GREAT SOUND QUALITY , COMFORTABLE BUT QUESTIONABLE CONSTRUCTION QUALITY.......2007-12-10
I purchased these simply because I like large headsets. They sound great, they are extremely comfortable and the Mic works very well. However, my main problem is that the ear cushion has broken off way too soon. I'm on my second pair as I write this review, mind you that I have taped the ear cushion to hold it together. It's sad that I have used up two pair of these with similar result a.k.a. problems. On the first pair the left ear cushion fell off, soon after the left side stopped working (no sound). I decided to buy a second pair, in hopes I would have better luck, since they are so comfortable and sound great! But soon after getting the new pair an almost identical problem developed. This time the right cushion fell off first and soon after the left as well. I have taped them and so far they still sound good. I will soon replace them, since the tape is not very comfortable, but I won't be lured again by their comfort.
It's a shame, that the ear cushion seem so fragile, someone ought to slap silly the designer for making them so nice and yet so fragile. My logic behind my rating is as follows: I have given a star for each of the positive features. One for sound, one for comfort, and last one for the microphone, which is great according to those in the other end of a skype conversation. Accordingly, I have taken two stars off for their short coming, ear cushion breaking off to easily and wires breaking too soon in my opinion. I have had these for a little over 3 month from the time I purchased the first pair and that's way too soon to break down. I have had headset, much cheaper than these in the past that lasted much longer. I have a very old pair of Koss SB-40 (4 years old) which sound very nice but the microphone was ok. Unbelievably, they still work and I use them occasionally on my second computer for music, not for talking anymore had too many complaints from people. Seems the Koss SB-40 Microphone has further deteriorated over time, which is a very long time (as mentioned earlier), lol. Last but not least I'm seriously thinking about acquiring a new pair but, this time I think I will try a new pair of USB headset. Currently, I'm reading reviews on those.
very comfy... two minor flaws.......2007-11-09
I wanted a comfy headset... and this is it.
But, the microphone is apparently weaker than the Logitech 350 USB model (my previous but less comfy headset).
And, if you place the mic pin into the microphone port, you must restart your computer before your machine recognizes its presence.
very fragile.......2007-10-08
i had 2 of these headsets and they are very FRAGILE,if you are careful i would recomend it but if u want durability DONT get this
Good Cheap Headset.......2007-08-25
This headset has served me well for several weeks. It is comfortable, and has good sound quality. One thing to watch out for: Make sure you don't drop it too much, because the ear cups are attached by pretty delicate plastic clips, that can break when you drop them. It happened to me, and so I use some duct tape to keep it together. I don't care about the aesthetics of the thing, its a utiility. I saved a lot of money on a headset by buying this. The problem with dropping probably would have happened if I had bought something more expensive. Clumsy me.
Not bad.......2007-07-07
Difficultly setting mic volume with my computer. Basically had to dial everything to the max.

Good Set of Headphones on the cheap.......2007-12-04
Picked these up for 25$ I think, more than a year ago. Decent sound, fairly comfy, I like the inline volume control. But you get what you pay for, not amazing, not super comfy, not super high quality.
I would buy them again and recommend them if you can get them at a reasonable price
Quality sound.......2007-07-13
This altec lansing has a clear and outstanding sound. The price was unbeleavable, for a headset this good. Wonderful product.
Nice Headset/Microphone.......2007-06-27
This is a nice headset/microphone. The speakers cover my ears well enough to block out any background noise. You hear everything with little to no static or white noise - really impressed with that. I've only used the micrphone a few times and the sound it captures isn't very good. I'm going to be working on my computer settings to see if I can improve the recording volume. I'm certain I can make the sound capture better. Regardless of that, I would buy this again if I had to.
Great sound - when it works - shrink your ears!.......2006-11-10
I recently bought this item (not from this site). The sound is great however, I found the comfort to be very very lacking. I don't have a big head - nor do I have large ears. However, I have to take off my glasses if I use the headset for an extended period of time. There is indeed a constant sqeeze on the ears.
Also (maybe this is just me but it has happened on every computer I've tried them with [5]), they don't work all the time. Sometimes you just don't hear anything - when that happens though, I disconnect them and then plug them back in (that may be an issue for some people). When they do work, they work for the duration of your listening.
