21
Very small, can fit anywhere. Works perfectly and the price was awesome. Just be careful of losing it, it really is quite tiny.
SanDisk 256 MB Micro Cruzer.......2007-07-25
Works great! Very easy and so far very reliable. Larger capacities are now available, which may be of interest if you want to use this as a backup for your large folders (or even most of the data files on your hard drive), but for transfering files or folders from one machine to another this works just fine and the prices have tumbled, making them a real bargain as compared with multi GB versions.
Very convenient.......2007-07-04
I use this little USB stick almost every day. I just keep it in my pocket so it's always there when I need it. The skins aren't really necessary but if you have more than one it's a good way to distinguish between them.
Great Little Device. Sandisk has a great product line........2007-01-31
This is a great little device, had have used other products by Sandisk and the keep getting smaller and more powerful. Good deal for the money.

Customer Reviews:
Small but tough.......2006-09-27
I bought mine about a year ago. Everything works fine, and the drive takes up next to no space in my pocket. So little in fact, that I accidentally ran it through the washer and dryer one time. To my surprise, the drive emerged intact and is still running great!
Okay at first..........2006-09-20
The Cruiser Micro 1.0 Gb comes with three colored(mine were pink, blue and clear) sleeves that act as a cap for the device itself. Depending on its current use, they slide on and off the flash drive.
...but they slide a bit too easily.
So when you're all out of sleeve, your poor flash drive has nothing to protect it from the harmful elements of your book bag or the static on your sweater when you wear it around your neck.
BUT, this flash drive never had a chance to lose all three sleeves. It died randomly when I was trying to save a programming project on it. It started off saving like it usually does, but this this time it took a ridiculous long time for a file that was under 2 Mb. But I let it save anyways without disturbance. After about 5 minutes, it finished, or at least, the save window closed. I opened up Windows Explorer but was unable to access my hard drive. The drive never worked again. Please note that while the drive was connected to my PC it wasn't smacked, touched or jarred as my tower is several feet away from all physical motion.
On the bright side while it was still working, I enjoyed all that external harddrive space. And the bright LED that lit up was particularly useful when figuring out if data was still being sent from the computer. I didn't care for the programs that came with it, but it had some sort data encrypter if anyone is interested.
All in all, I think I got what I paid for.
It's not portable........2006-07-29
If it were, it would have been designed with a sleeve that didn't fall off in your pocket, when you don't notice it, etc. It comes with three sleeves (is this an admission of a design flaw?), and in less than 3 months, I've lost all three.
It's no longer a portable keychain usb drive, if it's unprotected in your pocket. If you plan on using this as a daily workhorse, in and out of your pocket, you'll soon lose the caps and sleeves.
Recommended - survived two laundry cycles so far..........2006-06-04
This is a hardy little flash drive. I've owned it for about 1 year and it helped me while I finished school. It has also become an invaluable work resource on the road. It's been through the laundry twice and come out with flying colors.
Pros:
1. Large file capacity makes it easy to transfer data files, pictures, and music files with ease.
2. Hardy body style (metal with rubber sleeve, much better than old plastic body style)
3. Small size makes caring it around a breeze
4. Slim design does not block other USB ports - this is one of my favorite features and the reason I own 2 San Disk flash drives.
Con's:
1. While rubber sleeve is nice, it can slide off easily, not sure I would have made this a removable feature
2. Not easy to snap cap on back of unit. I really like a feature that keeps me from losing the cap, old San Disk allowed for this.
3.I didn't end up using the locking software. It was a bit confusing, so I simply deleted it from the flash drive.
Overall:
Good product, slim and easy to carry around. Worth looking at if you are searching for a good flash drive at a reasonable price. Make sure you do your research to find one that best fits your needs. I think San Disk has some newer models that I would consider next time I buy, if I can ever manage to break it...
life saver.......2006-05-23
great product. file transfers from my computer are a snap, and the unit is very responsive. absolutely no complaints whatsoever. a true lifesaver for quick backups of your most critical files (which for 1GB, means a lot for me).

