Motorola drivers and the USB data cable.......2007-12-20
I bought this item because I have a MOTORAZR V3m. I was frustrated by the fact that I can only do 15 seconds of video so I wanted to try to modify the .ini files in the phone. This disk and cable helped make it really easy. The disk has the drivers and the cable connects your phone to a USB port. From there all you need is something like Bitpim to upload modified .ini files. All I had to do was modify one string from 15 to 240 and now I can do 4 minutes of video instead of 15 seconds.
And on top of all this the vendor put it all into a cool little velvet sack. Very nice. If you have a clue what I'm talking about then this should be a helpful review.

|
Design
At less than a half-inch thick, the SLVR L7 redefines the ultrathin phone category. A large 176 x 220 color display with 262,000 colors resides above the handset's backlit control pad, which is precision cut from a single sheet of nickel-plated copper alloy. The VGA camera lens is housed on the rear of the phone, while up/down buttons are placed on the left side. There's also a highly accessible mini-USB port on the right side of the phone for data synchronization and music transfer, as well as a covered slot for inserting a microSD or TransFlash memory card. The phone comes pre-installed with a 512 MB card--plenty of room to hold up to 100 songs.
Calling Features
The SLVR L7's internal phone book can hold up to 1,000 contacts, and the phone's picture ID system allows you to assign pictures to your most common callers. It also supports polyphonic ringtones as well as music ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone, and more ringtones can be downloaded from Cingular Wireless's MEdia service. And for times when you want to be discreet, there's a vibrating alert. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear, and voice-activated dialing makes calling your friends, family, and associates as easy as saying their names.
Because the SLVR L7 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total hands-free operation.
Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The SLVR L7 is a messaging and wireless Internet powerhouse. Support is built in for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, sound, and video via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in still and video camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging is supported via AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, and ICQ, and the phone also ships with a built-in e-mail client with support for POP3 and SMTP protocols (Cingular messaging charges apply). Plus, there's a built-in Web browser for MEdia downloads and mobile Web browsing. Cingular's MEdia service lets you receive and send e-mails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier to enter words and text on handsets, is built in to the unit--a plus for mobile e-mail and text messaging users.
The SLVR L7 seamlessly connects to iTunes software on your PC or Mac. iTunes software on the phone gives you complete control of your music.
|
Getting on the Internet is easy with the SLVR L7, as it supports Cingular's GSM-based Wireless Internet Express service. When used with a Cingular data plan and the phone's Bluetooth or USB data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs.
A number of handy software tools are bundled with the SLVR L7, including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, a calendar, and an alarm clock. Use the phone's Bluetooth capability to set up a wireless link with a Bluetooth accessory or to connect to a computer or handheld device to exchange and synchronize data. The phone also supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard, which can be used with Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools PC application to manage and synchronize contacts, calendar, and other data with your PC.
Imaging and Entertainment
With 5 MB of internal memory storage, plus a memory expansion slot, the SLVR L7 shines in the entertainment department. The phone's VGA camera features a 4x digital zoom, as well as video capture capabilities (up to 30 seconds in length). Capture stills and then send them to your friends via MMS messaging or e-mail, or to your PC via USB or Bluetooth. The phone is capable of MPEG4 video playback when you receive a video message or if you upload video to the phone via USB or Bluetooth. The SLVR L7 also supports custom graphics for wallpapers, so you can dress up the phone to suit your mood.
At its heart, the SLVR L7 is a music phone, and thanks to integration with iTunes, it makes a great digital music player. Using the included software, sync the SLVR L7 with your iTunes library on your PC or Mac and listen to up to 100 of your favorite songs while you're on the go. iTunes software on the phone lets you shuffle your music library or select songs by artist, album, or playlist. Built-in stereo speakers let you listen while you work or play, and a stereo headset jack makes it easy to jam out in private with the included earbuds.
Last but not least, support for gaming is built into the phone and games are available for download via the Cingular MEdia service.
Vital Statistics
The Motorola SLVR L7 weighs 3.5 ounces and measures 4.5 x 1.9 x .45 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 6 hours of digital talk time and up to 17 days of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS frequencies. The phone comes with a one-year limited warranty.
Customer Reviews:
Great phone and CUTE!!.......2007-07-24
I was strongly cautioned not the buy either a RAZR or SLVR, so I did research to find a phone that would best suit my needs AND be something cute and attractive (if I am keeping it for two years, this is a must!). I fell in love with the look of the SLVR but I still felt like I needed to look into it and compare with other phones. I read all of the reviews, good, bad and ugly and decided, for my needs, this was the phone for me.
So far, this has been a great choice! The phone itself is very attractive and I was able to find a case specifically made for the L7's that enhanced this even more, instead of hiding it behind some bulky material. I have no problems with the reception and can always hear clearly and be heard clearly.
