Over priced; underperforming.......2007-12-24
I recently purchased the earbuds. I have not had proper time to let them burn in, but I believe that the first impressions are not likely to improve. The headphones are bass heavy with muddy sound. They do not separate sound in the same way that a better earbud will. The bass was so heavy when I first listened to them that I had to select another piece with less bass to give the buds a fair chance.
The fit was not comfortable at first. I had to change the plastic fitting to the smallest one so that they would not be so uncomfortable. They still are not very comfortable, but they might improve with breaking in.
The positives are that they are easily powered by an Ipod with more than sufficient volume. Second, if a listener does not want a bud that goes into the ear canal, these buds will do without falling out if you are using them while exercising. This is not a small consideration. I had the Philips earbuds that fit in the outside of the ear. They sounded okay, but not great. However, they would fall out of my ears.
For approximately $100.00, you can buy the Audio Technica which sound much better. You can buy the Sennheisers and have enough for a steak dinner. You can buy the new upper end Denon earbud and have a much more evenly performing earbud. In all of these three choices, you will have to have the bud in the ear canal. I am okay with this. I find it more comfortable than these. Any of the other three suggestions is far cheaper than an upper level Shure or Ultimate Ear.
Save your money and get another brand of earbud for comfort and performance.

I am always amazed how much people hate Bose. I also know a lot of people who love Bose too, including myself. But what I like mostly are their other speakers. I find this earbuds to have too much bass. You tend to forget about the other frequencies as the base sound too empowering. The shape is very original which does not mean it will stay comfortably in your ears. It says "in-ear" but it does not really goes in very far inside your ears as compared to other in-ear phones. You need to actually hear to decide for yourself if you want to spend 99$ because I am not very impressed with it.

This is a really poor design, and I am shocked to see how much these cost. I got these as a gift, and lost both earbuds on Day 1. Bose sent out replacements, and one of them has now fallen off too. These really should come with dozens of extra buds because they keep falling off. Spend your money on something else.

The redesigned Bose Triport IE headphones are fantastic. They deliver deep, rich sound, often times with a lot of bass. I think there's a little bit too much bass, but it's not a big issue. They're very comfortable, and you don't need to jam them in the ear canal to get powerful sound. Between the three tip sizes it shouldn't be an issue to get a size that fits everyone. Yes, they're pricey but if you can spare the money they're more than worth it.
Just to clarify, they are NOT noise cancelling. They do block out some of the sound due to their shape / design and quality of sound, but the headphones do not specifically noise cancel.

I just received these headphones as a christmas gift and let me tell you... THEY ARE AMAZING!!!!! They are loud, they sound amazing, they pick up bass and treble sounds at an amazingly high quality, they cancel outside noises (cant wait to fly to europe with them) and they fit in your ears very well. The ear-fitting might deter some and I have a feeling the negative feedback came because people don't know how they are supposed to sit in your ears!!! Let me just note, I have my tregus pierced and it is the first time EVER that earphones haven't hurt my ears... I have been wearing them now for a good two hours now. They are awesome... I dont want to take them off!!

Based on all the reviews I read - I was hoping the V-MODAS would have more bass than the typical earbud. One review actually went so far as to say that some people will not like them since they have a little too much base. - Too Funny! - These buds are seriously lacking bass - just like almost all other earbud brands. They do fit nice, and workmanship and materials are good, but who cares what they look like when they sound like crap. I also bought a pair of shure ear buds which also had excellent reviews - these were actually worse than the V-modas. I then bought the Bose in-ear headphones. The Bose are awesome! I have about 6 different pair of over-the-ear headphones, and these are probably equal to my best over-the-ear headphones. the main issue with these is getting them to stay in your ear - I may have to resort to duct-tape, but I don't care, the Bose sound fantastic.

These earbuds are great.Unlike some other brands,these stay in the ear,they have nice rich sound. After hearing them, I turned around and bought a pair for my son. you won't be disappointed.

When I put this in my ear first time I was scared if I paid 100 (actually 70) for this. but after comparing back to back with other ear plug i realized this is really different. The problem is we are so used to the no bass voice of other ear phone we just cant imagine the clear sound.
overall sound level is lot lower than other ear plugs which could me a issue for some ppl but not for me.
A perfect investment when you have to listen to the music 8 hr/dayy at work.
lets see if it keep up the promises.

Yes the TIPS again for a product made by Bose you would think the tips will not fall off so easy and once they fall off it's inpossible to find then.Second they do not cancel out any noise and I live NYC I take the subway everyday. The sound is the best but not loud. If you like bose buy them but ready to spent money buying the tips more then once
Different to the run-of-the-mill IE headphones.......2007-09-16
Just bought these (black & white cord) and am very happy. Bose can sound quite 'basey' and - to some- supressed but the trick is turning off your equalizer and other sound enhancing software then adjust up to suit. I find that, on the iPod (5th gen 30GB but I suspect the EQ logarithm's the same on all iPods) Acoustic setting as this seems to balance out the base with the treble while emphasasing the vocals. Once you've found your preference you won't turn back - cuts out all the tinny crap and you'll hear stuff you never heard before - deeper, richer quality sound. The difference is similar to a track being played without Dolby (with standard earphones) then with Dolby (with Bose) - but better. Just expect to play around with your EQ first.
An update (22/9/07) - been listening to Pink Floyd (Dark Side) and let me say - it's amazing how much you miss with cheaper audio. These have brought a new fascination to old favorites. If you have equipment with SRS Wow - even better but you can download that for iTunes now - great combo.

My review could be 5 stars, but give it 5 when there is better out there, just not for the money. That depends on your taste.
The comfort level of these earphones about equals the sound quality. The IPOD earphones are not comfortable in my ears after 15 minutes compared to these..I can almost sleep with these in my ears.
The sounds is nice, and the base is plentiful. There is a few songs out there with HIGH treble that don't song that good in these, but who cares.
If you want the best, buy the professional ones for 250 dollars or buy the big earphone types.
If your looking for Perfection, don't buy small. These are close enough to perfect for the average music consumer in my opinion.
The buds will fall off, even the newer types that "click" in, so make sure you take the time to buy some extra ear buds. Try EBAY, some ebay sellers sell them with multiple pairs for under 10 dollars.

After losing the tips repeatedly and untangling the cord each time I use these headphones, I was only pacified by the excellent sound. However they broke after 10 months of regular use last week. Way too much money and hassle. I wouldn't buy them again.

I understand the previous reviewers low ratings based on the initial release of these earbuds. I have recently purchased the current version (black and white cords) and I am delighted with the performance of these little gems. I have no problem with the tips falling off as Bose has modified the way that the tips attach to the buds. They are super-comfortable, and stay in place perfectly (for me using large tips). And the sound quality? Absolutely stellar across entire spectrum. I must note that the bass response is the best I've ever heard with earbuds. I am using these with a Sandisk e200 series MP3 (e280 8GB) player with equalizer setting on normal (flat) settings. BOSE will also send free replacement tips through their website. Price is a little high, but you get what you pay for (sound quality makes up for this). I can't rate durabilty yet as I've only had for a few days. Only complaint...volume a little low...but I don't wish to destroy my hearing anyway. Great job BOSE.
