GREAT for my XBOX 360.......2007-12-24
If you read reviews of this TV on other websites, one common complaint is that it takes 10 seconds for the TV to start up. It is true, but it's not that big a deal, I promise. Let me tell you what's great about this product when watching TV. Have you ever been on your own TV or someone elses TV flipping through channels, and it takes FOREVER for it to change from one channel to the next, and then there is a delay for the sound to come in? Not a problem with this TV, and it's a good thing too because that annoys the heck out of me. When you change channels while watching TV with this thing, VERY fast channel changes.
I did not buy this TV to watch TV though, I bought it primarily for my XBOX 360 in my bedroom, and it is PERFECT. The contrast ratio on this TV is fantastic, and I even lowered the default brightness setting. The graphics are stunning!
Sweet........2007-10-23
Got this tv over on Bestbuy. It's my first HDTV and so far I haven't been disappointed. I was going to get a Samsung 26" but this Philips was the same price over at Bestbuy and it had practically the same specifications. Samsung had 4000:1 while the Philips has 3200:1. The set up for the TV is very easy and everything looks great. I have HD cable and the channels look awesome. I also bought the tv so I could use it with my PS3 and watch Blu Ray movies. The image and colors look great for Blu Ray and games. The TV supports up to 1080i but most games, hd cable dont output 1080p. Plus, 1080p in a 32" isn't really necessary. The difference is only notably visible between 1080i and 1080p when you get up to the bigger Lcds HDTVs, like 50" plus.
I think the price is like $200 less than the Sony, Samsung, and Sharp tvs. It cost more than other models like the Vizio, Olevia but this TV brings 2 HDMI inputs which is necessary if you plan on having HD cable and a PS3 or Xbox 360 connected to it. The image will look a lot better if you use the HDMI inputs instead of the component cables.
My first LCD.......2007-09-03
So there I was. I had finally saved up to go get a LCD TV - but which one should I buy. I knew I was going for 32" to 37" because any bigger would be too big for my livingroom. I also knew that Samsung makes the best LCD TV but at a premium. On the shelf infront of me stood a 32" Phillips.
Phillips used to be the market leader in TV's so I decided to go for it.
I HAVE NOT BEEN DISAPPOINTED! The picture is nice and crisp (Supports up to 1080), sure there is some issues with shades of black - but that is the case for all LCD's. If you want bang for your buck - this is the way to go! Put it to you this way - the boys have already seen it and SUPERBOWL is at my place!!!!
Pixel Plus - you can't go wrong with this.......2007-07-25
It cost me around CAN$950 at BestBuy. After one month I am still very happy with my decision. Before the purchase, I spent long time in the store comparing this with Sharp, Sony, Toshiba, and Westinghouse 32"s. The conclusion is that Philips delivers the most natural picture (thank for the LG panel). Sony is quite good in every aspect but pricy. Toshiba is generally okay except the picture looked really 2-D (fake), IMHO. 1080p from Sharp is nice, but I'm afraid it's an overkill for the 32" level (perhaps even for a 37"). Westinghouse offers a good price/performance ratio, but I would feel like buying extra protection after knowing the warranty service issues from the company.
When spending money on a TV, we look at two things - performance and warranty. As for performance, an LCD TV mainly depends on the panel and the image processor. Those "resolution", "response time", "contrast ratio", "viewing angle" etc are decided by the panel itself. There are other inborn feature by a panel but let's not get too technical. Nowadays technology on making 32" panels has become mature, so in most cases what makes one outstanding is the image processor. This is something you need to spend time in a store to feel. Both TVs from Philips & LG use the same LG made panel yet a difference can easily be seen, because Philips uses Pixel Plus.
An HDTV has high resolution capability, but currently only few signal source are in 1080. Digital signal from cable box, DVD player via component, or Wii etc normally has lower resolution than the HDTV. When display these on a 1366 x 768 HDTV, more noise arises. This is when Pixel Plus enters. From the demo you can see the Pixel Plus technology does cancel noise and enhance colour contrast yet successfully maintain the nature of the image. Every company has their unique way of doing this. I personally believe Pixel Plus is among the tops.
Great TV for the money.......2007-05-16
I picked the TV on sale at Best Buy, for the size and contrast ratio (3200-1)plus a DTV tuner its very good buy and I paid about $90 less than the price above at the time if this review. I use it mainly to play Xbox 360 games on but it also shows DVDs and other HD media very well. My only gripe is that the remote is very basic but does the job however I also own a Philips DVD player and the remotes conflict a little. A nice feature is the USB connection you can plug ina memory stick and view media off it or use it to update the TVs software.

