Good for most applications.......2007-12-01
The MDR-RF925RK headphones worked really well with my Ipod and another stereo I tried (better than I expected!) but they had trouble with the TASCAM 2488 digital recorder that I wanted to use them with. The recorder is an 24 track "digital studio" that I use for recording instruments (guitars mostly). I wanted the wireless connection so I could roam freely while playing and recording the guitars. But for some reason the headphones have a lot of noise when used in combination with the recorder. I may try the infrared type.
Wirless head phone.......2007-10-27
Having a hearing loss we had to keep the T V louder than normal. This solved the problem as the family can listen to the T V at normal level, and I can hear with the wireless headphones. And they are glad that I no longer ask, "what did they say?"
The reception quality is good, and walking to different rooms, I did not loose reception.
I hooked the transmitter to the T V using the extra audio jacket on the T V. This way the T V sound stays on. This was not in the hook up information instructions. If you hook the receiver to the phone jack, it disables the T V speakers.
A connecting cord (phone plug, stereo miniplug) comes with it. I bought an extra one. That way I plugged the connecting cord into the headset jack on the radio, and the other one into headset jack on the receiver of the headless phone. This way I can leave the transmitter (which holds the headset also) in one spot. If both the radio and TV are on at the same time, you can just disconnet one, otherwise when listening to only one, you just pick up the headset, and it turns on automatically, and you don't have to do anything.
For the price, it can't be beat.
A piece of crap, don't waste your money.......2007-10-14
To put it simple: don't buy this product. The sound quality is sub par and the reception is horrible. There is no bass what-so-ever. Even the free headphones that come with the iPod are better quality. On top of this, the volume is way too low, even on max. To make matters even worse, the reception is shabby, There are 3 preset channels, all of them equally as bad. All the time you will hear this constant static in the background. This is an issue with most wireless headsets (analog ones) but its really bad with this model. Even with the volume on max, the static sounds louder. Its really that bad.
The sound quality is just lackluster on all accounts. It seems like its running a high-pass filter on the soundwave because it simply destroys music. Especially with electronica, you will lose like half of the sounds (most importantly theres *no* bass). For watching movies it muddies everything with the static so voices are more difficult to understand. Even playing online games, these headphones are a disadvantage. The stereo sound is not that great. Audiophiles steer clear.
Just to re-iterate, this product is really a complete piece of crap, I've never reviewed a product so bad. I thought since it was a Sony, it would be better than the $20 RCA wireless headphones I've got, but they aren't. I still use them sometimes just for the convenience of wireless, but aside from that these headphones are just worthless. I know they look really cool, they are actually comfortable and have that fancy wireless charging battery, but if the sound quality blows, whats the point?
Great choice for wireless headphones.......2007-09-21
I can't believe that I haven't found reviews for this product! I got a system so my wife could listen to the TV while watching in bed and not have the sound disturb others. I got this one because -1- it is RF as opposed to infrared so if she goes into another room she can still hear the sound, -2- has "drop-in" inductive charging of the rechargeable batteries as opposed to teeny-tiny contacts, -3- is from a well-known manufacturer as opposed to some off-brand, -4- it had switch-able frequencies to diminish the chance of interference with other 900MHz devices (I had to look at Sony's website for that), -5- the price is reasonable because of the quality reputation of Sony, and -6- it was available from [...] as opposed to some fly-by night company.
I was very pleased to find that it had arrived with the right cable (mini stereo to RCA L&R plugs) AND it works with devices that have RCA jacks OR mini stereo jacks because the transmitter has both types! We are fortunate that the TV has a headphone jack (unusual for the size of the tube) and it cuts off the TV speaker.
The sound in the headphones is amazing - so much better than sound from the speakers in any of the TVs in the house. I may get some of these instead of a surround-sound system for the family room.

Lost my Faith in the Church of Sony.......2007-12-01
This looks like the most elegant product of its kind at this price tier. Indeed, the design is terrific, and they actually look nice sitting on my entertainment center unused. The problem is that they DON'T WORK.
