Design
The a707 design takes the standard clamshell form factor to the next level with its impressive media and data capabilities while maintaining a stylish and cool exterior. A large 240 x 320 full-color display with over 262,000 colors dominates the inside of the top cover. The outside cover of the handset sports a supplementary external display that can display time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. The external screen can even be set to display a large analog clock. A TransFlash/MicroSD memory card slot is located on the right side of the phone while a 2.0-megapixel camera lens is housed above the external display. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. Lastly, charging and USB data cable ports are placed on the bottom of the phone, keeping the phone's design compact and portable.

Calling Features
The a707's internal phone book can hold up to 1000 contacts while the phone's picture ID system allows you to assign pictures to your most common callers. It also supports polyphonic ringtones, and comes stock with unique ringtones built right into the unit, while more ringtones can be downloaded from Cingular Wireless' MEdia Net service. Sync Bad Phone and AT+TService!!.......2007-12-26

BAD phone/Sevice! Renewed my Cingular/AT+T service with 2 of the Samsung SYNC A707 devices with AT+T. Been 45 days and could not be more disappointed! Very Poor quality! been through 2-3 batteries each phone and now one does not get any signal (eventhough bars showing). Spend many hours with AT+T tech - since over 30 days AT+T/Samsung not very helpful at all. I read these reviews everytime I purchase something new -please DO NOT get this phone or AT+T service!

Charge Lasts Forever!.......2007-09-13

I love this phone! The color is pretty, the sound is great, and the battery on this thing lasts forever! If I'm not using the phone much, it can wait two weeks before it gets charged; if I use the phone once a day or a couple of times a week, it lasts a week on a charge; it'll still last two or three days on a charge if you're a heavy user. I can only think of two negative things about this phone, one being the fact that the battery charger shares the same slot as the earbuds. That means you can't use your earbuds and charge your phone at the same time if you're in the car. The other con is that this phone offers limited characters when text messaging. Some of the most common symbols, such as the parenthesis or the "and" symbol aren't present, while there seem to be an abundance of the symbols one doesn't seem to need. Who uses the greater than or less than symbol when text messaging??? I would definitely get this phone again, though!

i have had this phone for a few months now, and i swear i love it more and more every day!!!. i have had other phones and this one by far is the best!! with my last phone i was so used to the bad reception, to the point where the only place i could get a signal in my home was if i was standing by the window in my bedroom literally. i always have good reception with this phone, it has only dropped a couple of calls. i can go a full week before i need to charge my phone. i think that for a phone it takes really great pictures. it has a large display, with big keys(my mom who has the same phone absolutley loves this about it) texting and e-mailing from a phone has never been easier. i will say i do wish that i could arrange the address book how i want it and get rid of all of the pre-set contacts. but all in all i love this phone, and my mom who dropped hers and busted the front display screen still thinks that this is the best phone ever

good but not great.......2007-08-24

We just upgraded our old v551's for v365's and this samsung sync, the latter based on the review in consumer reports. there are some excellent reviews already on Amazon so I will just add my pros and cons.

Pros: Cheap, you can get it for nothing on some ATT packages;
external micro-sd slot you can add 2 gig of music/podcasts to it without having to use slower bluetooth connections;
camera works well outdoors, as does music player if you just want to hear a song or better yet a talking book type presentation;
bluetooth works well and is fast with most devices (see cons below if you use Macs);
good connections but the earphone volume is low so it requires you to hold it harder to your ear in high ambient noise;
reported low SAR levels

Cons; no voice dialing without paying att another $5 A MONTH;
proprietary charger/headphone jack, you can use stereo bluetooth phones but it will eat the battery;
small battery capacity (spares are only a few bucks however);
standard ringer volume is low, especially in a protective case;
its a plastic phone - it will scratch as soon as you look at it, doesn't look like it would take a fall from a pocket or purse to a hard floor;
doesn't support iSync on the Mac, though you can read and transfer all the non-locked files, photos, music, ringtones etc you want with the bluetooth exchange program (the motos are supported for isync) - however you can copy your contacts to the phone from a mac, just not read or edit them;
battery life is not great;
expensive to use the medianet links, though if you are into it - we only use it for traffic and weather maps - its quite handy if you can squint

overall we still like the motos better as phones, but will keep this one as more a phone with aspirations - after we have had it for another few months we will update our experience

Going from cellphone-phobic to cellphone-philic.......2007-08-24

I've always been cellphone-phobic, but this phone has completely changed that. Granted, I've always bought the most basic device available, and this phone is a huge upgrade. But it not only does everything I want; it's got me using functions I never thought I'd use. In fact, I used to have the cheapo 250/month plan and last month was surprised by a 100 minute overage. Now I've got 450 with rollover and may upgrade yet again.