The style is rather nice for the price. The mic is OK with a little work but still OK. I hardly use the mic though, I use the headphones while I work to help focus while coding.
Great Headphones!.......2006-08-07
After using them for a few weeks, I just wanted to say that they are a good quality set of headphones. Even though our computer sits next to the tv, when we play games we don't get distracted with the television shows. Great product!

Awesome!.......2007-12-13
I don't know much about audio, but these are some of the better sounding headphones I have heard! I couldn't tell much of a difference between these and my friends $170 BOSE headphones. I do agree that they are kind of tight, I pretty much fixed that though by pulling them apart a little bit. It helped them fit a little more comfortably. Long cord is obnoxious for my use, but someday it might come in handy who knows. Overall well worth my money!
Excellent headphones.......2007-10-17
The headphones are excellent and perform perfectly. The ONLY negative is that the "springiness" or "spring strength" of the band to which the phones are attached is too tight, and as a result presses the head more tightly than is desired. The customer suggestion here would be "Try to see if there is an ADJUSTABLE springiness possible, as opposed to a FIXED spring strength for that band."
Great Cans...!.......2007-06-24
These are great headphones, with good sound balance in the bass, smooth, and with an overall warm character. The nine foot cord is a plus. However I wish I'd known about Sennheiser HD 435 which has a cord which is detachable and easy to replace - great because that's usually the first thing to fail on headphones- and has a volume control feature on the cord. But I'm satisfied well enough with this one.
tight on the ears.......2007-03-16
The sound is great, as expected. But why are the earcups so small and uncomfortable?
Good for the price.......2007-03-13
These headphones are pretty good for the money ($49.99). Not as great as the Bose, but then they are 1/6 the price! The sound is great and they muffle a lot of outside noise so you can really listen to music or audiobooks with no distractions. The only thing that I don't like about them is how tight they are. After a few minutes they hurt my ears because they squeeze so tight. The temporary solution is to stretch them a little bit on a soccerball or something. After a while they go back to being tight though, so I don't know if there is a permanent solution or not. If I had the extra money I'd go with the Bose QC2 headphones, but since I don't these will have to do! Overall I'd recommend these headphones and I'd buy them again.

Grado's ability to combine lightness with extreme rigidity and internal damping has been put to good use on the SR125. The SR125 features an improved diaphragm and voice coil design and UHPLC (Ultra-high purity, long crystal) copper voice coil wire. The diaphragms are put through a special 'de-stressing' process in order to enhance inner detail. An improved headband spring provides even greater comfort allowing the listener to relax and enjoy the fine tonal spread and balance. Bass, midrange and treble are all more open.

Grado Prestige SR 125 - Headphones.......2007-05-14
Product lives up to its technical reviews. Sound quality is excellent. Lightweight and comfortable, neither my wife nor I have had comfort problems with it, even when used for several hours. Recommended.
Helpful hint for Grado headphones.......2007-03-28
I recently purchased the SR 80 headphones (they sound great!), not the 125's, but this may help buyers of this product who might be dismayed to see the 1/4" plug instead of the 1/8" on the end of the cord: The 1/4" end on my SR 80 cord was a threaded piece, and all I had to do was unscrew it to reveal the 1/8" connector for an MP3 player. So there was no need for an adapter. Give it a try with the 125's. That's all-hope this works for you.
Great Sound/Terrible Fit.......2007-03-26
These cans sound fantastic once you break them in (which can take a bit longer than with other phones, about 50-60 hours for me). Compared to a closed cup set such as the Sony MDR-V600, the sound of the Grados is much more aggressive. Excellent phones for Rock and Jazz, but a more laid back set (Sennheiser HD-500 series) would be better suited to classical. These cans have exceptional response, music with extremely fast attack and defeat sounds perfectly clear.
However, there is a caveat, unless you have an unusually shaped head, these will not feel comfortable. Personally, I think putting these phones on feels like strapping a medieval torture device to my head, that said, after a minute or so of the incredible sound, concerns about comfort melt away.
