I bought these earbuds in July, it's now December and they have crapped out on me. I feel like my use of them was normal. I'd use them with my little Sandisk Sansa Express player, carrying it all around in my pocket.
What happened is the end by the plug has become flexed too much I guess. I have to twist and turn the wire in order to hear sound in the right ear now. They are basically worthless to me at this point. The plastic is just not very protective of the wires inside.
They were good until they broke. I liked the different sizes of ear canal attachments.

I have never written a review on amazon.com, or any website for that matter, and I've been online shopping for a very long time. These headphones are what I've been looking for for so long. I never thought I especially had a difficult time fitting earbuds in my ears, but somehow these so much better than any earphones I've ever had. The bass is perfect (even though it is always adjustable via EQ for iPod owners), and the noise reducing actually is TRUE, unlike most earphone claims, as I can have my iPod set to half volume and I still don't hear my obnoxiously loud fish tank at home or people talking while they walk by me on campus.
Also, I can have my iPod up all the way on volume and I don't hear one crack in the sound, even on my hardest and loudest songs.
And once again, I CANNOT get over how amazingly these fit, just with the original size of the rubber covers still on them. I've yet to try out the other sizes, but if they fit even better, I'm convinced that I will continue to buy these headphones for the rest of my musical life.
BUY THEM. I would have paid four times the amount I paid for these if I knew they were these good ahead of time.
Earphones just don't get better than this. I can't even imagine how they could.

I had to return the product because one bud was noticeably louder than the other. Ignoring this problem, the sound was just okay and there was no real noise reduction. The black rubber that goes in your ear is thin and hollow, so it does nothing to block outside noise. There are other options such as a colby on amazon for around $5 that would be just as good for a third of the price.

I bought these to replace my worn-out Sony MDR-EX71SL Fontopia In-The-Ear Headphones (Black) and stupidly, thought I would save a few bucks by buying the Jlab earbuds this time around. I had become quite attached to the in-ear design, having discovered that it gives vastly superior sound quality and outside-sound blocking above the old style of standard earphone designs. I thought, well, these are in-ear headphones, they surely give similar quality sound, right? Wrong. After trying them out for a day, I got curious and plugged in my old Sonys (ragged but still functioning) and the difference was dramatic. The Sonys gave crisp highs and booming bass, and clear sound. The Jlabs, by comparison, was like listening to music underwater. So take it from me, spend the extra $10 or $20 and get yourself some Sonys or equivalent mid-price range headphones.

Pretty darn good for $5 headphones.......2007-12-26
This product is a steal. I'm no audiophile, but it sounds quite decent to me. I've been using it almost everyday for about a month now and it still hasn't died on me. I was worried that it wouldn't have the noice-reducing capabilities of my old j-buds, but they do, so i'm a very happy customer. Why not 5 stars? They don't come in black and it makes me worry that they'll randomly die on me any day now.

While not the best in-ear headphones, the price of these certainly makes them better than almost anything else on the market. Not as comfortable as the apple version, but at 1/4 the price the difference is negligable. They do turn up the bass when used with an ipod, but using the "bass reducer" equalizer setting seemed to fix any problems. All in all, a good buy.

I've used lots of earphones and these are superb. Great sound quality and very comfortable, I sometimes forget I even have earphones on. Only problem is that it takes little work to get the earphone to stay in my ear because I have big ears, but once it's in it's smooth sailing. Watch out for the silicone tips though, I accidentally stepped on the earphone and it fell off, it was pretty easy to put it back in though but nonetheless be careful.

Nothing special about these headphones. When properly placed in the ears they do cut out external sound to a degree. Decent sound for the price.

Great quality for the price. However if you plan to walk or run with your earphones never purchase this item. At least in my case they fall off a few times a minute while walking. I ended up taking off the plastic seal and then put them in my ear. Then it worked ok.

Don't be dissipointed at first.......2007-12-25
Received these as a Christmas gift to complement my new iTouch. I did a bit of research and decided to ask for these rather than the Sonys that my roommate rants and rants about. After my initial run I was extremely disappointed. On first listen everything was clear but if boosted the bass a little bit I felt like the earphones could have used a compressor of some sorts - I was hearing some crackling and unpleasant noises due to the increase in low frequencies. Now I agree with most of the other reviewers on this product - most people without a clue about EQing and audio quality have bass far too loud and, honestly, its not tasteful. But with the original eartips the bass response was just unacceptable. So I did some reading and saw to try out the foam eartips. I was completely blown away. They sounded like different earphones. It is so crucial to get a good seal in your ears or the bass suffers. Don't giv eup before trying the foam eartips!