I'm a pretty basic user. I want to make and receive calls and get messages, and I want flexibility in the phone's settings. The speaker has to be great, and my hearing-impaired Dad has to be able to understand me. I want to be able to see the display and feel the keys. I want to be able to dial it with my thumb while holding it in my hand. And the speaker phone has to be usable when I'm in the car. I don't spend all day on the phone; even if I used it at work I'd be running maybe 2-4 hours.

Nerd that I am, I sat around with the owner's manual when I activated it. I highly advise spending some time doing this; many reviewers simply haven't spent any time going through the well-organized menus, setting preferences, and learning which key does what.

Basics: The keys are large and highly visible, and the display is fantastic; I can easily see it without my glasses or in poor light & glare. The call quality is great, and the phone's speaker and the speakerphone are very clear. Even my Dad can understand what I'm saying. The keys are big enough that clumsy me can actually text a little (a completely new experience).

Glamour factors: The phone's feel is great. The exterior is soft and slightly rubbery in a good way, so it doesn't slide around and slip out of my hand or off the edge of the desk. I've had it bumping around in my purse for a month now and it has no scratches. Sure, the display shows fingerprints, but that's what shirtsleeves are for, right? I quickly learned how to open it with one hand; then I learned that you can silence the ringer or reject calls from a toggle on the left side while the phone is closed. The toggle doubles as a volume key. And I like the soft 'clunk' noise it makes when you close it, and have left the cute bleeping keypad tones (you can change that but it amuses me). I'm almost embarassed by how much I like to handle the phone. As for accessories, I plan to get a snap-on belt clip that doesn't obscure it's pretty color, and a headset adapter so I can use my favorite headset. And maybe a data cable and memory card...

Functions: There are options on options in the menus, which can be set to show sub-menus as drop-down lists. The soft keys are easy to set, and you can set tons of shortcuts in the options menu. I've actually used the camera and downloaded one ringtone, though I haven't bought a data cable or memory card yet. The phone charges quickly, and the charge lasts me a long time. ven when I was very ill, forwarded all my other phones to this one, and talked on the phone for hours a day, it took most of the day to run it down.

Any downsides? OK, the power cord and headphone jack are one and the same, which is dumb but hasn't bugged me yet. I only use a headset for driving, but the speaker phone is good enough that I can just hold the thing in my hand. Speaking of headsets, I need to get an adapter, because it doesn't take a 3/8 inch plug, another silly thing; however, you can buy an adapter for under $5 on Amazon. Also, I'm used to having the display always showing as long as the phone is turned on, but the external display on this phone (which I have set to an old-fashioned analog clock so I can see it from a distance) can be turned on by pressing an outside button for a few seconds; however, it turns itself off after only 10 seconds.

I never would have tried this phone if it weren't free, but I'm delighted with it. I'm not about to get rid of my ipod, and I'm not going to start using my phone to checking email or surf the web; I don't want to be THAT connected. But this does the job delightfully. It's just too bad that it took me this long to get a phone that works for me.

syncing into despair .......2007-12-29

I purchased two lovely red syncs about ten months ago. After an initial honeymoon stage, the phone began to reveal some defects. It would not hold a charge, dropped calls...ect. I returned to the store several times the chargers and batteries were replaced but to no avail. Finally, the store manager told me to take advantage of the warranty. He examined the phone and observed that their was no physical or water damage. I took his advice and received two new phones. About a week later I received a bill for $420.00. According to the inspection the phones had water damage, so I was liable. I need to insert here that I have been with this company for 15 years and I have never gotten a phone wet. I sucked it up and paid the bill,however my new phones have all of the same defects. I have now purchased four phones and none of them work. I am locked into this contract for another 14 months. I AM DONE WITH THIS COMPANY. Take my advice find another server.

Very Poor Quality Phone and AT+T Service.......2007-12-26

A couple quirks but overall a good phone.......2007-11-21

I have had this phone for almost 3 months now. Pro's and con's are as follows...