So far so good........2005-07-19
I bought this 128MB flash drive a month ago because of its low price and because I don't need something as big as 256MB. So far this SanDisk 128MB Cruzer Micro has done the job. It's really fast with USB 2.0 and works just fine with USB 1.1. I've also used it with both WinXP and Mac OS X. I have had no problems.
Cruzer Micro Disappointment.......2005-03-27
I got my Cruzer Micro in Sept. of 2004. It worked beautifully until 6 months later, then half of my files became corrupted on the disk. I did some research on this and found out that it has also happenend with other 128mb cruzer micro flash drives. I have also read that San Disk will charge you a $40 fee for a program that is supposely supposed to reformat the drive. This is going into the garbage and I am sticking with a new brand.
Rugged and Reliable.......2005-01-04
This is my first flash drive and I am very impressed with this device. I'm currently a college student and use the flash drive for my computer programming class. I'm working on a semester-long project at home and school so it's very important that I have a reliable device.
Firstly the Micro is a very durable piece of equipment. Despite several drops and bumps I've had no problems at all. It's rubberized coating seems to help with this as well. It's size is fairly small so there is no problem carrying it with you and it can be hooked to a keyring or the included neck strap.
The file transfer speed is very fast. Larger files may take several seconds but smaller file transfer is almost instantaneous. The 128 MB size is fine for my purposes right now, but with price drops I will probably go for the 256 or 512 version on my next purchase.
The Micro has a bright blue LED light that is on constantly and flickers when the drive is in use. This light is very helpful in reminding me to stop the device before removing it. There are two different caps included and unlike other reviewers, I've never had a problem with them popping off.
Overall I'm very happy with this flash drive and will look to SanDisk again when I need another one.

SanDisk.......2007-12-29
Great product, and the transaction went down smoothly, got the product really quick
Thanks!
U3 not for me.......2007-12-27
I am a loyal SanDisk user, but the U3 software that comes on this drive isn't for me and I sent it back. To cumbersome, and even though I found instructions and download, I couldn't remove or disable the software. I like things simple, and his item didn't meet my needs and I sent it back. It is a fast drive, and I could transfer files quickly, but there is no need to add 3-4 mouse additional clicks to install or remove a drive.
SanDisk--please make a 2+ GB Flash drive without U3!
BL
OK product.......2007-12-27
the flash memory itself seems to be OK, but than again there is no real way of telling in advance, since by definition flash memory is a very reliable product. the main differences between the manufacturers are the outer cover and/software. with this product, the plastic shell fills cheap, and retrospecting, I would have added the additional 7$ or so and get the titanium model. at least there is a 2 year warranty. the U3 software is really nice, and actually upgrades the unit from simple storage level to an almost portable PC. I only wish that there would be a free U3 anti virus. this is a basic tool on this kind of product (helping friends and family recovering their PC and so on). there is a free portable anti virus (clamshell), but it is not U3 compatible.
sandisk 4 gb cruzer micro.......2007-12-24
Great product, very portable and password protected. Many extra features such as games. Excellent for the price
Seems flimsy but works okay........2007-12-24
Pros--4gb gives lots of room, the u3 lets me run my bookcollector/libray software on multiple computers so I can track my many books at work and home, including those I lend to other folk. No cap to lose is great.
Cons--nothing serious so far. The thing's a bit flimsy feeling, but has not broken, seems to be mostly plastic, but oddly, that makes me treat it gently so I probably will not break it. No lanyard comes with it, but there's a ring to slip one through if you feel the need.
Overall, it's good enough that I'm considering getting the 8gb size soon.
Average customer rating:
- Very Impressed...
- Good Product but we don't know what this U3 this...

