Motorola V330 Phone (T-Mobile)

Amazon.com Product Description

The V300 is a tough act to follow, but Motorola has a winner on their hands with their V300 successor, the V330. With welcome additions like Bluetooth, quad-band GSM and high-speed EDGE data capability, and a VGA camera with video capture, the V330 packs a powerful new punch.

Take a closer look at the V330's functions. You can also see it in action.
Design
The V330 features a sleek clamshell design with a large, high-resolution 176 x 220 pixel, 65,000 color screen. The outside cover of the handset sports a supplementary 96 x 32 monochrome display that can display time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. Up and down buttons for volume control are placed on the left side. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. A USB-capable data port is housed on the unit's top edge, and there's a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets.

Calling Features
The V330 supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3 ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. You can also assign pictures and ringers to your most common callers. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone and more ringtones can be downloaded from T-Mobile's t-zones service. There's even an included application, MotoMixer, that enables you to mix your own ringtones.

Speed dialing, which allows you to call pre-programmed numbers with one button is built in, as is a vibrating alert. A speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Meanwhile, voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. The V330's phone book can hold up to 1000 contacts; if you have that many friends and colleagues, more power to ya'! Lastly, the phone's Bluetooth connectivity means that your favorite Bluetooth headset is fully compatible.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
The V330 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging and Internet connectivity. The phone features support for AOL Instant Messenger (T-Mobile messaging charges apply), and there's also a built-in web browser for t-zones downloads and mobile web browsing. T-Mobile's t-zones service lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more.

The V330 comes with a built-in email client (with support for POP3, SMTP and IMAP4 email standards), and traditional text messaging, as well as video, picture and sound messaging are also supported. iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the V330 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, a calendar and an alarm clock. You can also use the phone's Bluetooth capability to set up a wireless link with a Bluetooth accessory or connect to a computer or hand-held device to exchange and synchronize data. The phone supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard, which can be used with Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools PC application to manage and synchronize contacts, calendar and other data with your PC.

Imaging and Entertainment
With 5 MB of internal memory storage, the V330 shines in the entertainment department. The phone's VGA (640 x 480) camera features a 4x digital zoom, image quality options, and an auto-timer so you can be in your pictures, too. Capture stills and then send them to your friends via MMS messaging or email, or to your PC via USB or Bluetooth. The V330 adds video capability, too, meaning you can capture short video clips and, just like photos, share them how you see fit. The phone also supports custom graphics for wallpapers so you can dress up the phone to suit your fancy.

If you're into mobile gaming, the V330 has you covered. The phone ships with a full version of Pinball, as well as trial versions of Bejeweled and NFL 2005.

Vital Statistics
The Motorola V330 weighs 4.3 ounces and measures 3.5 x 1.9 x 1 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 425 minutes of digital talk time, and up to 235 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

1 out of 5 stars Be cautious with amazon.com rebate!.......2006-11-07

I bought this phone in June 2006 with a 150$ rebate, but I still did not receive the rebate by Nov 7, 2006, called them tons of times, The reply is "Please wait another 6-8 weeks to get the rebate", so be cautious about the rebate when oreder a 1 cent cell phone.

1 out of 5 stars IF ANYONE CAN HELP?.......2006-07-26

I bought two of these phones for my wife and myself. She was the smarter of the two of us and went back to her old Nokia phone after a few weeks. I had to prove I didn't make a mistake so I kept using it, much to my frustration.

It constantly needs to be rebooted to access the network, especially after being plugged in to the car charger. If it's plugged in, no one can reach me as it goes immediately to voicemail, and will not notify until after rebooting.

I wish I had followed my wife's lead and given up on this POS earlier.

1 out of 5 stars avoid this phone.......2006-07-15

Have never before had such a poor experience with a single piece of electronic equipment. Returned the first one after 6 months as screen went dead. The replacement phone from T-mobile the screen failed again after two months, and the 2nd replacement refused to charge after about a month. I threw in the towel and accepted a replacement of a different model phone.
I'm going back to Nokia with whom I've had far better experience in the last 10 years. No more Motorola for me.

2 out of 5 stars Not that bad of a phone.......2006-06-30

I have used tons of motorola phones over the years from the v120 to the v330. The v330 does have a couple problems with it well at least for me it did. After a couple months I had problems using the chargers. I switched out 4 chargers, and each one would work good for a couple weeks, then you would have to fiddle with them to charge the phone.

One thing they didn't mention the review though, is the ability to listen to the radio on the phone. Thing is you need to buy a special headset, I haven't got the headset myself t-mobile wanted $50 for it. But my overall review of the phone is if you have the chance pass on this one. There's alot more models out, and ones that have less bugs then this phone has.

3 out of 5 stars Subpar.......2006-06-26

I've had phones with three companies now, and the two phones that I've owned from Motorola (V300 & V330) have been pretty poor experiences. With the upgraded technology, I figured any bugs from the 300 would have faded away, but instead, I've found those bugs plus a couple of others.

Someone mentioned charging problems. This is definitely the case. I have to sit there and fiddle with the phone for five minutes just to get it to charge. I'll get "Unable to Charge" over and over and finally I'll hit that sweet spot. It is at that point when I must set the phone down very softly so as not to disrupt the fragile nature of the phone.

The other problem I've had has been the bars disappearing. I'll be walking to my car and all of the sudden they'll just evaporate. I won't have a clue what happened. I'm not in a dead zone because I've talked to someone in the exact same spot before.

I haven't been extremely happy with the phone.