This is my second pair of etymotics - I lost my first pair, but they lasted a couple of years. I LOVE these - you have to get used to having something in your ear, but to me they are more comfortable and provide better noise isolation than the bulky Bose headphones I have - and they require NO batteries. These are lifesavers considering I travel over 150K miles a year on planes...
extremely disappointed.......2007-12-22
I purchased my COWON I7 a couple of weeks ago. The stock earpieces, being rigid round plastic, are extremely uncomfortable, and I had read buying after-market earphones was the way to go to enhance sound and comfort.
I decided to try the Etymotic Research ER6i earbuds because they looked far more comfortable, and some of the reviews revealed good sound as long as they were placed correctly.
Out of the box, the Etymotic earphones were missing the replacement tool that was listed in the package documentation as included. I was able to change earpieces without it. The problem is that the moment I put these in, I was appalled. The sound was extremely tinny and thin, reminiscent of the cheap free portable radios banks or casinos give away as a promotion. I tried the different earpieces included in the kit, crammed them DEEP into my ears, and tried different settings on my Cowon equalizer. Although by doing so I got slightly better bass response, the overall sound was very thin and weak. The leads going to the earpieces also were very thin, transmitted noise, and the main lead had a very sharp kink in it (over 90 degree) from being tie-wrapped/packaged incorrectly. It was inevitable that the cord would soon break at that point.
My Cowon stock earbuds have a more substantial cord, do not transmit movement noises through the cord, and have far better sound quality. The only downfall is the discomfort, which is substantial. I have to believe I can buy a $67 pair of aftermarket earbuds that have at least the quality of the stock ones, with some added comfort. The Etymotic earphones are headed back to Amazon for a refund as I type this. I give these one star because they are slightly better than using no headphones at all.
Ear Buds.......2007-12-21
They fit my ear really well, great on long airplane flights (block out a lot of unwanted noise, eg crying baby). Slightly concerned about pulling the wire out from the ear bud but so far that they have been great. Much more worth the money than Shures lower level earbuds, at least in my opinion. The bass isn't going to be thumping like regular headphones if thats what your looking for, but if you want more crisp treble and midrange. these are worth it
Good Earphones for the price.......2007-12-18
I got these specifically for flying and they work very well. I prefer the inner ear earphones over around the ear noize canceling headphones for travel. These are small and effective.

These are my second set of Shure headphones and I was greatly pleased with my first pair but they broke at fault of myself. I got these headphones and what pleased as soon as I opened the packaging. They look and sound great. Once you get them set right in your ear, they have a great balance of highs, mids, and lows. I have recommended these headphones to many of my friends already.
Great Earphones for the price.......2007-12-16
I bought the earphones for my Ipod because the Ipod earphones just didn't fit well in my ears. And they kept falling out. I did think twice about spending $99 on earphones but I have found that they are well worth the money. It does take a little time to get the correct fit. But when you do they are GREAT. I saw a review on Amazon saying that they still didn't know if they are noise canceling. No they are NOT noise canceling. They are noise isolating. Because how they fit in your ear, the only thing you are going to hear is the music coming from your earphones. I was recently on a 2 hour flight from Denver to SF and a baby was crying (screaming) for 2 hours.... and I never heard a thing. Oh, and I bought a pair for my girlfriend so they will not fall during her workouts.
My girlfriend doesn't care for the length of the cord. It's longer than most. Doesn't bother me. Forget the Bose earphones... get Shure!

Shure does make very good earphones technicalwise. Its sound isolation and quality are superior.
However, I have to say, compared to other earphones, this one lacks fine design at its price. For example, the string is very thicker and stiffer than other ones which make it not only less stylish but also hard to keep it in a small pocket.
The way to wear it may not be too comfortable for people who wear glasses, because you have to wire the string around your ear.
break-in & burn-in.......2007-12-01
All QUALITY components need a break-in / burn-in time before they will sound their best.
I Bought a set of $450.00 AGK headphones a while back and at first I thought I made a bad choice.
So I just plugged them and played them for about 20 hrs @ 1/2 volume and then listened to them. ( BIG Difference.)
Same thing when I got my Martin Logan ( Clarity ) electroststic speakers $2,800 a pair.
So bang on them and then give your opinion.
And never skimp on the cost of your speakers!!
P.S. all quality components will need a warm up time of at least 20/30 minutes after sitting for any time to sound there best.