not very good headphones.......2006-11-10
I really expected more from these headphones. The only advantage that they have is that they are foldable but be careful, they are fragile so don't bend them too much.
The quality of the sound is fair, the same that you would get with ones half the price. For the price I paid for them I thought that at least they will have a better sound quality.
The part that goes into your ear is too big and too hard so you wouldn't find them extremely comfortable.
I recommend you to spend a little bit more and buy one of those cools sylicon headphones that go directly into your ear and have a much better sound quality.
Decent.......2006-11-05
These are good for sound, but they have to be in your ear at just the right angle it seems to get optimum quality, and they stick directly in the ear instead of at an angle, so they are slightly uncomfortable.

The 3D motion adaptive de-interlacing feature cleans up noise that can occur in digital video streams, so the image is crisper, without jagged edges. HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It supports all ATSC formats--standard (SDTV), enhanced (EDTV), and high (HDTV).
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

A Good Starter HDTV.......2007-12-24
I got this product last August and it is still working to my satisfaction. I admit there are some kinks that are minor flaws to me, such as the picture turning off then on every so often, and the component cables are under the back portion rather than behind the screen. However, I got this for around $700 out of box from Circuit City and as a college student, this was a good buy considering I don't have a huge income. It's better than the regular television I had and watching HD programs and playing my PS3 (with HDMI cable) makes the pictures look amazing. Even my DVD's look better b/c of this widescreen television. I customized my picture and sound quality to my liking so I have no complaints there. The sound problem that others have did not concern to me. Like I said, I'm still in college so this is a good alternative for me until I can afford to upgrade to an even better product that I can play in my own home and get some BOSE speakers. My advice though is if you can afford to spend money on a new HDTV, do your research and pick a product that has better quality than this television. Good luck in your searching!
Trouble..........2007-11-09
Seemed like a good deal until I noticed that the HDMI input didn't work. It's been in the shop now for a week. I'm hoping it just get replaced or I get store credit at Circuit City. Buyer beware, you get what you pay for.
poor reliability.......2007-08-27
This is my second one. The first one lasted 3 weeks and started turning itself off. I took it back to the dealer and like an idiot decided to try another one. It worked for 13 months and started to do the same thing the first one did. Magnavox said there were no recalls and I was out of luck since it was a month out of warranty. I don't know yet what it will cost to fix but after paying $1000.00 for it and it lasting only 13 months, you can be sure that it will be the last Philips/Magnavox product I purchase.
DO NOT BUY THIS TV!! IT blew up in flames!.......2007-05-17
I bought this tv about 1 year ago and thought it was a good deal for the money, the picture its great with satellite tv, although it did have some sound issues.
The other day My 2 year was watching a video and all of a sudden we heard a huge pop saw flames in the back, and then it started smoking and burning. I called customer svc to complain, a supervisor called back the next to apologize and they said they would send a brand new tv, but i am still waiting.
i hate magnavox.......2007-04-03
i get the tv, it breaks and i feel like killing myself. thats about it. buy a samsung or something that has more than a 3 month warrenty. also, tons of repair places next to where i live dropped the mag. account because it was causing them too much money repairing all their crappy products for the warrenty. i hate magnavox.

Also on my second defective one!.......2006-11-25
In 6 months, this is my second defective one of this seemingly great Magnavox 32" HD LCD tv. Fortunatly the first one konked out close to the first 30 days after I bought it from Best Buy- I assumed it was an insolated lemon...well, not it's 5 months later and my second one started to have the same symptoms- the sound started to cut out- and now the tv doesn't work at all. Magnavox has said they are unaware of a problem...I found that pretty hard to believe after I googled this product just 6 months too late- stay away from this one!
on my second defective one.......2006-09-04
First one had a hum, it took Magnavox two months to admit it was faulty and that they couldn't get the part. They replaced it with a new unit with the exact same problem! We'll see if Magnavox will give me a refund. Stay away from this one!
Terrible warranty!.......2006-07-31
We bought this TV from circuit city 11 months ago and were initially very pleased with the price and the picture quality. Last week the sound on the TV broke. We contacted Magnavox and were informed that the year warranty on the TV only covered parts and not labor. We were referred to an authorized Magnavox service center who then charged us $150.00 dollars just to diagnose the problem. We were then asked to pay another $200.00 dollars to have the repair done.
Although this TV appeared to be good value for money when we bought it, all the recent expenses to get it working again have made it much more expensive. We looked into buying an extended warranty to avoid this happening again, but to buy another year warranty costs $200.00 which is outrageous considering we bought the television for $1300.00.
Quite honestly a product that has such a poor initial warranty ie no labor, just parts and only offers an extended warranty at an extortionate price suggests that Magnavox knows that its product is of poor quality and is liable to break.
We will never buy a Magnvox product again and will always check the coverage of the warranty of any expensive electronic device that we buy in the future.
It's a looker........2006-06-07
This is a beautiful-looking TV... I love the silver and the style.
The picture is "very good" but it is hard not to remember how good the Sony's looked in the store. If you are picky but not obsessive about picture, this LCD can be perfect for you.
The price is amazing. Circuit City had it on sale for under $1000 and the Sony's at this size were much more expensive.
The menus are extremely easy to navigate, and there are many input options on the back (and some on the side for temporary plug-ins that are easy to reach).
The screen does not swivel, but it is light enough and easy enough to grab hold of in order to rotate it if need be. I look at the "box" TVs now and cringe...
I think you'd love it if you went for it!

