Sit close to your Computer.......2007-11-03
Headphones work great, comfortable, good sound quality, but wish the phone leads just came out of one side, another drawback, depending on whether you're are right on top of your PC or not, the overall cord length is too short, only 40" long. There are better choices out there. I have similarly priced headphones that have a 98" cord, and it comes out of only one side of the phones. I would recommend shopping around if this cord length may be an issue for you. Extension leads may be purchased, but cost almost as much as the headphones themselves! Luckily I had an old extension lead. Sorry SONY. A die hard SONY fan nevertheless.
Eep.......2007-09-23
They work, but that is about the best I can say for it. They are a poor fit to the ear and worse of all, the cord is very, very short. This is not suitable unless you can have the source very close to you, and useless if your audio jack is in the back of your computer as it won't reach.
Great for the price........2007-09-08
Some inexpensive headphones were needed for a children's computer lab. These fit the bill perfectly. The sound quality is decent and they appear to be fairly sturdy (none broken after six weeks of kid use). For an adult, the over the head piece is a bit snug, but with a child's smaller head, they work fine.
Sony Bargain Headphones.......2007-05-18
I understand the concept of "you get what you pay for," and I also thought that the Sony brand stood for at least a reasonable expectation of quality no matter the price. So I was very disappointed to discover that these $9.99 headphones are inferior to the ones that came with the Magnavox JogProof CD player that I purchased from Kragen Auto Parts for $15.99.
Quite satisfactory - full bass - good clarity.......2007-04-20
Back in the 1980's I purchased an Awia portable stereo cassette player (walkman) based on it's superior sound (at least compared to others that were offered at the time). I was still using the headset that came with that stereo until a couple days ago when the left side quit. I was very satisfied with the sound as I thought it was well balanced and natural. For a replacement I wanted something that sounded similar to what I was used to hearing. Having been out of the market for 20 years, I had no idea what the new headsets were like. I tried an in the canal type headset and was disappointed in the lack of bass response (comapred to what I was used to). So I decided to try a headphone that was more like the Awia with the open speakers. Sony kept appearing as a highly regarded brand. I wasn't looking for audiophile quality - I probably can't hear that well any more anyway - I just wanted good and cheap. This Sony headset should fit the bill for me. It is a little fuller in the bass than I am used to, but the clarity is considerably better. I described my old Awia headset as being balanced and natural - like a concert hall - and not in need of an equalizer. In comparison I think I would describe this Sony headphone as full and clear, like a studio - more like listening through an enclosed headphone than an open headphone. It's not quite like my old headphones, but quite satisfactory. I think if you like a full bass response you will like this headphone set.
I don't feel as though these are going to fall off my head - actually they are quite tight and I am going to see if I can relax the headband a bit.

Too much treble.......2007-12-07
These headphones put out too much treble in relation to the bass. The sound is not balanced. To make it worse, the treble that it does put out gives the sound a rough quality. They may be compact and convenient, but they're not fot someone with a good ear.
Headset.......2007-11-22
This is very conventient and has great sound. It folds up perfectly to put in the DVD case. Just what I wanted
You get what you paid for!.......2007-11-05
These Sonys are possibly the worst quality headphones I have ever purchased in the $20 to $25 price range. You can't hear any bass and they distort at a relatively low volume. I give them 2 stars for the foldable design.
Nice Sound, folding is convenient........2007-05-13
These are relatively comfortable. I like being able to fold them as I tend to tangle and snap the cheaper non-foldable ones. These have a good sound, even on the computer.
Fantastic quality and price!.......2007-01-28
These headphones are a great bargain for the size and sound quality. I take these to the gym every day and they easily collapse to fit in the pocket of my sweatshirt. They are easy to snap into a comfortable position, they stay put, and have great sound quality to keep me going through my workout. I was looking for lightweight, foldable headphones that would allow me to hear the bass in my favorite songs, and these definitely do the job at a reasonable price! Highly recommend!

Go for the light style yet still attain great sound without plugging your ears. Sony MDR-210TV delivers authentic stereo from any portable device or hook it up to your TV at home for private listening. An in-line volume control lets you adjust loudness to meet your listening needs.
