Fast but a little light.......2007-11-25

Overall I'm very satisfied with this burner. It's fast and reliable. I've burned hundreds of DVDs on it with no problem. My only complaint is that the burning is a little too faint. You can solve the problem by burning twice, but that can be difficult if you're burning a large volume of DVDs. Apart from that complaint, it's a good product and well worth the money.

Lacie Lightscribe.......2007-11-24

The drive itself was well built. I had much higher expectations of the lightscribe image quality. I returned the drive based on the poor burn quality of the lightscribe label and bought a CD printer instead. While the concept is good, the end result doesn't meet my expectations. I am a photographer and I was looking for photo-quality. Probably an unfair expectation on my part.

I bought this yesterday, so far awesome. A little more than I wanted to spend (stupid pc compatible only prices!) 4 stars only because I just got it.

Look around for a while to find a burner for my mac mini. I had a cheap plextor drive the said it was compatible however I never got it to burn a working dvd, even with toast 8. This drive cost a little more but it was well worth it. I plugged it in and that was it...no configuring for the ilife suite. Now I can use imovie and idvd with no problems. I have a cheaper dvd player that has a weak laser so I was suprised when my new burned dvd's worked perfectly on it. Great burner I highly recommend it

I bought this external unit for the lightscribe technology, and it works great. Very nice appearance and runs quiet. I like to make custom CD's for "traveling" music, with the selection of songs I want to hear. AND, the software included with this unit makes that so easy, gathering songs from whatever location they are stored and putting them in the order I want. Then, it goes directly to some very nice templates for printing a cover, or booklet, for the CD case. And that's just one program. There's also a program for seting up the label to burn directly on the lightscribe disc's. It's a little harder to learn, but it also has some great features. I can select an image from my documents and use that as a background for the face of the CD. I wish the image would burn a little darker on the CD, but that's the technology and not the fault of the LaCie burner. I HAVE tried burning it twice, same image, Yep it will work, and makes it a little darker. Takes over 30 minutes to burn at the "best" image, and about 12 minutes at the "medium" setting. I'm happy with the purchase from Amazon, both price, service, and delivery.

Beware LaCie AND ANTOnline. Received defective item--tray would not open and software would not load; had to download from manufacturer's website. No joy on tray. Tech Support told me to send it back. No humans at customer service to issue RMA--everything submitted by email--and you get your response in broken English days later. ANTonline refuses to send an RMA--notified me that I need to send it back to manufacturer who will then decide if they will repair or replace it. No refund possible. I would shy away from this and any other product from ANTOnline--they do not support their products.

Two years with no problems.......2007-06-13

I have used this for two years with no problems. I have used it with three macs--2 G5s and a mini. I cannot speak for PC uses, but I have had good performance on macs.

Poor Quality Control, Poor Performance.......2007-05-20

I have been a fan of LaCie hard drives for many years, so I am doubly dissapointed in this external DVD burner. The first one started failing to write either DVDs or CDs after about 5 days. I contacted LaCie, and after several hours of trying different cables, upgrading firmware, different computers, etc., they gave me a return authorization. I sent it back (at my expense) and in return got a second one which was dead right out of the box. The third one finally works - sort of. It writes DVDs or CDs just fine, but many DVDs that mount and play just fine in my DVD player or any of our 3 Macs will not mount using the LaCie. I am not going to waste any more time and money trying to get LaCie to replace this one unless it fails completely. At this point I have no confidence that the replacement would be any better.

Firewire Connection Was Messed Up.......2007-04-24

I bought this hoping it would cure my busted Superdrive on my G4 iMac but when connected via the Firewire it would freeze any program I was using to burn cd's or dvd's. I thought it might have been a messed up product so I returned it to Lacie and got another one but the problem still persisted.

I then thought it was my computer, but the firewire ports worked when connected to my old iPod and even worked when connected to my Lacie external HDD. Finally figured that the product was defective after I purchased the Sony DRX-830 dvd burner and that burner worked perfectly when connected via firewire.

This product however worked when connected on the USB port but the burning speeds were so slow that it was just about useless.
