Phone Features
Designed to be even sharper than before, the RAZR
2 V9m shaves two millimeters from the original MOTORAZR. Its one-piece housing has no parting lines (meaning fewer chances of break points) and the cast aluminum hinge underwent more than 100,000 lab tests to ensure durability. Even the exterior camera lens is stronger, as it is made with chemically hardened glass. Despite its slimmer profile, the RAZR
2 V9m offers enhanced dual screens that make the phone seem larger. The 2.2-inch internal screen offers twice the resolution of the original MOTORAZR while the 2-inch external screen is great for checking caller photo ID, easily reading incoming text messages, and controlling music playback through onscreen controls. Both screens provide 320 x 240-pixel resolutions with support for up to 65K colors. Other Motorola-engineered enhancements include:
- Upgraded Interface: With the redesigned, more intelligent interface, you'll be able to search for contacts faster and avoid duplicate entries for the same person while allowing contacts to have multiple numbers. The customizable main menu means you're never more than 2 to 3 clicks away from your favorite applications. And text messaging is easier, with the V9m recognizing what type of message you are sending.
- Talk to Me: Originally designed to address the needs of those with vision impairment, the RAZR
2 V9m is able to read the phone's interactive menus, contacts, messages and more aloud--adding convenience to your on-the-go lifestyle. SMS messages on the phone can be read and replied to with pre-programmed text messages without ever having to open up the flip.
- Haptics: Motorola has incorporated breakthrough haptics technology--an interface that creates tactile feedback--that provides vibrating feedback in response to your finger taps. When combined with the virtual music keys, the haptics technology helps you to effortlessly control music playback.
The 2-megapixel camera includes a 4x digital zoom and it can automatically snap up to eight new pictures--letting you choose the best image from a complete series of pictures. You can even print photos wirelessly to a Bluetooth-compatible printer with just a few menu selections. It provides five resolution choices (from 160 x 120 to 1600 x 1200 pixels) and also features a self-timer and controls for brightness and white balance. The RAZR
2 V9m is also an impressive video camcorder, providing up to QVGA resolution (320 x 240 pixels). You can record video for as long as you have available space on your MicroSD memory card, or choose a 10-second cap for videos sent via MMS. It supports H.263, H.264, and MPEG4 video formats.
Control music playback with the virtual digital audio player buttons on the V9m's external screen, which includes tactile feedback. |
With up to 2 GB of storage (via optional MicroSD memory card), the RAZR
2 V9m can store up to 1000 of your favorite songs. It offers compatibility with Microsoft Windows Media Player 11, enabling easy synchronization and transfer between phone and PC. You'll be able to modify music playback with the flip closed thanks to the virtual contextual music controls that appear on the external screen. And you can keep playing music even while surfing the web, sending text messages, or even using the camera.
This phone provides Bluetooth version 1.2 wireless connectivity, and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server.
Other features include:

- Up to 1000 contact entries, each with up to six numbers and two email addresses

Customer Reviews:
Great phone with one problem.......2007-12-27
Just got a RAZR2 to replace my original RAZR, which held up well until it all of a sudden got the Motorola "blue screen of death" one morning. The RAZR2 is a beautiful hunk, with a fantastic screen and outstanding call and voice quality. I'm disappointed though that I can't change the ring tone (on/off/vibe) with the cover closed - or at least I haven't figured this out yet.
One problem though -- the flip-up lid is loose on the left side. I went back to Verizon, who were very helpful, and they pulled all 5 RAZR2's they had in stock and we looked at each one and they were all loose, some worse than others. I ended up keeping mine. This must be a problem either with the phone or with a manufacturing batch. When the lid is opened about 45 degrees, it is loose and can be easily twisted back and forth. It feels like a gasket or something is missing from the one side.
Too bad, because the hinge on the '2 is huge, so I'm not sure why this problem. Otherwise, the phone is a work of art. By the way, it took some finagling to get the 2MB mini-SD card to be accepted by the phone after I downloaded some music to the card. I had to turn off the phone and plug the card in once or twice before the phone recognized the card and cataloged the music. I wish the card could be plugged in the side rather than under the battery...
