Design
The VX8600 features a super-sleek clamshell design with a large 176 x 220 color display and support for a whopping 262,000 colors--plenty of room for V Cast content. A generous, full-color 160 x 128 full-color supplementary screen on the outside of the cover displays incoming call information, battery life, signal strength, graphics, photos, and more. Music playback control keys are also located on the front cover. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad. The VX8600 also features a MicroSD slot for expandable memory. Bluetooth support for handsfree devices and Bluetooth stereo headset support for listening to Music on the VX8600's advanced music player are also included. Meanwhile, up/down keys are located on the side of the unit, as is the memory slot, and a 1.3-megapixel camera unit is housed on the front of the clamshell. Lastly, USB data connectivity is built right into the phone.
Calling Features
The VX8600 boasts powerful calling functions, such as speaker independent voice dialing, which makes it easy to call contacts by simply saying their names. No prior voice training is required and you can even speak individual digits to the phone for quick dialing of numbers you know by heart. And because the 8600 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total handsfree operation.
The VX8600's internal memory can hold up to 500 contacts for quick access to email addresses and phone numbers. The phone lets you easily assign pictures as well as ringtones to your most common callers. The phone's support for multimedia messaging means that text, photos, video, and audio can be sent with ease (Verizon messaging charges apply). Verizon's optional Mobile Web 2.0 package allows you to read and send emails, exchange instant messages, and view your favorite Web content on your phone. Imaging and Entertainment
The VX8600's 1.3-megapixel camera features a digital zoom, a self-timer, night-mode functions, and brightness and white balance controls. The camera also offers video capture capabilities, meanwhile, a built-in music player lets you keep your music playing in the background. You can also take advantage of the VX8600's Bluetooth wireless headset capability, allowing you to hook up a pair of Bluetooth stereo headphones.

This Phone is So Nice.......2007-08-21
One of the nicest phones I've seen anywhere. I was thinking about getting a Razor, which is a nice looking phone but there were so many unhappy reviews I stopped and looked for a phone with a better track record. The LG VX8600 had many good reviews, and after owning this phone for about a month I understand why.
The LG VX8600 has crystal clear reception and everyone I speak to says it sounds remarkably clear. The earpiece has plenty of volume, and the ringer is loud enough to make you jump, which is good if you are driving in a loud vehicle (and I usually am.) I often work outdoors and haven't had the problems seeing the screen that some other reviewers have reported. It does smudge easily but is as easily cleaned. The buttons, though attractive, are very flat and are not good for dialing by feel, but the VX8600 has a good voice dial feature, so the unless you have a perverse desire to try cold calling while driving the buttons are not an issue.
The VX8600 comes with a set of beautiful wallpapers and themes. This phone is also very good looking, and very comfortable in your hand. I got Alltel's version of this phone (the AX8600) which has a much smaller and less obvious logo and comes in other colors (I got mine in a very attractive green, I included some pictures of it in the user photos section.)
The camera is decent, the video is better, and the best feature is the built in music player, which I've found I'm using as much as my old iPod. The mono speaker is fine for ring tones, but you will need a GOOD bluetooth stereo headset -- I strongly recommend the Bluetooth Wonder Stereo Headset -- to get the most out of the mp3 player (and you will be very, very happy with this phone if you do.)
To play music you will have to get a MicroSD card. I used the SanDisk 1GB Transflash MicroSD flash Memory Card for Samsung A990, T609, T809, T629, D807, LG VX8500, KG800, VX8300, CU320, CU500, Blackberry 8100 8100c Pearl. These cards are reasonably priced, but make sure you get one with the right memory and the right connectivity setup for this phone. My setup came with a 1 gig card but I was told not to use a 2 gig card because the phone would not recognize the additional memory -- on the other hand, the same clerk initially sold me the wrong connectivity kit so take that with a grain of salt.
To connect the MicroSD card to my computer I got good results with a SanDisk SDDR-103 MobileMate SD+ 5-in-1 Mobile Reader (SD/ MiniSD/ MMC/ RS-MMC/ TransFlash, Retail Package) No additional software was needed, just connect and then drag and drop (at least that's true on a Mac, on a PC you must get a connectivity kit with a USB cable and a software driver.)
One problem with this phone was getting a good connection with a Motorola Bluetooth Headset - H700. I had to trade my headset in twice to get a good link -- the third headset works fine though, and I had no problem with the stereo headset by Satechi, so I'm pretty sure the issue was not the phone.
In short, this is an excellent phone that is clear, has a reputation for not breaking down, connects well, doesn't drop calls much, syncs well, has many very nice features, great battery endurance, all wrapped up in a gorgeous package.

I bought my LG8600 about a month ago, as my first cell phone. I took a risk and paid $180 for it, hoping it would be worth the money. It hasn't dissapointed.
I recently started listening to music on my phone, both with and without headphones. The audio quality is great, comparable to and ipod with headphones. The "My Music" menu takes a little getting used to, and you have to do a bit of micromanaging to get it to work for you. If you plan on putting music on your phone, you'll need to buy a microSD card. I bought a 1GB for about $20, and its been enough so far.
(Random Note: I use Nextlink SPIDER headphones. Ive had some problems with battery life, and wouldn't wholeheartedly reccomend them.)
Pros-
-Pretty Fast (faster than friend's RAZR)
-Looks pretty!
-Audio quality is awesome w/ headphones
-Nice big screen
-Can read txt messages on the front screen
Cons-
-Smudges easily, but cleans easy too
-Seems really loud when making calls, I turn the volume down alot
-Touch buttons on the front get accidentally pressed easily
All in all, the pros outweigh the cons. Buy this phone.

I absolutely love this phone. It's compact, light-weight and the quality of the camera is really good. I took a picture with my cell and had it printed out and framed. It is the best phone I have ever had.

I did a fair amount of research on this phone before purchasing it outright. I had an existing Motorola phone, but those tiny things with tiny numbers were starting to hurt my eyes. I really liked the design and size of the RAZR, but we all are aware of the issues with those. So, I went and bought this phone with high expectaions. They have been met. Three things to address:
1. Ebay has incredible cases, covers, etc... that will protect the phone without worrying about those smudges. Yes, those irritate me, and having a naked phone for others to see is not an issue; at least not for me. I have about 4 nice camo snap-on covers, and one black rubberized, that really add personality to the phone. Once again, the choice of options regarding covers for this phone is seemingly endless. Hope this helps those that worry about such matters.
2. My only gripe is that I cannot block calls! The Motorola phones had this great option of only allowing contacts, or even blocking all calls. I am not one of those people who needs to be in constant contact with all people all the time. This was an awesome feature to have. But alas, the LG does not have it and I hope the designers will think of a way to incorporate this into future phones.
3. I have never used speakerphone so this was not a concern for me! I have 4 Bluetooth Headsets (3 Plantronics and one Motorola), and all work flawlessly with this phone. I am hoping PA will go the way of making it an offense for people to use cell phones while driving! With modern technology, handsfree is certainly safer, albeit smarter!
In sum, a great phone that can be manicured to cover those smudges!
LG VX8600.......2007-07-10
I love all the options, the graphics and the sound quality of this phone, but it does have a few irritating downfalls. When the phone is about to go dead, it beeps once and I then have close to 20 seconds to plug it in before it dies. If I am driving while it begins to die, it is impossible to safely plug the phone in because the adapter is extremely small and only fits in one direction, unlike my last LG phone.
