i enjoy the sound these headphones give, but they are very fragile and have broken in several places, just from general use, fortunately not around the earpiece but i would still expect better for my money.

I'm going to agree with what a lot of reviewers said, in that they probably aren't worth $150.00. That being said, I got them as a gift and I love them because they are extremely comfortable, to the point where even if they are not the highest quality headphones, the sheer comfort factor makes up for it in spades. I've been using them with my desktop and laptop computer for about a year whenever I'm on late at night when my wife is asleep. I take care of them, so I haven't had an issue with them breaking in the year I've owned them. Withing a few minutes of wearing them, I forget that I have headphones on at all. They're that comfortable. They are not constructed with heavy materials, and as a result they come off as being somewhat fragile, but extremely lightweight, which is a big contributing factor to the comfort. This is the reason to buy them, not durability or sound quality, although they are passable in both of these categories. It's up to the buyer to determine whether that comfort factor is worth the price. If these broke, I'm certain I could easily get them replaced if they are still under warranty, as everybody seems to rave about Bose customer service. If I had to buy a pair to replace them, I would probably hold off until if/when the price comes down. I would definitely look forward to picking up another pair for a more reasonable price, though.
Comments on the Triports - windy conditions & headband.......2007-11-13
The sound of the TriPorts is excellent. Nice clean bass. I traded in Bose QC2's for this model, since the QC2's are always powered and I heard hiss between passages. Since this unit is a passive device, no such problem.
After one year, the headband broke and Bose replaced it. It was not as durable as I would have liked to see. Also, when used outside in breezes greater than about 10 mph, the wind rushes past the open port holes in the earcups and generates an annoying sound like "wind blowing across a microphone". These headphones are not too good for outdoor use when there is wind.
When I traded in my headphones, I was told by Bose that the Blue color was being phased out in favor of Silver. Silver is so visible that the headphones attract too much attention, so I prefer the Blue color.
Get the Sony MDR-7506.......2007-10-25
After two years of use I just gave up. They are very fragile and break easily. I am surprised that no one has mentioned that you can hurt yourself when they snap. I have gone through two pairs. I now have the Sony MDR-7506. It puts rings around the Bose. Bose products, in general, have gone downhill. A year ago I bought a pair of Bose speakers for $99. When I opened the box I discovered that the speakers did not have an on/off switch. After about three months I started to hear a hum coming from the speakers even when the volume was at zero. And guess what? You can't turn off the set.
Sony MDR 7506 vs. Bose Triport.......2007-10-07
We just did a side-by-side comparison of these and a pair of Sony Pro MDR-7506 Headphones. We swapped them back and forth on the same jack on the same PC playing the same music using iTunes.
The Sony MDR 7506's, being studio monitor quality, are without any doubt MUCH clearer at all frequencies and make you sound like you are there, while the Bose Triports were muddy and distant. The Sony MDR 7506's are less expensive as well. The triports are just a bit lighter, smaller and have a thinner cord, which you may find useful for mobile use. My choice between the two for serious listening would be the Sony MDR 7506. If you are an audiophile, you will immediately notice the difference and will want the Sony Pro MDR-7506 Headphones.

Built for comfort but not durability.......2007-12-02
I'm on my third (and last) pair of the Tri-Port headphones. The sound is good and they are very comfortable to wear for extended periods. The problem is that they are fragile and cheaply made.
My first two pair failed because the jack is a poorly made molded plastic item that can't stand even moderately heavy use. The wires inside the jack become disconnected and sound from one or both ears is lost. Bose replaced the first two pair (still under warranty) but the current pair has failed in the same way.
Think twice about buying these headphones. If you ever remove and reinsert the jack on a regular basis, I guarantee that it will eventually fail.
Great lightweight cans.......2007-10-28
I bought these about a year ago to replace a pair of ten year old Sonys that I had worn into retirement.
I'm not an audiophile. I don't spend tons of money on stereo systems making sure that everything is just perfect. I am concerned about being a member of a generation with the potential to go deaf at an early age, and I wanted a pair of headphones that would prevent sound leakage and hopefully encourage me to turn the sound down.
I like them. It does take a bit to get used to a new pair of headphones, and I found these made the treble a bit hissy. I don't turn my bass up. I have noticed instruments and sound effects more clearly in various songs that I hadn't before, which I found really interesting.
These are lightweight, but the cushioning is good and the rubber doesn't come off on the back of my ears like the others did. They aren't preventative of outside sound, but definitely keep the sound inside the cans.
My only complaint is that the cord seems like it could be more substantial for such an expensive piece of equipment. It isn't flimsy, but it's surprising that they didn't make these with a telephone cord like connection.

of course it has the best sound. and it muffles other sounds nicely.
BUT it pushes my earrings into my head because it fits so tightly (and I have a small head). I have to tuck my small hoops in or I ache...
worth the price, yes if you are picky about sound quality. If you do not know good quality, save money

The headphones have a great range of frequencies, sound great for everything I use them for (piano keyboard, ipod, video games, general computer use) You won't be disappointed with the quality at all.
Also, my package arrived promptly and the headphones were NIB and wedged between two air-pillow packaging things. Much appreciated considering the price of this product.

I bought these headphones when I heard them at the Apple Store when I bought my iPod. The quality of the sound just blew me away. Great range of sound. The bass is just sweet. What more can I say? You want to truly enjoy that iPod this is how to do it.
I am usually quite fussy about sound quality. I would highly recommend these headphones for your listening pleasure.