Plan on Buying High Capacity Battery.......2007-12-16
The is an excellent phone. However the big beautiful LCD display uses a lot of power and is ill-suited to the 600mah stock battery. Plan on Buying 920mah High Capacity Battery MX50 for MSRP of $50.
Can't believe the above reviews have not mentioned this most glaring deficiency.
Verizon sold us the Motorola 500 Bluetooth headset which had inferior voice quality. The Jawbone at double the price was just the ticket: polished and clear voice quality.
Above average, quality phone with some minor flaws........2007-12-07
I hadn't heard very many good reviews about the first RAZR, so I was a little worried when ordering this new version. My contract with Sprint was up and Amazon was offering this phone for free after rebate. I was looking for phones with at least a 2.0 megapixel camera and came across this one. I've had this phone for about 2.5 months now so I think it's time for a review.
Pros
- It's a beautiful, luxurious, sleek phone. The screen on the front is amazingly huge, just as large as the inside screen. The display on both screens is sharp and colorful.
- The call quality is very crisp. It has been very clear thus far, no weird echoing, static, or heavy background noise when the person on the other line is in a loud environment. I never have the volume turned up all the way because it gets way too loud!
- The menu is simple. I did not find this to be a con, as I know exactly where I need to go and didn't have to go through 8 screens to get to it.
- The camera, with its 2.0 megapixel quality, can actually double as a "real" camera most of the time. I forgot my digital camera once and happily substituted with this one. It even has white balance settings in addition to brightness adjustments, and also color effects such as black and white, antique (sepia), and negative. I got a separate 2gb microSD card and can store so many photos on there. You can load the pictures on the Verizon website or you could use the Bluetooth feature to transmit your photos on your computer, or you could use a card reader to download from your microSD card.
- The music quality is excellent. You can transmit songs through Bluetooth, however, I haven't been able to figure out how to access songs from your MicroSD card (if you are even able to do so). You cannot make your .mp3 files your ringtones though, or at least I haven't been able to figure out how again.
- I use about 200-300 texts each month. I originally ordered the EnV because of the qwerty keyboard, but it's a really chunky phone and I found it to be a hassle opening up the cover each time. Also, I found that I actually preferred NOT to text with both hands because I'm usually doing something else with my other hand while texting (holding something, driving, etc.) Though this RAZR2 phone doesn't have a qwerty keyboard, it still has some functions that facilitate texting such as storing words into its memory based on what you typed last.
Cons
- It is most definitely a fingerprint magnet because it's so shiny. This doesn't bother me, but if it does for you then I would reconsider.
- The speakerphone quality is pretty good, however, I could not use it while driving for some reason because the sound of my engine actually overpowered the caller.. I guess my car does have a louder engine, it's from 1998, but I was still pretty disappointed.
- I think the touchscreen is mainly for show and I don't really see the point in it because it's almost faster to just flip open the phone and use the buttons inside or on the side. The touch screen buttons are also not very sensitive so you have to hold your finger there for a few seconds before it initiates the function. You can only do three things with the touch screen: camera, music, and voice commands.
- The ringtone selection that comes with the phone is... limited, to say the least. Also, the vibrating ringer is not very strong.. I've missed a couple of calls with the phone being in my coat pocket on vibrate.
- I have that feeling when you get a new luxury car and you don't want to damage it at all, so you're afraid to drive it. I am so afraid I am going to drop this phone or damage the extra large front screen. It's like it's made of glass. If you constantly drop your phone, this is probably not the one for you.
- I've found it's difficult to flip open with one hand.
To sum it up, this is an above average, quality phone. It's not perfect, but overall I am pretty satisfied. I think I have been more pleased in the past with Sanyo phones from Sprint, but I don't regret making the move to Verizon for this phone.