Customer Reviews:
Very Impressed..........2007-12-26
I've had this device for a few weeks, and it has done what it's designed to do. The U3 is a bit annoying, but it's durability is what impressed me the most. I've read other reviews that suggest otherwise, but this little bugger made it through a cycle in my washing machine and still works.
Good Product but we don't know what this U3 this..........2007-12-25
Everything looks good. Except this U3. I wish someone can explain, in simpler terms what in the world it does to an average consumer.
It is like the sales rep in Circuit city rep saying " It has got 120Hz and a video processor blah blah"....all fine but what in the world does that bring to me? So sales reps or anyone doesn't seem to understand this simple question!
Great Buy.......2007-12-24
Awesome buy --
Paid about $12 for 2GB, took 3 minutes to uninstall the U3 program that annoys everyone, and ended up with a very fast and very nice product.
Thanks SanDisk :-) Thanks Amazon :-)
Outrageously intrusive U3 software makes this product less than worthless........2007-12-10
Any conceivable positive the product might have is overwhelmed by the awful U3 software. Plug this darn thing in and it literally takes over your computer installing an obnoxious program without your permission. Sure, you can figure out how to eventually uninstall it, but is it takes precious time.
It is hard for me to believe that any engineer or product designer anywhere could have OK'd this design. It is just plain utterly and completely without redeeming value for 99% of all users.
Avoid this product like the plague. Unless, of course, you enjoy products that are poorly designed and intrusive to boot.
ZERO stars, if this was possible. Unadulterated garbage. It offends me that any US corporation could have been so stoopid.
Good memory, too much bling.......2007-12-01
This is not your typical plug-it-in and click save. This product has way more programming on it than the usual user needs, like skype, etc. There's even a superfluous "intro" you have to go through before using the thing. Seems to work ok for the moment, though. Who knows? Maybe I'll end up using the skype.

Cruzer to Where Your Going.......2007-12-27
This Sandisk item is great! The U3 feature makes traveling and working on different computers a breeze. The included software helps me use and manage my data. Other software can easily be added from various websites. I now want the 16gb version because carrying additional data to use with my U3 software makes it easier to get my work done!
Finally enough space!.......2007-12-18
I've had this thing for a little over two weeks and I love it. I finally have enough space to hold all my critical backups and then some. I can't speak to its durability since I've only had it for a short while, but I accidentally washed my 4gb Cruzer along with a load of laundry and not only did it still work perfectly afterward, THERE WAS NO LOSS OF DATA WHATSOEVER! These things are tough! Can't wait for the 16gb Cruzer so I can devote a full 4gb to Vista's ReadyBoost and still have 12gb left over for general data storage.
Works for me.......2007-11-01
I figured I'd chime in because I've had mine since Xmas and use it at work almost daily. No issues at all. works great. I suppose I might mention that the keyring is not advisable since it looks kinda week but I keep mine in my pocket.
Very nice..only for a month though..........2007-10-31
I bought this because of two reasons. Huge capacity (8gb) and Capless design (Never have to worry about loosing a cap). I really enjoyed using it and really really liked it. But sadly and luckily, it stopped working exactly after 30 days (I bought it from Bestbuy, which had 30-day return policy. SO I at least got my money back although what's stored inside was priceless....!!!) I ALWAYS use safe removal feature of the Windows. I saved all my critically important data and documents, but the device just wouldn't be recognized. Not even a "Device not recognized" ballon on the lower right hand corner when plugged in. It just refuses to be recognized as if nothing is inserted into the usb port!!. Tried every possible way to retrieve the data, but ended up loosing all my experiment data. Should have done back-up regularly. Hope others had a better luck with this device.
Good little Cruzer.......2007-10-30
It's a SanDisk, it's good. Like all U3 drives I removed it. I want storage not application space.
Unlike earlier and smaller Cruzers this one feels lightweight and cheap. Also, I didn't want one with moving parts such as this, but I wanted the capacity and for it to be a SanDisk.
Doesn't come with a lanyard as earlier versions did. The plastic assembly is kind of cheap and hokey, especially where the key chain ring attaches.
The only functional gripe that I have is that because of its footprint (due to the moving parts) two flash drives can't be plugged into adjacent USB ports in most cases.
-SanDisk, part of the idea behind solid state devices is to make them small. So, what happened to that?