Overall, I highly recommend them, but some people simply can't get over the lack of comfort. If possible, find a pair of Grados and try them on (almost all models SR-60 through SR-325 are identical in fit and feel), if you can't stand them, look elsewhere. If they don't feel that bad, you'll probably get used to them.
note 1: these headphones have a 1/4" plug, not the more common 1/8" plug, you may need to find an adapter.
note 2: these are open phones, people around will hear what you are listening to, may not be the best choice for the office, a dorm room (unless you don't like your roomate), or some sort of covert stealth mission.
Excellent sound; not so excellent comfort.......2007-01-07
These headphones deliver excellent sound quality. The clarity and extended frequency response are hard to beat in this price range. But I am forced to give them only 4 stars due to comfort. I just can't wear these for 4 continuous hours without my ears hurting. For this much money, I expect them to be more comfortable out of the box.
I have tried one of Grado's older models that still has the flat ear pads (as opposed to the new bowl style), and I find them comfortable. I am planning to swap my ear pads for the older style. With this modification, I expect to be happy with wearing them for longer periods.
Extremely good.......2006-12-15
First and foremost as others have mentioned, hook these guys up to a stereo and run it for 12 - 24hrs to break them in before passing judgement on them. Vary the volume while you do this, start out low, then after a few hours go to a mid volume setting, then to a medium loud setting for the last few hours (Not loud enough to blow them mind you).
These headphones after the break in period are the clearest headphones you'll ever put on your head and I'll stand behind that statement-I'm an audiophile and have tried most every high end headphone in existence from Sony's V series to AKG to Beyerdynamic to Sennheiser.
However, I'm only giving them 4 stars for 2 reasons. They're not the most comfortable, at least not at first. The ear pads are stiff and to me smelled of petro chemical residue. I softened mine down the first day I had them by placing them in a sink with very warm water with a soy based fabric softener, I soaked em for 10 minutes all the while squeezing the water between them. The also are a bit light on the bass, if you want some of these that are perfect with just the right bass response, look one more notch up in the line for $50 more, the SR225's.
Product Description
The SR225 has an increased airflow by 50% which is achieved through an improved rear metal screen and closer matched drivers. The result is an enlarged soundstage achieved from closer driver tolerances, while the improved rear screen frees the headphone from colorations.

Best Available for the Money.......2007-11-24
First let's dispel the notion that the style of these cans somehow makes the user look like a clod when wearing them. They ars retro in styling, but they're not oulandish. You'll look a lot more like an idiot wearing the sennheiser wireless series than wearing these.(this is for the folks that REALLY care what they look like when wearing headphones)
As to sound these are the best that can be had for $200.00, the sound reproduction is fantastic even at low volume. These are for audiophiles and people of discernment that really like listening to music.
Check out reviews on the web for these and know that the raves these cans are getting are really deserved.
If Grado decided to mass-market their headphone line, i think that they would become a household name in a relatively short period of time
As to comfort these hold up about as good as the competition, some people may find them slightly better, others slightly worse.
These are the real thing if your looking for great music and home theater sound reproduction in your headphones. I rate them a best buy.
Wow . . . wish I had heard of Grado sooner........2007-11-20
I have purchased quite a few pairs of headphones over the years, primarily to use with my 80GB iPod. My main pair recently has been a set of Shure e4c's, which I thought were pretty darn good. When i first put the SR-225s on, I was impressed with the rich sound, but I can't say I was bowled over. That didn't happen until I put the Shures back on. I immediately noticed how they were more narrow and tinny in comparison to the SR-225s. When I put the Grado's back on, the difference was astonishing. The soundstage opened up, and I could hear things I've never heard before, even with the e4cs. The detail with the Grados is incredible. I've heard these are even better with a headphone amp, and can't even imagine how they could be better. Obviously, I'm not an audiophile but for me, this is as high end as I can imagine. For $200 they are a far superior choice to the Bose Triports (which I bought about a month before these) which sound horrible in comparison. Yes sound does leak in and out but its not nearly as bad as some would lead you to believe. Very highly recommended. If you don't want to spend $200, check out the SR-80s or even the SR-60s.
Strange Choice of Picture.......2007-11-19
These headphones are absolutely excellent, especially when driven by normal portable gear. Like everything, they benefit from better equipment, but one of their greatest virtues is their ability to shine right out of an iPod. These are a great choice for someone who just wants a plug n' play upgrade.