Product Description
Your personal audio experience begins with Sony's MDR-F1 Full-Open-Air stereo headphones. Featuring a Full-Open-Air system for a wider stereo soundstage, a Newly Developed Extra-Large Driver Unit with an Acoustic Bass Lens, and Ecsaine head and ear pad material, these headphones bring you exploding sound and comfort as you listen. Its Magnesium Alloy Frame and Super Duralumin Headband add to its creative design.
Amazon.com Product Description
The MDR-F1 full-open-air headphones provide top-end comfort and sound quality. Sony's full-open-air system gives you a wider stereo soundstage; it accomplishes this by placing the drive units at the rear of your ears, providing a more spacious sound. The die-cast magnesium alloy frame and super duralumin headband are lightweight and strong. These materials withstand both flexing and resonance. The double headband distributes the small amount of weight evenly, while the leatherette head and ecsaine earpad material provide comfortable materials for next-to-the-skin luxury. The eleven foot cord (3.5 meters) is single-sided to minimize cord tangle.
Sony has installed several key features to these headphones to make their sound quality excellent. The fifty millimeter drive units delivers a deep bass sound and a wide dynamic range (the frequency range extends down to 10 Hz.) The MDR-F1 headphones require no amplifier impedance matching hardware. Sony's Impedance Compensator equalization circuitry, built into the headphones, eliminates sound variations caused by amp impedance differences. Both the stereo mini-plug and the screw-in UniMatch plug are gold-plated to make sure sound is transported fully and accurately. The gold-plated treatment also helps resist corrosion and supports the headphones' high conductivity and low noise. High-power neodymium magnets allow for maximum power at a minimum size. Finally, the acoustic bass lens works with the PET diaphragm to deliver very deep bass sound.
Excellent fit, excellent compatibility and excellent sound: these headphones fit the bill for a sound professional. They come with a hard carrying case for transport protection.

High Quality Headphones to brag about!.......2005-02-20
The Sony MDR-F1 Headphones are a respected headphone in the industry, and for a good many number of reasons. First I would like to say that these are NOT studio headphones. They have studio quality speakers, but because they are open-air style headphones, there will be a little other background noise.
With that said I will now brag about these amazing stereo headphones. They weigh practically nothing when on your head because of the band that lifts them from your head. There is also little place where these headphones touch your head, and don't touch your ear at all. They are the standard for real and true open air style. There is no place where they even graze your ear, even with a large ear like me. They can look really cool, and they are EXTREMELY LOUD when you need them to be. They can easily be plugged into a laptop and be used as external speakers to save energy as well as increase volume level. They pair with many portable audio players, especially ones that support 8 ohm output.
But that is just comfort and style. The sound is a totally seperate story. Talk about AMAZING!! I comapred them to my friends noise-canceling Bose headphones, and there were many differences. Please note that I turned the noise-cancelation on for the tests, so give it as much help as it could get. Now I should mention that I am a real Audiophile, and can be very picky about this. I rated the sound of the MDR's on a 1-10 scale, with 1 at Discusting and 10 for Unbelievable.
For lower Frequences like a bass guitar or the main beat of a r&b song, they are number one. In there description from sony it is pointed out that they have a special driver on the speaker that aids in clarity and pronouncieation of the bass. And how amazing they work. Simply un-deniable bass from these. It made the Bose look like third-rate over-priced paper-cone speakers. 11/10 for bass.
For midtones sony did what they do normally, giving it the standard design for those mid frequencies that include slightly lower voices and classical music. But don't underestimate the beauty of Sony and mid's. However Bose out-did them here. I believe that Bose loves to get to this on most of there woofers, so I was expecting this. for the MDR's, I give it 8.5/10 for mids
The High Notes. To many this is the most important. Due to the large size of the speakers and the solid construction, the high notes came out most exelent. Even on the highest pitches, there was no hiss or the very common rattle at high notes. They are made from a solid metal frame which has taken a lot, and can take the High's very well. Now when I compared this to the Boses' I Had trouble noticing any differences, and had to get out my meter on my computer that displays and remakes frequencies to do something like this. Both are almost equal contenders, with the only difference is that the Bose will be a little quietter on the hights, but by about +/- .03 dB. Thats not much. So little that I eventually gave up and said that they were as close to perfect as any will get. 10/10.
