Absolutely Incredible Headphones!.......2007-12-26
A while back in 2006, I bought a pair of Sony headphones that cost around $50. Those were good, but for mostly bass reproduction. They sounded like basstubes people put in their cars. But these Bang & Olufsen A8 headphones? Their quality are all-around good! I know the bass isn't as good as some, but the quality and craftmanship are just out of this world!
The kind of music I suggest listening with these headphones are some Jim Brickman songs [Escape, Hero's Dream, and Paradise.] These songs just bring out the awesomeness of these headphones!
The A8 are so worth every single penny you use to buy them!
Beware of Fakes on Ebay.......2007-10-22
Ebay definitely sells a lot of fake bang & Olufsen headphones. I bought one from ebay as well and as soon as I opened it, even before listening to it, I could tell that they were fake. The quality of the packing said everything, I even tried it on and sure enough they were fake, so I returned them and I was lucky enough to get a full refund on them. I hope people don't buy this product on internet (except from Bang & Olufsen official site) because that really gives people the wrong idea. Also if any one has bought it for less than $160, you can bet that they are fake as Bang & Olufsen does not have any sales in their store and the price is same all through out, you might even find it to be more expensive if you buy it at the airport's duty free shops. They can go up to $195 or higher.

I feel sorry for those who buy this on eBay. eBay is full of fake earphones. I can buy fake versions of these or Shure or Senn CX300 earphones direct from China but they don't sound the same. For that reason, if someone reviews a set they bought on eBay, I'd say that they didn't get the real thing.

I find buying headphones especially before trying them out a pain in the neck! First off, I have and ipod w/the normal ear phones and they are ok. Easy to put in your ear, decent sound, but I thought there has to be something better. So I bought the Sure EC2's. They are a pain to get into your ear that is why I don't normally wear them, you can't hear anything that is going on around BUT the sound is incredible and the design seems indestructible. Now I see these, the A8's. I bought them on ebay, cheaper. They seem nice but there is not enough ways to adjust them, they say there is but really I needed another one to get it in my ear properly. The sound is good but nothing I was shocked by. I had to turn the eq to trebble booster to make them sound better and to me I shouldn't have had to do that. They do seem comfortable though, more so than the other two ear phones, so I hope in future use that will make up the difference. Another thing, they aren't loud, even with the eq on loudness so watch out. They really have a nice look to them too. All in all these ear phones are ok but for $160. they should awesome. If your not used to good sound you will like these.

I have been searching for MONTHS to find a pair of headphones that wouldn't fall off my ears during exercise. The few pairs that I have found that did stay put, would just sound awful and make my music sound as if it were playing inside a tin can. Although the price tag on this pair was a bit high for my liking, after adding up the prices of all the other headphones I have tried over the past six months, these are still a bargain by comparison.
They have a really unique adjustment that allows the user to manipulate the fit behind the ears. Although this takes a few seconds longer than adjusting a traditional pair of headphones, the big difference is that once these are in place, they won't budge!
Also, I can't say enough about the quality of the sound in these headphones! Since I am a vocalist, I can be a bit snobby when it comes to sound and these really exceeded my expectations. Finally it is a joy to listen to my music with headphones!
The only caution I have for people considering this purchase is to know who you are buying from. A friend of mine claimed to have purchased this same pair on Ebay and realized later they were fakes and not near the quality of mine. If you aren't paying around $100 for these, then there is a very big chance that they are not really Bang & Olufsen. Although B&O is really proud of their headphones, the quality of the product proves once again that you get what you pay for!!

If you have decided headphones are too large, in-ear phones too intrusive, more than 200$ too much, and hearing the crickets chirping in a open field concert not essential, then this is a good place to start. Or maybe you just want to know more about this earphone with such a weird-fangled name.
In either case, read on.
The world Bang & Olufsen is quite an elite one. These people take their audio seriously. Their speakers sell for the price of brand new cars. The A8 earphones, by comparison to their other products, is within much closer reach. Not widely distributed, its price is quite varied, but tends to range from 100-160$ (watch out for lower-priced imitations).
The A8 earphones are a sight to behold, being of fine craftsmanship and quality components. It was one of the first earbuds to address proper fitting and placement retention with its multi adjustment points (I got mine October 2004). It can be shifted vertically for ear height, horizontally for depth, and held in place with a flip-down loop adjustable to your preference. Its body frame is constructed of rigid brushed aluminum, with hard glossy rubber lining the ear loops. The ear-loop and the swing arm holding the phones move with a smooth gliding motion that have held up well over the years. The cords leading from the phones are reinforced with a rubber housing to protect from the potential pull and snag. Mine have survived quite a few. Though in no way am I suggesting you can yank on them, they will last if subjected to frequent light stressing. Of particular note in the design, the cord length is shorter than normal at about 3ft. which is perfect for the portable player close at hand. It comes with a low-profile 6ft. extension cord if longer lengths are desired. I also like the straight-line plug (as opposed to the right-angle ones), nice for audio-players housed in a pouch or bag. Due to its unique design, proper protection is provided in a carry case of hard black leather, shaped to conform to the dual semi-circle ear loops. But enough of its design. What of the sound?
I have to be up front about the weak points, because this is the deciding factor for most. The bass response on these phones is underwhelming. Which is not the same as saying weak/tinny bass, the lack of, or distorted bass. In the quest for high quality, the emphasis was on other aspects of sound quality. Something had to be compromised, that being bass response. When bass is exhibited though, it is clear, distinct, and free of distortion. But you will never feel punch or power to the bass. Which was never the intention of the A8's. One other gripe, a minor one, is that for people who wear corrective lenses, the ear loops on the A8's can get in the way of the lens frame, causing some degree of discomfort to the ears.
If you are still with me, then the bass issue didn't scare you off. Its high points are more important to me, which is why I recommend it. The A8 emphasizes sound detail, clarity, and accuracy (lack of distortion). Sound output is tight and controlled in the high ranges, great for orchestral music, for soprano singers. Instruments, vocals, acoustic resonances, twangs, rings, chimes, are clear and true. Distinction can be made of the parts of the whole, yet there is proper balance so that the different sounds can still meld as one. I hear layers of audio I never knew existed because on low quality phones they had been drowned out or distorted by inaccurate sound reproduction. You get to hear more of what was recorded in the original that can get lost in low quality outputs. [This audio clarity is a bit of a double edge. The flaws of low quality audio sources (like low-bit rates) tend to be more pronounced with high quality headsets.] On a lesser note of benefit, the ear loops hold the ear piece securely from slipping out if you need to engage in some kind of major head movement.
If you spend more money, you can certainly get better. If you go with in-ear buds, you can retain clarity and gain some bass.
But if bass isn't the forte, you believe ear buds gotta stay out of the canals, and clarity is important, the Bang & Olufsen A8's fit the bill.

