Design
One look at this phone and you'll wonder where the phone went. The design is simple, refined, and--once again--thin. The numeric keypad resides below a circular five-way control toggle that controls most of the phone's menus and functions. The large, 176 x 220 display supports up to 65,000 colors, while 10.5 MB of internal memory gives you plenty of room for pictures, contacts, and other data. The t509's VGA camera unit resides on the rear of the phone, and there's a port for plugging in the included hands-free headset.
Calling Features
The t509's phone book can store up to 1000 contacts, phone numbers and addresses, while a call list remembers your most recent missed, received and dialed calls. In addition to a vibrating alert, the t509 supports polyphonic ringtones. You can also download additional ringtones from T-Mobile's t-zones service. A speakerphone lets you talk hands-free while you're doing other things, and picture caller ID lets you assign a photo to specific callers. Similarly, a ringer ID lets you assign ringtones to callers. Like all T-Mobile phones, the t509 also supports voicemail, caller ID, conference calling, call forwarding, call waiting, call hold, built-in paging, and access to T-Mobile's 411 service. Lastly, the phone's Bluetooth connectivity means that your favorite Bluetooth headset is fully compatible.
Need to stay in touch often with some of your closest friends? The t509 is fully compatible with T-Mobile's MyFaves service, which allows you to call up to five of your most common contacts--on any network--without using any of your minutes. Learn more about MyFaves.
Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The t509 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics and sound via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging clients for AOL, Yahoo!, MSN, and ICQ are included.
Getting on the Internet is easy with the t509, too. It supports the GPRS protocol, as well as the new, high speed EDGE data protocol. When used with a T-Mobile data plan and the phone's USB or Bluetooth data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs. There's also a built-in browser for t-zones downloads and mobile Web browsing. T-Mobile's t-zones service lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile text messaging users.
A number of handy productivity tools are bundled with the t509 including a voice memo recorder, an alarm clock, a calculator with unit converter, and a calendar.
Imaging and Entertainment
The t509's built-in VGA (640 x 480) camera captures stills and video to the phone's 10 MB of internal memory. The camera captures videos of up to 15 seconds in length at 176 x 144 resolution.
Meanwhile, if you want to dress up your t509, picture effects, custom screensavers, backgrounds, and themes can be set to fit your personality. Plus, Java support is built into the t509, making it a powerful gaming companion. Games are downloadable via the t-zones service.

love it love it love it!!!.......2007-12-29
When we switched to tmobile from cingular (thank GOD!), this phone was free and I've always liked candy bar or block phones over flip.
At first I was skeptical, but then started using it and it is the best! It's easy to operate: although I had problems with texting at first (yes I'm 22 and am so slow at it!), the alarm system, the ease of the phonebook/speed dialing, showing ALL of the missed calls, programing anything in... it is the best!
I saw someone saying it wouldn't fit in their pants pockets: I SO disagree! I almost always keep it in my back pocket. I usually can't even feel it and forget where it was! It's also really great to throw in a wristlet or a small purse: just make sure it's somewhere easy to grab. It can be slippery because of the slimness.
Overall, I think it's a great phone. I haven't had ANY problems with mine since July 2006 (it's now Dec 2007).
A+ thumbs up! So try it, don't forget there is a warranty if it breaks or sucks.
not the best phone in the world.......2007-11-29
All my friends use the same service as I do and none of them have the clarity problems that I do with this phone. I break up every other sentence while talking to them .. it gets really annoying to have to repeat yourself everytime.
The sound quality kind of sucks. I keep the volume on the highest level and still have to hold my other ear closed and press the phone to my ear to hear most of the time.
other than those problems, I like the phone. The camera takes quality pictures, and texting is easy. Ringing volumes are loud enough to hear anywhere, pretty much.
If I went back in time and knew what I know about this phone, I would not choose it again.
Pretty Good.......2007-08-12
Good sound quality. Great screen. Calendar and alarms alert even when phone is turned off. The charger port malfunctioned and had to be exchanged. My experience with Samsung phones has been that they are good quality and reliable.