Best HDTV on Market.......2007-01-10
Philips has long made superior products and their flat screen HD televisions continue that tradition quite remarkably. I recently purchased their 37" model and am elated over its crisp lifelike picture quality, it's convenience in adding other features, and strong built-in sound. I was hoping to buy one of the ambilight models but maybe they'll upgrade me after seeing my strong recommendation!

I am happy with purchase.......2006-12-29
Bought this to upgrade our bedroom set finally. Did not want to go to big, but for our bedroom this is a great size. Currently running an analog directv signal into this set-which blows, but did plug in the ps3 and played some dvd movies on it. Picture really is perfect, I could see no room for improvement on it with correct media (hd, ps3, etc...). On screen menus are nice and easy to nav, speakers and sound is quite nice for built ins....very happy.

Excellent buy!.......2007-06-09
I purchased this television after extensive research from the Sams Club website for 750.00 plus shipping...no tax. Is that a steal or what!
This was my first HDTV purchase...and I promised myself that I wasn't going to get stuck with something for years that I wouldn't be happy with. I did tons of research and found that there were many low quality LCD HDTVs out there that cost more than what I spent on this (walk through the Walmart HDTV selection and you will see what I'm referring too)
What sold me on this television? Aside from the brightness, constrast ratios, and refresh times...which are all excellent...the SOUND ON THIS TV IS AWESOME! This HDTV comes with 2x15w channel speakers that just sound superb...especially with the HDMI connection.
My only gripe is probably that this only comes with one HDMI connection. HDMI is the only way to go these days if you want a pure digital experience. When I upgrade to an HD DVD player...I will have to run my two HDMI signals (one from cable/one from dvd) to a receiver, and then run a single HDMI cable to the TV.
Aside from this single issue, which really isn't too major, I couldn't be happier with this purchase.
I've only seen this television listed online, with Sam's having by far the best price (Amazon thinks this TV is worth almost 1100.00)...and no where else...not at Circuit City, Walmart, Best Buy, Target, or at any of the Sams clubs on site. I expect the reason for this is that this TV at this price would undercut everything else they are selling.
If you can find it, jump on this baby!
Phillips--The manufacturer to avoid.......2007-03-29
This TV worked well for about 3 months before the sound would suddenly "mute"
Changing the channel would usually result in sound but in about 15-20 min the same "muting would result. Talking to Phillips is like talking the used car salesman---promise anything but deliver nothing. For more good Phillips PR from customers. [...]
Great LCD TV with exceptional picutre quality.......2007-01-26
I owned this TV for two weeks. All I have to say about this LCD TV is wonderful. I did a research on which brand to go with. Originally it's either Panasonic, or Sharp the top dog. But I found this one with only two or three user reviews, there is no professional review out there, and dig into more what it offer.
I need at least 3 sets of AV input and it has. One with S and one with HDMI. It also has dynamic contrast control, pixel plus, ...etc.
The picture quality is so brigh and good. Even we are watching regular channel, like SiFi and Food, it looks very like HDTV images. My wife like it because the food is so 3D and real.
I am glad that I buy the right one with very good price. I strongly recommend that you look into this TV.
Buy this TV if your looking for a Great LCD HDTV.......2007-01-11
I have owned this TV for about a week. I spent hours researching LCD TV's and then watched them side by side at Best Buy, Costco, and Sam's Club My research showed that LCD's in whole are not able to reproduce blacks like plasma can, but they are now as bright if not brighter than plasma. This TV's picture can easily be seen in a brightly lit room, no need to close blinds or dim lights.
This TV has great contrast and reproduces blacks as well as any LCD TV I have looked at. Many of the LCD's I viewed in the store seemed to have washed out color especially in the blacks.
This TV has a great picture in Standard broadcast and has an exceptional picture in high definition. Many HD TV's do not do well in up resing a Standard broadcast to fit the high resolution screen. When comparing LCD HDTV in the stores be sure to look at both HD programs and standard definition broadcast. This TV does a great job with playing a Standard broadcast.
This TV produces one of the best pictures I've seen in an LCD and is almost equal to my 42" Toshiba HD plasma which produces 3D like pictures in HD.