Excellent - but do try before you buy.......2007-07-28
I travel a lot and listen to a lot of music. Having a very eclectic musical taste means I need earphones that can cope with the nuances of classical and jazz through to heavy rock. Over the last few years I have tried many headphones. Bose make outstanding noise cancelling ones which are excellent for long flights but too bulky for everyday use. My Sony noise cancelling in ear ones just didn't last becoming crackly and forever falling out.....and as for the nice shiny ones supplied with the iPod....let's not go there!
For me there are two major condsiderations when wearing headphones for every day use: -
1. Sound quality
2. Wearability
Sound quality from the B&O earphones is remarkable and almost up their with my Bose ones. But the real winner with these is that you can wear them for hours without having to constantly adjust them which was my main gripe with all other earbud style headphones I've used.
The problem with any review though is that it is very subjective and one person may find the process of putting the headphones on time consuming due to their requirements, other's may find the sound does not suit their musical tastes.........so go and try them, also try the Sennheiser, Sony, Shure.....make sure you listen to the same range of music each time. If they don't have earphones you can try.....walk away!

I loved these when I saw/heard them do I bought them about 18 months ago. I always kept them in the case and collectively they've been used about 20 times but now they are crackling like they've been blown and I haven't turned the volume up that loud. So, for the money I'm a bit dissapointed with that. Otherwise they are everything I was looking for.

Danish luxury electronics company B&O delivers a well-designed, classically inspired, high-performance headphone with the Form-2. "Bang og Olufsen" have stores all over Denmark, even in the smallest of towns. Yet in the US, they are few and far between. After the bygone age of the record player, few Americans know of or remember the company internationally known for function and design in electronics. Most of their products come with a hefty price tag, but the $99 MSRP for these on-ear headphones is a Benjamin well spent.
Design - the frame is made of a matte finished black plastic material. The adjustment mechanism is metal and slides cleverly into the plastic frame. The speakers themselves are positioned in a ball-and-socket joint and are removable for maintenance or accident-- I know from experience. Someone once tripped over my cord and instead of ripping the wire from the insert socket, the speaker itself detached from the frame of the headphones and landed safely in my lap. The speakers are, of course, round. But the foam pad is square. With some headphones, the foam decomposes after time but mine have withstood normal use for over two years and still look as new. The black cable also has a matte finish, something you don't normally see with electronics.
Comfort - The speakers fit comfortably over the ear without too much pressure. Only after prolonged use, do the top of my ears feel a bit numb. This can be easily prevented by moving the position of the speakers up or down over the ear.
Performance - Bass response is exceptional for the size of headphones, especially considering they aren't sound isolating like the more expensive Bose headphones. The sound is rich and is undistorted with the vast majority of songs. I listen mostly to rock, folk, soundtrack, and international music. I did a special test with the song Moan by Trentemøller because of the song's bass. The results were no distortion and the bass wasn't so overpowering that it hurt my ears. They perform better than my Shure earbuds in this test as well.
Conclusion - These are an attractive pair of headphones without being stylish and obscene. They have a classic form and superb performance. Trust in the B&O name should also boost your confidence in buying this product. They aren't the best for travel or professional monitoring, just leisure listening.

i owned a wep 200 and it worked great but kept falling out of my ear and finally got lost, so i thought i would try the 420 nearly 3 times the price because it had a ear attachment, big mistake, the product works very well with my samsung phone but is worse then the 200 for not staying in your ear or on your head. the ear attachment design is HORRIBLE!!! there is no adjustments for fit, NONE!! the piece that sticks in your ear is too large and wont stay put, the ear hook cant be adjusted and even if you take the chance on bending it to fit better, if you flip it for the other ear it now is bent wrong for the other ear. another irritation is when you try to push the thing back into your ear you invariably click a button that dials someone. my opinion is get the wep 200 at least the ear piece is semi-adjustable, the electronics seem to be the same and its lots cheaper. shame on bang and olusen for putting their name on this poorly designed contraption. i wonder if they even bothered putting this on more then one person when testing it.