Not worth it! Falls out of your ear..........2007-10-17
This item is a disappointment to me. The plugs need to fit perfectly or else they will fall out of your ear. The manufacturer suggests you wrap the wire around your ear. This is very uncomfortable and if the cord gets caught on something it will pull my ear off. They sound good but not great. I wish I bought these in a retail store so I could return them easier, but I guess I'm stuck with them now. I suggest you pass on these.

i find that the headset is good to have for online play, but you have to be careful with it because it it is really, really delicate. if you can find a stronger headset that would work better, but this headset is light and very affective.
Unreliable....don't waste your money.......2007-11-26
This headset is unreliable. After only owning it for approximately 7 weeks, the audio became garbled and would fade in and out. I was going to replace it with another, but different persons told me NOT to buy another one. They said a better headset is made by Planetronics. Even if you think the wireless headset by Microsoft will work better (but costs triple), the complaints with that have been: batteries need constant recharging and the audio also fades in and out. AARRGH! If you are determined to buy one by Microsoft anyway, save your receipt just in case. And if they offer an extended warranty, you may consider that as a backup option!!!

It's pretty comfortable, pretty high quality, and is decently loud. Fine for communicating in games that require it. If the game doesn't use it much, though, you don't need it at all.

This headset is just all right, it's basically a no frills style that just gives you the basics and that is it. The sound quality from the ear piece isn't all that great and the mice does like to pick up other sounds some times as it's not really a directional microphone. I would have liked a little more for the 20 bucks but hey Microsoft is a little cheap when it comes to comforts. They want you to spend the buck for the extras.

They're great sending the product and was kept well informed, Price was good, whoever the quality of the remote seems strange. I have used hundreds of Sony Products and this one seems very cheap in it's construction. I suspect that's a Chinese version. My main reason for the purchase was to be able to chat over SOCOM however....it wont do it even though I remove all security settings as instructed. I have my doubts on the quality of the product.

Summarizing what other have said: The cord is too long, no foam comfort pads, but at least you can connect other earphones (making it larger) if you fell it much uncomfortable. The sound is ok. Another problem I found is the clip. If you are already hearing music and you want to put the control in your shirt or wherever using the clip you probably will press the control buttons.

I had been looking everywhere for a different headphone from the ones that Nintendo themselves actually put out for the DS. I have 2 pairs of these headphones from them to go with my two DS's. I have one by my bed and one in the bathroom. Anyway, to get back to the subject...The "other" headphones have to be "wrapped" over each ear and there is no adjustment for ear or head size and NO microphone either. When you need to talk to someone in another room, you need to completely take these ear buds off and then proceed to what I think is a hassle to put them back on. So, I had been looking for months for headphones like these from Turtle Beach. The fact that the pink doesn't exactly match the DS itself is not a problem....it may be off by a slight shade of pink. But.....these headphones are awesome!!! Easy to take off, put on (the right ear side has an "R" on it), and the fact that the microphone is "right there" in front of your mouth is an added bonus. I have breathing problems and I couldn't use my breath well enough to blow into the DS's mike. Now I can because the microphone is right there in front of my mouth. I want to thank Turtle Beach immensely for these wonderful headphones. I am now going back to order a second pair for my other DS system!
Color not exactly as pink nintendo ds-but my grand loves it .......2007-07-19
My grandaughter stated she had to have this to communicate with her pink nintendo DS Lite, after I got it I noticed it was not exactly the same color as the Nintendo DS Lite but it works just fine.
I'm buying one for my 2 nieces as they are getting the pink Nintendo DS
Lites for Christmas & since my grandaughter loves it, I know they will also like it.
Not a bad buy, it seems sturdy I just hopes it lasts..Don't want to spend another $20.

Really nice sound, as expected from turtle beach products, Sensitive microphone (possibly a little too sensitive.), Volume control. sturdy wire with wire guards at all ends to prevent fraying at wire entry points. And a few color choices to pick from. Your kid will probably love it, and be able to use it a while.... However.. It's not the most practical design. It should have been constructed with a Right angle DS Mic/Audio jack. It's jack juts outward and down, which bends the wire hard, when tired little arms begin to sag from hours of play. It's not the most practical headset either. It's jack does not come with an adapter to convert the DSJack into a standard headphones and audio jack, So don't buy this one thinking that you'll have universal headset compatibility. Additionally, there is no "Mute" button on the cord for the microphone. Though few games utilize the Mic functions of the DS as is, A Mute function might be preferable for those Metroid Hunter matches, when you dont want your friends to hear you curse in channel, because you dropped the DS on your toe.