The biggest disappointment I had was that I couldn't figure out how to assign individual ringtones and assumed this this was not an option of the phone rather than being the outcome of the ill-informed user that I was. Reading other reviews showed that this was a disappointment for other users as well. WE WERE WRONG! My best advice: READ THE OWNER'S MANUAL! But to sum it up, to get an individual ringtone, a number has to be saved to the phone rather than the SIM card. So this is no longer a disappointment for me.
For those of you who get this phone through Cingular/AT&T, the phone comes with a memory card (nice bonus!) and I was able to find another micro memory card with more storage and 2 micro card adaptors (to fit the micro in other memory card slots) for just over $13 on Amazon. I do not use the iTUNES feature (as of yet) but have put music on my card and played it through the "my sounds" function, which has worked great for me.
I have seen complaints about the keypad and have found them, for myself, to be unfounded. I have no problems with them. However, I do not text a lot, but when I have, the functions have been easy to use and unconfusing.
The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because of the quality of the camera. Pictures are a little blurry and dark. Since this is not my primary sourse of photos, this is not a huge disappointment for me.
For my use, this phone is fantastic, but bear in mind that I am pretty easy on my cell phones, with a little less than an average amount of use. It's got all the fun features and bells and whistles I wanted to have a little fun with my phone, but works great in it's most basic form as well!
Pretty Pink Practical Phone.......2007-07-11
I recently ordered this phone through amazon and I must say I love it!! It is everything I wanted in a phone and more. To me its the best of both worlds, the pretty pink exterior is just my style, the itunes is so easy to use, and it is very practical to use as an everyday phone. I just love it!!
I love this phone!!!.......2007-06-27
I love the SLVR phone. I have not had any major problems with it at all.
The only complaint is that I cannot assign specific speed dial numbers to certain numbers.
The itunes function will only allow 100 songs on your phone, no matter how big your card is. However, I love the itunes function on the phone because I can just play it whenever I like (it is great to use when waiting for the bus).
You need to use a San Disk micro sd card with the phone though, I tried to use a kingston micro sd card and the phone would not recognize it.
The buttons, menus, and programs are easy to use with the phone. I would recommend that if the phone is in your purse or pocket, you lock the keyboard often because the number pad is very sensitive to touch.
The phone is durable, I have dropped it several times and it still kept on working.
If you are looking for a slim phone to play music text, and surf the internet once in a while, it is a great choice among phones.
practically no hassle, and ended up saving a lot of $$$, esp. with rebate.......2007-03-20
I just wanted to let people know that they don't have to worry about porting their number when purchasing new service with Cingular through Amazon. I was a little concerned about how smoothly this would go, given the mixed reviews, but it only took a couple hours. However, I am only giving 4 stars because the pink phone is a bit brighter than is depicted in the picture. Also, does anyone know how I can set my phone so that it does not roll over to voicemail so quickly when someone calls? I have not been able to find any settings for this, either on the phone, or through the voicemail feature. All in all though, I am enjoying my new phone!
Few complaints.......2007-02-18
I bought this phone in Nov/Dec. 2006 and have enjoyed it quite a bit.
Granted, I don't use the iTunes and special features all that much, but for what I use, it's good.
It fits easily into a jacket pocket or the pocket of a purse, which is nice. However, I do have to set it to vibrate *and* ring when it's tucked away or else I won't hear it in the store or another location with background noise. If it's out on a countertop or in my hand, it's plenty loud.
The buttons/keys are rather tiny and I have to use my fingernail to press them usually. A little aggrivating sometimes, but I have had no problems with the phone itself. Most people who complain about reception are probably dealing with a faulty phone or are not giving proper (dis-)credit to their service provider. I've never had reception problems with this phone.
I also found a good scratch-resistant screen protector on amazon (by Eforcity) for under $2 that fits this screen perfectly. You can't even see it.

A Decent Phone.......2007-10-28
I bought this phone after I tried the L6, the version without the itunes, the L6 was an unlocked phone so it doesn't support AIM. This phone gets great reception and I never had a problem using it as a phone. However, although it claims to have Itunes (one of the reason I bought it), the itune function is limited and loading music on to the phone from your computer take just short of forever. Plus the month before I bought this phone (August 06)Apple decided to no longer support the L7, which means no further updates to the phone. Don't get me wrong, this phone has great features, but be careful about how many features you are using because this phone has a slight lag- especially when you are texting. Overall a great starter phone, but I can't wait till I can upgrade to a next generation phone.
Great form factor, lousy performance, mediocre software........2007-05-10
I eagerly awaited this phone, but when I got it, heard the "whah-whuuuuuh" trumpet sound in my head not too long after owning it.
