Sharp Aquos is amazing.......2007-11-08
I absolutely LOVE this tv. I just purchased it a couple weeks ago and this was after months of searching for the right tv. The picture on it is amazing and it have good sound quality. The tv itself is very aesthetically pleasing and from a girls perspective very cute. It shipped right away and I had it less than a week afer I purchased it. I'm overall very happy with my purchase.
Sharp's 6ms Refresh Rate Makes A Big Difference........2007-10-29
In my opinion, the Sharp LC-32D43U and LC-32D42U provide the best overall value for the money, when compared to comparably priced 720p native resolution LCD TVs.
I have owned the Sharp LC-32D42U for 4 months now and I couldn't be happier. The Sharp LC-32D42U and LC-32D43U 720p TVs are identical, with these exceptions: The 42U has a low-gloss frame with a silver base while the 43U has a high-gloss screen frame with a black base. (The 42U is a lower cost warehouse version and the 43U is a higher cost department store version.)
One downside to these Sharp TVs is that they reportedly do not do well deinterlacing or recognizing 3:2 pulldown when fed 1080i signals. However, when fed their native 720p signals, these TVs perform beautifully. Some reviews also mention subpar standard-definition 480i video processing (I rarely watch analog TV or VHS); fewer picture adjustments than many LCDs (this has not presented a problem for me); inability to change aspect ratios with HDMI sources (this won't bother purists who appreciate a movie director's intended aspect ratio). When fed a 720p signal from a cable or satellite box, HD reception looks great. (Sharp also recommends that the 720p output setting be used with Blu-Ray and HD players.) I have not experimented with the computer input, but most people report being satisfied with it.
In spite of its faults, the main attraction of these two Sharp LCDs is that they produce outstanding picture quality with 720p input: Deep blacks, vivid contrast, accurate colors and a very fast 6ms refresh rate which makes a big difference during fast motion scenes. When viewed next to comparably priced Sony, Samsung and Toshiba LCDs with 8ms refresh rates during fast panning and other fast motion scenes, the clarity of the Sharp TVs is vastly superior. This fast refresh rate is also the reason that many gamers prefer the Sharp TVs.
Unlike several other LCD brands, all of the Sharp digital processing (automatic brightness, enhanced picture contrast, black level expansion and digital noise reduction) can be disabled. The LC-32D42U can be found in the $700 range, making it a much better buy than its higher priced fraternal twin, the LC-32D43U. Also, the industry trend toward low-gloss LCD screen frames (such as the one found on the LC-32D42U) makes good sense, because black matte screen frames do not reflect room light or show dust and fingerprints.
Admittedly, the Sharp TVs do not have the greatest sound. However, the Sharp TVs can be configured to variable stereo audio output (simultaneously muting the TV's internal speakers) and the volume level of external self powered speakers (I am using an Altec Lansing 3-piece computer speaker system) can be controlled with the Sharp remote. Wireless headphones can also be used, with full volume control from the remote and the TV also has an optical output which can be used to direct digital sound to a surround sound receiver.
Great LCD for the money.......2007-10-24
For the money this is a really good LCD. The picture quality is fantastic, but I have to agree with several other reviewers who noted the sound quality of the speakers is pretty disappointing. I had to hookup a pair of external speakers the same afternoon I bought the television. Even with the volume turned up high these speakers just don't deliver much sound. The other thing worth mentioning is that the base of the set doesn't swivel, so if you were hoping to rotate the screen forget it. Setup was easy, and the television weighs next to nothing (I'm guessing 25 lbs or so) compared to our old 27" CRT!
Really nice LCD TV.......2007-10-17
The Sharp Aquos LC32D43U 32" LCD TV is a really nice TV and I am really glad that we bought it. The price was really reasonable and it was an excellent deal for what you got.
The picture quality is first rate.
Highly recommended!
Great Picture - Bad Sound.......2007-10-09
Picture on the TV is very good. However, expect to use external audio as the enclosed speakers are of amazingly poor quality.

Very solid and worth every penny!.......2007-10-07
OK first off, i did a lot of shopping when i was looking into getting myself an LCD for the first time.
I got this unit at another site for around 700 bucks shipped.
Mostly play xbox 360 on it and all i can say is "WOW", every game on it is light years ahead of my old CRT
The HD channels are perfect too and the only con i can think of is that Standard Television isnt so clear, but that is a small price to pay when thinking of the big picture
Beautiful TV.......2007-08-24
Its really hard to express the difference watching on a high quality hdtv makes. This is a beautiful brilliant TV with tons of inputs and great quality. I've owned for 2 months with no problems. Some complain about the size of the remote and the speakers, but both seem plenty adequate to me. I would recommend this tv to anyone.

This is an excellent TV with great picture quality. The only issue is its warmth. Since I have this set placed in bedroom, the heat is unbearable especially in the summer. Anyone experience the same problem?