1. Batteries: the rechargable battery (great idea) was apparently broken before I opened the box - the phones have never held a charge. Powering them with disposable AAA's is an option, but disposable batteries appear to drain 24/7 whether the phones are being used or not. After a month of ownership, and perhaps 15 hours of use, I have fed these phones 4 sets of batteries already.
2. Sound and Signal: As others have noted the sound quality is tinny to begin with. Voices sound ok, but any stereo sound effects are muted. Then there is the static, which is ever-present, unless I turn my head 90 degrees away from the base unit. (Since the base unit is in front of my TV, this makes viewing impossible.) But even if I could tolerate the sound quality, the signal is interrupted every 45-60 seconds by an unpleasant "wonk" sound, like a bicycle horn through a toilet paper tube. All of this is a problem at 15 feet or less. Admittedly, the sound quality does not get any worse as I move away from the base unit. Even on the other side of my house, through 3 walls, I can still "enjoy" these phones, to the limited extent that's possible.
3. Design: While the base unit is attractive, and the earpieces are cozy, the design still leaves a lot to be desired. Most irritatingly, the phones have no "off" switch. Instead, they activate automatically when you pull them over your head, and thereby place tension on the second (inner) head band. I have a really big head, and I have to pull them down almost over my cheeks before the phones will activate. But there is enough tension in the inner band to pull them back up over my ears (where they should be) - at which point they deactivate.
I have always been one of the faithful at the Church of Sony and I stupidly bought these off-the-rack at Best Buy without checking the Amazon reviews. I will never make the same mistake with Sony products again...
Sony headphones $59 headphones for $99.......2007-11-18
Hello,The sound level from my new lap top is kinda weak.I picked up the 970 thinking that they would have ample volume.I pluged in the unit and found they wouldn't charge (Battery was in backwards). After screwing around with the battery I found the 970 charged and the battery lasts and lasts. They would be good for music if they sounded good but alais the 970 must be for dialog.I also found the 970 needs to be "dialed in".I can't help but to think after all is dialed in with 970 that the wife could walk around the house work and still watch the soaps.
Save your money.......2007-09-15
This product is very convenient. It turns on when you put them on (it usually takes a 10-40 seconds). However the sound quality is absolutely terrible. There is a lot of static even when I sit 10 feet from the unit with clear line of sight.
If you like noise.......2007-08-22
I was hoping these would work better than the Sennheiser's have used before. Nice looking, rechargeable, inductive charge, auto-off with the headband, comfortable. But.. the noise level is simply intolerable. There is a level of noise at all times which is very intrusive. With music its not really bad, but with dialog(as in a movie) it is truely horrible. With any quiet passage, the noise increases sharply. Some reviewers(of the 960rk) have suggested that increasing the input signal will improve this. Maybe slightly, but the dynamic range of the headphone circuit is very poor, so clipping and distortion come very quickly. Supposedly there is a noise reduction circuit(compared to the 925), but I can't imagine what it does. The range of 150 ft is a joke-maybe on Mars. Even disregarding the noise issue, they really can't be reliably used more than 4 feet from the based. The engineers involved with this one should be spanked. Doesn't Sony test these things before production? It could also be that the 900 MHz band just isn't a good one for this application. The Sennheisers(RS110) have some interference problems also, but the noise is noticeably less and the sound quality much better.

Pretty good.......2007-12-21
Sound is pretty good. It fills the need that I bought them for. The only compliant I have is that they are not adjustable for the shape of your head and the earcups don't rotate. They them on and if they fit buy them.
I was truley surprised !!!!.......2007-12-09
I got these headphones about a week ago and all I can say is "WOW". The sound quality and virtual surround is amazing.
I have a HDTV and about a $7000 surround system that I love to watch movies with. The only issue I am having is I can't crank it up anymore. My wife and I just had a new baby and with a new baby in the house it is hard to use. I would keep having to adjust the volume up and down. The explosions and music would be to loud and the dialog I could barely hear. It was making me crazy. I just wanted a way to enjoy movies again.