Pro's...1) Love the HUGE display especially for web surfing. The display is truly exceptional.
2) Added a 2Gb micro memory card and I have basically taken an Ipod off my "to buy" list. Picked up a Bluetooth headset and I now have hours of music enjoyment.
3) The additional purchase of the SYNC download manager CD with data cable is worth every penny to complete this phones functionality and multi-media uses. I transfer entire CD's compressed to MP3 format in maybe 45 secs to 1 minute. The only draw back to file uploading is size. The phone will only accept a slightly larger than 8Mb file so most of my music is compressed to 128-196 bit sound quality. Yes this sound is indistinguishable compared to 320 bit IMO, but for those that HAVE to have 320 bit sound, this is a poor option for you.
4) Excellent reception. Have had a couple dropped calls in a 1 million+ sq/ft machine shop, but hell, who doesn't? The reception overall is excellent and sound quality in-call is fantastic.
5) Bluetooth hits almost 35 feet in the machine shop! WOW!
6) 3G+ internet connectivity is really impressively fast.

Ok fair is fair, onto the cons...

1) Irritates me to no end with "add a word" T9 function. Ex. I added "hp" for horsepower in a text to a friend...this is also the same letter combo in T9 (which I only use exclusively) for the word "is". So every time I want to type "is", "hp" ALWAYS comes up first as the primary word and I have to sift through the word combo's til I find "is" to change one of the most common words in the dictionary. I have this on a few other words as well and if I forget to look at the message when I type it, then send it, it will make for a very...umm...interesting text message. Now I will never ADD a word unless it is not even in the built in dictionary. This is also NON REVERSIBLE...at least I have not found out how to do it.
2)Battery life is adequate at best. I use my phone a fair amount and ALWAYS have to charge it at least every other day. I don't know if we as consumers are expecting too much out of a tiny battery and high drain devices, but it would be nice to get a little longer time out of 1 charge.
3)CAMERA SHUTTER LAG! This is my single biggest gripe. When you take a picture, the photo will capture like 2 SECONDS AFTER you press the button...so basically you have to press the button, then wait...kind of like you are on auto timer or something...till you hear the shutter sound. Then if you move after you pressed the button, do it all over because the pic will be blurry. If you get the picture right, it will turn out EXTREMELY well...the phone is VERY capable of taking a printable picture that I would easily (and have) put on the wall.

Overall I am far from disappointed that I bought this phone...it really does have a TON of neat features that are...for the most part...very user friendly. It is not perfect, but what device out there is tailored and made perfect for everyone? I would definitely recommend this phone to anyone.

Like AT&T, but not the phone.......2007-10-30

Purchased this phone in March of 2007, and have already replaced the unit once due to severe lag between menu prompts and continuous dropped calls. Replacement phone displays the same problems of dropping calls more than it should as well as severe lag between menu prompts. This is not so much an AT&T issue as it is a Samsung issue. Overall, phone has nice features marred by poor performance. Not a phone to recommend out of AT&T's selection.

Great Features, Bad Interface & Design Quality.......2007-10-10

I have had this phone for a few months now and I bought the media kit. One thing I want to use this phone for is mobile multimedia. I like the fact that it takes a mini-SD card, and plays mp3s. However it stops reading the SD card every week or so and i have to take it out and re-enter it. There is also no easy way to insert or remove the mini-SD card, you have to poke it with a pencil or something. Also the headphones that came with the media kit sucked and I accidentally broke them after about 2 days of using them.

The interface is horrible. I setup my own menu but you can only add certain things. I have a hard time finding what I want to use quickly, even after having the phone for months.

I bought an adapter to use my own headphones with the phone due to the proprietary connector. Now I get some sound out of the jack, but not the sound I should. Lows and high are completely cut out, I get some mids and they are warble. I bought another adapter and same problem, so I'm guessing the internals in the phone broke.

The battery life is decent, but not good. Interfacing the phone with your computer is confusing, but manageable. Displaying the time or the controls with the phone closed takes longer than it is worth. I wouldn't buy another one if I had a choice.

Do Not Purchase.......2007-12-29

OK, so here's the deal. Yeah it's fast downloading on the 3g network, and the screen has a nice display. The picture phone is cool and once you figure out the menues and how to access all of the features, it's a handy, sleak phone with a OK battery life. However, scrolling through the menus has a delay from when you push the button, to when the scrolling actually takes place. Very annoying. For instance, I want to turn the ringer volume down from 7 to zero. I push the ringer down button 7 times. After about the 5th click, I then see the ringer volume meter start to decend. Same with the phone book. Dont get me started on Text Messaging. I'll be 4 letters in before it will try and catch up on the display. Everytime I use the phone, delay, delay, delay. Then, sometimes (confirmed by several other users), the phone reception signal bars turn gray and the phone says "for emergency calls only." You have to power off and reboot for it to work. The phone itself is cheap. The LCD screen on the front cracked by a MINIMAL tap on it. Also, I have never removed the casing to access the battery and one day it just fell off and wouldn't stay on. Let me tell you I have been so careful with this phone and it has never been dropped or mishandeled. The volume is also not that loud, but the speak

Samsung Ignores Warranty - won't replace lost Battery Cover.......2007-11-08

After 5 months, the battery cover fell off and was lost. No idea where or how.