Motorola V360 Phone (T-Mobile)

Amazon.com Product Description

The wildly popular V330 is a tough act to follow, but the latest kid on the block, the V360, is a worthy successor, packed with features that make it the perfect complement to T-Mobile service. The V360 is smaller and lighter than the V330, plus it features a memory card slot for storing and playing music via an included music player application. You'll also get an internal antenna on this model, as well as a larger external screen-- two nice touches. Like the V330, this model also has Bluetooth, tri-band GSM compatibility, high-speed EDGE data, and a VGA camera with video capture.

Take a closer look at the V360's functions. You can also see it in action.
Design
The V360 features a sleek clamshell design with a large, high-resolution 176 x 220 pixel, 262,000-color screen. Up and down buttons for volume control are placed on the left side. Most of the phone's features and onscreen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. A USB-capable data port is housed on the unit's right side, and there's a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets (as well as a stereo headset for music listening). A microSD/TransFlash memory card slot is provided for data and music storage.

You can also assign pictures and ringers to your most common callers. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone, and more ringtones can be downloaded from T-Mobile's t-zones service. The big news with the V360, though, is the built-in MP3 music player, which can queue up your favorite tracks from a memory card. Jam out to your tunes while you're on the go. And if you're into mobile gaming, the V360 has you covered. The phone ships with several games, and more are available via the t-zones service.

3 out of 5 stars Solid for about a year.......2007-09-14

Both my ballfriend and I have this phone, and it worked quite well (good reception, volume levels, camera) for the first year. But after 1 & 1.5 years, our phones both began to have the following problems:

- No longer rings out loud when receiving a call
- Can no longer enter phone book to view specific numbers
- Shortcut keys used to dial phone numbers no longer work

So I guess I would recommend this phone if you only need a phone for about a year or if you change phones often.

4 out of 5 stars One year with V360.......2007-02-26

Dear all

I have been using this piece for the last one year and its quite a decent one.It has got all the basic stuff so wonderfully packed.
An ample speaker phone and wonderful cam can come handy at times.
MP3 player is so gud...but had to purchase an addition mem card.
I recently had a problem with handset regarding the voice and this is immediately replaced by T mobile..which makes it trust at ruining times..
Thanks for tmobile and amazon...

Hope this helps

3 out of 5 stars Very impressed, very customizable, feature packed.......2006-12-29

I have owned this phone for 4 days now, I have run it through its paces, I am moving from a Nokia 6800 which has the qwrty keypad. I was unsure how I would like a motorola text feature, but it is actually not bad to use, the pretictive text helps speed you through, also the canned messages that you can insert are easy to access. What I notice about the menu structure, is everything pertaining to your options in a given feature is easy to access. The phone reception seems good. I was a little disappointed in the bluetooth sync with apple isync, doesnt carry over address information at this time, or calendar from what I can see. But the calendar is very easy to add appointments, straight forward to set up alarms, will alarm you even if phone is off. You can add pictures and mp3 via bluetooth and make them available for ring tones or alert sounds, very customizable in this aspect, you can set up individual callers with there own ring tone. One thing it appears is a down fall, is the external memory card you can use for videos, mp3, and pictures, but these cannot be used as your ringtones, etc. so you are limited to internal memory for the fun features of the phone. So I dont think I really did need the 512 MB card I bought for it since Im not using the camera for more then setting up a few photos for the photo ID. The manual I think is a bit complicated. I would found it easier to play with the phone and learned it quickly over trying to learn how to set up and customize a Sony T610, poor phone that sony made. I will probably stay with Motorola in the future if they keep this interface and only improve on syncing.. etc..

5 out of 5 stars Excellent phone.......2006-12-21

If you want a cell phone that is well made, looks good, feels good to use and is a really good phone as opposed to a phone and a bunch of other things the V360 is an excellent choice. It has enough features to keep things interesting but is easy to use and above all is a really good phone that does not sacrifice call quality or battery life to a bunch of useless features that I don't want. it also looks and feels good and is thus a pleasure to use.

1 out of 5 stars Very disappointing.......2006-12-20

Prior to buying this phone I had heard a lot of people say that Motorola's hardware was very good, but that their software left a lot to be desired. Nonetheless I decided to try this phone out when it came time to start a new cell plan. I had made the decision to switch to T-mobile and this looked like one of the best phone options. Right off the bat I found out that the people who criticized Moto's software were right on the money. There are a host of poorly designed software aspects of this phone, not the least of which is the -- frankly -- idiotic way the phone book is designed. Eventually I made peace with all of the things I disliked about the V360 since at least it seemed to work well enough as a phone.

As time went by I started noticing that I was missing a lot of calls. The phone would be in my bag or in my pocket or sitting on my desk when suddenly it would ring with the voicemail notification from a message that I had received anywhere from minutes to hours before. During the course of the last few months (the phone is less than a year old) I've also found that it has begun crashing. A lot. Opening or closing it will result in a "white screen of death." Putting it on the charger will cause it to switch back and forth between the messages that it is charging, that it is unable to charge and that it's SIM card cannot be found, after a few minutes of which it will simply shut itself off. With a full battery charge it will continually shut itself off.

At this point I am forced to conclude that this phone is an absolute piece of junk. I am also forced to conclude that it isn't the only model which is. None of my coworkers has ever had a good experience with a Motorola phone. My wife's Motorola has shown its own host of problems. People working for T-mobile at several stores I have visited have confided that they never, ever recommend Motorola phones to anyone. In fact I've had T-mobile employees urge me to not buy any phones from them, but rather to shop for an unlocked Nokia online. So that's what I'm going to do.

Until I can buy a new phone all I can do is recharge this phone every night, restart it five or six times a day, and keep apologizing to my friends, family and employers for always missing their calls.