But there is something to considder when deciding what to get. "What am I going to listen to and where?" If you are on the plane a lot and like classical music to calm your nerves then bose. If you Rock out a lot and are in school or the office a lot, the Sony's are better in this case. Plus the Range of the sound. Love that bass? sony. Cant get enough of the vocals? Bose. It is very much on taste, and since I LOVE rock of all kinds the MDR-F1's were a blessing from God. I understand that Pioneer is also coming out with a new headphone that is very simmilar to both of these combined, which is also a thing to considder. One last thing. Open-Air Design. If you like to listen to music and only the music, this is not the good style for you. But if you feel better off knowing when someone is talking to you when you are listening to music, the MDR-F1 is the answer. And both of these headphones look a little funny on some people, but very few. The sony's look awkward on a tall and thin person with a suit on and a briefcase, but the Bose's look incredibly expensive, and they are, and are not for the t-shirt wearing pedestrian or casual man or woman. Again it is all about taste.
best headphones ever. period........2005-01-04
To this day, I have never felt strongly enough about any product to write a review about it.
But, for anyone considering this set of headphones, i must tell you this.
You will never find a better sounding AND incredibly comfortable set ANYWHERE.
I purchased more than one just in case the one i had somehow broke.
You cant go wrong!

Totally useless Too Too loud.......2005-01-24
These are 100% useless headpohone. They are too loud. I have to buy another headpohne Either Sony MDR-v150 or Sennheiser HD 202 Closed Headphones. Save your $15 by not buying this crap.
awsome!.......2004-12-26
I do admit that if u dont have these headphones on a certain way that they hurt ur ears. And i think they need to be worn in for a couple days. my last pair of full ear headphones did also. But other than that they are awsome. Best sound quality thta ive heard in a while. Very comfortable (if u have them on right). They also look really cool..They do feel like u have earmuffs on tho lol. But i do recommend these headphones to anybody thats on a tight budget and wants good quality, good sounding headphones.
Ouch!!!!!.......2003-06-18
First let me start out by saying that these headphones sound excellent for the price I dont think I've heard better in this price range, Great bass and you can hear everything clear.
Now on the the bad news, I bought these phones before a long roadtrip, I listened to them for about 2 hours and when I took them off I screamed in pain. Why? Well the phones were nice enough to dig into my ears and they were sooo red, they didn't stop hurting for like a half-hour.
GREAT SOUND BUT THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE HEADPHONES EVER MADE!!!!
Product Description
Lightweight open-air headphones are comfortable to wear, even for extended periods. The 30mm diameter drive units are larger than most headphones for noticeably deeper bass, lower distortion and wider dynamic range; frequency response extends down to a low 18Hz. The Sony Acoustic Turbo Circuit makes for high efficiency and gets high sonic output from your portable stereo - plus it extends bass response.
Amazon.com Product Description
These Sony headphones are lightweight, economical, and comfortable. The MDR-101LP stereo headphones have an adjustable, overhead headband which allow you to fit them perfectly to your head's shape. The open-air design removes undesirable resonance by allowing outside air to pass through the headphones; the result is a better sounding headphone. The thirty millimeter drivers deliver deep bass. The Sony Acoustic Turbo circuit is included for high efficiency; it gets high sonic output from your portable stereo, and extends bass response. Put together, these two features help counter the tendency of headphones to sound cheap and bass-low. The long, one meter (3.3 feet) Y-style cord allows for ample movement and separation from the sound source.

Good deal.......2006-11-10
Good sound, reasonable price. Would recommend this product to anyone who does not need an extra long cord.
Good sound but very short (less than a metre!) cable........2006-06-10
The sound quality of the headphone is very good but I was very disappointed since the cable was so short (around 36 inches/ 90cm). I was struggling to hook it upto your computer and sit properly on the chair. Infact I could only use it either on a portable CD player or sitting on the floor near my PC to be able to listen music through it! Also, please note that although the headphone is of Sony brand, it is made in China and not (as I thought) Japan.