Avoid.......2007-06-17
- Battery lasts for short time
- User interface is unintuitive and is not optimized for typically carried out tasks
- The phone manages to unlock itself and start calling people! This situation is even worse if you have a bluetooth headset. This is perhaps the worst thing about this device
Plum Bad.......2007-05-09
I upgraded to this phone about six month ago and have had so many dropped calls. The reception is horrible! Just about every call that is longer than five minutes is dropped. I don't get service in the grocery store, at work, at my boyfriends house or at my mothers house. I don't think that it is the carrier because my previous phone did not have these problems. It is very small and lightweight and the autolock feature is nice. The camera takes clear pictures and the alarm clock has admirable features. The display screen is clear but the buttons are just a little too small for my fingers. I would suggest choosing another phone because having one that does not get service is kind of pointless.

Good Phone, Bad Reception.......2007-12-04
I have had the Samsung T509 for about a year. When in a good coverage area the phone is great. The T509 has the typical Samsung easy to use menus, big bright clear display and tons of other features in a slim attractive package. The problem with this phone is the design and placement of it's internal antenna in the bottom of the phone! The signal is always 1 to 2 bars less than my previous C225 and my Wife's Nokia 6101, Because of this design malfunction you can plan on losing another bar or two when you hold the phone since your hand shields the antenna during a call. Consequently the phone will drop calls much easier than other phones with better antennas. If the reception was better this would be a 5 star phone, but when it comes down to it, it has to be able to make and receive calls, otherwise it is just a pretty paperweight no matter how many gee whiz features the phone has.
Pros:
Slim Design
Large, Bright, Clear Display
Easy to Navigate Menus
Bluetooth
Call quality (when good coverage is available)
Cons:
Poor Antenna Design
Reception weaker than other phones
Speaker Phone Volume
Little annoyances add up........2007-09-12
Why sure we do MP3 ringtones!
(But you can't load your own, you have to buy them from us!)
(Found the workaround for that one, which involves saving the MP3 as an M4A, changing the extension to 3GP, and then bluetoothing it to the phone and finding the file in the videos directory.)
We support headsets!
(We only offer one style to connect to our proprietary connector, which is an earbud style and very fragile, and there are only apparently 3 other models available from other makers, all of which are also earbud style.)
(Earbuds don't work in my ears, at least not without a Jabra eargel. I could go bluetooth, but that's just one more thing to keep charged.)
Power, headset, no problem!
(...just not at the same time!)
(See above comment about bluetooth.)
Absolutely you can set the phone to vibrate and ring!
(It just won't do them at the same time, so you get shortchanged on -both-.)
(At least it's thin and small enough to carry in a pocket where I can usually feel it before it starts its pathetically quiet ring.)
Oh, goodness! The power's running low! I'll send you a ridiculously quiet warning tone and turn on the LCD to tell you about it, and keep the LCD on way longer than I normally would just to make sure you know! After all, the battery -is- draining!
....Yeeah. After over a year of use and annoyance at the basic stuff, I'm calling my Samsung T509 a loser. I'm going back to Nokia as soon as I find a T-Mobile candybar I like.
Batteries are too poor to be tolerated!.......2007-07-03
This cell phone is okay except the battery is so poor, you have to charge it from time to time.
Each charge will only go on for 2-3 days even with a low load of talking.
I would transfer my next phone to nokia for a better battery time.
horrible, had to switch 3 times.......2007-06-24
do not buy this. it drops incoming calls, does not allow you to make calls..
I switched machines 3 times with t-mobile (paid for shipping each time) then had to buy another phone online (tmobile would not give me another type of phone!!)
Great basic phone.......2007-06-13
I got this phone with t-mobile to go plan for $49.99 and am pretty happy with it. I never had any problems with sound quality as others seem to be having. The phone is beautiful and really thin. One might complain about it being a bit long but I'm more comfortable with it than shorter phones. The vibration mode of this phone is somewhat weak, and I've missed calls specially when I'm walking. The only way to transfer data to or from you computer is via bluetooth which unfortunately my computer doesn't support. Camera is decent and can take 640x480 pictures which works for me. Memory is around 10 MB. I don't think it has an expandable memory slot. These things apart I really like the phone.