While the headphones themselves are decent, the remote part of this product is completely unusable. If you listen carefully, you'll hear a soft bzz...bzz...bzz... continuously in the background whenever the remote is plugged into your PSP. I've tried multiple headphones plugged straight into the PSP and have not had this problem. I've also tried plugging different sets of headphones into this remote (the headphones that come with this are detachable, so any set of headphones can be used with the remote section), and no matter which pair I use, I hear the buzzing noise.
I know this problem isn't unique to me either. I've come across posts on various online forums where other users have this problem too.
I love my new PSP-2000, but Sony really screwed up with this headphone/remote control set. There really is no reason to buy this product. Just spend your money on a nice set of headphones and hope that Sony releases a fixed remote control.

I got my ER4's a couple of days ago, all I can say is whoa Nellie!! Previously, I thought that my Etymotic ER6I's were perfectly fine (and indeed they are...), but these ER4's really take things to a whole new level of sound sweetness. The best way to explain it is to compare the first time you saw a DVD picture, compared to a VHS picture (or nowadays blu-ray).
I have to admit...I could never (with a clear conscience) pay $190.00 for a set of earphones, luckily I've spent enough money on my Amazon Visa card, where these sweet babies only cost me $80.00, after I applied my coupons.
So, if you find yourself with some `extra' dough, go ahead take the plunge...

Fantastic product, great sound and fantastic noise isolation. Much better thatn the Bose Noise Cancelling porducts. Provides great sound isolation without coloring the sound the way Bose, or any active noise canceling product, does.
Had ER-4's for fourteen years, they finally gave out, over 4 million air miles. Bought the ER-4P's and like them even more with my iPod.

Etymotics ER-4P's are very good headphones, however they make a funny sound when you walk or run with them, it might have to due with their skinny cords bumping against you, when you walk or run

I bought these to replace a lost pair of Shure 2e's. I liked the Shure's sound but wanted to try something different. I use this style of headphone mostly for noise attenuation while travelling and sometimes exercising. I'm not an especially demanding audiophile, but I like a clean, balanced sound that delivers clear bass and crisp treble. The Etymotic's sound is pretty much what I wanted: bright but not too; and nice, clean bass. The sound they recreate from my 3G ipod Classic's rock, jazz, classic, & electronica is warm and spacious. Sometimes I have to adjust the EQ settings to keep the music's "presence" focused. Those wanting thumping low frequencies should look elsewhere.
Having worn earplugs for a lot of activities, I'm comfortable using in-ear earphones. The Etymotics have to go in deeper than Shures for best performance, so some may find these in particular uncomfortable to wear. Once in, they stay put. One thing to note: for me at least, they require micro-fine adjustment once in to get the sound balanced ear-to-ear.
Travelling, the Etymotic's noise isolation is very, very good: jet noise pretty much disappears and screaming children in the row behind you are reduced to dim background noise. On the other hand, I have to pull one out to hear and talk with someone; I wouldn't dare use them biking or rollerblading. I used to use Bose noise-cancelling headphones, which were very comfortable, but I found they only took the edge off crying babies and cellphone shouters. In-ear 'phones are superior for reducing these kind of aural assaults.
What keeps me from giving them five stars is their design and questionable long-term durability. The Etymotics don't seem to be designed to be worn with the wires wrapped over the ear like the Shures. So the wires move around some, sending movement noise into your head. The cord is long enough though for sticking your player in an airline seatback pocket. The wires to the earphones look delicate; I'd be concerned if I used them daily. More points off for how easily they tangle; I've yet to find a method to keep them untangled when stored. I understand that Etymotic Research was probably wanting to minimize weight, but the braided wires to the earpieces look cheap and tacky; they remind me of the white plastic mono earplug that came with cheap transistor radios years ago. No retro style points there. Also be aware the silicone flanges and foam eartips in the box come in one size only.
I have to admit the ER-4P's box and carrying pouch helped sway my purchase decision. They come in a sturdy plastic box with organizing slots for each item: extra flanges and filters, travel pouch, and 1/4" adaptor. The travel pouch has an inside pocket to store adaptors and extra flanges. My old Shure's case held only the headset, so these other things were always floating around my carry-on bag and eventually disappearing.
So in all I'm very pleased with the ER-4P's sound, noise isolation, and comfort. Some design elements could use improvement, and I've my doubts about the set's long-term durability. That said, I recommend these being worth a try.