Overall conclusion: Good sound quality but very short cable. Please consider the cable length which can bother you espically when using it on your computer.
Sony for this price???.......2006-02-12
I used ReadPlease - a super program that reads back anything you past into it - to edit my novels. I enjoy the headphones because it keeps me focused. I was using the earbud styles (...)and running through them because they just too flimsily made. Plus, when you are editing for 13 hours straight having the buds in you ear begins to make me feel like I have earaches.
These are SUPER. First, Sony -- enough said. They are VERY lightweight. I often forget I have them on, so when I am going for long hours, these are so easy. They have nice long slid adjustments so they will fit any head in comfort.
But comfort means nothing if you are getting muffled or distorted sound. Not that case. I love is the deep, rich base, yet the treble is pure, too.
So these are more than worth the price, giving you real comfort and sound for pennies.
Bang For Your Buck!.......2005-02-14
Well, I needed some new headphones. I tried the UR5 from Koss. The sound quality was alright, but they could BARELY be heard. I found these, thinking Sony, would make headphones with better and louder sound. I was right.
The good news is that the sound quality is excellent. Sony headphones always seem to have more punch than other Koss, RCA, Panasonic, and other brands of headphones. The bass and treble are clear, and bass is pretty deep as other $6 headphones I've tried. I would have enjoyed the headphones that came with my player (SLSV570), but they were uncomfortable, and I mean VERY. These are pretty comfortable and lightweight, as the box explains.
The bad news is the overall durability of these headphones, which is a big minus. I've been though two of these, yet the third ones haven't broken yet at all (keeping my fingers crossed).
The price is very reasonable and very cheap, and I wouldn't have a problem buying another pair, because of their cheapness.
Overall, these headphones add a punch to your music, and the volume is loud for those quiet CD players.
Good Value for the Kids!.......2004-05-22
Great basic headphones for the kids. Why spend more on something likely to be stepped on, yanked on, or lost?

You get what you pay for.......2003-10-14
These are pretty good actually. Slightly larger than regular portable headphones, they have a nice, deep sound. They're as comfortable as wearing nothing at all (I use them for periods of 4 hours in a row or more.
What the previous reviewer said about low output volume -- not true. I use these on my computer at the office, and they can blast my eardrums out if I turn the volume to the max.
DON'T BUY IT.......2003-08-28
I can not believe this is a Sony!
When I connect it with my portal cd player, The sound is so sucks, and i feel the singer is so far away from me (weird?). And the volumn control can only manage a very small range.
I have a $$ Philips, which can provide much much better than this one. And I have a Sony MDR-CD280, which is a little expensive than this one ($$ from fry's), but provide much much better sound. And I have a sennheiser HD 580, nevertheless to say, it is the best among all headphones i have, but it is too expensive (about $$$).
After all, I strongly recommend u do NOT buy this thing.
I have one complain - Sound.......2002-10-24
For 20 bucks, you don't expect much.
Well you should, if it's coming from Sony. These headphones have amazing quality. If you can stand the technical talk, it has a frequency response of 14-20K Hz, 100 dB/mW sensitivity, and the basic 24 ohms at 1 kHz. All in all, very nice features. These headphones pick up very interesting sounds, sounds which are not usually heard in other sets, and the best thing is, it does so at very low volume settings. I truly am impressed with the bass these things pull out. And above all the sound is clear. It's still not as crisp and fresh as Koss SportaPros or high-end Sonys. The sound is very deep in fact, the type you want if you listen to hip-hop and dance songs.
One of the most important things to look for in headphones is comfort, and these things deliver in that category. I for one have always detested this design because the headband always slid off my head. But these fit around my head perfectly and slide off only in the most intense situations.
My complain is, these things give out next to no sound. 32-ohms is incredibly weak.
The verdict? Wear these to the office. Most high school/college students will want something that delivers sound whenever in a crowded bus or in the hallways.
A good buy, but it depends on what you want.