The best phone I've ever had!.......2007-10-19
I've had this phone for 2 days and so far it is the BEST phone I've ever had

Phone Features
The Z6tv retains the same slider design as its Z3/Z6 predecessors--a sleek profile and a unique, spring assisted opening design. A large 2-inch color display with a 240 x 320-pixel resolution and 65K colors dominates the top of the slider. The 2-megapixel camera lens is discreetly housed on the upper backside of the phone, safely tucked away until ready for use. The RIZR Z6tv allows you to control your music player with the slider opened or closed. Skip to tracks or fast forward and rewind with one touch of the 4-way external navigation key, while the Music Keypad Lock Key prevents accidental button presses. Create a playlist for whatever mood you are in, and sort content by artists, albums, songs, genres using quick search functionality. The digital audio player supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, and WMA formats.

You can shoot video as long as your memory card has available space, and videos shot for MMS messaging are capped at 6 seconds.
A messaging and wireless Internet powerhouse, support is built in for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, sound and video via messages. Utterly ridiculous file transfer options.......2007-12-24
I have spent HOURS trying to transfer song files from my PC to my phone. The instructions for doing so that are included in the manual do not work (after upgrading Media Player to version 11). I finally broke down and got the Motorola Phone Tools software, only to find that the version I got does not include the MultiMedia Studio. I STILL can't transfer files from my PC to my phone using a USB cable.
It seems pretty clear to me either Verizon or Motorola are trying to wear down the patience of anyone not as stubborn as I am so they will just pay the $5/per or monthly subscriptions to buy content. I don't use Bluetooth, I don't particularly want to pay extra for Bluetooth equipment, but that seems my only option at this point in time.
So, if you want to make your own ringtones, add songs from your own CDs, or avoid paying extra fees to Vcast, this is NOT the phone for you unless you have bluetooth for your pc.
Great phone with impressive call quality and features. .......2007-11-16
This is the first time I've reviewed a phone but I think this is the best phone available on Verizon right now. I was using the Razr V3M and while it worked great as a phone I was getting tired with it's lack of features and it's horrible UI. I decided that I was going to go with the Razr2 V9m but had to return it. It was just too big and had a funky hinge. Since I was relatively happy with my Razr and not all that happy with my wifes VX8300's call quality I decided to stay with Moto and get the Z6TV.
What a great phone. It has a camera that takes pretty descent pictures and is a definite improvement over the Razr's camera. The music player also was improved with deeper more rich sounds and deeper base than the Razr or VX8300. I am also impressed with the battery life. I can get about 5 1/2 hours of talk time on a single charge and about 4-5 days of moderate use before it's down to 1 bar of battery. The call quality is stellar with great in-ear feedback so I don't yell into the phone and crystal clear voice sounds. I actually prefer it over a land line.
Since I was a long time flip phone user, I was a little leary about getting the phone because I have large hands. But, everything is laid out well on the keyboard and I've had absolutely no trouble using the keypad to dial, surf the mobile web, or text. The TV feature is kinda pointless for me because I don't have coverage where I live but the phone has other features I'm happy with so no big deal.
If you are looking for a new phone with great features and even more impressive call quality you can't go wrong with the Motorola Z6TV.
My shopping experience for a new mobile 10/24/07.......2007-10-28
I traded up from a Motorola Razr which I liked for two years using an extended battery and in a fitted case. I liked the Razr because it had excellent call quality, reception, battery life, nice size and fairly well made. So when the time came to trade up, I first went with the Moto RAZR2 V9m a few weeks ago. Being a flip phone, I expected to like it. The call quality was excellent, reception was so-so, build quality was good but the battery wouldn't last for me. I bought an extended battery and even with that I wasn't happy. The other major problem I personally had with it was it was so BIG. The casing scratches SO easily it needs to be in a case. And when you put it in a case, it becomes HUGE. To big for me anyway. So... true size, battery life and so-so reception caused me to return it.
That brought me back to the Verizon store. I made test calls to my home voice mail from about 8 phone models I was interested in. A cell phone needs to have good call quality above all. And I also like phones that cancel out ambient noise so people don't know if you're in a restaurant, a car or at your office. I also do a lot of texting and check email a lot.