When I was setting up this TV in it's "Installation" program when I ran the auto station search program function a warning came up that it may take 30 minutes to run, to may surprise mine ran 5 minutes or more before it started reporting found stations - at it's conclusion after about 20 minutes it reported it found 261 digital stations and 80 analog stations. After completing the programming and scanning through my cable service channels I was pleasantly surprised to find that about 10 or more of my stations could be viewed in High Definition without the use of a Cable HD box from my cable provider.
This set has a USB port that can be used for showing JPG images and album slide shows; it also can be used to update the TV's software. I went to the Philips USA website and downloaded to a USB flash drive new updated software for my TV that included 4 software updates to my TV even though I just bought the set last week.
Pro's to this TV - As good if not the best picture for a LCD TV for both HD and Standard TV. Low power consumption 140 watts, lighter weight than plasma (one person can move and install this TV), does not suffer from burn in as easily as plasma, has an HDTV ATSC tuner that allows me to watch HDTV without the cable company's HD tuner (ComCast is my cable provider and a friend of mine that has this same TV with Insight cable reports also getting HDTV without the cable company tuner), ability to download and update operating software through the USB port and a home computer.
Con's - Only one HDMI port, remote is not universally programmable and only operates Philips products (Don't be mislead because it has selections for DVD/R, CBL, TV, VCR AUX)and the remote is somewhat confusing to use in spite of some color coding to improve ease of use. This TV maybe $100 to $200 more then a price leader TV like Vizio, but the picture quality is well worth the added cost.
Philips claims that - "The Philips dynamic contrast enhancer uses video processing and unique dimming backlight technology. This delivers deep rich black levels with increased detail. The dimming backlight increases the contrast up to 5 times, and at the same time improves the viewing angle." Perhaps this is why the picture seems to me to be so much better than many of the other LCD's.
At the time I wrote this review this TV could be bought for several hundred dollars less from Sam's Club then Amazon, but I would expect Amazon will adjust their pricing as LCD prices continue to fall.
Brilliant HDTV.......2006-12-26
I bought this TV a few weeks ago and so far so good. The resolution is incredibly clear, specially with HD channels. I have an XBOX 360 and I was amazed the first time I plugged it in to this TV, not only because of the crystal-clear image, but also because of the loud and clear sound. So if you're looking for an affordable TV but also want to get the most out of it, I recommend you buy this one. It's Not cheap or expensive like a Sony or Samsung and you're probably going to get about the same image quality

Customer Reviews:
My first HDTV.......2006-12-11
I haven't written a review before, but in case there were others like me who were thinking about buying their first HDTV, don't be fooled by the low price. This is a great TV! The colors are magnificent, bright and bold, but best of all, true, and true throughout the screen. The contrast amazes me. The blacks are really black while somehow delivering really bold, bright colors. In automatic mode, the TV always subtly changes the picture size for watching standard broadcast or HD programs. You never have to adjust anything yourself. Pictures also look great using my regular DVD player, but my best movie experience is always watching HBOHD. The sound is great too, but I've connected my home theater sound system, and now TV watching is a breath-taking experience! Watching sports is the best experience. The wide format allows you to see more of the game, and the sharp detail allows you to see things you missed before. Hockey has always been hard to enjoy on regular TV, so if you love hockey, you have to get HD. Finally you can follow the puck, and the cameras don't have to move so much because of the wide screen. You will love watching sports on this TV! I used to do other things while watching TV, but now it commands my attention. This is a great set for watching within 10 feet, so if you have a cozy area for gathering around the set, or say in the bedroom, it's more than enough size. It only weighs about 40 lbs, so it's really light, easy for one person to get a grip on it and move it around. If you're worried about such a low price for an HDTV, don't, not with this set. It's highly rated by the editors at [...], and highly rated by me, too! I'm really loving this TV!