no instructions, no customer service, useless product.......2007-12-06
I have a SGH-A717, a phone present in their list, unless you already know everything this product is useless, the driver from their web page doesn't work, the posted info is so limited to be useless too
The discription is correct........2007-08-24
I received my cable in two days in perfect condition. Exact item for my SYNC phone (SGH-A707). Never tried the software because that is not what I was interested in. I went to Samsung website and got some software there, because the website printed on the disk is not available. Thanks for the good, accurate and speedy service.
Software not compatible for SGH-A707.......2007-08-09
The USB cable is working as I expected but the CD that comes with it doesn't have the drivers for SGH-A707. The price is A LOT cheaper than what you would get at the AT&T website even after adding shipping charges. I'm happy with it overall.

Somehow, Samsung has also managed to fit some amazing features into this small package, including stereo Bluetooth, a music player, support for EDGE high-speed data, a speakerphone, a 1.3 Megapixel camera, and perhaps most impressively, the t519 also sports a Micro SD/TransFlash memory slot.
Design
The t519 takes the candybar form factor and runs it under a steamroller, making this one of the flattest phones on the market. Constructed of fiberglass-infused plastic, the case might be thin, but it's also strong enough to handle rough and tumble days. The large, 220 x 176 display supports up to 262,000 colors -- plenty of resolution and color depth for your videos and photos. A five-way center control button is positioned below the display, as are shortcut and selection keys. The phone's 1.3 megapixel camera is housed on the rear of the phone, and a USB data port is provided, as well. Side keys allow you to quickly control the volume while you're on a call.
Calling Features
The t519 is designed to hold 1000 contacts, phone numbers and addresses. A call list remembers your most recent missed, received and dialed calls, and in addition to a vibrating alert, the phone supports polyphonic ringtones and MP3-based music ringtones. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone, and more ringtones can be downloaded from T-Mobile's t-zones service. A speakerphone lets you talk hands-free while you're doing other things, and picture caller ID lets you assign a photo to specific callers. Similarly, a ringer ID lets you assign ringtones to callers. The t519's Bluetooth wireless technology lets talk freely on a wireless headset or sync up seamlessly with your PC and other compatible Bluetooth devices. You can even use it with wireless stereo headphones. Like all T-Mobile phones, the t519 supports voice mail, caller ID, conference calling, call forwarding, call waiting, call hold, built-in paging, and access to T-Mobile's 411 service.
A 1.3 megapixel camera is housed in the back.
|
Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The t519 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics and sound via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun.
Getting on the Internet is easy with the t519, too. It supports the GPRS protocol, as well as the high speed EDGE data protocol. When used with T-Mobile data service and the phone's USB or Bluetooth data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs. There's also a built-in browser for downloads and mobile Web browsing.
A number of handy productivity tools are bundled with the t519 including an alarm clock, a calculator with currency converter, a calendar, and a timer. And because the t519 supports the SyncML synchronization standard, you can easily sync your PC-based contacts via USB or Bluetooth.
Imaging and Entertainment
The t519's built-in 1.3 megapixel camera captures still pictures and video images, and you can easily print your pictures without a PC, thanks to the phone's PictBridge compatibility. Simply connect the phone via USB to a PictBridge-compatible printer and print away.
Into music? You're in luck with the t519. The t519 can play your favorite music. With the built-in memory card slot- and a few memory cards- the t519 can play all your music. Store your favorite MP3- or AAC-based music on the t519 and listen whenever the feeling strikes you on the built-in stereo speakers. When you want to jam out in private you can use a Bluetooth wireless stereo headset. Lastly, if you want to dress up your t519, picture effects, custom screensavers, backgrounds, and themes can be set to fit your personality.
Java support is built into the t519, making it a powerful gaming companion. You can also download games directly to the device, or use the handset's USB data connection to load more games and files onto the phone. Games are available via the T-Mobile t-zones service.