Samsung won't replace the part, despite their 1 yr warranty for "defects in materials and workmanship."

They simply do not have the part in inventory - and the battery slips out easily, without the cover.

The web shows that Samsung has a similar attitude for other products - stereo, tv, etc. They ignore their warranty, and stonewall the consumer.

I've had this phone for about five months now, and thus far:

Pros:
-Awesome display, bright, high-res
-Fast (for a phone) internet connection
-Compared to most other phones, this has a great camera
-Nice, sturdy buttons
-Personally, I get a huge kick out of the MP3 player touch buttons on the front

Cons:
-Relatively slim, but still pretty heavy and bulky
-Ring volume is fine if you're alone in your room, but ambient noise tends to drown it out pretty quickly
-BIGGEST CON and the main reason I'm getting a new phone: The battery life started out okay (maybe three days on a charge), but in the past month has completely DIED. If the phone isn't charged every single night, it won't last (I give it 36 hours, maximum, for a single charge). My dad has the exact same phone, and the same thing happened to his.

Good basic phone.......2007-09-23

Overall, I'm happy that I bought this phone. The reception is good in most places, and it uses 3G technology. (I'm not sure if that helps with voice quality, or only faster data - but this phone has it).

I've never been on the cutting edge of technology when it comes to cell phones. This doesn't have all of the bells and whistles of the Iphone or any of the "smartphones" out there. I just wanted to make phone calls. I've been pretty happy with this phone. This is my first phone with bluetooth, and I use it all the time in the car. In my state, it's illegal to hold a cell phone while driving, so it's great to have the wireless bluetooth earpiece on my ear to receive calls in the car. The camera is okay - nothing special. I don't use the mp3 player. I haven't figured out how to connect the phone to the computer to put music on my phone, and frankly I'm not willing to put in the time to figure it out.

Bottom line: If you want a cheap ($0.01 with $25 rebate when I bought it) phone just to use as a phone (+bluetooth), it's great.

The Samsung A707 SYNC Blue Phone is the right phone for all ages! What I really love about it is its awesome camera, beautiful resolution, loud sound quality, and many convenient buttons that serve as shortcuts. However, it does get scratched easily so I suggest having a case to protect your phone.

All in all, the Samsung is a phone made to please!

Does not load.......2007-09-16

I have tried to use this software on my VISTA system for Samsung SYNC SGH-A707 system and the driver does not load on my computer for the cable. I can use the real Samsung cable for VISTA along with the latest version of Samsung Sync software (software available for free from the Samsung website) to use VISTA with the phone with more capabilities then are actually listed for the phone from the Mobile Action website.

If I could rate this a ZERO I would.

HOW SOFTWARE WORKS ON THIS KIT.......2007-08-26

For all software dealing with cell phones, one needs to keep updated. This item is sold as is, and the customer must rely on www.mobileaction.com first for support and the features that WORK on their phone for the kit model number MA-730. Not all phones work with the software for everything, some do, some work for only one thing using the model kit from Mobile Action called "MA-730." Kit sold here is the MA0730 by Mobile Action, customers must go to their site and see support for the phone they have first. The MA-730 Bluetooth kit is the most univeral one around, but the cell phones themselves have limitations, not the kit. Mobile Action tells customers specifically what does and does not work for all models with this MA-730 kit.

Software could not find the appropriate driver and failed to include the correct driver as part of the package. Software would NOT LOAD after repeated attempts. DO NOT purchase.

I received my cable in two days in perfect condition. Exact item for my SYNC phone (SGH-A707). Never tried the software because that is not what I was interested in. I went to Samsung website and got some software there, because the website printed on the disk is not available. Thanks for the good, accurate and speedy service.

Software not compatible for SGH-A707.......2007-08-09

The USB cable is working as I expected but the CD that comes with it doesn't have the drivers for SGH-A707. The price is A LOT cheaper than what you would get at the AT&T website even after adding shipping charges. I'm happy with it overall.