The cause for my strange title is the inaccuracy of the picture above. The winsome brunette seemingly enjoying some afternoon music and try toast is not actually wearing these headphones. Those gorgeous gold headphones are actually the $300 Grado SR 325i. The Sr-225's look almost indistinguishable from the rest of the plastic SR series. Black vinyl headband, black plastic cups, only identifying qualities are the stitching on the headband and the numbers on the little cups. Caveat Emptor, and all that.
Great for slow music (jazz, indian/western classical, hindustani).......2007-11-13
I purchased this product after reading rave reviews about it, especially for listening to jazz. I have not been the least bit disappointed.
It sounds amazing. The only constraint on these "cans" is the sound quality which completely depends upon the quality of the source of music.
If your only source of listening to music is MP3 players or AM/FM, I would not recommend them. But if you listen to music with high bit rates 320 KBps+, flac files , CDs or DVDs with quality sound output, I would totally recommend these. I use a Cowon iAudio X5, and it sounds amazing with these, especially since most of my collection is in the flac format.
The reason I did not give these headphones a 5 star is because inspite of bieng very versatile (musically) and in terms of the instruments you could pair it up with (mp3 players, musical instruments, high end systems) it comes with
1) A very short cable which restricts movement, especially when your playing instruments. You will have to buy an extender, which costs money.
2) A 1/4" connector. If you wish to connect it to an mp3 player you would have to get a converter from 1/4" to 1/8", which makes it inconvenient to attach it to tiny players. I believe headphones should come with 1/8" connectors so you can attach to bigger instruments using a converter and at the same time comfortably attach them to tiny mp3 players.
One other potential problem with these is that they are open headphones, meaning if you are listening to music even at reasonable volumes, people around you will get disturbed. Quite a bit of the sound from the speakers leak out. So using them at work or in public places might be out of question.
But the bottom line is that these are the best sounding headphones I have ever used. They are very comfortable (I have small ears) and they fit very snugly. I have used them for several hours on a stretch without fatigue. You can use them without having to resort to purchasing costly headphone amplifiers because they only have 32 ohms for impedance which is why they work well with decent mp3 players. But if you have a weak mp3 player, get a cheap amplifier. I purchased a Boostaroo, but haven't had to use them.
Overall: Very Highly Recommended.
Worth the hefty price.......2007-10-21
I took a leap of faith and bought these after reading several reviews. The most expensive headphones I had purchased before were a $20 pair of Sony's. When they first arrived, I couldn't listen to them however because I didn't realize the jack was 1/4, and that I needed to convert it to 1/8 for normal use. Once my converter arrived though, wow... I had no idea what I was in store for. I was suddenly hearing aspects of music for the first time that I had been listening to for years. New sounds appeared everywhere! The bass is so round and full and is mixed perfectly as to not over or underwhelm. Highly recommended.

Work well.......2007-10-18
These ear phones work well, but they aren't as good at cutting noise as the "over the ear" type. Because of their in-ear design, a lot of ambient noise is eliminated. I've used over-the-ear headphones before, and those block out more noise. However, those type are uncomfortable to wear after several hours. These JVC earphones are not at all uncomfortable for extended wear.
Worst earphones ever.......2007-10-10
Received and returned JVC "Noise Canceling Earphones". I haven't used any kind of earphones that tinney since the early days of the first transistor single-ear phones. The JVC is far worse. In fact, I think now that they must have been defective. I've gone back to the $3 earphones that came with my 1980's walkman.
Very nice, small, good ear seal.......2007-10-09
This unit does a good job of canceling continuous noise such as in an airplane but does not seem to respond to random or sudden noise. The excellent seal to the ear canal blocks most sound even when the unit is off. My unit arrived dead but was replaced in about 10 days with no hassle.
Anyone get one that works?.......2007-09-19
The power LED wouldn't light, but it seemed to be functioning because of the light hissing ... but bursts of static were discouraging. Returned.
Cool looking, though ... still considering trying to get a pair that works.
Fair Review.......2007-09-03
I recently purchased these in ear heaphones and they were the first noise cancelling headphones i have ever had. If you have never spent more 10-15 bucks on headphones and don't want to spend a lot these are AWESOME. 10X better than what you've used before. BUT they are far from the best ever made and if you can afford and/or are willing to spend more do it. You won't be disapointed with these though.