Speakerphone: LOUSY; half the people I talk to cannot hear me when I'm on it (although I can hear them quite well). I usually hold it about a foot from my mouth (and had done so with other speakerphone models just fine).
Headset: GOOD; "stock" headset's cord is too short (I'm sure by design so they can upsell you), although it has a nice big button that you can use to hang up (handy so you don't have to look down, esp. while driving). It has 2 earphones, which is good for stereo sound, even when you're talking on it (it is an iTunes phone, after all). Sound quality is decent.
Software: MEDIOCRE. I would expect more from a 2007-model phone, but alas, it is the clunky java interface motorola/cingular has been selling for at least 5 years. For example, 1. does not display time of day when you're on a call. 2. when you miss a call and caller leaves a voicemail, there are two separate messages. One for "new voicemail", then after you check that by calling or cancelling, you get the "missed call" message. Duh! If there's a new voicemail, it probably means I missed a call! You have to push too many buttons in order to find out WHO called you. Lazy programming and poor user experience.
iTunes: GOOD; But, you cannot use an iTunes song as your ringtone. It may as well be two separate devices. Not well integrated. One cool feature is that you can actually listen to iTunes songs via the speakerphone-- a feature that not even iPods has. Other reviewers have much more detail on the iTunes (lack of) features, but since I don't use them that often, I'll stay quiet.
Accessories: I bought the static film cover for the screen. It works great! I also tried the clamshell clear plastic cases, which add a little to the thickness. They sucked. One broke within 3 days of owning, and it didn't really protect it much (compare to an Agent18 case for an iPod, which protects that like a kevlar body suit).
I would recommend this if you're not going to have or don't already own an iPod (I do own one, so I rarely use the iPod feature of this device.)
Good phone, could be better.......2007-05-06
The SLVR L7 has a nice sturdy feel and is light weight. iTunes sound great and is nice for those who don't want to carry multiple devices. The only things I don't like about the phone are the ear speaker volume and the alarm clock not having not a selection for weekdays/weekends; it is either on or off. The speaker phone is loud and clear, and so far, the battery life has been great (charged 3 times in about 3 weeks, with a lot of music play and a decent amount of phone calls).
Nice try .......2007-04-28
After reading through many reviews, I narrowed down my choices to two phones: this one, or Sony Ericsson W810i. I bught this one. A few hours of testing has concluded the following problems or areas in need of improvement:
* Phone book - cell phone/home phone/work phone for the same person all show up as seperate entries.
* You can't use a music file as a ringtone.--some user reviews say you could, but I have not figured it out. The free ringer tones come with the phone suck! (Anyone can give detailed instruction??)
* Music syncing requires the USB cable; it won't work over bluetooth.
* Sound quality is below average. When using the headphone, you can hear stat noise when changing track. The volume from the headphone sounds much much louder than the speakerphone or the phone, so loud that it is almost unbearable.
* User manual is badly writen.
Everything else about the phone works just as expected: key pad (about right size), iTune (nice), camera (decent), wireless sync (fine). Sony Ericsson W810i does have a better feel in the hand. But that may be just my impression.
In conclusion:
If not because I like my iTune, I would have bought the Sony W810i (at least for a better feel in my hand). In a couple of years, I think I will really want an iPhone, or whatever that can combine great design, outstanding quality, and integrating capability. This Motorola SLVR L7 has left so much of these unaccomplished. I rate it 3 out of 5, just at the threshold of me keeping it for now.
Good Phone....Need Tips? Mp3 Ringtones.? Where to Buy..?.......2007-02-24
I just got this phone yesterday. I'm 14 and this is my first phone...
I bought this phone at BestBuy...It was only $30$. (Just a safer way to buy...not online.)
You can use Mp3 songs on the Phone as Ringtones. I dont think you can use itune songs for it...I havent tryed it yet.
If you have Music ready to put as a ringtone on your computer just follow these instructions.
First...
Plug Your Phone into the Computer w/ your USB cable (make sure it is tight/secured well)
Second- go to my computer on your computer and look for some sign of your phone.
-then click it and there should be atleast one folder there. Click MOBILE and a list of others should show up
-There should be a folder Audio Put Your Music in there.
Now For the Phone...
-Get the clear screen on your phone & hit "-" and go to my stuff
-Click Sounds
-Click "-" once again
-there should be someother than Phone which you click then find your music and click "-" (once Once again) and put MOVE and put it into phone
-Go back to Phone and you should see a list and your track should be at the top and click "-" to Make as a ringtone
Sometimes if might be to big so try a shorter one
make sure you have a memory card
If all else fails call Motorola, the number should be right inside the manual. They have good service unlike others....
To get cheap accessories i would get it on ebay (not sure about amazon, am looking soon
Hope it Helped!