Amazon.com Product Description
Sharp's LC-32D40U high-definition LCD HDTV proves you don't have to sacrifice style for technology. This gorgeous 32-inch set features a strikingly shiny piano black cabinet that will become an elegant centerpiece to any room. It also features the latest Sharp screen and video processing innovations, as well as an integrated HDTV tuner, a space-saving design with bottom-mounted speakers, included stand, pure digital audio/video connectivity with two HDMI inputs, and a rapid-fire response time of 6 ms (milliseconds)--perfect for watching fast-action sports and movies.
This set features Sharp's proprietary Advanced Super View (ASV) LCD panel technology, which uses an enhanced color filter that permits more light throughput. This increases the contrast ratio by 150 percent to 1200:1 for pure whites, deep blacks, and a higher range of colors. Sharp's Quick Shoot video circuitry provides an ultra-fast pixel response time of 6 ms, which helps to ensure excellent detail and smooth motion during high-speed scene transitions. The screen also offers a low-reflection coating to reduce the effect of sunlight and interior lighting to provide vivid large-screen pictures wherever you install your LCD television.
The built-in ATSC tuner pulls HD signals right from the airwaves, and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming. The screen delivers a true 1366 x 768-pixel HDTV resolution, and it also features a wide 176-degree viewing angle and 450 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating--perfect for viewing colorful details in even direct sunlight.
You'll enjoy enveloping audio from the set's built-in 20-watt bottom-mounted stereo speakers (10 watts per channel), which can also produce virtual Dolby surround sound. It provides the following connection options:
- Composite AV (RCA): 3 in
- S-Video: 1 in
- Component Video: 2 in
- HDMI: 2 in
- RF: 1 in
- Total analog audio in: 4
- Analog audio out: 1
- Digital optical: 1 out
Tech Talk
HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It supports all ATSC formats--standard (SDTV), enhanced (EDTV), and high (HDTV).
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

Good picture but poor reliability.......2007-11-02
While this set produces a good picture the video has failed in a similar manner to other Amazon reviews. If you must have this set an extended service warranty is highly recommended. (This is a Best Buy purchase.) Our set first started losing video at 11 months. We had a service call and the TV went another month or two before acting up again. If it were not for the extended warranty we would have been out of luck at this point. To cut to the chase, after three service calls and three visits the set was pronounced unrepairable and we're being allowed to get a replacement TV of any brand from Best Buy.
Don't believe all the negatives.......2007-10-16
I've had this TV for nearly a year and haven't had any problems with it. The picture is great, and makes my PS3 look fabulous. Be aware that some of the negatives are isolated problems, and some are even about shipping, which have nothing to do with the product.
Now, I do have some minor squabbles about this TV:
1) The remote sucks. Its hard to get used to and is laid out very strange.
2) The channel delay when flipping through is horrible. I now have a DVR that my cable runs through so it isn't a problem anymore.
Just do your research before purchasing a TV like this. As for my opinion, this is a good TV for the price.
Died after 11mo.......2007-08-30
This TV worked great for 10 months. The picture appeared better than similarly priced TVs at the time. Sharp, bright, color seemed good, tuner seemed to work well with an amplified table-top antenna. The menu system was probably the biggest weakness. Also, it used the 5.001, 5.002 format, which is a pain when you want the digital version of channel 5.
But then, after 10 months, the picture randomly started going dark. Channel changing worked, audio worked. Now, after 11months, all that happens is the "Please wait" screen appeared - then darkness. Now, fortunately under warranty, we are trying to get it repaired. But this is totally unacceptable quality for a name-brand product with significant cost. Two weeks now no TV (not that that is the worst thing in the world) - does the warranty provide for a loaner?
Very clean.......2007-07-19
Excellent, clean easy to use, affordable HDTV brings the wide screen comfortably to compact rooms. I like the way it handles regualr DVD's better than the Sony Bravia - I think it upsamples better. Excellent image sharpness, color, contrast, motion.
Stay FAR Away!.......2007-06-14
To sum it up, buying this LCD has been one of the worst shopping experiences of my life.
I have been wowed by Sharp's extremely good picture quality and value in the past; so, I finally decided to give in and buy a "name brand" LCD after reading stellar reviews on this particular model of LCD.
The television came and I couldnt have been more excited about the beautiful packaging and the beautiful design of the television. It really is a beautiful television and I was very excited to see how it compared to my Olevia LCD that I've had for roughly two years.
I hooked my Xbox 360 up via component inputs, and the excitment died. The colors were dull, red push completely apalling, and the television exhibited artifacts and jaggies even in the Xbox 360's dashboard menu. I tried calibration with DVDs for the better part of an hour just while staying in the dashboard, and then I tried a game. Not only did reds STILL look pink, but the colors were dull and there were MAJOR ghosting issues. Ghosting was so bad I couldn't even play games; they made me sick. Buyer's remorse began to set in. DVDs and even such "action packed" channels such as PBS also exhibited these ghosting issues; people's faces would literally trail across the screen. My two year old Olevia had significantly better picture quality, color accuracy, and no ghosting either!
So, naturally, I went online to discover many people were having the exact same issues. Not only this, but this television is built by Orion in Thailand; the same brand that makes insignia brand products. This also made me feel cheated. I shouldn't be paying premium prices for a budget brand LCD!
I soon contacted Sharp customer support; and the nightmare began. Simply put, Sharp customer service is by far the worst I've EVER had to deal with in my life. I've worked in customer service for six years and I couldn't believe the things that Sharp does to customers. After being lied to, calling dozens of times, and flat out arguing with customer service; they finally decided to repair my television after a month or two of trying to avoid the issue. After roughly two months, I was finally able to drop off my television at a Sharp authorized service center. A month passed, and I was calling the service center just about three times a week. After THREE months of having no television and not even getting any use of this LCD, Sharp and my service center told me there WERE NO PROBLEMS with this television. Sharp basically admitted to me that they sell an inferior product and the service manager at my repair center said these Sharp were a piece of junk (which reaffirmed my beliefs).
I no longer have the television; after three months of bickering with Sharp I concluded I no longer wanted to deal with the stress or frankly, spend any more of my time. I wish Sharp would reimburse me for the hours I spent on the phone with them.
All I can do is to recommend people stay far away from this product, and possibly even Sharp in general. Which is unfortunate, because they did/do have some great products. That being said, I will likely NEVER buy a Sharp product again.