Impressions while shopping for my new phone on 10/24/07 were:
- The Samsung phones seem a bit muted but acceptable. Nice features. u740 is nice but I prefer one handed texting as I multitask. The u620 is great in the text messaging department as you can speak your message and it converts it into text! And it's small. Did NOT like the Gleam in sound quality.
- The LG VX8700 is an excellent phone! Excellent call quality, maybe the best. They make an extended battery for it too. Also, it has a better interface so it is more fun to use.
- The LG 9400 just had unacceptable call quality. enV is cool but not happy with call quality. Fun to use phone...will be replaced by newer model next month. Not small.
- The Juke is cool if you like a small phone with nice music features. Good call quality.
- The Chocolate sliders just missed the sound quality mark for me.
- I felt that the KRZRs were a bit `last year'. Nice size, good sound.
So, I tried a MotoRIZR Z6tv.
I liked lots of things about it. Decent call quality, small, well made, all the features of the current line up of Verizon phones like Navigator, Chaperone, Bluetooth, etc. Strong signal, excellent speakerphone when you need it, good battery life, uses all my old car and home chargers, nice key pad, easy to use, fits in the hand well. BTW, this phone will also give you Mobile TV, if available in your area, and it'll cost you $$.
Dislikes?: Well I have only had this for 4 days. The screen could be bigger but that would take more battery so I'm happy there. The call quality is not as good as the LG8700 or the MotoRazr2 V9m but it is good!
Bottom line:
The phone is easy to use, feature packed, has all the features I need, nice battery life, camera and video clips are acceptable, good address book, etc. It just plain works well. Seems to be a keeper!

I've had this phone for just over a year now, and it's been great! I'm waiting for UPS to deliver my next phone, RIZR Z3...
RAZR v3m has served me well, and has even proven to be fairly sturdy even after a couple of drops in a parking lot, which I thought for sure was going to kill the phone after hearing about how fragile it is. Good thing I had insurance, but I haven't needed it. It has kept me from having to call Verizon support, which I was doing fairly regularly with my old phone Moto E815. I give RAZR v3m big kudos for that!
As a phone, it's been superb! Good to decent coverage, good sound, no drops, no resets, etc. Best cell phone I ever had!
Text messaging is as good as it can get with cell phone number pads. I also own an iPAQ, even had one with a tiny keyboard, and they are not any better so I chuckle all these cell phones with tiny little keyboards. Pair a Bluetooth keyboard with my iPAQ, now you're talkin!
As an mp3 player, it will work in a pinch. All you iPod/iPhone nozis (replace o with an a, you know who you are!), please stick to your apple products and just leave the rest of us alone. I've own an iPod just long enough to know how much I hate iTunes, and now I own a Creative Zen which I like a lot, and no, RAZR v3m isn't as good as the Zen as an MP3 player, but so what? If I'm expecting to listen to music for a while, I grab my Zen and use my RAZR as a backup.
As a camera, again, it will work in a pinch.
I don't browse the web with this phone. I'm waiting for that day when someone comes out with a usable/affordable PocketPC based tablet ala Star Trek. Don't even talk to me about UMPC's yet... We'll see how well my iPAQ does with RIZR as Bluetooth modem.
My rating is 4 only due to
1) copying files to and from the the MicroSD is cumbersome
2) Motorola Phone Tools
3) RAZR uses some proprietary mini usb voltage so I can't charge the phone using one my many other mini usb chargers
4) Verizon crippled some of the Bluetooth feature of this phone - Not the RAZR's fault.
But if these don't bother you, then consider this as a 5 rating.
a great phone that has been crippled by Verizon.......2007-12-06
The V3m is a great phone that Verizon has crippled. The camera can take 1 megapixel images that get locked into your phone unless you subscribe to the optional text and image plan. As others have noted, if you wish to download images directly from the micro sd card, you have to remove the battery to take out the card. You can't download images from the phone with a usb cable.