Vital Statistics
The Samsung SGH-t519 weighs 2.50 ounces and measures 4.45 x 1.97 x 0.30 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 6.0 hours of digital talk time, and up to 192 hours of digital standby time. Samsung T519 Fragile.......2007-11-09
The phone is sleek, indeed. I do like it. You can put it in your pocket or a suit pocket, and nothing shows. Very comfortable to carry around. Buttons are too close together and volume does sound low. Battery life is somewhat good. Make sure that you have a charger in your car, work and home. They are cheap to come by, so why not? The phone is fragile. I got mad at the phone for dropping a call, and I flexed it lightly. The phone snapped in half. It still worked. I taped it up and used it. I did end up bying a bad phone on ebay to replace the casing. If you go that route, make sure that the keyboard works. When the phone snaps, that is the only cable that gets broken. So you could get a decent looking, bad phone with a bad display and as long as the keyboard is good, you can replace it.
Overall, I am satisfied with it.
I love this phone........2007-09-28
I am in love with this phone. Sure it has a few minor flaws, but overall I am so satisfied. I have been a samsung user since I started up with Tmobile about 4 years ago. This is now my 4th phone and my favorite. After my third samsung I switched to motoralla and hated it, so I went online and paid for the upgrade for this phone. It's slim and nice looking. It has an excellent big screen that you can set pictures to that you have taken. It also has a pretty good camera. The speaker phone is pretty loud, but the volume is kind of quiet. The slots to charge the phone and for the memory card are just plastic so they can break easily but I've had this phone for over 9 months and have not broken them yet. It's a thin phone so it's easy to drop and lose, but I just bought a great silicone skin cover that fits perfectly so it will help with the dropping of it. It's a nice phone so just be careful with it. I love it.
NO BLUETOOTH MP3 LISTENING--PER SAMSUNG!.......2007-08-02
I got this phone thinking that I could go buy a bluetooth stereo headset and use it for voice calls as well as listening to MP3 music--wrong! Yes, you can use a Bluetooth stereo headset for voice calls, but you can NOT listen to MP3 music through your Bluetooth stereo headset. Not good news--I though that I had misread the description here incorrectly, but I actually got a T-Mobile Tech Support person to call Samsung directly and she confirmed it....
So yes, you can listen to MP3s over the tinny little speaker in the phone or through the tinny little speaker on the MONO headset that is included with the phone--but not through a Bluetooth stereo headset... So why bother with this phone if you are like me and want to listen to your tunes in stereo and through a Bluetooth headset?
Great Phone, but T-Mobile has crippled some features.......2007-06-14
This phone is great for talking and makes a great MP3 player when you get a micro-sd card to go with it. light, small, good sound, good battery life... etc.
T-Mobile has however crippled some of the functionality that make this phone look really apealing:
1) No full screen video.
2) No ringtones or wallpapers off the microSD card - files must be copied to phone.
3) No 3rd Party Apps
4) No JAVA app connectivity to the internet - thus killing lots of options.
5) No JAVA Serial support
6) Codes for usual samsung features (JAVA Serial, etc) do not work
7) The only highlight color for the display is pink - unchangeable.
8) No changing softkeys in standby mode - unchangeable from "Menu" and "t-zones". This should be a simple option in the software as it usually is, t-mo took it out.
9) Crippled pop3/imap support. bleh.
10) Ringtones capped at 30s.
Some people have complained about a file size limit on MP3s but I can listen to 22MB MP3 podcasts from the memory card on mine. The caveat with MP3s is that they must be 192kbps or smaller in quality.(bitrate)
You will be satisfied with this phone if you want a phone and mp3 player with a half decent camera, but heavy customizers should look elsewhere (Samsung X820).
Fragile!.......2007-06-01
Pretty much everything about the various features of this phone have been debated in the reviews so I'll skip that. However, one thing that should be noted is that this phone is way too fragile. I recently dropped the phone off my desk, a height of not even 4 feet and the screen is utterly destroyed. I'm about to go attempt to somehow either get my money back on my phone or get it repaired. However, if a company is willing to make a phone that cheap, I have a feeling that they probably save money on customer service as well.