I read a few reviews about these Sony headphones and thought I would try them out. I have to say I have been nothing but impressed. It is not the same as my surround system, but they are still great. I find myself forgetting that I have them on sometimes, yeah... thats how real the surrond is. If you are looking for away to enjoy movies, TV or PS3 without haveing to rumble the house, this is definitely the way to go.
satisfy.......2007-12-03
There are some sound signal interrupted by the surroundings.
In addition, it costs more than I thought compared with the performances
However it is totally satisfied.
because of normal performance and the best design.
Great Headphones!.......2007-11-10
I have been using these with my Xbox 360 and have had no problems with distortion. A little tricky to set up (may be just my set up) Great headphones! They do get a bit warm after about an hour of intense gaming, but they let me frag away while the family sleeps! worth the money.
Lots of static and all sound shuts off when microwave oven is on!.......2007-09-13
Dealer very responsive, but this RF headphones are very very poor. Lots of static and all sound shuts off when microwave ove is on one room away - very very poor. It should be taken out of the market!

Sony MDR-RF5000K Wireless Headphones.......2006-09-16
I Bought these Headphone a little while ago.The Sound is out-standing but that is it's only Truely Good thing.
The Battery System that comes with the Headphones don't last long, at about 1/2 Volume {on the headphones) they only lastabout 4.25-4.75 Hours, with a 3-4 hour rechage time. The Headphone battery cover is weak, and feals and looks like it break quickly if you open and close it often.Energizer Alkaline Battery only last 3 hours at best.Energizer 2500mah Rechargeable Batteries Last 4 hours, witch makes usen them for any long term times imposible.Although Sony Says the Headphones give you a warning that the Batteries are almost dead it has never worked for me.
The Range is very sad. My Bathroom is about 12 Feet away From the Transmitter the Signal tends to Drop in and out from that Short distance.
The Headphone hock-up to the TV is a Poor connectivity. The Headphone Eye Pad Have already Cost me in Replacements sence they are poorly made and have low last time. The Optical Digital Connection Work ok, but the Pass Threw never works no matter how much money you spend in Optical Digital Connecting Cables you buy.For the Cost Sony Charges for these Headphones you'd think the connectivity worked right, and came with a better set of Connector Cables.
The Headphone do fit your Head nicely but only if you keep you head at a 75 105 deg Strait up you look down or up to much the headphones seem to fall off easly. The self Adjusting Head Bad Barly works and The Rubbery Band Grabes your hair and pulls it out, or atleast that what it does to me if i'm not carefull on taken it off.
I Bought Sony Wireless Headphone becouse, the last set of Wireless headphones I got From Sony lasted very Long, and other Wirelss headphone system I got never lasted more than a Year, and unless you want to buy 2 or more Wireless Headphones {so one can Charge while you use the others} or feal very lucky {With the Poorly made/Designed Battery Cover} you can change battery alot.
If you tend to buy these Headphones you will need a sec. pair, and a few ext. Ear Pads.
Highly Recommended.......2006-07-12
These work just as I had hoped. I get a clear, static and interference free sound from my television. The base station transmittion/charger hooks up to either your television or cable box. The headset receives the sound wire free. This allows me to watch tv when my spouse wants some quiet in the living room. Note: in my experience the quality of the audio cable you use affects the sound you hear so do not skimp and buy five-dollar cables.

Good value for cost.......2007-12-25
These wireless headphones are just what i wanted for watching football while my wife reads in the same room. There is some static in the headphones when not recieving audio, but not at all noticible otherwise. Have not tried them for listing to music. Very easy to set up and use.
Can this many people be wrong? .......2007-12-24
These headphones were exactly what I was looking for and work great. They have a volume control on the side, they work throughout my condo without distortion, they somewhat block the outside noises, and so far I have used them for two hour stints and they don't lose their charge. I'm not an audiophile, or should I say I don't see the point at spending thousands on sound equipment, but I do appreciate good sound - these deliver.
Very comfortable.......2007-12-23
It works very well, its comfortable, you can adjust it so as not to have interference, etc.
But, if you use it in bed, as I do, be sure that your partner will listen unless you use it in very low volume.