After many hours of trying, I was able to download music using a Windows XP machine with Media Player 10, which I never use for music. I prefer iTunes, but it will not work with this phone. The Verizon interface makes it awkward to use the music features and you will need USB headphones for additional money (again).
While my older Motorola phone was able to use Verizon's national access to connect my computer to the internet (14.4k with no additional charge except minutes used, slow but useful), the V3m has disabled this feature and requires you to subscribe to a data plan for... more money (again).
In theory, voice dialing will allow you to use a voice command to call any number in the directory. It hasn't been perfected. If you say, "call Mary", the phone is just as likely to call Harry.
Although Verizon boasts about their network, this phone has been unable to connect in transportation hubs like New York's Grand Central Terminal and Phoenix's Sky Harbor Airport. Battery life is weak and the ring tones are lame but you can always get new ones from Verizon for... more money (again).
It is clear that Verizon has engineered this phone to squeeze every extra dollar out of you that they can. You have an option. You can just say no to the V3m and get an iPhone.
Wow, Finally a phone that lives up to the hype.......2007-11-27
I have had this phone for a little over a year and have to say I think it's still the best phone currently offered by Verizon. It's rugged enough to deal with life's daily hazards and also light enough to carry in your pocket.
The reception and voice clarity are second to none with voices coming in crystal clear just about everywhere. If you have the Razr with Verizon do what I did and go to the store to get it flashed to update it's UI. It operates much better with a better sounding music player and the whole phone operates much quicker. It also allows more customization like changing screen brightness and the wallpaper on the outside screen.
I don't know what people are saying about poor battery life because I can get about three hours fifty minutes talk time on a single charge. With normal use I get about two to three days use before a recharge is needed.
Sure, the Razr has been out for a while but it's still one of the best phones out there. I don't hesitate to recommend the Razr V3M and with the new update it makes the phone all that much better.
Poor speaker volume.......2007-11-21
I received this phone from Verizon 1 week ago. On every call i make, the volume fluctuates randomly -- often so low that I cannot hear th person I am talking to. I searched the web and found may people complaining of the same problem. So, i called motorola and spoke to Romina (ID-351753) who walked me through the standard script, "so you know how to adjust the volume..." I assured her that this was not my first rodeo. She said she was not aware of the problem (sic). Verizon's support was also unaware and had no solution -- except to return the phone. Motorola and Verizon's websites were also no help.
You'll be sorry if you buy this phone.......2007-11-19
Unless you are a teenager with someone paying your bills, or looking to join a class-action lawsuit, this deal will be a nightmare. I bought 4 of these phones for family members and they are all going back.
The RAZR is a crippled phone, now lacking key features that were built into it. Verizon claims it is BlueTooth capable, but that is misleading. It won't link to our computers or our Highlander. It was quite a frustration to discover that Verizon purposefully prevents that.
Connecting it directly to a laptop, the USB cable is reduced to a battery charger. You are prohibited from transferring files either way. I take a lot of pictures. They recommended a 2GB storage card and installed it for me. Imagine my dismay when I discovered that it is impossible to transfer my image files to the computer by cable or BlueTooth. In order to get my images, I would have to pay Verizon 25 cents per image or $500 for a full card of images. No kidding.
And if you want a non-idiotic ring tone, or anything else, you pay and pay and pay extra charges to Verizon. Go ahead and google "razr bluetooth" if you want to fully appreciate the horror Verizon has unleashed on its customers.
Or save yourself the trouble and hair pullout, and find a better phone with a better company. The Verizon RAZR makes the iPhone look dirt cheap.

Nice battery life extension though a little cheap looking........2007-03-24
The battery is great and does extend the charge life of the phone admirably if you can put up with the extra bulk (though probably not as much as you'd expect). Please note that the new battery door is plastic and not aluminum like the rest of the phone. So it looks a little cheap. This wasn't a problem for me since I put my phone in a case anyway which covers the door.
