You can buy bundles of minutes (which must be used within a set time limit of 90 to 365 days) from the Tracfone web site on your home PC or directly from your phone's web browser. Phone Features
The phone features a sleek clamshell design with a 98 x 67-pixel color display with 4096 colors. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. There's also a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets. The V170 uses the SIM card to store up to 250 contacts for quick and easy management of phone numbers and other contact information. Bought a defective phone and they won't replace it.......2007-12-27

I ordered a refurbished V170 from TracFone, but it was defective. The microphone did not work so no one could hear me. I called TracFone and they dialed my number, the phone rang and they said it was working and could not replace it. So I called them back, talked to another operator and they finally said they would replace it.

They sent another refurbished V170 and it too was defective. The battery discharges within a day even if the phone is turned off. I traded batteries with the first V170 and the battery still discharged in the second phone so I knew the phone and not the battery was the culprit. I called TracFone and they said that because I could make and receive calls, they would not replace the phone.

Motorola's website indicates that their warrantee expired over 6 months ago on both phones.

This raises two issues. First TracFone is sending out phones that were returned by other users without fixing the problem that caused these phones to be returned, and second their customer service scripts are denying replacement phones when these problems reoccur. If you want a TracFone, I would recommend not buying a refurbished model and buying from a store that will take it back if you claim its defective. Don't buy a refurbished phone from TracFone.

TRACFONE AUTOPAY OPTION.......2007-09-21

Just bought a V170 from TRACFONE to replace my Nokia 5100 that is now at the bottom of the ocean. Obviously I cannot rate this phone yet but I paid 19.99 for both the phone and 120 minutes. I only use a cell phone for emergencies so I think it will be fine.

FYI, TRACFONE has an AUTOPAY option for 7.99 per month so you only buy minutes when you need them. The monthly payment keeps the service active indefinitely. Hope this info is helpful.

Terrible Service!!.......2007-09-06

Before you buy a Tracfone I challenge you to call their customer service department for a "test drive". I literally spent hours on hold--I am not exaggerating. The only reason I waited was because they had double charged my credit card & would not credit my account unless I stayed on the line.

Cheap junk phone - less than basic.......2007-09-04

Tracfone sent me one of these to replace my motorola v60, which they up and decided was outmoded. This phone looked pretty good in the pics, but it is really cheap and terrible.

There is no exterior LCD screen, so you have to open the phone to look at the caller ID. There are no external buttons to control the earpiece volume or the ringer volume. You have to go into the awkward menu to do anything.

Oh and the ringtones are completely irritating. They all sound like a children's toy and not a ringing phone. Between that and its cheap plastic, featurless design, I wouldn't be suprised if it said "PLAYSKOOL" on the inside.

Let me just say that I am not into a phone with bells and whistles. I LIKE basic phones. But this one is a joke.

Even for free, this phone is terrible. I wouldn't pay $50 for it for sure.

Tracfone has the worst customer service I have ever experienced, too.

I can't wait until I am no longer a customer of theirs.

Stupid Tracfone.......2007-09-02

I bought this phone and was working perfectly until one day when the SIM card stopped working. I spent over an hour and a half talking to cust service people and the told me that the SIM card malfunctioned and They sent me a new SIM card. The SIM card they sent me didn't work So after another Hour to 2 hours on the phone they told me that they needed to send me a new phone. I got the phone they sent me, and then 2 days later, They de activated the phone for some strange reason. I called Tracfone once again and they told me that they're computer told them that I had stole the phone, THAT THEY SENT ME. OH MY GOSH. and now thay say that because of that reason they can't activate my phone again. I have around 50$ worth of minutes on that phone and i bought the phone for 20$ So that is 70 bucks that they are STEALING from me. Thinking about sueing and am taking my buisness elseware.