Perhaps I have to have a bigger bed...
Excellent product.......2007-12-22
Just bought these for a Christmas gift for myself. They sound great,no problem with static. I would highly recommend these headphones I had no problem setting them up.
Top notch headsets.......2007-12-21
Fantastic! Just tried these out and they have impressive sound quality with no interference, static or distortion. Handsome, well designed combination of charging stand and headset. Headsets are comfortable with easy to use controls and the tuner locks right on to the signal without having to fiddle around with it. Only suggestion might be to have a green fully charged light on the charging stand. The charging indicator light always shows red even when the headsets are fully charged.

Good cheap solution for wireless headphones.......2007-12-26
I received this product as a Christmas Gift from a room mate, so I can't really complain at the price. I did look at retail prices, and I think the prices are fair. It's a good pair of headphones for those who don't want a long cord tangling up your space, and limiting your mobility. However, for those who are expecting Surround Sound quality, move on.
The quality is pretty clear and crisp. I read a review that someone had to keep tuning their headset in. I claim nonsense on that, as I live in Los Angeles, and I've never had that problem. You get static radio and other feedback when it's not tuned to your headphones, but otherwise, you get a clear reception of whatever the audio is plugged into.
The device itself was a bit complicated at first, as I received this product with no instructions (again, as it was a gift.) Five minutes later, I figured it out, and got it working, and was really satisfied.
Overall, I recommender this product, and I say that this is a good product if you're looking for cheap yet reasonable quality wireless headphones to free you from cords while at the same time enjoying the privacy of headphones. It's not digital DTS quality audio, but it's a decent pair of headphones.
Much better than sony!.......2007-12-22
first of all i would like to say that i have been very loyal to sony electronics for about 14 years. i have owned tv's, shelf systems, boomboxes etc. i had never tried their wireless headphones. a couple of years ago i bought a pair at best buy for $99.99 and they were horrible. i could not believe how terrible they were and they do have very bad reviews all over the web. about a year went by and i decided to buy another pair from amazon ani had read a few reviews about refurbished. i thought that maybe the ones from best buy were just defective. the refurbished ones were much better but there was still a lot of static and popping. so then i put the base up high on my tower desk and the reception was better but not great. i could now hear people that i don't even know having conversations on my headphones. i did not recognize the voices so i beleive i was listening to people from the other side of town. i had it with those headphones. then i saw that every single sennheiser model of wireless headphones had 4 star reviews which is weird for wireless headphones. i could not believe how good the reviews were (of course there will be some negative reviews but there is much more 5 stars then 1,2 and even 3 star reviews) i have owned these headphones now for a whole week now and there is some little popping here and there but it is no big deal. i have taken them outside and washed my car. heard very little static and i even got inside my car to move it out of the sun to dry it and heard absolutely no static. i parked my car under our car port which has a metal roof and heard no static either. i looked to me that the reception was getting better and better. i could not believe it. i am very happy with these headphone. they are the the best sounding ones cuz they lack bass but the mids and highs are very good. (the sony headpones have much more bass than the sennheisser but they also have much more static and popping which is very annoying and there 2.4 ghz are very expensive and they interfere with telephones and wireless routers even microwaves) 900 mhz maybe old technology but with 900 mhz telephones starting to go extinct (of course i did hear a conversation going on) 900 mhz headpones maybe the best way to go. i do want to add that when i heard a converstion going on, my sony 900 mhz were connected to a 2.4 ghz sender/reciever and the little green light on the transmitter on the base was not even on. so now i think that maybe the 2.4 ghz sender/reciever was picking up that conversation and not the 900 mhz. these sennheisser's have not picked up anything yet and i do see the little green light on from time to time when i don't even have my stereo on. i love these headphones and i plan on buying another pair but the 140 model.
100 times better than the competition.......2007-12-19
These headphones sound very very good, there is NO static or chirps, snapps, or other noise that I have incountered with RCA and Sony , I live in an apartment complex and it seems that most of my nieghbors have wireless networks and microwave, but you would belive that you were listening to a wired headset with these headphones, I would definately buy these again, too bad I didnt spend the $100 to start with!
Died in 10 minutes.......2007-12-16
I bought a new Sennheiser RS-110 for my wife. The power supply for the transmitter or the transmitter itself died within 10 minutes of set up. The good thing is I bought locally "just in case."
Good Choice!.......2007-11-25
*Good pricre
*Sounds perfect in a range of 20mts.
*Sennheiser products are renowned for their fantastic sound and build quality
*Audio signal received through walls and ceilings
*lightweight
*The battery life is pretty good
*Static free.

Noisy and inconvenient. Avoid these turkeys !.......2007-09-04
These headphones seemed like a good idea at the time. I got them for late night TV listening, and occasionally they sound wonderful, but their background hiss is intrusive, varying from almost OK to maddening, depending on head position (even if you are 5 feet away from the base), and is usually worst when you in the optimal viewing position. Nothing seems to improve it - moving the base, changing channels, etc... Also it usually takes a couple of minutes of fiddling around to set the stupid things on the base correctly so that the battery will charge. Altogether a waste of time and money.
not very happy.......2007-08-23
I liked everything about this unit except the way it worked. There was a back round hiss that I couldn't get rid of so I returned the product.
Comfortable, but useless........2007-07-20
These headphones are very comfortable. Unfortunately I have a very difficult time with the headphones as they typically drop the audio signal at least 3 or 4 times a day, cutting to static - which can be painful. To get the signal back I must unplug the base station and plug it back in.
Most often I must turn my head to a specific angle to get the signal clearly, as otherwise there is a constant static in the background of the music.
The sound with a clear signal is decent, and gives OK sound in the lower range, but the highs are not as crisp as I would prefer.
Bad, Bad, Bad, Worse...........2007-06-09
Never thought I would make a mistake buying Sony... Well, I did this time... What a horrible product, it gives me headaches with all the noise, all the interference. Don't waste your money, these headphones are not even worth the unexpensive price you'll pay for them...
Worst experience ever had.......2007-06-06
I never thought i will write such a bad review on a Sony product. This product really sucks. You can hear only static and sometimes it works fine for a maximum of 5 seconds and God only knows when it will work fine. I tried all suggestions given by other reviewers here to get rid of the static and failed miserably. Thank god i got with a refund policy and has sent it back the second day.
Don't buy this product if you really want to use it. I am giving 1 star because there is no option for 0 stars.

These are expensive, but WORTH it.............2007-08-19
I was actually able to buy a refurbished set of these headphones with the baseset for an excellent price. The headphones I owned before these were a very BAD quality set of RCA wireless phones. The range was no more than about 10 feet before static would completely override the sound that you were listening to. When I got these and heard the quality, my jaw hit the floor. You have to understand that with ANY wireless audio device, there's always the chance for interference. The level of interference that I experience while using THESE earphones is probably about .1%. I mean these things sound CLEAR. It has automatic frequency adjusting so when you turn them on, they automatically adjust to the clearest setting possible, then on the right side, there's also a manual setting when you want to tweak it exactly to your level of clarity. The sound compression setting switch seems to give the sound extra bass and a general lift in overall quality. It sounds a bit deeper and vibrant for those that like thickness in their movie listening experience.
It charges by simply hanging it on the base set. You have to be SURE to put rechargeable batteries in the headset if you plan on recharging it, otherwise if you put alkaline batteries in the headset and place it on the recharger, you're going to get a big surprise when those batteries overheat from being charged. With rechargeable batteries in it, you just hang it on the stand whenever you're not using them, and they stay charged up all the time.
The range is STELLAR. I've walked around every inch of my apt with the headphones on, and never experience ANY static. One time I went outside and downstairs to my UNDERGROUND carport, and I was STILL getting sound! Granted it was static with the sound, but I was shocked that I could still hear the program playing, as when I go down to my car, my cellphone usually has NO BARS by the time I get down there, so to see that I was still getting some sound out of the headset even while being in an underground parking lot made me really respect the engineering involved in making these headphones. I recommend them HIGHLY.
